Gnome, Enlightenment and probably others use those desktop files to build menu's in the desktop environment. http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ports/www/mozilla-firefox/files/firefox.desktop So if there would be a xxxterm.desktop so xxxterm would be placed in the correct category in the menu and if it would have a nice icon, it would be cool. Although, I can imagine you do not really worry about menu's. I could create a minimal desktop file, they do not really look difficult to make, but I can't make a icon, my graphics suck...
