I'm afraid I don't have any clue here. There is clearly some system level library or hardware problem happening, as there are a number of users who are able to use these lower resolutions. I no longer have access to this scanner, so it is impossible for me to reproduce. We might need to get a log of the sane backend and a log of the windows driver doing the same scans so I can compare.
