Title:
  Remmina crashes after RDP connection

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact

When connecting with RDP Remmina crashes. It's due to an invalid API
use in remmina and stricter checking in the most recent freerdp3
version which makes it error out now.

  * Test case

Try to connect to a RDP server using remmina, it shouldn't crash

  * Regression potential

The change is fixing an incorrect API use in the RDP plugin around
color check, if there is an issue it will be in the RDP support,
  probably around colors handling

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2032164] Re: A general-proteciton exception during guest migration to unsupported PKRU machine

2023-09-18 Thread Alan Baghumian
We have now confirmed at three different locations that Live-Migration
from PKRU PRE-5.15.0-85.95 to PKRU 5.15.0-85.95 compute nodes breaks.

Title:
A general-proteciton exception during guest migration to unsupported
  PKRU machine

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When a host that supports PKRU initiates a guest that lacks PKRU support, the
flag is enabled on the guest's fpstate.
This information is then passed to userspace through the vcpu ioctl
KVM_GET_XSAVE.
However, a problem arises when the user opts to migrate the mentioned guest
to another machine that does not support PKRU.
In this scenario, the new host attempts to restore the guest's fpu registers.
Nevertheless, due to the absence of PKRU support on the new host, a
general-protection exception takes place, leading to a guest crash.

  [Fix]
The problem is resolved by the following upstream commit:
ad856280ddea x86/kvm/fpu: Limit guest user_xfeatures to supported bits of XCR0

Additionally, a subsequent fix tackles the migration problem stemming from
the earlier commit:
a1020a25e697 KVM: x86: Always enable legacy FP/SSE in allowed user XFEATURES

  [Test Plan]
  1. Set up two machines: one with PKRU support and the other without.
  2. Initiate a guest that lacks PKRU support on the machine with PKRU support.
  3. Utilize libvirt to migrate the aforementioned guest to a different machine
that lacks PKRU support.
  4. The error emerges on the destination machine:
KVM: entry failed, hardware error 0x8021

If you're running a guest on an Intel machine without unrestricted mode
support, the failure can be most likely due to the guest entering an invalid
state for Intel VT. For example, the guest maybe running in big real mode
which is not supported on less recent Intel processors.

  [Where problems could occur]
The introduced commits will impact the guest migration process,
potentially leading to failures and preventing the guest from operating
successfully on the migration destination.

2023-06-05 Thread Alan Baghumian
I'm not 100% if this trace is directly related to the NIC driver,
however it was int middle of two "Unit Hang" messages, so I pasted it
here. Might be a bi-product.

I disabled APMS under Advanced Settings in BIOS, but that did not make a
difference. Also, upgraded one of the nodes to Focal HWE 5.15 kernel and
both are still having the same issues

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2001567] Re: Add support for newer I219-LM NICs to the 5.4.0 kernel

2023-06-04 Thread Alan Baghumian
This NIC is supported by the 5.4.0 Focal LTS kernel, however, any
changes on the switch side or even disconnecting and connecting the
Ethernet cable causes the card to hang:

I tried adding pcie_aspm=off to kernel boot parameters, however that
does not seem to change anything.

I have two Dell Optiplex 3080 Micro machines and both are experiencing
this issue:

Title:
Add support for newer I219-LM NICs to the 5.4.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Some newer Dell systems (I experienced this on an Optiplex 7000)
include an Intel I219-LM NIC that is not supported by the 5.4.0
kernel. Later versions of the HWE kernel do support this NIC.

That makes it impossible to use these systems with the FIPS kernel.
Since our imaging environment does not have FIPS mode enabled, we need
support for this NIC when used both with and without FIPS mode.

Please backport the latest stable e1000e driver to both the 5.4.0 non-
FIPS kernel & the 5.4.0 FIPS kernel.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1782033] Re: "Alias=" missing from NetworkManager.service

2023-03-21 Thread Alan Baghumian
The network-manager package in Bionic and Focal install as symlink to
NetworkManager.service correctly:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents=network-
manager.service=exactfilename=bionic=any

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents=network-
manager.service=exactfilename=focal=any

However this has gone missing from Jammy onward:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=jammy=any=exactfilename=contents=network-
manager.service

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=kinetic=any=exactfilename=contents=network-
manager.service

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=lunar=any=exactfilename=contents=network-
manager.service

This can potentially break historical scripts / workloads that use the
network-manager.service name and would be nice to fix.

Looking at Debian packages, this is present on Stretch (9), Buster (10)
and Bullseye (11). It seems like it was dropped with Bookworm, however
it was re-added back to Sid.

I've just had a fun few minutes wondering why I couldn't disable NM
using "systemctl disable network-manager.service". Looks like the real
unit file is NetworkManager.service, and the former is a symlink.

Per systemd.unit(5), "unit files may specify aliases through the
Alias= directive in the [Install] section" which allows the aliases to
be used in systemctl disable etc. - so this might be a cleaner
approach and would presumably solve the problem of lusers like me
  guessing unit names ..

  Actual behavior:

  Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS amd64 is a host.

Note 2: Problem exists if use QEMU-KVM (sudo kvm -m 1536 -drive

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1879169] Re: Thumbs never updated after renaming a bunch of image files

2022-05-06 Thread Alan Baghumian
Just tested with Focal's Nautilus 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1.20.04.1 and this
does not happen.

Followed the same scenario and renamed 2 out of 4 sample files:

1) Using Nautilus itself.
2) Closed Nautilus and renamed the files in terminal.

In both cases Nautilus automatically regenerated the thumbnails.

I refuse to waste my time reporting this upstream, since Gnome
developers (or at least Nautilus developers) have proven in several
occasions to be a bunch of idiots unable to deal with bug reports (or
with bugs in general). You deal with them.

I had a folder containing a bunch of image files, namely .png files,
named 1.png, 2.png up to 100.png and more.

I deleted many of them and then renamed the remaining ones to 1.png
  through 21.png.

Now I look at the folder and all the thumbs have not been updated. For
example, the thumb of say 5.png is the thumb of the image that used to
  be called 5.png before renaming.

Even hitting f5 does not rebuild the thumbs, and if I right-click on
the folder I don't see any option in the context menu to manually
force-rebuild the thumns (which shouldn't be necessary in the first
place but should be something I'd be able to do).

It's obvious that renaming files should invalidate the thumbs cache.
  Fucking pathetic.

Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
It seems like this could be related to Bug #137308, where a user
complained that previewed files were being deleted.

file-roller, also known as Archive Manager, doesn't delete files that
are previewed without extracting them to a known location first. These
  previews are stored in ~/.cache/.fr-.

I believe the /tmp directory is cleared each time the system is
restarted, but maybe the preview files aren't stored there for
  security reasons.

eog seems to not store references to a file maybe by design; sometimes
when you change a file on disk, eog will reload the file, but it
doesn't always do so. So maybe can't rely on other applications that
have the file 'open' to actually have a reference to the index node or
whatever, and users will expect the preview not to be deleted
  immediately.

Currently, it seems like some, and maybe all preview files are
retained indefinitely, unless manually deleted. If a file is previewed
more than once, multiple copies are created. Over time this can add up
to a considerable amount of disk space.

Bug description:
  Hi,

I just installed the latest Ubuntu desktop from iso file
ubuntu-21.10-desktop-amd64.iso inside of VMWare workstation. I chose
ZFS and native ZFS encryption of the filesystem. The installation went
  fine. Everything worked as expected.

Then I upgraded the packages to the latest version via the Software
updater. After reboot I'm stuck in the initramfs prompt. The following
  command fails:

  mount -o zfsutil -t zfs rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_gtw63h /root//

  Permission denied.

And the system never asks me for the password to unlock the root fs.

So, I'm guessing that there is something wrong with the new initramfs
  disk: initrd.img-5.13.0-27-generic

When I reboot and select the previous version in grub:
initrd.img-5.13.0-27-generic, the system asks for the password and
  boots without a problem.

  Thanks.

  To summarize:

  1. Installed new VM using the Ubuntu iso image. Chose ZFS native encryption.
Minimal install.
  2. As soon as the system came up, I hit the update/upgrade prompt. Rebooted
and failed to boot the new version.

I didn't customize anything or installed anything extra.

2022-02-21 Thread Alan Baghumian
I confirmed this is happening. Here are two ways to reproduce:

1) Grabbed jammy-desktop-amd64.iso nightly build (Feb 2). Installing a
system using this ISO, while choosing Encryption + ZFS lands you on this
error.

2) Installed Impish using an ISO from October 12, choosing Encryption +
ZFS. The system installs and boots up w/o any issues. Performed a dist-
upgrade to Jammy, which resulted the system booting into initramfs with
the exact same error.

Title:
Ubuntu 21.10 boot stuck in initramfs

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in zfs-linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

[Bug 1960974] [NEW] Ubiquity 22.04.4 - ZFS Encrypted disk drops in busybox shell with permission denied error

2022-02-15 Thread Alan Baghumian
Public bug reported:

1) Booted Ubuntu Jammy Desktop ISO made using UNetbootin
2) Started installer
3) Picked Erase Disk + ZFS + Encryption
4) Installation completed successfully and the machine reboots
5) After asking decryption password, the system drops in a busybox shell, with
permission denied error:

# mount -o zfsutil -t zfs rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_gfrn4m /root//
Filesystem can not be mounted: Permission denied

Running the above command manually results the same "Permission denied"
error.

zpool status shows ZFS pool being online. zfs list shows all the
datasets being mounted inside initramfs.

Attaching screen shots.

Effected device: Dell Latitude E7450 - 256GB SATA SSD - 8GB RAM

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Hi Guys,
Regarding transparency of selected text in Evolution, the package needs
to be recompiled using webkitgtk 2.4.10+ and that will fix it.

Bug#543375: util-linux: Superblock last mount time is in the future

2009-09-17 Thread Alan Baghumian
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Guys,

A temporary workaround for the problem is to edit /etc/default/rcS file
and set FSCKFIX to yes. At least it wont stop your boot process asking
for manual fsck run.

Hopefully maintainers can put together soon to fix this.

Thanks,
Alan

Bug#423503: liberation fonts - let's upload

2008-06-14 Thread Alan Baghumian
Hi,

I'm not a DD, so, if possible, sponsor the package!

http://technotux.org/dload/ttf-liberation/

Alan

 Hi Alan,

I think the bug log has gathered all relevant information but just isn't
conclusive on either one. I therefore suggest to just upload the package
to unstable and have the FTP-masters decide on this - is this acceptable
to Debian or not? That is, follow the reasoning by FSF or the one by some
of the debian-legal participants? After all, FTP-master is the final
 authority on this.

Do you think you can upload it sometime soon, so it may make it to Lenny?
If you need sponsoring just let me know!

 Thijs

Hi,

I don't have pinentry-* installed but my balsa can decrypt encrypted
mail messages w/o problem. I guess it's the fault of gmime, so please
wait for the new balsa 2.3.24 package with gmime 2.2.21 and then check
if the problem has been solved or not.

Thanks,

Bug#462451: brasero doesn't work when files to burn contain spaces

2008-01-26 Thread Alan Baghumian
On Thu, 2008-01-24 at 19:56 -0300, Alvaro Herrera wrote:
When trying to burn a data DVD containing filename with whitespace,
brasero seems to convert the spaces to %20 and then attempt to read
them. When this fails, it simply punts and shows a dialog box saying
No such file or directory, with no indication as to what exactly is
 going on.

strace'ing the process tells the tale: I can see an lstat call like
 this:
 lstat(/home/media/stuff/foo%20bar/baz%20qux, 0x7fffc4d13790) = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)
when there is no such file. (There is a file named
 /home/media/stuff/foo bar/baz qux instead).

FWIW, in case it matters, the thing I dropped into the right pane is the
/home/media/stuff directory, not the foo bar directly.

 I find this rather unfulfilling.

I have 0.7.0 installed on my system. I tried to make an ISO file with some
files containing spaces in the names. Then mounted the ISO using a command
like:

# mount -o loop brasero.iso tmp/

And checked the contents. Everything seems to be OK. Would you please do
the same test with 0.6.x (your) version to see what happens? If you got
corrupted file names, so this means that this problem has been fixed in
new upstream version.

Cheers,
Alan

Bug#461072: Broken American (en-us) voices

Hi,

I reinstalled 1.29-1 package, but it works:

$ espeak -v us-mbrola-3 test

command generates sound and not any text. I wonder how it works in 1.29
and why it does not work in 1.30-1? Would you please do this test too?

Thanks,
Alan

Please add this patch to support atleast a single AmE accent, ready to
use w/o any mambo jambo :-)
