Bug#445728: med-bio: Adding menu for user at suppression.

2007-10-22 Thread Andreas Tille

On Sun, 21 Oct 2007, Charles Plessy wrote:

Here is the output in C locale:

 Removing med-bio ...
Adding menu for user charles of med ...
Execution of /usr/share/menu/cdd-menu generated no output or returned an error.

Ahh, this explains very much. I know this error message since I did some
deeper investigation into things I want to change in cdd menu stuff. So
I even guess that this bug has to go to menu instead of med-bio or cdd-common.
Please call the file /usr/share/menu/cdd-menu as user and you get some
output for a user menu. If you call this as root it does not do any output
but returns just 0 (which is _no_ error). I have no idea why menu expects
some output at all. It should be happyly accept no output if a script
returns 0.

The only thing I'm wondering about is, why on your machine the script is
called as root. This should be not the case because the script is called
by those users that are in the group med (which root should not be).
Or did you added root to the group med? This might be the reason why
the warning (I just hope that this is a warning and menu continues to
work - I did not yet found this out) occured on your machine.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#444655: solr: General update after the debconf review process

2007-10-22 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning
of a review
action on debconf templates for solr.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Saturday, September 15, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

 Hi,

Attempting to install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 in sid leads to the following:

 apt-get install -s sylpheed-claws-gtk2
 Reading package lists...
 Building dependency tree...
 Reading state information...
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
 that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   sylpheed-claws-gtk2: Depends: claws-mail (= 3.0.2-1) but it is not
 going to be installed
Depends: claws-mail ( 3.0.2-1.1~) but it is not
 going to be installed
 E: Broken packages

 See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monodevelop/+bug/155341

Forcing the conflict with -f, or versioning the conflict in the source
 package with:

 sylpheed-claws-gtk2 ( ${source:Version})

solves the problem (of course the transitional package needs to be
 manually removed).

According to the policy manual ([1], para 7.5.2), your control file seems
correct and should lead to claws-mail being installed instead of
 sylpheed-claws-gtk2.

Could this be a bug with apt?

  Could be, otherwise I don't know why the range = 3.0.2-1 3.0.2-1.1~
doesn't resolve to the point 3.0.2-1.

Anyway I think the bug is somewhat useful, because users should not
install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 anymore and they get informed what they should
install instead ;-)

If I check out the repos registered by mr and one of them declared

Bug#447556: wml: logos are completely broken - files are missing

2007-10-22 Thread Narayanan R S

Package: wml
Version: 2.0.11-1
Severity: important

wml::std::logo is totally broken as the logo files are missing. They
should be present in /usr/lib/wml/data/logos/ but the logos directory is
missing. Once you create the logos directory and put in the logo-*.info
and logo-*.{gif|png} files things work fine. The original package is
missing these files (and they are available from the source in the
wml_misc directory). This probably took place between 2.0.8 and 2.0.11
when the logo locations was moved from .../aux/ to .../data/logos.

This bug renders the entire wml::std::logo macro/package unusable.

I was away last week, and ran out of time before I left to update the
debian packaging. But I'm back now and hoping to get new debian
 packages uploaded this week.

Two weeks later, are there any news?

If you need sponsor for the upload, that can be arranged too.

One other thing to add... I went back and looked at the maildir

prior to your patch, is conformant to the spec.

Yes, it was.

Ordinarily it would seem like there is a race here, but I wonder
if some of the other rules for access make it a non-issue here.
I haven't had the chance to look at it in detail yet though.

There was certainly a race condition there. I don't have the time to
check this now though, so it's best if you just revert the patch...

Btw: I did test offlineimap with the patch and it worked fine for
me. Now it also spinloops. I have no idea what's going on.

I'm not quite sure if it's really a bug, apt is 'Build-Essential:

It might be Build-Essential: yes, but it's not a dependency of the

Bug#447562: nfs-common: Locks are only released after delay when using IP alias or secondary IP

2007-10-22 Thread Mark Hunting
Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.0.10-6+etch.1
Severity: normal

I try to setup an NFS server in a Heartbeat configuration. The normal setup for
this is to have an IP alias or secondary IP
to which the NFS clients connect. Everything works, but when a client releases
a file lock, the other client(s) (waiting for
the lock to come free) is/are not notified. After 30 seconds the other client
ask the server again about the lock, and it is
granted the lock. (Max) 30 seconds to late, that is.

The fact that I use Heartbeat is not important here, this behaviour is
perfectly reproducible on a simple (single) NFS
server when the clients connect to an IP alias or secondary IP adress.

Clients that connect to a primary IP address ARE always notified about released
file locks. Also if the client that releases
the lock is connected to the IP alias or secondary IP.

I tested file locking with C fcntl and Perl flock. Both showed the behaviour
described.

I agree it's anormal, I don't think we will rename the package now. On

So probably with Gnome 3.0 in a few years ;)
Renaming it now would be insane with all the rdeps, right :)

2007-10-22 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Hi !

I have just upgraded and get the same problem on an ATI 7500:

QW [Radeon 7500]

I have two Dell E176FP with absolutely the same configuration (reset
to factory default and checked by hand) and the right one is far more
washed out.

I think the catalystic line in my crontab is

The problem here is the same as in 418440. Tiger does not understand
cron lines with the @ in front of them (@daily, @weekly...). I have to
adjust the script to make it understand them.

It's doable, simply keep a dummy package around and with some time, the
shlibs will make all deps move to the new name, but it's just
superfluous efforts for a very small gain (pleasing lintian).

Well, I have 1280x1024, but still...

I would be grateful for your opinion on two things -

 1. whether it fixes this bug

The dialog first appears with the progress bar and then grows to
full size after fecthing options from the scanner, but it only grows
downwards. Now, it remains fully visible on screen, but it's still
kinda weird. Have you considered not creating a dialog until after
the options have been fetched, so that you can centre the resulting
window?

 2. whether the scan dialog is still intuitive

Yes, I think it's almost more intuitive now.

 Thanks

I have you to thank!

I still need a progress bar to indicate that the app is waiting for
the options to be returned by SANE. But, the options can also change
depending on source, mode device.

Now we are seeing basically the same behaviour, I can work on
centering the dialog after the options have been returned.

Thanks for the feedback

Please consider adding an option to disable that check.

When building the new package, where would the code to support this

/usr/uclibc-mipsel/lib

for
libc-uclibc-mipsel-cross_2.6.1-6_all.deb

Also note:
$ dpkg-architecture -auclibc-mipsel

As dpkg-cross merges back into dpkg, dpkg-cross will increasingly rely
on dpkg code. Just disabling the check isn't going to be sufficient. I
am unsure how much dpkg-cross 2.x will be able to support architectures
that are not already supported in dpkg-architecture and adding code to
dpkg-cross that cannot be supported by dpkg is futile as dpkg-cross
is expected to be removed before Lenny is released.

Hi,

I get the same error after activating the rewrite.load module in apache2 (make

The quick an perhaps dirty solution was to remark the

as described in the bugreport.

On a fresh debian install, this modules in not enabled inside apache2, so

Thanks for your report and patch!

I don't know much about chinese character encodings, but your points

introduce any regressions.

2007-10-22 Thread Paul Sundvall

Package: cpufrequtils
Version: 002-5
Severity: normal

I have an Intel Q6600. The cpufrequtils package uses the file
/etc/init.d/cpufrequtils. I had to change first non-comment lines to
ENABLE=true
GOVERNOR=ondemand
MAX_SPEED=240
MIN_SPEED=160
to get it to work properly. Note that frequencies are in kHz, not in
MHz. The default speeds were both 0.
In the top of the file, a proposed setting is presented which indicates
that
the values should be in MHz.
I do not know where and if this is an error, but I would have been a bit
happier if frequency scaling had worked right out of the box.

gnutls_record_recv: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
 --- ABOR

Fatal error: gnutls_record_recv: A TLS packet with unexpected length was
received.

I doesn't say when this happens. If this is at the point of the server
termination of the connection then it's not that critical.
It is common for several servers to non-properly terminate the TLS connection
using TCP FIN. This is against the TLS specs but it is common to occur.

There is no way for gnutls to fix this, since if we silent this error we will
be vulnerable to premature termination attacks.

Bug#447568: gnomebaker: crashes on startup if there are long fields in /etc/fstab

2007-10-22 Thread Alain Kalker
Package: gnomebaker
Version: 0.6.2-2
Severity: normal

When /etc/fstab contains long fields for the device node and/or
mountpoint, gnomebaker crashes on startup. I have traced the problem to
function devices_add_device() in the file src/devices.c, Line 114-115:

gchar node[64], mount[64];
if(sscanf(*line, %s\t%s, node, mount) == 2)
...

Fields longer than 63 characters cause data corruption by sscanf. The
field lengths are definitely too small, especially when using
/dev/disk/by-id/* device nodes with full device serial numbers.

hibernates. It just hangs after displaying Snapshotting system state, or
however is called.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400.

I will try to downgrade back to the previous version and see if the I get back
the hibernate functionality.

If there are any supplemental information you might need, please ask.

Bug#445779: mousewheel not working ?

2007-10-22 Thread Nicolas STRANSKY
I wonder if this is related, but since this new rdesktop version
(1.5.0-2+cvs20071006), the mousewheel is not working anymore in
rdesktop. It works fine in other applications, though.

Bug#366290: gnome-power-manager: Fails to display notification icon when launched

Thanks for that command line snippet. IMO this is a quite nasty bug.
Do I understand correctly that you think re-setting this once is enough
to work around this bug? This doesn't seem to be the case here:

penelope[~]$ pgrep -f gnome-power-manager
3263
penelope[~]$ # no icon
penelope[~]$ cat .gconf/apps/gnome-power-manager/%gconf.xml
?xml version=1.0?

ii gnome-power-manager 2.14.3-3+b1frontend for gnome-powermanager
penelope[~]$ cat /etc/debian_version
4.0

Given this, what's supposed to be the best workaround for this bug?
Unless there's a one-shot workaround, I *really* doubt this issue
qualifies as minor. When there's no icon, *major* features of
gnome-power-manager are *inaccessible*. (The dbus interface doesn't
count.)

We don't unmetafy strings passed down to glob qualifier functions.
This appears to be correct in some cases (where the name is passed into
shell code for further processing), so it seems we need to do this within
qualnonemptydir(). (I left the first hunk in as it's a little neater
but it has no effect.)

Thanks - I'll look into this. There's of course a tradeoff between this
functionality and giving write access to a part of /etc.

/etc should not be writable by www-data, we should use /var/lib for that.

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

This is due to the changes in the underlying tools, gnustep-make and
libgnustep-base-dev which are in a transition currently. The package in our
(Debian Games Team's) repo fixes these issues and is addapted to the new tools,
but I needed to do a build in sid before requesting for an upload.

I'll do that tonight and ask for the upload. Lucas, I guess you just voluneered
to do the upload :-D .

Bug#447574: `setfont' against the ACM quoted commentary character

2007-10-22 Thread Tatiana Kronberg
Package: console-data
Version: 1.03-1
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Some ACM files of `console-data' are written in the quoted character
format, using single characters as translation stuff. This
representation is incompatible with the specification defined in [1]:

--cut: mapscrn(1)--
Values in the file may be specified in one of several formats:
   [...]
   5. Character: Single character enclosed in single quotes. (And the
binary value is used.) Note that blank, comma, tab character and '#'
cannot be specified with this format.
--cut: mapscrn(1)--

It breaks when `setfont -m' is invoked on one of such files, e. g.:

$ setfont koi8b-8x16 -m koi8-r -u koi8-r
Error parsing symbolic map from `/usr/share/consoletrans/koi8-r.acm.gz', line 5

The given question will be settled if to set `U+0023' instead of `#'
in the all problem files:

bulgarian-mic.acm
cp1251.acm
cp866.acm
koi8-r.acm
MacCyrillic.acm

It's interesting that `setfont -m' is able to parse comma character
contrary to mapscrn(1). Blank and tab characters weren't put in
the files mentioned above.

References

1. mapscrn(1), as of `kbd' version `1.12-19'.

Bug#447233: evolution-data-server: mime words in email header not decoded

2007-10-22 Thread darren
Sorry to have submitted the wrong formatted patch.
is new upload (1.12.1-1) available in the source?
I searched http://packages.debian.org/ ,latest version is still 1.12.0-1

I send this 1.12.0-1 patch ,it has worked for me for about 2 weeks and found
no problem.

I will test my patch again as soon as 1.12.1-1 is seen in my debian mirror.

cheers,
Darren.

2007/10/22, Øystein Gisnås [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Thanks for your report and patch!

I don't know much about chinese character encodings, but your points
sounds reasonable to me, and also in sync with others (see
 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446783 for example).

I think the severity you set was a bit too high, so I lowered that,
but will include a patch in the upcoming upload. I had to manually
apply the patch, since you haven't used the diff -u format. For next
time - please produce the patch with diff -u to make it easier for
 me.

Maybe you can send an email to me with the non-conforming so that I
can verify the patch? I'd also appreciate if you could test the new
upload (1.12.1-1) to make sure it fixes the problem and doesn't
 introduce any regressions.

 Thanks,
 Øystein

Hi Frank,

thanks for the report. -lpoppler is used because pkg-config tells
kdegraphic's configure to do so:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ pkg-config --libs poppler-qt = 0.3.1
- -lpoppler-qt -lpoppler

I'm reassigning this bug to libpoppler-qt-dev, whose maintainer should
decide if we have a bug or feature here.

Bug#276948: package 'vncserver' should be removed from amd64

2007-10-22 Thread Steve Langasek
On Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:45:15PM +0200, Ola Lundqvist wrote:
Not working is a problem, of course, and is what the cited bug report
  talks about.

Yes that is a problem, on all amd64 arches.

I guess you mean all 64-bit arches? That encompasses alpha and ia64 as
well.

As a first step, let's fix the severity of the bug. This should have been
RC all along - amd64 is not our only 64-bit architecture, so if vncserver is
not 64-bit-clean, that needs to be dealt with (one way or another) instead
of leaving broken binaries in the archive.

I agree to some extent, but I'm not fully sure that it should be grave.
I classified it as important as the problem is only seen on 64 bit arches.

For several release cycles, the release team has treated the presence of any
unusable binary package in the archive as a release-critical bug. If a
package is unsupported on a given architecture, it should be a simple matter
to remove the binary from the archive (by fixing the package to not build
it), rather than letting users mirror and install a package that won't work.

Furthermore, if we leave per-arch-broken binary packages around in the
archive, how do we know for sure that other packages aren't also broken as a
result of depending on them?

The same package(s) is(are) included in the stable/etch release. Is it
possible to remove a package after the release?

Yes, though of course fixing the package would be far preferable.

I actually think that we should simply remove build for amd64 for this
package. vnc4 is available. The only problem there is that some development
libraries will not be available in this case.

But removing the entire package is not good at this point (becuase of the
 development packages).

So what do you think it the best solution?
 * Remove amd64 build.
 * Remove entire package (it will require some work on vnc4 package to build
   the development libraries).
 * Fix the problem (I need a big patch for that) and I do not think it is
worth the effort. I do not have access to amd64 machine so I can not
   test it either.
 * Keep as is

What about removing just the *server* package on the 64-bit archs, if that's
the bit that's broken? I think the client is ok, I believe I've used it
from 64-bit systems. So just changing debian/rules to stop building
vncserver on the 64-bit archs should fix this bug.

Bug#439389: Changes in the xine-lib package require changes in xine-frontends

frontend packages (this means a package that you maintain) is expected to

If I understand correctly, we should change:

For packages providing an X11-based frontend, yes. You might consider
keeping the Recommends: libxine1-ffmpeg.

Bug#416927: Suggested fix

2007-10-22 Thread Roderich Schupp
Hi,

I think I know what's going on wrt run_init:

- run_init uses getopt() to parse its parameters
- getopt() by default reorders argv to move any options to the front
  (cf.
http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Using-Getopt.html#index-getopt-3027)
- hence any kernel boot parameter that starts with - (e.g. upstart's
--debug)
is assumed to be a parameter for run_init
- but run_init only knwos abut -c and exits

Two possible ways for fixing this are

(1) call as getopt(..., +c:) to explicitly prevent it from reordering argv

(2) execute run_init with the kernel boot parameters after --, e.g.

  exec TMPL_VAR NAME=auxDir/run_init /mnt $init -- $@

Cheers, Roderich

Bug#447579: kdissert: new upstream version

2007-10-22 Thread Steffen Moeller
Package: kdissert
Version: 1.0.6.c-2
Severity: normal

There is a new upstream version on
http://freehackers.org/~tnagy/kdissert/kdissert-1.0.7.tar.bz2

Although there is a new development named Semantic around the corner,
I still think that it would be worthwhile to bring kdissert up to the
latest level.

Cheers,

Bug#438137: gnutls

I have done these three tests (and a fourth against a gnutls-serv with

I have no clue what this could be. I only posses a Sony-Ericsson W810 which
connects to my test gnutls server just fine, so I cannot reproduce or test
it. If you could find a combination of ciphers, protocols, macs that work

Bug#400968: Can't reproduce at the moment

2007-10-22 Thread Sam Morris
This will be quite tricky to reproduce as it depends on the versions of
update-manager that are installed and also, I guess, the state of the
package lists at the time. Since this doesn't happen any more, I'll
close the bug, and file a new one if update-manager starts requesting
odd actions in the future.

dpkg-cross: libc6_2.6.1-6_mipsel.deb has wrong architecture (mipsel)
   dpkg-cross: conversion of libc6_2.6.1-6_mipsel.deb failed.

Please consider adding an option to disable that check.

We don't need to disable this check if the correct dpkg foo-table
entries are added for the desired arch, right?

So once dpkg-architecture et al. all behave as planned, all that
remains is to have a 'proper' way to extend those tables for any
'unofficial' archs that people require.

I'm assuming that adding uclibc-foo like I described here:
 http://wiki.debian.org/EmDebian/UclibcToolchainBootstrap
is the right way to do it.

Right now I think that is more like the 'only' way to do it.
It is not the 'right' way to do it because any local additions
will get stomped by the next dpkg update that happens on the
system, and those files are mostly intended to list the
'official' arch definitions. Once we start talking about
uclibc permutations they quickly become far too numerous to
feasibly make them all 'official' from the outset (think mmu
or no-mmu variants, and there are many other desirable but
mutually incompatible configurations that people will want
to use).

So I think what we need here is for dpkg tools to also read
from any foo-table.* files that exist in /usr/share/dpkg/.
Then you can add these custom arch definitions in ostable.myarch
etc. where they won't get stomped by dpkg updates, and enable
them to be provided by a separate package that 'defines' the
new arch that is desired in a fairly well defined way.

It shouldn't be too hard to add support for this to dpkg, and
it has been discussed on #emdebian to a reasonable state of
consensus among the participants. If no-one else has a better
suggestion, and Neil and the dpkg maintainers like it, I think
this is the way we should go on this.

CC'ing debian-embedded so that others working on uclibc can contribute
ideas on how dpkg and dpkg-cross can support unknown and new
  architectures.
I'm not sure what way of replying would be appropriate now. Please
tell me so you won't get everything three times.

Probably best to discuss it to conclusion on the debian-embedded
list, but I've cc'd the bug report on this one, because its the
best solution I'm aware of that has been discussed to date.

Cheers,
Ron

Bug#447581: openssh-server: sshd ignores /etc/nologin when logging in with keys

2007-10-22 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:4.3p2-9
Severity: important

On Etch, I can login on a machine with /etc/nologin existing if I use
ssh keys. On Sarge I get the message from /etc/nologin and the
connection is closed immediately which means that I can not login as
expected.

If I try to login using password, I can't login, but the behaviour is
someway strange: 3x message from /etc/nologin and 6x password prompt
although /etc/login is set and recognized. OTOH it is the same way of
strange on Sarge, too.

Main problem (and subject of this bug report) is that you still can
login with ssh keys if /etc/nologin is present:

Notes about the examples: snitch and krum are Etch amd64 hosts, aragog
is an Etch i386 host, malfoy is Sarge i386. krum, aragog and malfoy
have a /etc/nologin. By default I have keys loaded into ssh-agent for
logging in on malfoy and krum. -o 'PubkeyAuthentication no' disables
this.)

Bug#385332: Improved in 2.2

Hi,

the situation of this bug seems to have improved a bit in OOo 2.2. Some
settings seem to be used correctly in OOo now, but hinting remains far
inferior to that obtained in other applications.

In the attached screenshot, the upper menu is from OOo, and the lower
one from Evolution. The difference is still quite visible and affects
readability.

Bug#447582: openoffice.org-core: Some latin characters displayed incorrectly

2007-10-22 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: openoffice.org-core
Version: 2.2.1-9
Severity: important

Hi,

when the ttf-bitstream-vera package is installed, OpenOffice.org
displays some latin characters incorrectly. This is the case even in the
menus. When exporting the file to a PDF document, the PDF is affected as
well.

For example, ç is replaced by Á, and è is replaced by Ë. As these
characters are very common in French, this makes OOo unusable for any
serious work in this language.

When manually selecting another font (like DejaVu Sans) or removing the
ttf-bitstream-vera package, these characters are displayed correctly.

Other applications (including OOo 2.0.4 from stable) are not affected.
