OK, after digging around in the wiki, I'm just going to admit defeat and
ask -- how does one install OpenWrt on a new router without a factory
image? I have a new Buffalo WHR-1166D and, as a test, I upgraded the
OEM firmware, that worked fine (as I suspected it would). At this point,
though, what on earth am I supposed to do to get OpenWrt on it?

Based on several wiki pages, I'm well aware of the difference between a
factory image and a sysupgrade image. I can see in the appropriate
downloads directory a sysupgrade-format image, but no factory image:

I also just finished building the very same thing and, upon trying
to flash, was not at all surprised to be told "Invalid firmware." And
I'm not the only person to be wondering how to do this:

So what's the secret? Unless I have a factory image for this router,
what value is it? Does something like this require opening up the router,
finding the serial port, stopping in U-Boot, setting up TFTP, etc, etc?
What am I missing here?
