It wouldn't help much with exporting but might help with problems regarding filename changes etc. because I'd expect Nepomuk to be able to cope with them. Anyway, everyone uses Nepomuk today for storing metadata so it'd be logical for Okular to follow the direction. Btw, I'm quite disappointed seeing all the comments bashing the developers.
