I see you've now experienced the following PR: kern/49398: i386-current GENERIC (i915drmkms) boot hangs if monitor powered off
So, it's not only a monitor not connected, but also a monitor connected but powered off (depending on connection method). This is slightly annoying to me as I would like to have the option to use the console on the machine when needed, but not have to keep the monitor on all the time or reboot it to get more than the plain VGA console. -- |/"\ John D.
