 python-base = 2.2 is needed by libuser1-0.51.7-5mdk

what about remove this one shared module from libuser1 package, or

I agree with you, but, i would prefer the module to be named

Why not 1.2.8 while you're at it?

If the latest kernel source package is installed the iptables configure logic
will pick up the new netfilter modules used by Mandrake.

As a side note I would appreciate if Mandrake (quintela) would consider adding

You will find it here :

and the announcement here :

In the announcement, they suggest that these drivers could even work as

Probably worth including it in the distribution ?

 3)We need a Mandrake logo

And the black background should be changed to mandrake-colors

On kde-look, there has been a Debian one which has been updated a few

Remember though to plan for the LILO splash screen also. With a black

I don't think so.

You would put #!/bin/ash in the script.

No kidding. But if you have 50-100 scripts you want to test, it is much
quicker to link ash to sh, then you only have to edit the ones which use
bash-isms, not all of them.

But it is still a bug that scripts which requires bash use #!/bin/sh, if
they won't work with a strictly compliant Bourne shell (such as ash),
then they must use #!/bin/bash.

i'll be in holydays from tonight up to monday 18th august, so i won't
be able to answer bugs.

as usual, just fill the bugzilla vampire with blood^h^h^h^h^h bug
reports with enough information.

eg:
- if you encounter a crash, run the app from the console and copy in
  the perl backtrace
- if you see some gui inconsistency, provide enough information to
  locate the pb:
o run with LC_ALL=C in order to me being able to locate more easily
the bad code
o which steps did you follow to encounter the bug, ...

do not hesitate to fill bugzilla with bad button layout, unexpected
behavior so that we build up more robust tools for next release.
we've already did quite some work (which means we've still more to do
:-( )

the more info you provide, the faster i'll fix bugs

i'll try to fix as many bugs as possible once i'll be back (i'd still
have a long todo list to flush :-( )

btw, guillaume, poulpy and pixel should be back last week, so
rpmdrake, drakconnect network backend and drakx should get more
attention.

especially, this will be the time to fix most of the little but
annoying bugs that have spread into drakconnect :-)

see you

Hmmm, I think we need to add the policy for requesting updated packages
to the Wiki. I don't think Per Ovyind cares about the latest release or
not of a package, in some cases updating means fixing other things you
may know nothing about, or having to test more things, whereas (I
assume) he's just cleaning up specs and making sure they build.

Maintainers get spammed weekly anyway, so usually there will be a reason
it has not been updated (maintainer too busy, other packages should be
updated first etc etc).

Maybe we should see if we can get gc to have rpmwatcho publish the
reports somewhere accessible, so non-maintainers can see this too?

Possibly not. Guiseppe convinced me there was an issue with various
clients creating a variety of mail folder arrangements under $HOME, so it
seemed a good idea to at least centralize under $HOME/Mail. I didn't
really consider existing installations, and probably should have. In
reality, I'm not sure how many people use a number of different clients,
except maybe initially, when they are trying to find one that suites them.
Seems like this should be something the administrator can configure as

 I didn't

reality, I'm not sure how many people use a number of different clients,

I am not sure if using different mail clients would cause the issue. But
I am no sure if the server will send the namespace to the client and
whether migration will be transparent or not, but I suspect it will be a
problem (having played with this a while back ...).

Seems like this should be something the administrator can configure as
he/she wishes. I'll look at it further.

As long as either:
1)There is no problem upgrading from the non-folder-patched version to
the folder-patched version (has been tested)
or
2)It is well documented, and preferably some script to migrate existing
mboxes is provided. It's probably not safe to do this in %post either.

Also, I am not sure if $HOME/Mail is an ideal choice, unless
interoperation with kmail (which uses $HOME/Mail by default IIRC) has
been tested.

basically, you've no mixer since you've no oss compat modules loaded (mainly
snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss)
these were not loaded since the driver failled to acquire some i/o ressources.

hence this is a kernel fixes.

lots of fixes have occured in alsa since 0.9.2 (which is what we currently
provide in our kernel).

especially the maestro3 driver got fixed in 0.9.3a.

i expect 0.9.6 to have quite a lot more fixes due to more general testing due to
 official inclusion in kernel-2.6.x tree.
at this time, cvs is filled up with quite many fixes, especially on libalsa side.

so, juan, please update to current alsa-drivers 0.9.5.

ALSA drivers and utils in Mandrake are obsolete. The Alsa project has released
the 0.9.5 version. It is very important for Envy24HT based cards owners
(Terratec Aureon Sky/Space, Creative Audigy 2, M-audio revolution) since these
cards are supported only since the 0.9.4 drivers, using the snd-ice1724 module.
Please update them, since these cards are more and more popular. Thanks.

Mandrake rejected it. So I just canceled all the dialogs and it appears that
there was nothing to be installed as after I configured my printer manuylly
printing worked just fine. So in addition of printer not being detected there

You have to provide preprocessed source of mipmap.c. e.g. copy-pase the
command-line involving gcc and the crash and add -fsave-temps. You will
get mipmap.i, I need this file.

-mfpmath=sse,387 flags in addition to the Mesa defaults.

The doc says this is experimental and thusly wouldn't be surprising if it
fails or miscompiles files. Has this used to work in the past with say
gcc 3.2.3?

[Cooker] naming policy

2003-07-25 Thread Michael Scherer
Hi.

This may not the right moment to discuss about this, but I think we
should set up a naming policy for the rpm.

To give a simple exemple, the python module.

Some of them are named
foo-python, and the others are named python-bar.

example adns-python, libxslt-python
vs python-xoltar, python-fam

i suggest to stick to python-bar form, in the same way that perl modules
are named.

this can be applied to xmms modules, apache2 modules, ruby extensions
and a lot of software.
Most of them are maintened by the same person ( abiword = mpol , xine
= goetz ), so, there is consistency, but, for the other, there is no
standard

In order to enforce the policy, i have coded a rpmlint extension, and i
have send it to Frederic Lepied 2 month ago, but i was busy and forget
to talk about the subject on the list. He said it would be present for
the next release of rpmlint.

So, i propose the policy as implemented in the rpmlint test.

mainly, xmms plugin in /usr/lib/xmms/ must begin with xmms-, and the
same for python, ruby, perm, php, fortune.
I didn't add all the pssible test, they can be quite easily added in the
future.

I know that there is a lot of exception to be added to rpmlint, in order
to support this test, but we will see this later.

When searching for NFS or SMB servers on the network using the GUI: after

There is not a log of things to do, currently it let the subsystem to print the
error message (pass thorugh) and consider the download to have failed, it will
try with another site if another medium has been configured and includes the
needed package. If no more site has been defined or package could not be
downloaded, urpmi will fail displaying an error message about packages unable to

Maybe the message is not very well, some error were fixed previously about this

I think this dialog could use some improvement. Mainly I am thinking about
reordering the information. On detailed version they should be in this order:

Installing package: name of package
Description of package being installed
Progresbar for package being installed

Overall progress: current package/all packages
Progresbar for overall installation
Time remaining: time remaining

In no details version only the second part for overall progress should be
displayed and above it there should be Mandrake images like now.

When in details mode where there are no add images there is some large empty
area at the top of dialog and that should also be fixed/removed.

 libncurses5-devel, which provides ncurses-devel.

Boy, don't I feel stupid. I should have been able to find that. Yeah, that's
on CD2. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. I'll close this bug as invalid.

Because at ./configure
+ --with-system-et \
+ --with-system-ss \

libkrb51-1.3-1mdk.i586 does not provide
/usr/lib/libcom_err.so.3 or
/usr/lib/libcom_err.so.3.0

What locally installed com_err version are then to be used as this is
the only reason to use those configure options.

Currently libcom_err.so.3 is Required for cvs, evolution, xscreensaver
and others but there is no pkg which provides it.

Well, this is really great. Is *not* supposed to work with mouse or what
? Actually, I was unable to select anything by mouse at all and had to
use space bar only.
The bug report is perfectly valid.

Use urpmi to install packages. Urpmi will handle dependencies, and will install
libncurses5-devel, which provides ncurses-devel.

I confirm, the bug is reproducible.
And, when you press expert and automatic partition, a small window pop up
with a backtrace from a failed script. But I didn't find a log in ~root/drakx
with this backtrace.
