[Inkscape-translator] Plurals for 0.92
I'm trying to push the Polish translation for 0.92 and I have noticed a few
places where plurals would make sense.
This is one such example in export.cpp

I could change the code and push it into the branch but I wonder if it's a
little late. Should I fix it in master instead or leave it out as a minor
thing?

[josm-dev] JUnit HTML report
Hi!
I've been contributing to JOSM a couple of years ago and now found some
more time to work on the project.
I was thinking of looking into unit tests a little bit and extend the
coverage. Are there any guidelines around unit testing, what's the
general approach? Do people feel adding more test coverage will be
valuable for the project?
I also added HTML reports for Junit to the build (as an optional task
as it may require some dependencies for ant) but since my old SVN
password doesn't seem to work, I'm attaching it as a patch here.
Finally, I've played with code coverage a little bit and have managed
to generate a sample coverage report:

I already have another ant task for generating it automatically but it
requires cubertura as a dependency so I'm not including it yet. (It
would be fairly easy though to use maven to fetch these dependencies
automatically during build without a need to including them in SVN).

Is there any particular reason for one or another ? I wouldn't think there is really. I suspect it simply depends on who wrote the initial string. Perhaps someone who knows English punctuation and editorial rules could say which is correct. I really think that generating a new POT file on an automated way is a good idea. Another projects do this and also automatically update all the po files. I think it isn't so difficult, creating a script and putting it on cron... By the way, thanks Alexandre. Alexandre, if you volunteer to generate the new file manually every week I can easily set-up a little job on my server and provide an up-to-date pot file. I have already been doing some automation of the process for the Polish translations. Regardless - if I can be of any help - let me know. Also - do we envisage putting the .pot into SVN - although it is not a big file perhaps it could be uploaded to a website (inkscape?) as in SVN it can always be update from source code. BTW. Since I have already messed up with the translations in the first place I think I can spare some time and look after this aspect. Obviously the key to success then would be to make sure that everyone uses launchpad and only launchpad. Fortunately it provides for both - translations on-line and working with .po files (which many translators prefer). Also it keeps track of who changed what. B) Should we just try to see, if the submissions via the automated process of pootle suit the quality standards of the current translators? I think my problem with this approach is the inability to work with .po files directly. Way too often I work on translations when I am on the train or the like and have no Internet access. C) We just keep the current state of translations being submitted via svn. [josm-dev] JOSM Translations
Hi! Recently someone on the list asked why JOSM is localised using plugins. Since I work on JOSM translation a bit myself it made me think about this particular approach and it seems like there might be some problems with the current approach. First and foremost the current approach effectively make it impossible to release JOSM with complete and stable translation since there is no relation between the JOSM code source code and the language plugins. Potentially there could be JOSM bundle with the lang-* plugins included but it would still not be accurate. On the other hand, if the lang-* plugins get tied with JOSM core then creating translations for plugins becomes questionable. And finally I recently noticed that OpenStreetBugs plugin decided to take its own localisation approach - by including the translation with the plugin itself. Perhaps this is a good moment to consider whether some refactoring of translations could be carried out to tidy things up. I wonder what would people think about: * Migrating JOSM core translations to JOSM core and out of the plugin so the core can be localised consistently and released with good translations. This would also eliminate problem with some messages that are currently non-translatable (before plugin is loaded) Perhaps launchpad could be use to maintain translations and then someone could maintain periodically updating the core. * Keeping the lang-* plugins to hold translations for plugins that change more often. Just a thought. The ones I added were four strings in panel.cpp that show up in the popup menu for swatch panels (Shape, Tall, Square and Wide). Shape refers to the desired shape for the swatches. Currently the behavior had been to try to be square, but to allow for user choice in the bottom panel, etc. a setting on the Tall range would make the swatch taller than it is wide. Jon, How do you plan the behaviour if there palette is really small (few colours). It seems that at the moment the colours have to occupy the entire visible space of the control so if there are very few (and constrained to squares) short palettes always tend to be big. Would it be good to have each colour a box of fixed dimensions? [opensuse] 32bit libs in 64bit openSuse 10.3 (libasound2)
Hi! I have had some problem with sound but upgrading to new alsa drivers (16rc1) solved it. So I now have all the 64bit alsa libs in version 16rc1. Unfortunately I also need libasound2 in the 32bit version for Skype to work. But 32bit version of the lib for x86_64 is only available ver 1.0.14. I could try compiling it from source but I am not sure how to force 32bit arch (and I suppose I would need some more 32bit libs) and will it not conflict with the version installed from rpm? I would ideally uninstall the 32bit version and install manually from source but I seem to have several other packets that depend on it. What's the best approach? When I run MC it displays frames correctly but if I run yast2 I get letters instead of frames (lines). However if I start screen and then run yast2 the lines are shown correctly. Thanks, but I am very well aware of these options. MC as I've mentioned works OK. Also YAST2 frames are all OK when I start it via screen. This makes me suspect this is not a problem of putty but rather I suspect this being specific to yast2 use of ncurses. I suspect there is something with the way borders are rendered via ncurses onto the screen depending on the terminal (the TERM env). Just I have never coded using ncurses so don't really know where to look. I was wandering if anyone else has similar problems? [opensuse] Mic not working with 10.3 64bit
Hi! I have been struggling entire day today to get my sound card up and running properly but with not luck. Running openSuSE 10.3 on AMD x64 on acer Aspire notebook. The sound output works perfectly OK but I struggle to get my microphone working. Initially I assumed it was Skype problem but then tried recording sound with krec and it fails as well. The sound card is (lspci): 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) [8086:27d8 (rev 02)] And as it has been properly discovered by yast2 sound I am using Intel HDA driver module Because it is on Acer Aspire 5630 I have altered /etc/modprobe.d/sound to be the following: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel # u1Nb.FPeEl_lypDB:82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=acer And it works OK: kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt :00:1b.0[A] - GSI 22 (level, low) - IRQ 22 kernel: PCI: Setting latency timer of device :00:1b.0 to 64 kernel: ALSA /usr/src/packages/BUILD/alsa-driver-hg20080118/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:2212: hda_codec: model 'acer' is selected As you can see the driver is also pretty up to date. I could not find many more clues for this specific problem as the card generally works and I have output via speakers/headphones. The most obvious would be to look in the mixer settings for Input but I have double-checked that levels are set to maximum and Mic and Capture is ON. I can also check the the mic itself works because if I go to Output mixer controls and turn the Mic on I can hear it well in the headphones (but that presumably only enables internal sound card routing of the signal). In the input channels I have: * Front Mic Boost * Mic Boost * Capture * Capture * Digital Though both Capture are enabled the level on it is always at the minimum but even if I turn it up and reopen the mixer it resets to zero. Any clues someone? I don't know where to look now. [opensuse] Install openSuSE 10.3 on a remote machine (Remote Installation)
Hi! I have a server that that is running an old version of SuSE and I am planning to upgrade it to 10.3 by creating a clean install. Unfortunately I have no physical access to the machine but would still like to control the installation process myself. I don't think I am brave enough to do it with autoYast just yet. I would obviously have someone to boot the install up and plug the machine into the Internet. I have found some clues here: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Remote_Installation_of_SUSE_LINUX but I was wondering if anyone have had any experience using either of the options with 10.3 (or any 10.x). I'd ideally like to try it with vnc but ssh would be equally fine. Yup! Confirmed. I have been using both versions 1.4 and 2.0 in openSuSE 10.2 and 10.3 successfully in the 64-bit version of the system as well. But I always go for the static binary rather then the rpm though I have used the package on another 10.3 and it worked well. I have also come across an idea of using hole punching and UDP but it seems to be more complex. Nevertheless a third host is essential, luckily I had one. [opensuse] Access a remote openSuSE installation sitting behind NAT
Hi! I have recently installed a fresh openSuSE 10.3 for one of my friends who mainly uses his box to browse the Internet and has little technical skills. It seems like he has some problems with the sound card setup and I would like to investigate but have no access to the computer (ie. physical) and though on broadband the machine is behind a NAT (and possibly a firewall) with no public IP so can't connect to it either. Is there a way that I could access the machine (ssh, vnc) with as little user intervention as possible (ideally just a simple command). I sit behind a NAT myself by should be able to configure some port forwarding if necessary. Any suggestions welcome. I usually install over the network with just the network boot install CD. You might try this if it is feasible. It worked fine for me a few weeks ago with 10.3 and the same CPU. An alternative solution might be to try and install the minimal system and then install other packages later on (I had to do it few weeks ago installing 10.2 of some CDs and it eventually worked). [opensuse] logsanalysis: (tail -f) vs (perl File::Tail)
Hi! Anyone have any view over the best way to watch for changes in log files to do some analysis? I want to create some small scripts/software to watch for changes in log files (like /var/log/messages or var/log/mai) and register some data in a db and I found to possible approaches: * to use Perl File::Tail to listen on a file and process any text that arrives * to use tail -f and pipe the output to my software And I was thinking what would the performance implications be and the preferred way of doing such analysis. [PHP] PHP 4.0.6 + Oracle9i + CPDF lib - large file problem (segmentation fault)
Hello! I have a problem with my php script. I am creating a report in PDF based on data in the Oracle9i database. To access Oracle I use OCI and to create PDF files I use ClibPDF 2.02. The problem is with the ammount of data - there are currently some 2000 records and are expected to be some 12000. This means that the output report has now 100 pages and may have much more (up to, say, 500). With that ammount of data I naturally create the PDF as a file (not in memory). As a result the file seems to be created properly but the output from PHP script (which is simply the link to the created file) does not appear. The browser displays an error message and in my httpd error_log I get: [Wed Sep 19 14:12:25 2001] [notice] child pid 14090 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Have any Ideas? What is the sorce of the problem. It doesn't appear if I limit the number of selected records. I have already done the following: * Set cpdf global limits to satisfy my needs: cpdf_global_set_document_limits(500,5,1,5,2); * Open pdf document as a file $PDF = cpdf_open(1,$file); * Finalize each page (what cost me not having the total number of pages printed on each page) cpdf_finalize_page ($GLOBALS[PDF], $pages-1); Any thing more I could do? Unfortunatelly there is no PHP error shown or logged. Best regards.
