Re: [QtMoko] MokoFaen theme update

2013-02-12 Thread francesco . devita

Hi!
Here it is a new version of MokoFaen theme, you can download and test it
here: [1].
There are no major changes: some icons have been redone, a
first-boot-screen [2] and a wallpaper [3] have been added and the
callscreen has been revised [4],[5].

In the main menu I changed the order of the icons [6] in this way:
- row 1, phone and messages functionalities;
- row 2, clock and calendar;
- row 3, applications and documents;
- row 4, tools and settings;
To apply this, you have to change the file
/opt/qtmoko/etc/defaultbuttons.conf [7]

In doing this update I noticed some aspects that could be improved, but
they require a work on the code:
- in the dialer screen, there are 2/3 of the context bar completely
unused, in this space we could put the recent call and sms buttons;

- larger icons and text in the main menu, see this discussion [8];
- I made an icon for the input method plugin in the context bar but I
was unable to apply it (see previous messages);
- inbox message screen, the fields from: and date: should be on top
of the message not at the bottom;
- in the home screen, a click on the clock could open up the calendar
application;

Feedbacks are always appreciated.

Best Regards
Joif

Hi,
i really love the improvements! The theme is really beautiful and the new
welcome screen is really nice too. Next release will for sure have this
updated theme.

I wonder when i will have some time to take a look at the code changes...

Thanks for your work!

Re: [QtMoko] MokoFaen theme update

2013-02-06 Thread francesco . devita

Hi
I found the icon on QtMoko GIT, branch master. It is kb.png and it is
present in these locations:

- qtmoko/src/plugins/inputmethods/biglandscapekeyboard/pics
- qtmoko/src/plugins/inputmethods/fingerkeyboard/pics
- qtmoko/src/plugins/inputmethods/keyboard/pics

In QtMoko all the icons should be in /opt/qtmoko/pics/ but there is no
trace of this one.

Suggestions? Thank you.

Joif

Hello
I'm working on an update of MokoFaen theme. I'm trying to add a new
icon for the keyboard in the context bar, please see [1], but I didn't
find the location of the original icon to be replaced. I tried to look
at some source code but without luck, can someone help me?
Please note that there is keyboard.png in /opt/qtmoko/pics/qpe but
it is not the icon I'm looking for, it's only a similar one.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, i cant find it either :( Since we dont use any of these keyboard it's
likely that it's another bitmap. It can be compiled in binary using as qt
resource. but i really cant find where it can be done...

Yes it is, but I'm looking at conky just to have some inspiration.
Indeed I don't know if it is possible to use conky under QtMoko and if
it's convenient to use it.

Mmm ok, maybe it's just an issue on my GTA02, I don't know if it's a
common issue.

So for now the lock-screen button will stay there (:

If I had one wish: would it be possible to optionally position the
buttons on the right side? Im left-handed ;)

I'll see what I can do ;)

Re: [QtMoko] MokoFaen theme, update

2012-08-24 Thread robin
Hi,

I really like your theme a lot just as it is. Personally I would reduce the
top bar even more in size to give the applications as much of the screen as
possible. What I also liked in the new finxi theme is the ability to see the
current power consumption. If the keyboard toggle is moved to the middle of
bottom bar the keyboard in the top bar is not needed anymore and the free
space could be used to display the power consumption.
For the dialer I just have one wish: Included a recent calls button. I need
this quite often, much more often than the addressbook, so that would be very
nice to have.
Regarding the color theme I think having it with the most contrast is the
really the best, because then you could reduce the backlight even more to
save power and you screen still stays brisk and readable. Some source for
color themes may also be:

http://colorusage.arc.nasa.gov/bkg_1.php
http://colorusage.arc.nasa.gov/ColorTool.php
http://colorusage.arc.nasa.gov/design_lum_1.php

from the NASA website and for them it should be really crucial to be good at
designing readable themes.

best regards and again many thanks for mokofaen!

robin

Nice. For me lock button is the most used button. I use it for suspending (on
GTA04 i have that it suspends after 3s when locked).

Theming *is* a critical task. I use only the MokoFaen theme because
(a) it looks much better and (b) the default Finxi theme had a bug (at
one point) where if you hung up the phone with the number pad showing,
the menu was messed up the next time you were in a call. MokoFaen has
always worked great for me.

 Hi list!

 I'm going to work to an update for the MokoFaen theme for QtMoko. I'm
 planning a few changes to it but I really would like to have some
 feedback from the community.

I like MokoFaen a lot. I think it's more beautiful and elegant than
Finxi, and has better overall use of the screen space.

Nevertheless I still switch back to Finxi quite frequently - simply
because that's where Radek adds new things, and sometimes I need to see
those.

I think the challenge is more or less exactly as you've said below: how
can you allow for all those extra little bits of information, while
still staying elegant?

 Usually I just follow my taste, but I admit that my work sometimes
 lacks beauty and functionality. So I'm asking you to give me some
 hints, to tell me what you like, what you don't like, what features do

 For now I found some aspects that I would like to change:
 - The theme became heavy, if you use a GTA02 you can notice a less
   responsiveness of the system, compared to the default Finxi theme.
   I have to lighten the graphical elements;

FWIW, on GTA04 I don't notice this.

 - The theme became also heavy from an aesthetic point of view, maybe
   a more minimal style could be pleasant;

I don't know, because I only looked at MokoFaen recently. It doesn't
seem heavy to me as it is now.

 - In the home screen there are a lot of infos displayed, maybe they
   can be regrouped in a more efficient way, I'm thinking about
   something like conky [1] or conky-colors [2];

Those links look nice to me. I suppose if a bunch of information moved
inside conky, and then each theme's homescreen embedded conky,

- the advantage would be only having to manage that information in one
  place

- the disadvantage would be that it would become more different to theme
  those pieces of information in a very fine-grained way.

That's quite finely balanced... Perhaps what swings it, in favour of
conky, is that when you have a large collection of basically numbers to
present, it's good to impose some more structure on that.

 I know that theming is not a critical task, for me it's just an
 amusement, but your opinions and help could be really useful.

It's much appreciated, all the same. Seems to make the phone a bit more
human.

Regards,
Neil
