I would honestly like to hear the truth nothing but the truth re Fr. Newton Rodrigues. I have been receiving emails from some of the community members since I am the President of the Goan Association of Calgary and Fr. Newton lives amongst us. Innocent until proven guilty. I have heard about the case in Goa against him but what was the outcome I have no idea. Was he framed as some say or was he really guilty of the crime. If he was guilty then how he could leave the country and move on to Canada. Soter says he is innocent, Aires and others say he is guilty but what was the verdict if at all by the Court?I did not want to get involved but being the President of the Goan Association of Calgary and the emails I get I want to know if anyone out there knows the real truth. I know of so many cases whose houses have been occupied by non-owners and as per the mundcar law, we cannot evict these people even after offering them a lumpsum to get out. I am a victim of such incident and I live abroad. My house was given to some poor people by my father out of pity for a measly rent of 25 rupees a month and till today the rents paid out is 150 rupees which again is not paid regularly. Besides that they have sub-let the premises to some other people and accepting rents of over 1000/- rupees. Where is the law in such cases and what is the proceedure and how do we get these people out of our house. Can someone advise me as how to proceed in such cases and what kind of action can I take to get my ancestral home back without resorting to terror actions. I even tried giving it to the builders to see if they can manage to satisfy his needs but the tenants demands are more than what I am asking. Any suggestions? Last time it was the BJP Govt. when fraud took place. Has the Congress Govt. learnt anything from that? Are they going to hush hush the matter as well? I think the ticket holders should get double the amount at-least for the time lost and the transportation costs etc. In other parts of the world, they (the organizers) would probably be sued for a much bigger chunk. Hello, I just like to budge in here as I always wondered, are Manglorians really Goans. Heard different stories of there being a huge fire in Goa so some families took off to Mangalore and settled there etc.etc. Now my question is, wherever Goans go they will always make sure they will call themselves say Pakistani Goans, Bombay Goans, Kuwait Goans etc. did anyone hear Mangloreans saying that? It does not really matter at times but I hate to see them fluctuating between Goans and Mangloreans whenever they choose to. Be proud of what you are and stay put. I was just inquisitive to know how big Viva Goa is, so I decided to head to Toronto for two weeks vaction. I did contact Oscar Furtado who was kind enough to arrange a free entry pass for me being the President of the Goan Association Calgary. I was really taken over as to how big this event was. As one of the coordinator of the Word Goa Day, I was expecting to be called up to say a few words but I guess there was no much room for the speeches. The Cultural Programme they put up was extremely well organised. It was indeed a great pleasure to see so many Goans gathered in one place to support the event. Besides the soccer torunaments, they also arranged for the first time Badminton, Darts and Volleyball Tournaments. I did not see much coverage of the remaining tournaments besides the soccer. Well, I for one took part in the Badminton tournament and along with my partner came out as the Champions. But as I said there was no coverage of the winners of these tournaments or if there was, somehow I missed it. Later in the evening it was thrilling to see the younger generation gathering around for the Dance part which was jam-packed to the beautiful music played by the DJ. All said and done, my hats off to Viva Goa Organisors and to all those who support this function. Keep up the good job and Goans from Africa, Middle East or from Goa itself treat this event with pride and show your support in whatever way you can.
