rework

2009-03-10 Thread Petr Vanek
hi,

i was lucky enough to get someone to perform the gsm buzz rework.

i find the images used in the
http://people.openmoko.org/joerg/GSM_EMI_noise/big-C_rework_SOP_rc2.pdf
quite rather _small_ therefore please find some of my pictures done via
microscope here: http://vanous.penguin.cz/files/om/SOP/

Please feel free to use them to improve your manual.

Also, we found that placing the 100uF cap according to the manual is
rather strange and could cause problems in future - so we placed the
cap in a way that is will be soldered to the PCB on both ends, making
it hold really tight (that particular picture is somewhat blurry)

We didn't have 2k2 in 0402 size so we used 2x 80Ohm in series (we just
built a A shape with them).

The fix works - done on two units, one showed gsm buzz before and now
it's gone.

Some of the other pictures show D4301, D4302, as under the microscope we
found one of them damaged from manufacturing - placing the cover -
something om might watch for.

cheers
petr

[QTE 4.4.3] Determining which version of GSM firmware I have.

2009-03-10 Thread Friedrich Clausen
Hi All,

I am currently running QT Extended 4.4.3 and I was wondering how I can
determine which GSM firmware I have? I read that moko11 is the
appropriate version to use. I don't actually have any echo problems
but I thought it prudent to run the latest GSM firmware but first I
want to see what I have.

You need to request the wlan resource, e.g. by calling

mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.ousaged /org/freesmartphone/Usage
org.freesmartphone.Usage.SetResourcePolicy WiFi enabled

Afterwards you have interface eth0 available; I had to manually set up
essid (iwconfig eth0 essid blabla) to get it working.

Looks like there was some confusion and this information is
incorrect. The installed firmware version can't make upgrading harder,
especially given you use the ROM bootloader.

7s TTFF is pretty good. I got that once, but usually I have about 16s
 TTFF.

I do not get 7s every time. This was an ideal test, I was standing in a
place with good visibility. the gps used 9 or so satellites. Then I
stopped tangogps and restarted it, and timed it from the moment the
tangogps screen showed. (So as to not include the startup time for
tangogps itself). The TTFF is usually a little longer inside a bus or
building.

I also raised pacc from 3km to 9km, as I often enough travel a bit
more than 3km with the gps unit off.

I'm interested to hear how that affects TTFF. The way I understand it
initial position is only used to calculate which SVs are in view so the
chip knows which SVs to search for. So a pacc of 3km or 9km shouldn't
have any noticable effect. This is just guesswork though, so any
results on your part would be greatly appreciated.

It was just to be safe. The documentation states that you might not get
a fix _at all_ if either position or time is outside the claimed
accuracy. Now, maybe it works with 3km anyway after the fixes that
prevents the chip-crashing exception. I happen to live about 6km away
from where I work, so 9km was a nice safe value. The default is 300km,
and 100km allows a more optimistic startup. Perhaps such rough
estimates is all that is needed, if it is only used to figure which
satellites that can be seen.

I need your help to trigger the following actions :

* Do an action when receiving a sms containing e.G mypasswd. For now, I
tried
*#on incomming SMS
DISPLAY=:0.0 echo test
/home/root/Scripts/message.txt=org.freesmartphone.GSM.SMS;org.freesmartphone.ogsmd;/org/freesmartphone/GSM/Device;IncomingMessage;
*

-- It does not react (no file created) + it lacks content reading

* Store each phonenumber for each incomming call (just for testing). For
now, I can do
*#on incomming call from 00
DISPLAY=:0.0 echo $(date +%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S)
/home/root/Scripts/call.txt=org.freesmartphone.GSM.Call;org.freesmartphone.ogsmd;/org/freesmartphone/GSM/Device;CallStatus;arg[1]=incoming
*

-- pbm here : I do not know how to put the phone number in my echo
command.

* Change profile from default to silent when the phone is for example
face down on a table
-- anyway to do this with dbus ?

Well, I think this capacity of dbus is a huge space to conquer (for me). We
are only limited by our imagination :D Openmoko is great !
Anyway, thanks in advance

surprisingly i can't see great improvements between fbdev and xlamo...
 is really that fast?)

In my homedir /root i only got .xsession [1] and no .xsessionrc file.
Should i link to this file instead?
And should the link be .xinitrc or .xinit (without rc because my session
 file is named without rc)?

The subjective feeling for the xglamo speed is a bit smoother than with
fbdev but i could imagine it. :)
The most important part is that xrandr works with xglamo why i want to
 use it.

 Ciao,
  Rainer

 [1] .xsession content:
 #/bin/sh
 . ~/bashrc
 export GTK_MODULE=libgtkstylus.so

there is one bug - missing keyboard and dict data, just copy it to

i will fix it in next build

 One more question:
i'm looking for backlight gadget like mixer, exists something like that?
i don't want to use exposure, because it is slow and has only 3 backlight
 levels
if there is no, i'll try to make it, but hmm i have no experiences with e

Re: Transparent keyboard in illume

2009-03-10 Thread Richard Guest
Thanks for sharing your work Richard... I agree transparent qwo is the
killer keyboard.

I had a crack at getting this going on 2008.12 yesterday using your binary
packages, but not surprisingly failed with e-wm.

I can report that the patched xserver + composite extension, composite
manager and transparent qwo binaries install and work fine on 2008.12.
Unfortunately e-wm packages (e-wm-utils, illume etc.) have changed since
2008.12...

I'll have a go at building from source, but first wanted to check if anyone
else out there had already done it?

Cheers,
Rich

This new version uses the AT command to set both
echo suppression and noise reduction at the same
time as well as setting them on initialisation and
  after a wake up.

This is identical to the patch against QtE 4.4.2 and
applied cleanly with no fuzz with QtE 4.4.3.

It did for me - absolutely refused to upgrade in every way I tried until
I downgraded (as per the wiki page) and then the upgrade worked fine.
This happened with moko10 and trying to upgrade to moko11 - yes doesnt

specifically mentioned it means its a real problem.

Looks like there was some confusion and this information is
incorrect. The installed firmware version can't make upgrading harder,
especially given you use the ROM bootloader.
