Here is an interesting thing and I don't know what is the root cause.

I have had this card for over a year and it worked on an older gentoo
install.
I updated the box to 2006.1 , 2.6.17 kernel and 0.7 ivtv
When booting, ivtv hangs on 
ivtv0: loaded v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw firmware (262144 bytes)

But...
If I avoid ivtv from being loaded at boot, I can modprobe ivtv it seems
to work..

I think it is UDEV and I searched the thread and found someone else who
had a similar issue but they did not really have a solution.

Is there anybody who might know how to fix it?
I was looking at commenting out the udev.rules lines dealing with v4l
