Hello Nancy;

Please check out the National Park Service Conserve O Gram [COG] on identifying
mouse and rat damage in museum collections at 3/12-COG-Rodent-Damage.pdf
(nps.gov)<https://www.nps.gov/museum/publications/conserveogram/3-12-COG-Rodent-Damage.pdf>
and COG 3/11: Identifying Museum Insect Pest Damage
(nps.gov)<https://www.nps.gov/museum/publications/conserveogram/03-11.pdf>.
These two COGs include illustrations of damage that help with identifying the
pests that cause the damage.

You might also take a look at the COG 2/ 8: Hantavirus Disease Health and
Safety Update
(nps.gov)<https://www.nps.gov/museum/publications/conserveogram/02-08.pdf> that
provides information on this rare but serious respiratory virus transmitted by
mice and rats.

Best,
Joan

Mice. You can actually see their two incisors' marks for each bite.

Hello-I'm attaching two photos of damage to a ledger book at one of our parks.
The ledger is calf skin covered, the damage is to the paper.

I have my suspicion, but I don't want to prejudice anyone as to whom the
culprit might be for this damage. Can I ask for ID suggestions?

Thanks very much!
