Did you try the productid option? If you are starting the driver via the Ubuntu package scripts, you can add "productid=0003" to your /etc/ nut/ups.conf file. I think you will also need to add "pollonly" as well.

Also note that 2.4.3 is several versions behind the latest NUT release (2.6.2). You might want to request a backport to your distribution:
