Well, then you'll need to patch every version of GTK that goes out,
which sucks. If you go the LD_PRELOAD route you just need to create
the library once and as long as the API doesn't change drastically you 
don't have to remake it. Then again, you have to do the LD_PRELOAD
before any GTK application which makes things more complicated, but I
think it's still the easiest approach now. Of course getting the
patches into the GTK CVS tree is the solution in the long term.
