Bug description:
When I click on a a jar (open it with Java) which reads some external
file, it tries to find it under my home instead of the folder where
the jar is located (Windows behavior). However, if I run $java -jar
  app.jar it works.

That is: when you click the jar, you'd expect the current directory
being that in front of your face, not anywhere else, like your home.

You already have the tools to do that. It's called *survey*.
Plus, never heard any answer from you from all sugestions we give in my
Computer Group (20+ persons). In years, never one single answer...
And now you want to "improve our experience"??? Really???

Thank you, it worked, but I also had to add "lookup file bind" to the

And so on.
If I understand correct, the problem is that my DNS server on 192.168.1.1
can't lookup an IP address for "mypcname", which is not a registered
domain name, just cooked-up hostname of the machine running smtpd.
Honestly, I don't know how it could be fixed. Could anybody help me?

allowaperture and X11

2017-05-25 Thread Choose a display name
I run stable OpenBSD on amd64 thinkpad and I found this in my Xorg.log:

>checkDevMem: failed to open /dev/xf86 and /dev/mem
>(Operation not permitted)
>Check that you have set 'machdep.allowaperture=1'
>in /etc/sysctl.conf and reboot your machine
>refer to xf86(4) for details

Do I need to follow this instructions even if X seems to work okay?
The installer didn't set it when I told I expect to run the X Windows System
and I have no /etc/sysctl.conf yet.

Yes, ksh's and sh's cd seems to work the exact same way, despite man page
of the latter not saying what it does when CDPATH is null.

And about PPID Theo understood me right.

Thank you both!

smtpd doesn't start

2017-05-25 Thread Choose a display name
I'm faced with a problem on the stable. The moment a network interface
goes up smtpd cannot be started. I mean, it hangs and gives no output,
neither with -dv or -Fv options, it even hangs with -n. Without a network
it still works as expected. I changed no related config, I believe. How
could I debug (and even better fix) that?
Thank you.

majordomo errata

2017-05-24 Thread Choose a display name
The first sentence of the "Unsubscribing from Mailing Lists" section
of majordomo's response to "help" command contains a typo.

>Your original intro message should contains the exact command

It should contain, not "contains".
Also, according to the message lists owners' addresses must be of
the form:

>listname-ow...@openbsd.org
>This is the address of the person or persons who maintain the
>mailing list.

But, at least when you subscribe to the @misc you receive a message
from the owner-m...@openbsd.org.

Typo in the mg tutorial

2017-05-24 Thread Choose a display name
mg tutorial contains some "M-x open-file" command, but mg has only
"M-x find-file" command as far as I can see.

rc.d manual erratum

2017-05-24 Thread Choose a display name
Section ENVIRONMENT in the rc.d manual starts with:

>Daemon control scripts use a fixed number of sh(1) variables when starting a
>daemon.
>The following three can be overridden by site-specific values ...

And description of four variables follow, not three.

Difficulties with the sh manual page

2017-05-24 Thread Choose a display name
I don't quite understand the description of the PPID in the sh manual.

>PPID The shell's parent process ID. Subshells have the same
> PPID as the parent of the current shell.

PPID is the shell's parent's pid, okay (by the way, shouldn't the
second "'s" be added?). But, according to the next sentence, subshells
have the same value in their PPIDs as the current shell's parent have
in its PPID. Is it correct?

Also, I had a problem understanding how does cd work. It is stated
there that when cd is called with argument not starting with a slash
or dot then CDPATH is searched, but what if the variable is unset? It
says nothing about such case.

>cd [-L | -P] [dir]
>Change the current working directory to dir, or $HOME by default. If
>dir is set to `-', change to the previous working directory and print
>the (now current) working directory. If dir does not begin with a
>slash or dot, CDPATH is searched for the directory.

ksh manual says that the current directory is searched in such case.
Does sh's cd work the same way? If so, it might be good idea to include
that to the manual.

Thank you.

2011-07-07 Thread display name
On a default install with a new and powerful system, I had the same
video stuttering issues--particularly with HD. I did find, however, that
using VLC and just the CPU to decode the video looked just fine. So,
there was something in Unity not playing well with the GPU/driver.

I found two ways to fix my video stuttering problem in Natty:

1. Log in to Ubuntu Classic
This fixed pretty much all of my video problems.

2.Upgrade to the 275 nvidia driver. This made the stuttering under unity
much less severe and only noticeable if I try really hard to see it.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience on accessing or converting an OST to be
accessible in Outlook? Have a user whose profile was trashed and their local
office IT guy screwed around enough to trash Outlook and mailbox on Exchange.
They created a new profile but the original OST is still there.

Any thoughts.

If it is one system, just purchase Apple Remote Desktop. It will let you
remotely install software and updates.

You can patch them centrally, but not with any native tools that I am

There are quite a few 3rd party options, though.

  Just giving a warning..

 Apparently Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3 introduces an issue on BES 5.0 SP2 MR4 and
causes duplicate Sent items to show up on the Blackberry devices. The bug
does not actually send out duplicate e-mails and do not show up as
duplicates in the user’s Sent Items within their mailbox, just on the device
 itself.

Using ALT V-I-E-W on each duplicate message shows a different RefID, so it
almost appears that Exchange might be modifying the Sent item and causes
that to be synced back to the user’s device as a different Sent Item. Just
 a guess anyway…

Rolling back to SP1 RU2 appears to have fixed the issue.

 Thanks,

 James

[Bug 719048] Re: Network on WiFi does not support WPA2 when installing

2011-03-08 Thread Display Name
Salut Mathieu,

I used the text-mode installer from the alternate cd.

And I actually got into trouble there too: the notebook only has a soft-
eject button, and no physical eject button on the drive, so when I was
asked for the other dvd-s, I couldn't add more, because I couldn't swap
the discs. Perhaps adding an eject button in the installer would help
users with slot loading drives (macbooks for example).

Thanks for your help!

David,

These types of scenarios can definitely be frustrating. Especially when it's
acknowledged that you're qualified for the position. I don't mean to sound
like I'm trying to one up you or anything, but I find myself in a similar
predicament. I've been in the field almost as long as you, and with my
current employer going on 10 years. I've been told for the past year (or
longer) that I am more than qualified to be promoted to a Senior Analyst
position. On top of that, I already have the same level of responsbilities,
project load, attend the same meetings, etc. as the existing Senior
Analysts. However, my manager (or their boss) wants to see an updated
certification. My MCP, MCP+I and MCSE are all from NT4 and my CCA is from
Presentation server 4. They'd like to see an MCITP level cert. This
frustrates me because I'm handling the workload of a senior analyst, my
vacation requests are scrutinized because of their lack of providing
cross-training opportunities leaves me the ony resident expert on a
number of key systems, yet I can't officially handle the new title until I
obtain a new cert. With all of that said, they've clearly outlined to me
what it will take to be promoted and I have yet to meet those requirements.
In the end, I have no one else to blame but myself. I'll admit that my
family life takes presedence over my desire to study. Of course the recent
straw that is about to break the camels back is the fact that they recently
added an A+ cert to my list of existing training requirementsbut anyway,
I digress.

If it's not clear to you what is required to be promoted, ask for
clarification. If you feel that the requirements don't warrant the results,
it may be time to start looking for other opportunities.

Hey folks,

I'm trying to implement the quarantine feature on Exchange 2010 RU4 in our
environment. I ran the following PowerShell command and it works flawlessly
except for one thing... Only one device ID per user is allowed. If I try to
activate another deivce for a user, it disables the first device and vice-versa.

Set-ActiveSyncOrganizationSettings -DefaultAccessLevel Quarantine
-AdminMailRecipients administra...@domain.commailto:administra...@domain.com

For example, a user with a Droid and a Samsung tablet can only have one device
activated at a time. Also, users who use the touchdown app on their Droid get
2 device ID's so their phone can't be activated.

Any ideas on how I can use the quarantine feature and have more than one active
Device ID?

Thanks,

We can take this offline if you want, but Set-CASMailbox requires that you pass
ALL the valid ActiveSyncDeviceIDs in at once. If you only pass one in, it will
overwrite the prior value.

If it isn't clear to you how to retrieve the prior value and then add a new
value to the approved list, please let me know.

Multiple device IDs are absolutely supported (and known to work - I've tested
it).

 Good Afternoon,

Hopefully, this is a simple issue, but I'd like to stop banging my head
 against the desk

We have a user that changed her name a few years ago and all of the mail from
the maiden name account was being forwarded to her married name account

We have migrated all of our users to Exchange 2007 SP1 from Exchange 2003

The maiden name account has since been deleted and she receives all of her
 mail without incident

When sending a meeting request to her ONLY account on our server, I get the
following error from our Exchange Server

Thank you to any and all in advance,

I am having to explain to some pita’s what uses up all the bandwidth when
they are wanting to get on the Internet.

For these pita’s the Internet is wide open.  So they can get music, video,
 large files, etc…

If I told them listening to the radio via Internet or watching video’s on
the internet or setting a lot of graphics in their email background causes
some lag in Internet usage I would correct?

What else eats up the available bandwidth?

[Bug 719051] [NEW] Fan control kernel module loaded, but not activated AOA ZG5 150L

2011-02-14 Thread Display Name
Public bug reported:

Fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install

Fan control kernel module loaded, but not activated, dmesg after first
boot:

[ 13.491404] acerhdf: Fan control off, to enable do:
[ 13.491409] acerhdf: echo -n enabled
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/mode

which I did manually:

echo -n enabled /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/mod

so now:

[ 607.464519] acerhdf: kernel mode fan control ON

as expected. (could acer-wmi work too?) This is not a permanent solution
though.

[Bug 719054] [NEW] black screen after returning from suspend/hibernate AOA ZG5 150L

2011-02-14 Thread Display Name
Public bug reported:

On a Fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install the machine has a black screen after returning
from suspend/hibernate (for example by opening the lid after having closed it
down after the first boot).
If I close the lid, I expect it to suspend (I suspect it does, because the HDD
led blinks and then settles and power led becomes sleepy), but when I open it,
it is just a blank screen. Same for hibernate it seems: it goes off, but
comes back with a black screen.
Also, when I close the lid with the power plugged, it goes to sleep, but not
really: the fan speeds up, and produces a lot of heat, even after the plug is
removed. Morale: unplug before closing the lid!

Subject: Manually modify File Size

I want to create a 5GB file by manipulating the file size attribute. Anyone
know how I can modify the file size?

The reason I want to do this
-I want to stick a 5GB file on all of my exchange DB volumes so I have a 5GB
quick buffer incase my database grows to quick and dismounts due to no more
space on the volume
-When the database dismounts I can delete the file and have space to keep
running without going to the SAN peeps and begging for more storage
-Doing anything with a 5GB file takes a while - if I can artificially
manipulate the file size I can avoid the time it would take to create the file,
copy the file and to delete the file.
- I could script the deletion with commands to shrink the file
from 5GB to 5KB then delete the file

Thanks, Bill. That's what I'm thinking, but I don't know of anything that
has changed. I just looked at the TCP/IP properties of the NIC on the laptop

since we're not using the firewall here... maybe that'll fix it.

+1. If you are on the same network as another computer that is working,
then you have something unique on the non-working computer that is causing
the problem. For example, that whole split-tunneling thing that people keep
mentioning. And while I doubt it is an issue here, I know from personal
experience that the Microsoft Firewall Client (part of ISA, not to be
confused with the Windows Firewall (and, really, why would you be--that's
hardly a confusing naming scheme at all)) will not work in conjunction with
 the Cisco VPN client.

Well, I can RDP from my wife's computer back to the servers or my work
desktop, so yes, they know how to get back through the VPN. Not sure about
the last question, but either way, as long as it works on my wife's desktop,
but not on my laptop (when I'm at home OR out on the road) it shouldn't
matter, should it? I think everyone keeps overlooking the fact that it works
at home ON MY WIFE'S DESKTOP, but NOT on my company laptop, when at home OR
on the road. I tried it plugged up to an Ethernet jack at a seminar Tuesday
and it did not work. I tried it wirelessly at McDonald's and while I was
able to get around, surfing the web and even SSH into my linux box at home,
I was not able to RDP while connected to the VPN. I also plugged up to the
Ethernet at home and tried to VPN and RDP from the same physical network as
my wife's PC, and was unable to connect via RDP. Cisco client *said* I was
connected, but I was unable to get past the firewall at the office.

your Terminal Server know how to route back to the VPN client ? Incorrect
default gateway for the VPN tunnel ? Your VPN passing source address or
 using NAT ?

Yeah... but if the same *exact* account works on the Desktop, but not on

If the Cisco VPN client connects, but then you can't access anything on
the network, you most likely have some kind of routing problem. The VPN
client has to decide whether to send traffic through the VPN tunnel or
over the local network. This decision is based on the split tunneling
settings (as indicated below) and the available/advertised routes on
both networks. Generally speaking, if the VPN client has an IP address
that is also in the range of a network on the other side (think private
addresses), you can have issues--some of which can be mitigated with the
 split tunneling settings.
