Bug#445728: med-bio: Adding menu for user at suppression.
On Sun, 21 Oct 2007, Charles Plessy wrote: Here is the output in C locale: Removing med-bio ... Adding menu for user charles of med ... Execution of /usr/share/menu/cdd-menu generated no output or returned an error. Ahh, this explains very much. I know this error message since I did some deeper investigation into things I want to change in cdd menu stuff. So I even guess that this bug has to go to menu instead of med-bio or cdd-common. Please call the file /usr/share/menu/cdd-menu as user and you get some output for a user menu. If you call this as root it does not do any output but returns just 0 (which is _no_ error). I have no idea why menu expects some output at all. It should be happyly accept no output if a script returns 0. The only thing I'm wondering about is, why on your machine the script is called as root. This should be not the case because the script is called by those users that are in the group med (which root should not be). Or did you added root to the group med? This might be the reason why the warning (I just hope that this is a warning and menu continues to work - I did not yet found this out) occured on your machine. Bug#444655: solr: General update after the debconf review process
Dear Debian maintainer, On Saturday, September 15, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a review action on debconf templates for solr. Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation updates. Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts. Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your development tree as long as they were reported. The attached tarball contains: - debian/changelog with the list of changes - debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions - debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s) - debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones) As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here, preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting errors have been corrected. The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s). Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control file(s) of your package as of Saturday, September 15, 2007. If your package was updated in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not modified such files while the review process was running, remember..:-) It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes. Please notify me of your intents with regards to this. There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to fix this. -- patch.tar.gz Description: Binary data --- solr.old/debian/solr-common.templates 2007-09-14 08:56:34.967674181 +0200 +++ solr/debian/solr-common.templates 2007-09-15 10:57:15.088922852 +0200 @@ -1,8 +1,9 @@ Template: solr/purgeindexfiles Type: boolean Default: false -_Description: Remove index files? - The script is about to remove the data directory /var/lib/solr. - If you think you need Solr's index files later, the data - should be kept. - +_Description: Remove Solr index files? + The Solr data directory (/var/lib/solr) may be removed while purging the + package. + . + You should not choose this option if you intend to re-use Solr's index + files later. --- solr.old/debian/control 2007-09-14 08:56:34.967674181 +0200 +++ solr/debian/control 2007-09-15 10:55:41.593717850 +0200 @@ -28,14 +28,14 @@ liblucene2-java (= 2.2), libxpp3-java Recommends: solr-tomcat5.5 (= ${binary:Version}) | solr-jetty (= ${binary:Version}) -Description: enterprise search server based on Lucene (common files) +Description: enterprise search server based on Lucene - common files Solr is an open source enterprise search server based on the Lucene Java search library, with XML/HTTP and JSON APIs, hit highlighting, faceted search, caching, replication, and a web administration interface. Bug#447496: Trying to install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 in sid leads to unresolvable conflict

Building dependency tree... Reading state information... Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: sylpheed-claws-gtk2: Depends: claws-mail (= 3.0.2-1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: claws-mail ( 3.0.2-1.1~) but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monodevelop/+bug/155341 Forcing the conflict with -f, or versioning the conflict in the source package with: sylpheed-claws-gtk2 ( ${source:Version}) solves the problem (of course the transitional package needs to be manually removed). According to the policy manual ([1], para 7.5.2), your control file seems correct and should lead to claws-mail being installed instead of sylpheed-claws-gtk2. Could this be a bug with apt? Could be, otherwise I don't know why the range = 3.0.2-1 3.0.2-1.1~ doesn't resolve to the point 3.0.2-1. Anyway I think the bug is somewhat useful, because users should not install sylpheed-claws-gtk2 anymore and they get informed what they should install instead ;-) regards, -- Ricardo Mones http://people.debian.org/~mones «You are magnetic in your bearing.» signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#447546: libgnomeui-0: Strange package name
On Mon, Oct 22, 2007, Michael Biebl wrote: according to lintian, the binary package should follow the soname and be libgnomeui-2-0. Another possible name would be libgnomeui2-0, which would be more in line with the current practice of naming gnome libs. But libgnomeui-0 is definitely weird. Would you consider a rename or provide reasons why the current naming was chosen? I agree it's anormal, I don't think we will rename the package now. Bug#447297: d-shlibs: relies on apt but doesn't depend on it
On Mon, Oct 22, 2007 at 08:04:01 +0900, Junichi Uekawa wrote: Hi, d-shlibmove and d-devlibdeps rely on apt, but d-shlibs doesn't depend on it. I believe that this is causing the build failures of e.g. graphviz [0] and libgtkok [1] on hppa. I'm not quite sure if it's really a bug, apt is 'Build-Essential: yes'. Anyone care to comment on why hppa seems to lack apt from the chroot for some reason ? It might be Build-Essential: yes, but it's not a dependency of the build-essential package, and in any case this is irrelevant, because the only packages you don't need to add Depends on are the Essential: yes packages. Cheers, Julien

Bug#447562: nfs-common: Locks are only released after delay when using IP alias or secondary IP
Package: nfs-common Version: 1:1.0.10-6+etch.1 Severity: normal I try to setup an NFS server in a Heartbeat configuration. The normal setup for this is to have an IP alias or secondary IP to which the NFS clients connect. Everything works, but when a client releases a file lock, the other client(s) (waiting for the lock to come free) is/are not notified. After 30 seconds the other client ask the server again about the lock, and it is granted the lock. (Max) 30 seconds to late, that is. The fact that I use Heartbeat is not important here, this behaviour is perfectly reproducible on a simple (single) NFS server when the clients connect to an IP alias or secondary IP adress. Clients that connect to a primary IP address ARE always notified about released file locks. Also if the client that releases the lock is connected to the IP alias or secondary IP. I tested file locking with C fcntl and Perl flock. Both showed the behaviour described. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-5-vserver-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages nfs-common depends on: ii adduser 3.102 Add and remove users and groups ii libc62.3.6.ds1-13etch2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcomer 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.11.14+dfsg-2 common error description library ii libevent 1.1a-1 An asynchronous event notification ii libgssap 0.10-4 A mechanism-switch gssapi library ii libkrb53 1.4.4-7etch2MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libnfsid 0.18-0 An nfs idmapping library ii librpcse 0.14-2 allows secure rpc communication us ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-13 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii lsb-base 3.1-23.2etch1 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii netbase 4.29Basic TCP/IP networking system ii portmap 5-26The RPC portmapper ii ucf 2.0020 Update Configuration File: preserv nfs-common recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I would be grateful for your opinion on two things - 1. whether it fixes this bug The dialog first appears with the progress bar and then grows to full size after fecthing options from the scanner, but it only grows downwards. Now, it remains fully visible on screen, but it's still kinda weird. Have you considered not creating a dialog until after the options have been fetched, so that you can centre the resulting window? 2. whether the scan dialog is still intuitive Yes, I think it's almost more intuitive now. Bug#447233: evolution-data-server: mime words in email header not decoded
Thanks for your report and patch! I don't know much about chinese character encodings, but your points sounds reasonable to me, and also in sync with others (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446783 for example). I think the severity you set was a bit too high, so I lowered that, but will include a patch in the upcoming upload. I had to manually apply the patch, since you haven't used the diff -u format. For next time - please produce the patch with diff -u to make it easier for me. Maybe you can send an email to me with the non-conforming so that I can verify the patch? I'd also appreciate if you could test the new upload (1.12.1-1) to make sure it fixes the problem and doesn't introduce any regressions. Thanks, Øystein

Bug#406190: Xinetd does not provide inet-superserver

Bug#447569: cpufrequtils: Default frequency interval does not work for me + example settings do not work either
Package: cpufrequtils Version: 002-5 Severity: normal I have an Intel Q6600. The cpufrequtils package uses the file /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils. I had to change first non-comment lines to ENABLE=true GOVERNOR=ondemand MAX_SPEED=240 MIN_SPEED=160 to get it to work properly. Note that frequencies are in kHz, not in MHz. The default speeds were both 0. In the top of the file, a proposed setting is presented which indicates that the values should be in MHz. I do not know where and if this is an error, but I would have been a bit happier if frequency scaling had worked right out of the box. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=sv_SE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages cpufrequtils depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.14 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.6.1-1GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcpufreq0 002-5 shared library to deal with the cp ii lsb-base 3.1-24 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip cpufrequtils recommends no packages. -- debconf information: cpufrequtils/enable: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#434357: RFA: xinetd -- replacement for inetd with many enhancements
Hi! What's the status on the adoption of xinetd? Magnus, Franz, did you make any progress? I'm not interested in adopting it myself, but would be willing to do an NMU for the inet-superserver bug (and maybe the typo ones too). Could you all let me know whether such an NMU would be ok or that a new version is right around the corner? I could sponsor packages for the new maintainer(s) of xinetd if required, let me know. Bug#327625: gnutls
gnutls_record_recv: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received. --- ABOR Closing aborted data socket Closing control socket Fatal error: gnutls_record_recv: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received. I doesn't say when this happens. If this is at the point of the server termination of the connection then it's not that critical. It is common for several servers to non-properly terminate the TLS connection using TCP FIN. This is against the TLS specs but it is common to occur. There is no way for gnutls to fix this, since if we silent this error we will be vulnerable to premature termination attacks. regards, Nikos -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#447574: `setfont' against the ACM quoted commentary character
Package: console-data Version: 1.03-1 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Some ACM files of `console-data' are written in the quoted character format, using single characters as translation stuff. Sorry to have submitted the wrong formatted patch. is new upload (1.12.1-1) available in the source? I searched http://packages.debian.org/ ,latest version is still 1.12.0-1 I send this 1.12.0-1 patch ,it has worked for me for about 2 weeks and found no problem. I will test my patch again as soon as 1.12.1-1 is seen in my debian mirror. cheers, Darren. 2007/10/22, Øystein Gisnås [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Thanks for your report and patch! Bug#276948: package 'vncserver' should be removed from amd64
On Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:45:15PM +0200, Ola Lundqvist wrote: Not working is a problem, of course, and is what the cited bug report talks about. Yes that is a problem, on all amd64 arches. I guess you mean all 64-bit arches? That encompasses alpha and ia64 as well. As a first step, let's fix the severity of the bug. This should have been RC all along - amd64 is not our only 64-bit architecture, so if vncserver is not 64-bit-clean, that needs to be dealt with (one way or another) instead of leaving broken binaries in the archive. I agree to some extent, but I'm not fully sure that it should be grave. I classified it as important as the problem is only seen on 64 bit arches. For several release cycles, the release team has treated the presence of any unusable binary package in the archive as a release-critical bug. If a package is unsupported on a given architecture, it should be a simple matter to remove the binary from the archive (by fixing the package to not build it), rather than letting users mirror and install a package that won't work. Furthermore, if we leave per-arch-broken binary packages around in the archive, how do we know for sure that other packages aren't also broken as a result of depending on them? The same package(s) is(are) included in the stable/etch release. Is it possible to remove a package after the release? Yes, though of course fixing the package would be far preferable. I actually think that we should simply remove build for amd64 for this package. vnc4 is available. The only problem there is that some development libraries will not be available in this case. But removing the entire package is not good at this point (becuase of the development packages). So what do you think it the best solution? * Remove amd64 build. * Remove entire package (it will require some work on vnc4 package to build the development libraries). * Fix the problem (I need a big patch for that) and I do not think it is worth the effort. I do not have access to amd64 machine so I can not test it either. * Keep as is What about removing just the *server* package on the 64-bit archs, if that's the bit that's broken? I think the client is ok, I believe I've used it from 64-bit systems. So just changing debian/rules to stop building vncserver on the 64-bit archs should fix this bug. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. These two packages are not depended on by other packages from xine-lib. Instead, the frontend packages (this means a package that you maintain) is expected to depend on either libxine1-x or libxine1-console, depending on if your frontend is X-based or text-only/framebuffer-based. Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: If I understand correctly, we should change: Depends: ${shlibs:Depends} Recommends: libxine1-ffmpeg into: Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, libxine1-x Is that correct? Bug#416927: Suggested fix
Hi, I think I know what's going on wrt run_init: - run_init uses getopt() to parse its parameters - getopt() by default reorders argv to move any options to the front (cf. http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Using-Getopt.html#index-getopt-3027) - hence any kernel boot parameter that starts with - (e.g. upstart's --debug) is assumed to be a parameter for run_init - but run_init only knwos abut -c and exits Two possible ways for fixing this are (1) call as getopt(..., +c:) to explicitly prevent it from reordering argv (2) execute run_init with the kernel boot parameters after --, e.g. exec TMPL_VAR NAME=auxDir/run_init /mnt $init -- $@ Cheers, Roderich -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#447427: dpkg-cross: please support wrong architecture
On Mon, Oct 22, 2007 at 10:45:39AM +0200, Jonas Meyer wrote: On 10/22/07, Neil Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Sun, 21 Oct 2007 08:37:38 +0200 Jonas Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: To create toolchains that have a new debian name than an already existing architecture it'd be useful if something like this worked: dpkg-cross -a uclibc-mipsel -i libc6_2.6.1-6_mipsel.deb dpkg-cross: libc6_2.6.1-6_mipsel.deb has wrong architecture (mipsel) dpkg-cross: conversion of libc6_2.6.1-6_mipsel.deb failed. Please consider adding an option to disable that check. We don't need to disable this check if the correct dpkg foo-table entries are added for the desired arch, right? So once dpkg-architecture et al. all behave as planned, all that remains is to have a 'proper' way to extend those tables for any 'unofficial' archs that people require. I'm assuming that adding uclibc-foo like I described here: http://wiki.debian.org/EmDebian/UclibcToolchainBootstrap is the right way to do it. Right now I think that is more like the 'only' way to do it. It is not the 'right' way to do it because any local additions will get stomped by the next dpkg update that happens on the system, and those files are mostly intended to list the 'official' arch definitions. Once we start talking about uclibc permutations they quickly become far too numerous to feasibly make them all 'official' from the outset (think mmu or no-mmu variants, and there are many other desirable but mutually incompatible configurations that people will want to use). So I think what we need here is for dpkg tools to also read from any foo-table.* files that exist in /usr/share/dpkg/. Then you can add these custom arch definitions in ostable.myarch etc. where they won't get stomped by dpkg updates, and enable them to be provided by a separate package that 'defines' the new arch that is desired in a fairly well defined way. It shouldn't be too hard to add support for this to dpkg, and it has been discussed on #emdebian to a reasonable state of consensus among the participants. If no-one else has a better suggestion, and Neil and the dpkg maintainers like it, I think this is the way we should go on this. CC'ing debian-embedded so that others working on uclibc can contribute ideas on how dpkg and dpkg-cross can support unknown and new architectures. I'm not sure what way of replying would be appropriate now. Please tell me so you won't get everything three times. Probably best to discuss it to conclusion on the debian-embedded list, but I've cc'd the bug report on this one, because its the best solution I'm aware of that has been discussed to date. Bug#447582: openoffice.org-core: Some latin characters displayed incorrectly
Package: openoffice.org-core Version: 2.2.1-9 Severity: important Hi, when the ttf-bitstream-vera package is installed, OpenOffice.org displays some latin characters incorrectly. This is the case even in the menus. When exporting the file to a PDF document, the PDF is affected as well. For example, ç is replaced by Á, and è is replaced by Ë. As these characters are very common in French, this makes OOo unusable for any serious work in this language. When manually selecting another font (like DejaVu Sans) or removing the ttf-bitstream-vera package, these characters are displayed correctly. Other applications (including OOo 2.0.4 from stable) are not affected. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages openoffice.org-core depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.14 Debian configuration management sy ii fontconfig 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libc6 2.6.1-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.17.0-1 Multi-protocol file transfer libra ii libdb4.54.5.20-9 Berkeley v4.5 Database Libraries [ ii libexpat1 1.95.8-4 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.2.2-3GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.14.2-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgstreamer-plugins-ba 0.10.14-4GStreamer libraries from the base ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.14-2Core GStreamer libraries and eleme ii libgtk2.0-0 2.12.0-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libhunspell-1.1-0 1.1.9-1 spell checker and morphological an ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libicu363.6-6International Components for Unico ii libjpeg62 6b-14The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libldap22.1.30.dfsg-13.5 OpenLDAP libraries ii libneon25 0.25.5.dfsg-6An HTTP and WebDAV client library ii libnspr4-0d 4.6.7-1 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3-0d 3.11.7-1 Network Security Service libraries ii libpam0g0.99.7.1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-0 1.18.2-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libportaudio2 19+svn20070125-1 Portable audio I/O - shared librar ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libsndfile1 1.0.17-4 Library for reading/writing audio ii libstartup-notification 0.9-1library for program launch feedbac ii libstdc++6 4.2.2-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libstlport4.6c2 4.6.2-3 STLport C++ class library ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxaw7 2:1.0.4-1X11 Athena Widget library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 2:1.1.3-1X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.30.dfsg-2GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.2-1X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.4-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxslt1.1 1.1.22-1 XSLT processing library - runtime ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii openoffice.org-common 2.2.1-9 OpenOffice.org office suite archit ii ttf-opensymbol 2.2.1-9 The OpenSymbol TrueType font ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-6 compression library - runtime Versions of packages openoffice.org-core recommends: ii nfs-common1:1.1.1~git-20070929-1 NFS support files common to client Versions of packages openoffice.org-common depends on: ii dictionaries-common [openoffi 0.86.2 Common utilities for spelling dict ii openoffice.org-style-andromed 2.2.1-9Default symbol style for OpenOffic Versions of packages openoffice.org-java-common depends on: pn bsh none (no description available) pn libjaxp1.2-java none (no
