Yes it's fine, if it actually turns up there.

I see thismorning they're cooking again.

Grab most recent kernel package here:

http://downloads.openmoko.org/repository/unstable/om-gta02/

Of course I understood we no longer made individual module packages, but
there they are in that repo. So quite what users have to do to get that
straight I dunno: any advice welcome as to what I should say to
customers anxious to test current kernel package.

U-Boot version we use anyway has no SD layer support at all, I added

Yes, they (whoever they are) have packages from 16th September, it
doesn't look like we broke the build since everywhere is different aged
 package.

The fso-testing distro builds the version of the linux-openmoko kernel
denotes as latest stable by the conf/distro/include/sane-srcrevs.inc
file, which currently in OE git (not OM git) on the org.openembedded.dev
branch says:

SRCREV_pn-linux-openmoko ?= ca19d156400f817960efe0d14680324b2ea34171

In OM git, that same file (in the org.openmoko.dev branch) says:

SRCREV_pn-linux-openmoko ?= a1e97c611253511ffc2d8c45e3e6d6894fa03fa3

which surprise surprise matches the ipk in
http://downloads.openmoko.org/repository/testing/om-gta02/

I have no idea what determines which version is built for the feeds at
http://downloads.openmoko.org/repository/unstable/om-gta02/
since there is no published build configuration on
downloads.openmoko.org anywhere to be found.

It's up the the person in charge of testing the linux-openmoko bitbake
recipe to determine what the latest stable version in the feeds should
be by updating that sane-srcrevs.inc file (after booting an image using
that kernel of course).

And also, if I may be so bold as to suggest, not to claim that

Personally my wishes are rather more prosaic - simply to be able to use

resembles a length of taught string and downloading the entire kernel

I expect you want it as part of the unstable feed, not the testing feed.
I can fully agree with that. People who use the unstable feed are the
people who know they are testing the integration and distro consistency.

No, it definitely belongs in unstable, but never in testing
automatically. Someone has to make a conscious decision (and commitment
to the community that it should work) to edit sane-srcrevs.inc to make
something new appear in testing.

This is certainly something we need, the only question is where to put

Unstable feed is the appropriate place for kernel stable branch head.

i am now sure: i don't need it. I made many other experiments (about
log2(50)) and i found out that the maximum value for the sd_max_clock which
can still read the card is

int(50MHz / 19) =2631578 Hz

(why this value? maybe something crucial happens at low level when you raise
from this value?)
Anyway, i don't absolutely need the idleclock, it was just one of the thing
tried to make it work.
Probably the problem is just that i bought a very slow card.. I hope that
performances will be sufficient to boot something from it, or maybe i could
keep it just to save my mp3s..

i attach my u-boot environment, just in case anyone pass through the same
pain he can try to take inspiration from it. the menus which successfully
boot with the card are the 4 and the 10.

if any other test could be useful to debug just tell me what to do.. at the
moment i don't mind loosing the card content, i just put an experimental
environment inside, and it seems not to boot very well..

unable to read from Sandisk 8Gb SD

2008-09-14 Thread Previdi Roberto
Hello. I have a big problem: i cannot read a new 8Gb SD card from Sandisk.

some details:

- the 512 Mb card works without any problem, i've been able to reformat it,
use ext2 on it, mount /usr in it
- i have partitioned the 8Gb card from my pc card reader and i've put a
kernel and a rootfs inside it as the wiki explain
- my FR card slot have got a little capacitor soldered between 2 pins, like
in this image (
http://makovey.objectis.net/Members/dimon/issues/om/microSD2.jpg/view) , but
with better soldering
- during all the experiments i never suspended-resumed the phone, and i am
sure the partitions in the card are not corrupted (because i checked them
periodically with the card reader)

- the boot loader see the card, and is able to load a kernel from it!
(in NAND menu)
$ cu -l /dev/ttyACM0
Connected.
