I have the same bug on my handbrake (0.9.9+dfsg-2~2.gbpa4c3e9) with
libdvdcss2 (1.2.13-dmo1) installed and I can properly see the DVD,

This are the last lines in the log (with -x option):

    (null): dep_check () AudioTrackDRCValue
    (null): dep_check () VideoTurboTwoPass

My system is the following:
    Linux tol-sirion 3.12-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.12.9-1 (2014-02-01)
x86_64 GNU/Linux (jessie)
