As far I can see from the warning, it seems that you are using a local installed version of requests. Are you mixing system packages with local installed one? This use case is not supported on Debian, can you use a virtualenv instead? I suppose you are using Debian stable, right? urllib3 is at version 1.21.1 in testing.
