[Cooker] New Free Wifi drivers from Atheros
Atheros communication has announced they are publishing Wifi drivers (MADWIFI): A Linux device driver for 802.11a/b/g universal NIC cards - either Cardbus, PCI, or miniPCI - that use Atheros chip sets (ar5210, ar5211, ar5212). You will find it here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi/ and the announcement here : http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS5488767869.html In the announcement, they suggest that these drivers could even work as universal drivers, not only with Atheros chips. But I am no sure if the server will send the namespace to the client and whether migration will be transparent or not, but I suspect it will be a problem (having played with this a while back ...). Seems like this should be something the administrator can configure as he/she wishes. I'll look at it further. As long as either: 1)There is no problem upgrading from the non-folder-patched version to the folder-patched version (has been tested) or 2)It is well documented, and preferably some script to migrate existing mboxes is provided. It's probably not safe to do this in %post either. Also, I am not sure if $HOME/Mail is an ideal choice, unless interoperation with kmail (which uses $HOME/Mail by default IIRC) has been tested. [Cooker] naming policy
Hi. This may not the right moment to discuss about this, but I think we should set up a naming policy for the rpm. To give a simple exemple, the python module. Some of them are named foo-python, and the others are named python-bar. example adns-python, libxslt-python vs python-xoltar, python-fam i suggest to stick to python-bar form, in the same way that perl modules are named. this can be applied to xmms modules, apache2 modules, ruby extensions and a lot of software. Most of them are maintened by the same person ( abiword = mpol , xine = goetz ), so, there is consistency, but, for the other, there is no standard In order to enforce the policy, i have coded a rpmlint extension, and i have send it to Frederic Lepied 2 month ago, but i was busy and forget to talk about the subject on the list. He said it would be present for the next release of rpmlint. So, i propose the policy as implemented in the rpmlint test. mainly, xmms plugin in /usr/lib/xmms/ must begin with xmms-, and the same for python, ruby, perm, php, fortune. I didn't add all the pssible test, they can be quite easily added in the future. I know that there is a lot of exception to be added to rpmlint, in order to support this test, but we will see this later. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4299 Product: Installation Component: Installation Summary: Improve package installation progress dialog Product: Installation Version: 1.810 Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: Installation AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I think this dialog could use some improvement. Mainly I am thinking about reordering the information. On detailed version they should be in this order: Installing package: name of package Description of package being installed Progresbar for package being installed Overall progress: current package/all packages Progresbar for overall installation Time remaining: time remaining In no details version only the second part for overall progress should be displayed and above it there should be Mandrake images like now.
