Nope. Unlike other cameras that use beam splitters for metering control, 
the F3 uses a semi-transparent mirror which allows some light to hit the 
metering cell while the other light goes to the finder. You can use 
either Linear or Circular Polarizers on the F3. Before the Circular 
Polarizer was available Nikon offered the linear type. Since then the 
Cirular polarizer has replaced the linear as it can be used on all 
cameras.

All AF Nikon SLR cameras require Circular polarizers so as to not 
interfere with the AF system or Matrix metering.
