The 1000 person-years that would be required for such a task should instead be spent doing something more productive, like searching for a cancer cure. Anyone who spends his or her time reimplementing perfectly good existing code merely because of license- worshipping concerns is guilty of contributing to human suffering, and thus a disgrace in my eyes.
