changes to the patch, almost all to make the patch adhere to the [code

Could you take a look and make sure this didn't accidentally break your 
changes? The only intended functional change was to {{Helper}} (renamed 
{{StatUtils}}), to use the {{recursive}} parameter. It looks like this was 
accidentally unused.
