Sorry I can't reproduce this issue...
I guess it might be related to a Qt bug in 5.4.0 (5.5.0?) in which the file
dialogs where under certain conditions never showing => the workaround was then
to press "Escape" to dismiss the dialog and try again, several times until
success.
Can you confirm with updated Qt5/KF5 libs?
