OK I have my  file:/etc directory open in konqueror. Under view I have show 
hidden files checked. all the directories are listed in alphabetical order
In the M,s I have mail, makedev.d, menu, menu-methods, midi and mplayer but no 
modprobe or  modules. 
I am more confused than ever
