I can now connect, but I don't have DNS:

Why doesn't the DNS work, isn't this how to set it properly (to
Google's public DNS):
shelly@neptune:~$ cat /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
prepend domain-name-servers 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4;
prepend domain-name-servers 2001:4860:4860::8888, 2001:4860:4860::8844;

And for that matter, why did I have to set the IP address manually?
Shouldn't that be already set like this:
shelly@neptune:~$ cat /etc/network/interfaces
iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.0.110
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 192.168.0.1

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
