The power module you bought is a counterfeit one! Mr. Zeyuan Yan is the 
designer, who is also on this board.

The NCH6100HV has been replaced by a newer model, NCH6300HV, last December.

Also, if you have swapped anode/cathode, something should still light up 
without damage.  There would be a glow.

Since you have it wired correctly (with a resistor) on the correct pins, even 
if the polarity is reversed, and you have 170volts output, then the tube is 
bad.  There is no harm trying other tubes to see.
