The notebook is a HP Pavilion g6 2016ss. The router is provided by my
ISP with proprietary firmware, so it isn't a standard commercial model.
I think it's irrelevant, since Fedora 24 with kernel 4.7 and Centos 7.2
with 3.10 kernel are working fine.

Testing the Ubuntu setup, I've found that Wicd has the dropping
connection issue, but it reconnects immediatly. NetworkManager needs a
reboot before it is able to reconnect.

I'm testing the kernel 4.8 with default NetworkManager setup, as you
have asked for.

  Ubuntu 16.04.1 with all updates. Default kernel, default driver, and
  default NetworkManager setup. Wifi connection drops often and/or
  became slow. I tried disabling NetworkManager and installing Wicd for
  network management. All working ok since then.
