Black oil is to be expected. It's the nature of a diesel. Perhaps Mobil 1 is
not as high quality of an oil as it once was. If you do use a flush product, I
would probably pull the lower pan after draining the oil to make darn sure
there is no chunks of sludge that will plug the oil screen.

Here is a flush product that is allegedly very good. I've never used it. Follow
the instructions to a T.

I would probably use this though, just because it's from Germany.

Subject: [MBZ] remove sludge from w123 diesel

Good Afternoon!
When I was adjusting the valves last fall I was surprised to see that there
seemed to be a slight build-up of sort of gummy oil around the valves. Was
not terrible but I could understand why it might not want to drain out in
an oil change.

I have heard some conflicting advice on using sludge removal on these
engines and was curious if anyone had any advice on this. There are some
products from Liqui Moly that look interesting. It explains why my oil goes
black instantly after an oil change. I have had the car for over 15 years
and it had only 68kmi when I got it. I have used synthetic oil since I got
it, mostly Mobil 1 15-50.

Thanks in advance!
