Unlike the V700, the V800 does not require any additional interpreter plugin, if that's what you mean. Have you checked the sane-backends version you are using? The post you refer to mentions 1.0.24 (on Debian's jessie). Another possibility is a case of unsupported or conflicting default parameters. Have a look at the output of scanimage --help.
