What about if we hack the data format of u-blox AGPS offline file, and extract data for current location and time? location can be specified by clicking map, time from local system time. If we could, we would be able to submit data to GPS chip as AGPS online message on demand. What do you think? Hi Rikard, Yes, take a look at www.opencellid.org. This will give you your rough location and you can use that to get the agps data for your area. I have some scripts that will do that for you, so just let me know if you are intressted. Hi list. Is it possible to extract a IPK-package (some_package.ipk)? I do not want to install anything - just inspect the package on my Ubuntu-machine. I have been able to extract some packages by using tar -zxvf after renaming the extension to tar.gz - though I cant with all packages (and I dont know why). I'd like to see things like these to be easy to install use, an ipkg package would be nice :) When someone posted the agps program to opkg.org I was inspired to try it and it seems to work very well, it's fast to get the fix. If agps would get the rough location information from opencellid I suppose it would be even faster (though gprs connection is the thing that slows down this a lot). But using only opencellid would give you a rough estimation of the location quickly also when you don't have time to run gprs to download the agps data. If you want to create .ipk-packages, you should take a look at the ipkg-build.sh-script. You basically just do this: ipkg-build.sh folder_with_files/ In the folder_with_files-folder you then put stuff like: usr/share/applications/shortcut.desktop opt/my_application/app.rb CONTROL/control It is very easy to use. paroli package is back
Hi, after some long struggles the paroli package is back. There is packages in fso MS5 openmoko unstable (those two are the same) as well as openmoko experimental. The latter should be build from the latest revision. A small manual how to get it: Install the following: kernel: http://downloads.freesmartphone.org/fso-stable/milestone5/om-gta02/uImage-om-gta02-latest.bin image: http://downloads.freesmartphone.org/fso-stable/milestone5/om-gta02/openmoko-fso-illume-image-glibc-ipk--20090202-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2 In order to get the package from experimental you'll need to add a file: create a file in the /etc/opkg folder with the content: src/gz openmoko-experimental-armv4t http://downloads.openmoko.org/repository/experimental/armv4t Then do an opkg-update and opkg install paroli . Hey all, is anybody out there who is using the FR on longer trips for navigation and/or geocaching? How did you solve the power problem? I would love to have an adapter from my hub generator for the Freerunner. Should not be too difficult. Something to convert AC to DC and then maybe some switching thing to getthe right voltage (DC/DC converter or what). Does anybody have a solution or some hints? paroli meets fso
Hi, I met with the fso team last week and wanted to share some of the outcomes. We talked about releases and especially about what we need for a fully functional paroli. We came up with fso milestone 5.5. It will focus on the tings desperately needed for paroli - namely bluetooth, pim and some loose end that need tying, some sms issues etc. To help the process along we will create a contacts:opimd service using the fso api and start working with it and deliver first insights into its functionality etc. In other pim sections is still work needed. The messages pim is not quite there yet but we will coordinate with fso to see how we can help. Logs are in pim at all yet, but are among the top 3 priorities and here as well we hope to work together, and if you think this is your place, pop us a mail. All help is appreciated. We also talked on how to make paroli more interesting to developers and testers. So I will help anyone who goes about building devel tools such as the gsm monitor or likewise in paroli. The structure is so open that it shouldn't be too much work. Also the question of a screenlock a la zhone arose ... I think we need one or is there an easy way to get into using pre-existing tools? In short: - fso ms 5.5 will contains everything needed by paroli - pim, bt, small fixes - fso will have a watchdog to restart paroli in case of crash - paroli will start using opimd as soon as possible and help moving it along - paroli invites developer tools - if you have an idea and just need a hint about how to get started or some edje support, mail, irc, jabber - screenlock? - small fixes to design needed in paroli, such as volume control in various places. Hi Alex, Personally I just use a solar charger with a large waterproof panel strapped over my panniers (http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/products/Solar_Chargers/Globetrotter_green.asp). I also carry a couple of spare batteries in case the weather is really bad. Alex Hi, from what i read probably the best way is to convert AC current to DC and use NiMH batteries for current excess. But my skills in this area are very poor. My plan is to use utilize batteries that are inside my front light which is Hella HL 2000. I didnt have time and wasnt brave enough to try it yet. It is not a problem that user account is required when download u-blox online aiding data. The download protocol is fairly simple, can be implemented within several hours in C. (1) appaly for a free account by sending a email to u-blox (2) format request package by filling in user/password/lat/lon and other optional data such as pacc, (3) submit request and get response data, (4) parse aiding data from the reply (it's a block of binary data after header lines), (5) write the binary data to GPS device. The binary data block contains about 50+ individual aiding messages The account is free. AFAIK, u-blox AsssistNow service should be one of the most open/free A-GPs services, and the up-to-14 days offline data is very attractive comparing to others. What I'm concern is: don't know how to eat the big cake without knowing the format -- unlike online data, there is no ubx binary message headers (0xB5, 0x62) inside offline file. I guess, each alp file (N days) should be contains the following data: time range(from, to): each file contains data of [1,2,3,5,7,10,14] days region IDs: the earth is divided into R regions each cover a (lat/lon?) area. satellite IDs: 24 satellites each has it's unique orbit. region visible satellites: at any time only several satellites visible to a user. differential almanac correction data: for each satellite (at the unit of hours). Nothing helps regardless where the data come from, if either don't know how to extract aiding data from offline data, or data format in-compatible. Hi all, I have tested the Nokia 5800 xpressmusic, and its small keyboard looks like this : http://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/all-about-symbian-review_-nokia-5800-xpressmusic-preview-part-1-1.jpg It is quite usable with finger (not nail, not thumb, but the index finger), I made very few typo with it (I was not moving) : - the system seems to detect the pressure point quite well - no predictive keyboard behind - 360x640 pixels, so not wider than FR. Another thing which is quite comfortable : the haptic feedback. When you click on something, the phone vibrate, but it doesn't feel like a vibration but more like a 0.5mm nudge... it feels solid. I also carry a couple of spare batteries in case the weather is really bad. I though about such for quite a long time as well but voted against it. It adds too much to carry around (for my taste). Alex Hi, from what i read probably the best way is to convert AC current to DC and use NiMH batteries for current excess. But my skills in this area are very poor. My plan is to use utilize batteries that are inside my front light which is Hella HL 2000. I didnt have time and wasnt brave enough to try it yet. Insofar outlay is concerned, I find the outlay of the following alternative illume default keyboard to be a lot better than the original layout: http://www.opkg.org/package_101.html When you install it, it does not overwrite or replace the original default keyboard, but give you a default-alt option in the selectable keybord list. I find this layout to be very thumb-friendly, and I can quite rapidly and accurately type text messages with one or two thumbs. Accuracy with thinner fingers are even better in my experience. I'm quite sure that people with big hands and thick fingers could comfortably use this layout. I have some hopefully few questions: - has anyone a working version from fso-pkg of e17+illume? ...it seems that the keyboard is not working. - i'm using the package posted here in october... but I saw e17 from shr and it's really faster that that (it uses xrender...)... do you have any hint about a source where to find a updated version? I'm driving crazy with gtk applications under e17, so slow so screen-freezing... - I tried to compile e17 to build some packages for the community, but with no luck... is there anyone of you that built it and has time to make a deb? And then a big capacitor to smooth out the DC thus generated. According to the hw list, you need to ensure something between 4V and 5V for the freerunner. Not above 5V, and under 4V can apparently cause trouble too except for 0V. There are voltage regulator chips that can be used for providing 5V. A zener diode can also prevent too high voltage, but the simplest way of using it will turn your generator into a brake as it simply wastes any excess electricity. Curse all these python 2.5 versus 2.6 issues! The mutagen package was actually built for 2.5 and not 2.6 (my fault). I have fixed this and uploaded a new version to opkg.org. Note that I changed the version number. I have also added a list of the dependencies and where one can acquire them to the main pythm page of opkg.org. Hopefully I remembered all of them. Unfortunately, the packages are all over the place and not consistent python 2.5 versus 2.6. Until a stable/accepted distribution arises, one will need to be mindful of such things and ready to copy files into the correct python lib directory. [FSO M5] - Answering a Call
Hello All -- Does anyone know a good fix for the answer call delay.. When I get a call, I hit the answer button, and it takes approx. 3-5 seconds for the phone to actually pick the call up??? What the heck is it doing? heh... The schottky diodes have a lower voltage drop than normal rectifier diodes which is the reason to use them in this case. I suggest this be fixed either by including the rootfs, or by including a readme.html that explains why the rootfs is missing, and where to find one. Comments? In particular, this means we probably wait until the ring tone has stopped before actually taking the call and switching the audio scenario. Thanks to gstreamer and its audio buffers, this can take up to 3 seconds. This behaviour is slightly suboptimal for calls to different subsystems, which do not need to be serialized. Please open a ticket with this mail, so we do not forget the issue and I'll try to come up with a speed-up. In the meantime, please check whether applying the attached patch improves it for you. The wiki page is very helpful in that it points to a separate page which discusses the different versions of the rootfs, but the links point to the same place above which has only the kernel. Minimo file download problems
Hello all, I have a strange problem and I wonder whether somebody else have noticed it: I cannot download files with Minimo from web links. It complains that it cannot save the file as /tmp/blah.ext because the source file cannot be read, yet with Firefox on my desktop the file downloads fine. In contrast, simply browsing the web works fine. On my distro /tmp is linked to /var/volatile/tmp, and all the directories have sufficient access rights for user root to write to them. Interesting one! Does somebody know why this is so, and whether there's a way around the problem? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. What now? I'd been editing it after reading your previous post and pointing those four links at the build.shr-project.org folders, and sure enough the testing images are not complete there. However, the unstable images ARE at that site, and unstable is so far beyond testing that at this time installing shr-testing is probably not a good idea. I've got the wiki pointing at the same four targets (testing and unstable for gta01 and gta02) with what are currently valid links. good 2.6.28 kernel for 2008.12
Hello, I've been using 2008.12 for a while now and it works really good. But there's a need to change to a 2.6.28 kernel due to some bugs. I tried the newest andy-tracking, but it's really unstable. Qpe and Enlightenment crash all the time, Duke3d doesn't work. Can anyone suggest a 2.6.28 image that's stable enough for daily use?
