I have an DSL connection with pppoe and currently set the DSL pppoe pass
through - that way the IP address of the DSL modem can be negletced.

It depends on your setup and packages you use on the LEAF box.
I also found /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/hosts

In my setup /etc/shorewall.masq does not include the router address, but
the whole network instead
shorewall/masq:ppp0   192.168.1.0/24
