maxrss using wrong unit in time

2023-12-19 Thread Wesley Moore
Hi folks,

Just thought I'd draw your attention to this bug since I think I've found the
cause:
https://bugs.busybox.net/show_bug.cgi?id=15751

It seems that `time` is treating the the `ru_maxrss` value as a count of
pages[1][2] but it's already in kilobytes[3]:

> ru_maxrss (since Linux 2.6.32)
> This is the maximum resident set size used (in kilobytes).

Wes

Backend to cdn.netbsd.org appears to be down

2020-02-22 Thread Wesley Moore
Hi,

I'm unsure of the best place to report this, or if it's known already — I
looked through various mailing lists and did not find any mention.

When I tried access cdn.netbsd.org I get a Varnish error[2], although it's
timing out now. Down for Everyone or Just Me, confirms it's not just me[1].
When I try to access ftp.netbsd.org (via FTP) I get a timeout.

Re: [Emc-users] Modbus RS-485 Connection with Mesa?

2015-04-01 Thread Wesley Moore
Mark,

Not sure if this helps or not. But for various control systems I use Moxa
device servers for Ethernet to RS232/422/485. I talk to them over TCP/IP, but
it can give you a simple telnet port to the device on the other end.

 Subject: [Emc-users] Modbus RS-485 Connection with Mesa?

 I'm looking at controlling a X-Z gantry system w/ LinuxCNC (well really HAL
 and some code). Operator pushes a button and the gantry moves between two
 baths, waiting for pre-set seconds per bath. The positions are set and do
 not change.

 I was thinking of using a Mesa 5i25-7i76 combo and maybe a 7i32 1.5/3Amp or
 another off-the-shelf stepper driver. There's no-magic needed for this. I
 need some I/O for limits, home, inputs, outputs, etc. I realize the 7i76
 is overkill for axis count, but I might want to expand to 4 axes later.

 I would take one of the GUI interfaces (touchy or axis, etc) and make my
 own suitable interface (easier said than done, possibly).

 The bath has a Love temp controller (16A2133-996) that can communicate
 Modbus RS-485. The 7i76 has RS-422 serial and the PC would have a RS-232
 port. What's the best way to get to RS-485? I could use a RS-232 to
 RS-485 converter like this one from advantech:
 http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Advantech/ADAM-4561-CE/?qs=%2fha2pyFaduhMyuR96x%252bdp4DnBDFhtESzKcpNyIUxvYPu1PngEfDtkA%3d%3d

 I thought maybe someone would have a suggestion? Might the mesa smart
 serial RS-422 be able to work someway?

 Regards,
 Mark

 PS. Considering my monitor turning off issues (previous posts), I'm second
 guessing using LinuxCNC/hal for this, but I'm a glutton for punishment..
 You just can't beat the price/feature linuxCNC.

[rails-oceania] [JOB]: Ruby Developer - Full Time or Contract - TrikeApps Melbourne

2014-04-16 Thread Wesley Moore
Hello All,

I originally posted this back in February but I'm still looking for another
1–2 people. I'm also open to working with freelancers on a contract basis
if there's anyone interested in that.

TrikeApps is looking for developers (two or more years experience in the
Ruby space) to work on a fairly stable set of projects from external
clients as well as from our parent group, Investling (such as Bellroy and
Radiopaedia). The role spans the full-stack of web application development
including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, API integration, background job
processing, SQL database interaction and application architecture.

Salary in the $65k–$110k range, based on experience. We’re open to
negotiation if you’re looking for something outside that range.

For more info and how to apply check out:
http://trikeapps.com/jobs/active-jobs/ruby-developer/

[rails-oceania] [JOB] Junior and Senior Developer Positions in Melbourne

2013-10-09 Thread Wesley Moore
Hi,
Wes from Trike Apps here.

We're looking for a junior to join our existing small team of programmers
in our relaxed West Melbourne office. You'd be working on a fairly stable
set of mostly web-based projects. Most projects use Ruby on Rails (v3.0+,
good test coverage), but where the best tool for the job was something
other than Rails we’ve used that different tool (such as Magento and a
Reddit fork).

Your work would span the full stack of web development from front-end HTML,
CSS and JavaScript to backend database, job processing and API integrations.

We’re not just looking for a code monkey; we want a thinker than can
contribute to better systems and programming. We want someone who is
passionate about their role and wants to continually improve their skills.

This is full time on-site role with some flexibility in hours. Salary is
$45k – $75k in line with abilities, but we're open to negotiation.

For the full details and how to apply please check out:
http://trikeapps.com/jobs/active-jobs/junior/

Now I know this is a bit off topic but I think there's a enough overlap
between the Rails and node.js skill set that this second role is relevant.

We're helping ImPOS recruit senior developers (at least 3 years
professional or open source experience) to bring a new product to market.
The product is a modern node.js and Couchbase web app in the POS (point of
sale) space.

You'd be responsible for getting additional functionality added to this
existing product and determining when those features can be delivered.
Additionally you'd be making architectural decisions regarding the code
base, testing and hosting to ensure the product is maintainable, scaleable
and enjoyable to work on. Ultimately getting the product launched worldwide.

The role is full time on-site in the fun and relaxed ImPOS offices on St
Kilda Road. Hours are flexible (as long as you work a synchronised a block
of hours each day with the other devs). The salary is up to about $120k
depending on abilities.

For the full details and how to apply please visit:

Re: [Emc-users] Rigging Company?

2013-09-18 Thread Wesley Moore
Please note that I don't come from a machining background, but from a
laboratory. Wrapping could be a good idea. We had a shipment travel
cross-country that was covered and tarped. Looked like it went through the
Mississippi River instead of over it...not fun to see on a device worth
$700,000.

A better question could be which rigging/shipping companies to avoid.

 19,000 lbs is not a very heavy machine for most riggers. 30-40,000
 lbs
 gets more interesting.  :-)

 You should be able to find a rigger local to the machine to load it,
 a
 trucker to move it, and a rigger at the other end to unload and
 install/position it.
 Chances are they will all be different companies due to the distance.

 A reasonable price would be $750 to load, $750 to unload, and a few
 bucks per mile to move it if they can get another load on the
 trailer.
 That would include 2-3 people doing the loading and unloading.

 If they have to move the machine a distance on skates or via
 forklift..
 that adds to the cost.Time costs money..

 Step deck trailers are cheaper than double drops (with a well), they
 are
 more common, and can usually carry a second machine cutting
 transportation costs.

 The trucker should be responsible for tie downs on the trailer and
 tarping (if desired).Sometimes it is a good idea to be present to
 advise on tie down locations so they don't tweak the machine via the
 tie downs.

 You might want to shrink wrap the machine. Flapping tarps can tear
 up
 machines.

 I'm in Indiana and can give you some Indiana company names if you
 would
 like..

[Emc-users] general questions

2013-03-28 Thread Wesley Moore
I'm trying to answer a couple of general questions that don't seem like an easy
find on the wiki, etc. Yes I know there are many contributing factors involved
on accurate answers, so a rough ballpark is all I'm looking for.

Without additional hardware:
How many encoder counts per second can be handled?
What is the PWM frequency range available?

Same questions with additional hardware (Mesa, etc) and the estimated add-on
cost?

Help on any/all of these would be very helpful to me. TIA,

Wesley

Brief background: EPICS is a basically a client-server framework for
cross-platform distributed controls. The server-side provides variables that
clients can read/write too. The variables can store data or act as triggers.

Currently, I'm testing/learning linuxcnc with a 3-axis mill for proof of
principle. But our goal is to build a hexapod that's fully integrated with our
EPICS controls, that's where I come in. One of my colleagues posted a design
sim here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nSfLRaEPEElist=UU7zkQp-M-_i3c498p9MGWmAindex=1

In the end, the most used controls would likely be jog, jog speed, and homing.
Most of the configuration would be considered experts only and setup ahead of
time.

Thanks Eric.

I actually just started looking into that as an option. In general, telnet is
frowned upon for security reasons. But I have other systems that use it and we
tuck them behind firewalls, etc. With this setup, the PC doesn't have to act
as the server, only a remote device. I'm gonna follow-up and test this out.
I'm also interested in any ideas from Michael H.

Re: [ragel-users] scanning boolean expressions

2010-11-18 Thread Wesley Moore
I was Was thinking about using Ragel to build a compiler for a programming
language today and after looking at the clang sample linked on the website and
the full C grammar I came to the conclusion that a scanner as the lever that
fed tokens into a state machine with the grammar was the way I'd need to do it.
In other words pretty much exactly what you described here. So I too would be
interested to know if this is a sensible way to go about it.

Regards,
Wes

On 18/11/2010, at 5:51 PM, Brodie Thiesfield brofie...@jellycan.com wrote:

 Hi,

 Some advice please. I wanted to make a scanner/parser for a simple
 grammar. Simple boolean expressions with a variety of comparison
 operators.

 I originally tried to combine the scanner with the parser, resulting
 in something like:

 Tag := |*
'%' [a-z]+ { tag(ts,te); };
space;
*|;
 Op  := |*
 { op(LT); };
= { op(LE); };
space;
*|;
 Val := |*
[0-9]+ { val(ts, te); };
space;
*|;
 Expr := Tag Op Val ;

 It seemed exactly what I wanted. I wanted to express the valid order
 for things as in the state machine of Expr, but using the scanner to
 find the actual tokens, limiting them to only what is valid. However
 it results in the error references to graph instantiations not
 allowed in expressions.

 I eventually split it into two parts, a complete scanner and a parser
 based on token types. I take the results of the scanner (calls to
 tag(), op(), val(), etc) and pipe them into an instance of the state
 machine Expr, watching for state errors to see if the token wasn't
 valid.

 Scanner := |*
# Tag
'%' [a-z]+ { tag(ts,te); };
# Op
 { op(LT); };
= { op(LE); };
# Val
[0-9]+ { val(ts, te); };
space;
*|;

 Tag = 'T';
 Op  = 'O';
 Val = 'V';
 Expr := Tag Op Val ;

 I originally made it with a straight state machine, similar to the
 mongrel HTTP parser with lots of mark and field actions, but it
 tripped up on the difference between the operators and = for
 some reason giving me strange results there.

 Although this works, it can't be the right way to do it. Would someone
 please give me pointers to a better way of doing it?

Removal of dnsmasq startup item

2009-07-12 Thread Wesley Moore
Hi,I use dnsmasq on my home network for dhcp and dns. I've noticed that a
startup item is no longer generated. I think this caused the previously
existing one to be removed when I upgraded. The next time I rebooted dnsmasq
did not start and all my clients stopped working.

I can see in Changeset
51337http://trac.macports.org/changeset/51337/trunk/dports/net/dnsmasq/Portfile
that
the startupitem generation was commented out but the commit message doesn't
mention this. Also I can't find any bug ticket that suggests there was a
problem with the existing startup item. So I was wondering if anyone knew
why the change was made? If there was a good reason then so be it, if not,
I'll raise a ticket to have it re-enabled.

Re: Possible Bug for Oracle

2008-11-24 Thread Wesley Moore
Based on the documentation here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2065646

It would appear that the 'AS' keyword is optional in the places where
the patch would have an affect.

I tested the patch against commit
8b395139f67ddcf7f24443cb6c1d7460e409f639 and appears to correct the
problem.

I've attached a patch, which adds some rudimentary specs for the change.

Thanks,
Wes

 The code in question from dataset/sql.rb is shown below.
 to_table_reference calls as_sql if an alias is supplied. The alias is
 supplied by source_list when selecting from a Dataset. This generates
 something like: ...FROM (sql) AS T1. From what I can tell Oracle
 doesn't support aliasing sub-queries with AS, you just provide the
 alias E.g. ...FROM (sql) T1

 I don't use Oracle, so I can't test this, but here's a patch that may
 work. It will omit the use of AS for every case where something is
 aliased, so if there is any case where Oracle requires the use of AS,
 it will break. If that is the case, we'll have to do some
 refactoring. Anyway, please test this patch with the latest master
 branch and let me know if it works.

 Thanks,
 Jeremy

Awesome! Thanks for such a prompt update.

 Hi all,

 I already checked out the ff3 release candidates and prepared
 the required T2 package adaption and thus was able to instantly
 provide the firefox package update today. I also improved the
 package to wire up the parallel jobs as specified in in the T2 SDE
 Config and thus all mozilla related packages (firefox, thunderbird,
 seamonkey, ...) benefit from multiple processors / cores and build
 times are significantly reduced for those packages as well.

 Have fun,

Re: [webkit-dev] Your opinion on a CSS proposal

2007-06-05 Thread Wesley Moore

Tom,
Overlooking for the moment the problem Dave H raised, what would the
rendering engine be aiming to do with the text when font-size was
auto? I assume this is to make the resolution independent example
you've made easier to implement, how does it help that?

Hi,

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place/way to ask this.

I recently posted on the www-style list a proposal for allowing the
'font-size' CSS property to have a value of 'auto':
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2007Jun/0016.html

The basic idea is that when font-size: auto is used, the browser would
calculate the font-size based on the element's width margins and
padding. A javascript mockup is available at:

http://windyroad.org/static/resolution-independence/

What I would like to know, if you can spare the time, is what you, the
webkit developers, feel about this proposal. I'm not involved in any
browser development, so I don't know the implications such a proposal
would have if is at all feasible.

Thanks for your time,

Re: [directfb-users] help needed for compiling cairo graphics with directfb.

2006-04-25 Thread Wesley Moore
I think you have to use Cairo CVS (or whatever SCM they are using now)
to get DirectFB support.

 Hi dok,

 Im trying to use cairo graphics with directfb as backend.

 I downloaded the cairo tarball from the official site of cairo graphics
 complied it by following the steps mention in their Install file.

 Im using the example given on directfb official site for cairo usage.

 But there is a linker error saying undefined reference to
 cairo_directfb_surface_create.

 Can I know what step I am missing in the compilation process of cairo for
 directfb?

 Thnx  Rgds,

Re: [directfb-users] how to hide a window using DFB and it still can receive events

2006-03-09 Thread Wesley Moore
I think what you need to do is create a window with the
DWCAPS_INPUTONLY capability set.

DWCAPS_INPUTONLY - The window has no surface. You can not draw to it
but it receives events
