  project has produced something that's mature enough to be included in
  Policy with just small or no modifications (would be foolish to change

You're probably right, but that will mean that I'd have to refrain
from installing munin at all on my systems for the time being.

and formatted on Debian GNU/Linux (Alpha). I connected them to my
x86_64 box, and the driver sees the disks fine, i.e.,

(note the first one is my regular SATA disk). 

I can mount and access the data, and the device mapper even sees the 
logical volumes, but I cannot read the partition table using fdisk.
For any disk I get the following message:

Disk /dev/sdb: 4335 MB, 4335206400 bytes
134 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1019 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8308 * 512 = 4253696 bytes

Disk /dev/sdb doesn't contain a valid partition table

Of course, the first lines vary, but both non-interactive and
interactive fdisk cannot obtain the partition table. Since this is
independent of bus protocol (SCSI and PATA), and all tools I tried
(mount, lvm, cp) accessed the disks just fine, I conclude that this is
not a kernel issue (yes, BSD disk labels are configured in) but a
problem in fdisk. Please reassing if this assumption is incorrect. 

So this bug can be worked around by simply trying to mount /dev/sda1,
.. /dev/sdaN (/dev/hda1, .., /dev/hdaN) but still IMHO fdisk should be
fixed.

What makes you think this is not already possible ?

By setting my name to Christian Périer in poedit preferences, I
ended up with fr.po files with this as Last-Translator (and using the
right ISO-8859-1 encoding because the fr.po file was encoded that way
even if my locale is UTF-8).

PS : please do not pseudo-tag bugs. The BTS has an upstream tag but
it is usually considered to be the maintainer's job to tag bugs, at
least with this tag.

come from Skolelinux needs. So, removing some features probably needs
to get input from Petter and, again, Joey.

But, in general, I agree with Eugeniy analysis. However, we'd better
keep the code commented rather than removing it. It would help in
tracking down issues which could be triggered by that problem.

Bug#309014: Bug not reproduced

I blindly tried to reproduce that bug on a quadri Xeon server running
sarge and was unable to reproduce it.

Note that I have absolutely no understanding of the bug issue. I was
just wandering through RC bugs

Anyway, I think the bug severity is overflated:

   grave
  makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes
  data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the
  accounts of users who use the package.


IMHO, important is more appropriate:

   important
  a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package,
  without rendering it completely unusable to everyone.


The bug, as described, does not make the package unusable, given the
very specific way to trigger it.

It does not cause data loss, but only a DoS

And it does not introduce a security hole allowing access to the
accounts of users.

I hereby propose to lower the severity of this bug.

I just tried to extract some points from a postgis database into a
shape file, and then tried to load this shape file int qgis.  qgis
crashed.

I believe the problem was that the generated shape file didn't have
any features included, only the coordinate points. I generated it
using this command line:

  % pgsql2shp -g center_point pere select center_point from postal_codes \
where postal_code in (select postcode from nuug_member_list \
where ZUsrMedlemstatusNo is not null);
  Preparing table for user query... Done.
  Initializing... Done.

Notice how only one column is selected.  If I select two columns (for
example center_point,postal_code), I avoid the crash problem.

The resulting shape files look like this:

always get it to crash firefox by accessing a site which would like to
use flash(yes I have tried uninstalling the flash plugin). It also
crashes gmplayer a random times when using fastforward in gmplayer

this seems to describe the details of the vulnerability fixed in Wordpress
1.5.1 and it roughly matches the description by io_error:

However, I think that upstream's reaction renders Wordpress unusable for a
stable release. There have been several Wordpress security issues until now
and if they only provide fixed new upstream versions without giving details
the Security team cannot provide support for it. So I'd like suggest to remove
Wordpress from Sarge and support it through volatile.debian.net instead.

I will certainly honor the opinion of the security team (or that of the
maintainer) if they believe this package is one that can't be properly
maintained security-wise; nevertheless, AIUI there is a disappointingly
large number of packages in sarge whose upstreams apply similar policies to
security issues, so I don't know that this particular package should be
treated specially for that reason.

is not considered Release Critical. I think that this will break things
severely for many people and that it therefore should be Release
Critical and fixed as soon as possible. I think that there should be a

I tried to use torsmo with the ROX-Filer pinboard.  Unfortunately this
corrupts pinboard's display so I switched to own window mode.

In own window mode, display gets corrupted as if each refresh draws over
whatever was displayed previously.  At program start display is clean,
showing labels over the background pixmap of the desktop (exactly what I
want).  Then at each refresh display gets more and more corrupted.  Or if
torsmo's window gets temporarily overlapped by another window, background
doesn't get redrawn, only labels and bars get drawn over pixels remaining
from the overlapping window.  This also applies when iconifying and
restoring torsmo's window.

FWIW, I rapidly looked at the sources and found that a call to
XClearArea(region) before calling draw_stuff in main_loop may be useful... 
Remember:  exposure isn't supposed to clear the exposed area, this task is
up to the program.

I disagree.

Messing with /etc/c-client.cf is considered unofficial by upstream, so
won't be supported as more than that by me either.

If you feel that this makes this software unsuited for your use, then
please look for alternatives.

For IMAP and POP3 daemon I strongly recommend using dovecot.

Unfortunately there is no alternative than libc-client as library behind
PHP :-(


And I believe the argument that shadow passwords should make the IETF
recommandations fulfilled is wrong: Shadow passwords has nothing to do
with sending passwords unencrypted on the wire.

This happens with the libxfce4util from unstable
(4.0.6-1), and goes away with the version from

I had to run it through strace to see the error code from write(2).

If libxfcegui4 is linked to libxfce4util, dh_shlibdeps should
make sure it's pulling in the correct version, so I suspect
libxfce4util isn't properly declaring the version requirement.

Please take a look at dh_makeshlibs and the -V option.

Yes, this should be fixes mostly for lvm snapshots.  grub is still buggy
with or without this patch, with a fully working snapshot we just work
around it's braindamage enough to make it actually work.

While this is true and I certainly see your point, the fact remains that
things broke severely when I upgraded. I did not receive any information
about what was going on, and when I tried dpkg-reconfigure I still
wasn't warned that this was going to happen.
And this is what makes this Release Critical. I totally buy your
explanation about the unofficial status of /etc/c-client.cf, but I
should be warned about it when I install the package, or do a
dpkg-reconfigure, perhaps in the form of a notice telling me that there
is important information to read if I'm upgrading and/or want to allow
non-encrypted plaintext logins.
Is this possible? Why or why not?

Messing with /etc/c-client.cf is considered unofficial by upstream, so
won't be supported as more than that by me either.

as smbfs) to which I have no rights. For example: if the shared file has

urlview shows that menu because often there's not only a single URL in
its input; this way the user can choose which of the links he wants to

Do you want to see urlview simply running url_handler.sh without asking 
anything if there's only a single URL?

If this is the request, I'll retitle the bug. 'whishlist for urlview'
it's a bit too generic. :)

functionality.

Thus I ask this bug to be reopened. (After all, it's a whishlist; if
users wish something this means... well, that there is something to be
wished, don't you think so?)

What does the /usr/lib/libldap.so.2 point to on your system when -7 is
installed, and what package provides that file?

I am able to reproduce an error like this on one of my systems, but only
because it seems I have a /usr/lib/libldap.so.2.0.15 file with no associated
package which ends up overriding the symlink to
/usr/lib/libldap_r.so.2.0.130 when ldconfig is run.

If I remove that bogus file and reinstall libldap2, I get a sensible-looking
library.

something todo with the security problem. Later i reviewed the patch
again and the second part seems already applied by a previous upload.

It was included in the patch I submitted by accident.

I'm still wondering why the first part of the patch was not applied in a
previous upload.

Due to the way I've configured my web server I had to change the owner
and group of /etc/cacti/debian.php.  That works fine, but when I
upgrade cacti it changes the owner and group back to the default of
root/www-data.  Please could you make the installation preserve the

On line 29 of /usr/share/cacti/site/include/config.php is the
following statement:

The include statement only produces a warning (rather than an error)
if the file can't be included.  And the @ tells PHP to ignore even

Also the poller produces no warnings or errors at all.  So it's
possible to have the web interface working, but the poller silently
failing.  If that's the case you can be unaware of the problem until
you happen to look at the graphs and notice that they're not working.
That is what just happened to me for what must now be the third or
forth time

The cause of this throwing away of errors is /etc/cron.d/cacti which
contains this:

*/5 * * * * www-data /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php /dev/null 21

So you're deliberately throwing away *all* output, include stderr!
Please could you change that crontab to this:

MAILTO=root
*/5 * * * * www-data /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php /dev/null

Then root will get emailed any errors (they'll be the same as you get
for the web interface as poller.php uses
/usr/share/cacti/site/include/config.php too).

Doing these things might help you with other bugs too (e.g. #308492).

  /usr/share/doc/mozilla - /usr/share/doc/mozilla-browser
 and depends on mozilla-browser which includes
  /usr/share/doc/mozilla-browser/MPL-1.1.txt.gz

This bug was being reported because Policy (and the Sarge RC policy) says
that the full license must be contained in
/usr/share/doc/package/copyright, except for references to the common
licenses in /usr/share/common-licenses/.  I'm not sure if providing
additional license files in /usr/share/doc/package/ is an RC bug or not --
I can't think of any reason why it should be -- but the submitter's concern
has not been addressed, so this bug should remain open.

This bug is caused by the combination with fdisk and kernel-2.4.x.
The reason of it is the output format of /proc/partitions.

The output of /proc/partitions in kernel-2.4.x is like:

The most important difference is the output of name column.

According to the result of strace fdisk -l(with 2.4.x kernel), it
tries
  open(/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc, ...)
that results in ENOENT, finally there is no output.

# duplicated entry, IMHO.

2. Suggestion of solution

IMHO, it is hard to translate ide/host0/ to hda. So, it is
suggested to use major/minor device number alternatively.

Those device numbers are able to be obtained from /proc/partitions.
If open(device) results in ENOENT,
  mknod(/tmp/temporary(ungessable) device_name,
... , major/minor obtained /proc/partitions)
can be done after that and then try open() again.

Needless to say, after all, the temporary device special file
must be unlink()ed.

Uaaah. Bitten by cpp again. (The app-defaults is generated
by the c-Preprecessor, so that it can #if depending on the options
it was compiled with. And when compiled with to new cpp it

 translation table syntax error: Unknown modifier name:   LOG_TRANSLATION
 error message when started...)

Thanks for realizing this. Workaround is removing those LOG_TRANSLATION
lines from /etc/X11/app-defaults/Xfm. Fixed packages is currently beeing
compiled and if my testing show no other new problems hopefully uploaded
today.

The 2.0.15 stuff seems to be from a previous libldap2 installation.
Searching on packages.debian.org reveals that 2.0.15 is installed on

It would be nice if gdm (and/or others as kdm, xdm, wdm...) don't  
stop when a session is launched.
More clearly:
The 7th console shows always gdm, when I connect the first time my  
session goes to the 8th. If I want another session, I come back to the  
7th and login, the 2th session is the 9th console and so on.
Like this I can lock my session (with xlock -mode blank ;-)) and go  
back to the gdm greeter if someone wants to use the machine. In case of  
reboot or halt, gdm should also warn that another session is running.

I'm running the firewall on my PC connected to the router to the internet. So

Current situation is, that shutting done the firewall nothing is blocked.

and it solved the problem, the debian/ directory is now not a dangling
symlink in the dpatch tmp directory anymore, thus the existing patch can
be applied for editing and gets updated when the shell exits.

Well, after replacing the CD-ROM drive for the third
time, the problem no longer occurs.

The weird thing is that I did try with two different
CD-ROM drives and three different CD.

Anyway, it's solved :)

Thiemo Seufer suggests replacing the entire VA_COPY detection code with:

With that page, a binary is created on s390 (cannot verify whether it
is actually runnable), and a working binary is created on i386.

Please indicate whether that fix would be appropriate for you as I
don't want to have a package in Debian that deviates too far from your
work.
