new "New" functionality

Jürgen, I admit that I didn't think this change mattered eiter way,
but now after using it a bit I think it stink! For me it is now a lot
more work than it used to be to open a new document:

File->New
File->Save As  
     change dir
     write name <enter>

whereas I used:

File->New
        change dir <and this dir was usually what I wanted it to be>
        write name <enter>

besides...there seems to be some bugs with this new feature too.
(more on that later)
