Bug#615532: /sbin/dhclient: turn on computer first, then router with DHCP server = too long timeout for networking enabling
Package: isc-dhcp-client Version: 4.1.1-P1-15 Severity: normal File: /sbin/dhclient Excuse me for my bad English :-) I have a computer with Debian 6 and router with DHCP server. When I turn on router first and then computer - network works without any problems. But when I turn on computer first and then router - network begin to work only after a long timeout (nearly 5 minutes). I am sure that networking can be started much faster because kernel knows exact moment when ethernet connection established. So, Debian can try to start networking without so long timeout. I have not NetworkManager installed but I am sure that networking should start fast on desktop regardless of NetworkManager existence. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages isc-dhcp-client depends on: ii debianutils 3.4 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii iproute 20100519-3 networking and traffic control too ii isc-dhcp-common 4.1.1-P1-15 common files used by all the isc-d ii libc62.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib isc-dhcp-client recommends no packages. Bug#611529: Update to build with soundtouch 1.5
Hello: The proposed patched was made before libsoundtouch0-dev got renamed to libsoundtouch-dev. When the changes recommended in this patch get applied please also add these changes: 1) Strip the soname from the name of the build dependency. Change the two instances of libsoundtouch0-dev ( previously libsoundtouch1-dev) in the control file to libsoundtouch-dev. 2) Tighten dependency on libsoundtouch-dev to libsoundtouch-dev (= 1.5.0) . The reasoning is that soundtouch.pc is only found in libsoundtouch-dev = 1.5.0 . Thanks in advance. Bug#615533: fatrat: downloads should not require so much interaction with user
Package: fatrat Version: 1.1.3-1 Severity: normal Excuse me for my bad English :-) I have turned on computer with Debian first and then router with DHCP server. Debian was loaded and have found that there is no ethernet connection. Fatrat stopped all downloads with messages Couldn't resolve host Then after long timeout Debian's slow DHCP client found that ethernet connection present already and networking was turned on. But fatrat did not continue downloads. I need to resume downloads manually. I have not found any options for retry timeout. The bug is: fatrat should manage downloads without requiring user care. This is too annoying to control fatrat manually always. Download manager ideally should work with principle user can add download and forget about it, all will be done automatically. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages fatrat depends on: ii fatrat-data 1.1.3-1 data files for fatrat ii libboost-date-time1. 1.42.0-4set of date-time libraries based o ii libboost-system1.42. 1.42.0-4Operating system (e.g. diagnostics ii libc62.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.21.0-1Multi-protocol file transfer libra ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-8 GCC support library ii libgloox81.0-1 C++ jabber/xmpp library ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-help 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 help module ii libqt4-network 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 network module ii libqt4-script4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 script module ii libqt4-sql-sqlite4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 SQLite 3 database driver ii libqt4-svg 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 SVG module ii libqt4-webkit4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 WebKit module ii libqt4-xml 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui44:4.6.3-4 Qt 4 GUI module ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtorrent-rasterbar 0.14.10-2+b1C++ bittorrent library by Rasterba ii xdg-utils1.0.2+cvs20100307-2 desktop integration utilities from fatrat recommends no packages. fatrat suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#615143: dictionaries-common: Is there a reason still not to byte-compile on emacs-snapshot?
On Sun, Feb 27 2011, Agustin Martin wrote: The idea is to try having 'emacs-snapshot' as pristine as possible, so bugs found are really bugs in it and better service is done to FSF Emacs development. This is only documented in policy document, but not in README.emacs, where some info could be added. Unless Julien thinks diffferently, I think I will close this bug report by adding an extended reasoning like the one below to README.emacs. That still makes sense IMHO. Are you sure? /usr/src/linux-2.6.38-rc6/sound $ find . -iname cs46xx_image.h cs46xx_image.h Please notice: You find that file only in the vanilla sources from ttp://kernel.org/. The Debian sources are cleand from non DFSG files ;-) Yes - sure - but this is not what i mean or we have discussed. This piece of source can be found at kernel.org - like described in the Debian wiki. But it is not part of the compiled kernel - so the kernel must not be compiled new to use it. It is dynamically loaded by the external kernel driver. Another question is if a CSxx chipset can't be supported by Debian, if only one file can't be shipped with the distribution? The kernel driver is still part of the distribution, only the firmware file is missing. But it seems that the IEC859-Problem is based in the sources of ALSA, so it is not a problem of Debian. Bug#471111: mpd_stop should preferentially invoke mpd --kill
tag 47 moreinfo thanks Nick Black schrieb am Monday, den 24. March 2008: Decklin Foster left as an exercise for the reader: I'm not sure this is implied by the wording. Regardless, --kill functions by reading the pid_file and sending a SIGTERM to the mpd process. start-stop-daemon (as called by our init script) sends SIGTERM, waits 5 seconds, then sends SIGKILL. If your system is extremely loaded, perhaps MPD does not respond to the SIGTERM within 5 seconds. Try changing the value given for --retry. If this solves a reproducible problem for you, I'll consider increasing it. However, if your system seems fine otherwise, it would be helpful if you could examine closely what is going on during the timeout. It may be a sign of some other problem. It does solve a reproducible problem for me -- that my playlist / track position is not preserved across reboots. However, I might have determined the real cause. I'm using an alternate configuration file (~dank/.mpdconf), and have set this in /etc/defaults/mpd via: [recombinator](0) $ cat /etc/default/mpd ## Defaults for the MPD init script, sourced by /etc/init.d/mpd on Debian ## systems. Uncomment (remove the leading '#') and change values as needed. ## Change this to prevent MPD from being started as a system service (for ## example, if you want to run it from a regular user account) START_MPD=true ## The configuration file location for mpd: MPDCONF=/home/dank/.mpdconf [recombinator](0) $ When I shutdown, I see the error message can't find PID in /var/run/mpd/pid. This pidfile is the location set by /etc/mpd.conf. That, however, is not the configuration file which ought be used. Start works successfully, since the correct pidfile is being set: [recombinator](0) $ ls /var/run/mpd/ [recombinator](0) $ ls ~dank/var/lib/mpd/ database pidlock statefile [recombinator](0) $ cat ~dank/var/lib/mpd/pidlock 3321 [recombinator](0) $ ps 3321 PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND 3321 ?S 0:00 /usr/local/bin/mpd /home/dank/.mpdconf [recombinator](0) $ I'm not sure why this happens -- it seems the MPDCONF variable should be getting set for shutdown, as well. Nonetheless, it suggests the cause of the problems, and why my initial suggestion was incorrect. It should use the correct pidfile. Can you give me the output of sh -x /etc/init.d/mpd stop? Bug#607754: Address family for hostname not supported
Package: mpd Severity: normal Thanks for your reply. Right now I'm forced to use my wireless Huawei, on which bug does not shows. I will be able to hook to wired connection on Easter. Then I will try to reproduce a bug and provide additional info. I'm attaching /etc/network/interfaces (as you can see, it's mostly commented out) and ifconfig output (but it's not on wired connection, so perhaps not very helpful). Since my /etc/hosts is 16k lines (it provides basic spam filtering), I put it on my web: http://minio.komunikatory.pl/pliki/etc-hosts Neither of files has been changed since I reported a bug. Bug#613661: patch attached
Hi Hilmar, On Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 05:34:48PM +0100, Hilmar Preusse wrote: Many thanks for the patch! However these control files are generated, i.e. the bug is either in the description provided by upstream or the generator program. Unfortunately I can't help here as I don't know hot the generation works. Thank you for your message. I understand now that control files are automatically generated from texlive sources using a script. When exploring texlive source tree, I found that the field longdesc was missing in the files describing language collections for Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, causing the difference with other package descriptions in Debian. The missing longdesc have been added in a recent commit (r21528). So this bug should be fixed automatically in a future upload of the Debian packages. Bug#614353: multipath-tools-boot: upgrade to squeeze breaks machines with root on iscsi
On Sun, 2011-02-27 at 12:02 +0530, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote: severity 614353 normal thanks On 02/25/2011 03:26 PM, Hanspeter Kunz wrote: I switched to the /dev/mapper devices for booting as you suggested. that works. interestingly, after the boot has finished, the /dev/disk/by-uuid symlinks are created correctly. Therefore, the only problem is that they are not created during boot. This is clearly a bug. I do not know if this is multipath-tools' fault. It could as well be a bug in udev. So please reassign the bug, if necessary. I would be very thankful if we could resolve this issue as quickly as possible, as I have many machines booting over iscsi, and I would like to migrate them as soon as possible to squeeze (without switching all the device paths in the pxe-config and fstab). If there is any way in which I can help, please let me know. I am confused now of your problem. Initially you mentioned that you have multipath involved in your setup. If so, multipath will always add that device to its table and not free it, unless you blacklist that particular device in multipath's configuration. If your requirement is to boot off of the scsi device itself, either blacklist the device or purge multipath-tools and rebuild your initrd image. ok, let me restate the issue, it is actually quite simple: During boot, after multipath assembled its devices, I see the /dev/mapper multipath devices (which is fine) but the /dev/disk/by-uuid symlinks point to one of the underlying iscsi devices. Therefore, I cannot not boot using root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/... because this leads to an error (as the device is already used by multipath). when I boot the same system using root=/dev/mapper/... it works. after booting, when the system is up, the /dev/disk/by-uuid symlinks point to the multipath devices (an not anymore to the iscsi devices directly), which is how it should be. so the only thing that is missing is that these symlinks are created correctly during boot. Bug#609441: reassign 609441 alsa-base
This bug is definitely not related to phonon. One subproblem is solved - it was a missing configuration of multiple sound cards (CA0106 bug 614074). Another subproblem has been defined not to be a Debian problem any more because of DFSG (CS4630 bug 614076). The last problem is still open (CM6501 bug 614074). It's good that some of the problems can be solved in detail up to now, but maybe there is the need for a better automatic configuration to avoid such problems in the future? Please remind that there where not such problems on the same hardware with Lenny before. Bug#615553: debhelper: please add a --no-log option to dh_auto_*
Package: debhelper Version: 8.0.0 Severity: wishlist Hi, please add a --no-log option to the dh_uto_* helper to prevent them from appearing in debian/debhelper.log. Rationale: I am going to package a software program that comes in two variants A and B that need to selected at build time. I want to package both variants and do the following: override_dh_auto_build: dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=A cp program program-a dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=B Obviously, this won't work, because the time stamps of all object files are still up-to-date and thus they won't get rebuilt. So I have to do the following: override_dh_auto_build: dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=A cp program program-a $(MAKE) clean dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=B But wait, there is a debhelper script for this: override_dh_auto_build: dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=A cp program program-a dh_auto_clean dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=B However, this will only work for the first build. If I try to build a second time from the same source tree, dh clean will refuse to run dh_auto_clean, because it is already in the debian/debhelper.log file. Thus things will break... So, what I am proposing is a --no-log option to explicitely keep single debhelper script invokation from showing up in debian/debhelper.log. My rules will would then look like the following: override_dh_auto_build: dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=A cp program program-a dh_auto_clean --no-log dh_auto_build -- VARIANT=B Thanks for considering this! Bug#615557: Broken select loop, not interruptable
Package: libdpkg-ruby1.8 Version: 0.3.6+nmu1 Severity: important Hi, this problem is related to 585448 but is not quite the same. Even after increasing the file descriptor limit, apt-listbugs seems to hang in the next stage. It looks like the select call includes some bad file descriptors and the loop does not handle EBADF properly. It simply keeps looping. Furthermore, the process does not respond to SIGTERM anymore (or whatever apt-listbugs uses to send a termination hint internally). Only kill -9 helps. And another thing: what is this fcntl orgy, why do you need the gazillions of fcntls? Cannot this be done in a faster, less cpu-consuming way, like setting the flags once and remember the state of the file descriptors? The strace log looks like this: [pid 24904] fcntl64(1147, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1148, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1149, F_GETFD) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor) [pid 24904] clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {3918, 586781073}) = 0 [pid 24904] select(1150, [1025 1026 1033 1056 1060 1063 1064 1065 1068 1070 1071 1075 1096 1097 1098 1099 1100 1102 1104 1105 1109 1110 1112 1113 1114 1116 1117 1119 1123 1129 1130 1132 1137 1138 1139 1140 1141 1142 1143 1144 1145 1146 1147 1148 1149], [], [], {518, 578449}) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor) [pid 24904] fcntl64(1025, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1026, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1033, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1057, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1058, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1059, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1063, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1064, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1065, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1068, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1070, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1071, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1075, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1096, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1097, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1098, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1099, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1100, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1102, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1104, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1105, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1109, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1110, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1112, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1113, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1114, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1116, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1117, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1119, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1123, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1129, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1130, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1132, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1137, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1138, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1139, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1140, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1141, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1142, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1143, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1144, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1145, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1146, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1147, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1148, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1149, F_GETFD) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor) [pid 24904] clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {3918, 591514635}) = 0 [pid 24904] select(1150, [1025 1026 1033 1056 1057 1060 1064 1070 1071 1075 1096 1097 1098 1099 1100 1102 1104 1105 1109 1110 1112 1113 1114 1116 1117 1119 1123 1129 1130 1132 1137 1138 1139 1140 1141 1142 1143 1144 1145 1146 1147 1148 1149], [], [], {518, 573715}) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor) [pid 24904] fcntl64(1025, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1026, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1033, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1057, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1058, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1059, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1064, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1070, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1071, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1075, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1096, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1097, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1098, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1099, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1100, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1102, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1104, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1105, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1109, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1110, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1112, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1113, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1114, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1116, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1117, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1119, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1123, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1129, F_GETFD) = 0 [pid 24904] fcntl64(1130, F_GETFD)

Bug#615556: dash: fails to install when /usr/share/man doesn't exist
severity 615556 important quit Hi, Lorenzo wrote: Unpacking dash (from .../dash_0.5.5.1-7.4em1_i386.deb) ... Adding 'diversion of /bin/sh to /bin/sh.distrib by dash' ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/share/man/man1/sh.1.gz.tmp': No such file or directory [...] The error is due to the fact that the chroot where the package is being installed doesn't contain /usr/share/man (it is a EmDebian chroot). I don't believe policy requires the unmodified maintainer scripts to work in such a hostile environment (the /usr/share/man/man1 directory is part of a number of essential packages), though I could easily be wrong. But putting that aside, how are packages supposed to deal with this? Is it only /usr/share/man that might be stripped away or are there other directories to worry about? If a directory is missing, is it safe to assume nothing should be installed there, or should some directories be silently created when needed? Does emdebian have a way to provide emdebian-specific changes to maintainer scripts? Are stock packages supposed to work in an emdebian environment? It all seems murky. Hints welcome. Bug#613225: Acknowledgement (linux-image-2.6.32: fails to suspend to RAM)
You can close this one or downgrade it. There is a problem somewhere in the suspend/resume, but it is too esoteric and hard to reproduce. Upgrade to KDE4 left a total mess in various KDE cache files resulting in the machine keeping open files on autofs NFS across a VPN link and not unmounting (as it should) stuff before trying to suspend. So on the negative side - if there are files open on an automounted NFS mount there may be circumstances where the kernel can go berserk when it tries to suspend. On the positive side - once the KDE cache, history, etc was cleared and the files were not being accessed any more the machine started suspending properly once again. I have not been able to reproduce this issue from that point onwards. Brgds, On 13/02/11 16:03, Debian Bug Tracking System wrote: Thank you for filing a new Bug report with Debian. Bug#615143: dictionaries-common: Is there a reason still not to byte-compile on emacs-snapshot?

Any news about this bug? As we should not remove the package, and as it seems the maintainer isn't interested in the package anymore, would one of you two be willing to take care of the package for the time being? I am working on it, and will soon upload a rebuild. I will also publish the packaging branch on git.debian.org. Co-maintainers would indeed be very welcome. It has been a year now since this and not progress. Noteedit is built on top of kdelibs from KDE 3 that is being removed from the archive. So I am afraid you will have to get the features you are missing in Canorus or well work in a kde4 port and reintroduce it in the Debian archive. Therefore it is unclear whether LabPlot and SciDAVis will be built from the same Debian source package once the merge is complete. I recommend to remove LabPlot after the release of Squeeze and use SciDAVis instead. LabPlot should be reintroduced as soon as there is a working KDE4 port of it. The transition phase to KDE4 and Qt4 will finish since both KDE and Nokia upstream don't maintain the old versions of those libraries anymore. In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on the KDE3/Qt3 libraries have to either get ported to KDE4/Qt4 or eventually get removed from the Debian repositories. Therefore, please take the time and: - contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a KDE4/Qt4 port of your application - if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are suitable alternatives for your users - if there is a KDE4/Qt4 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it - if both the KDE3/Qt3 and the KDE4/Qt4 version already coexist in the Debian archives, consider removing the KDE3/Qt3 version skim did not make into Squeeze due to a RC bug, I guess nobody cared enough about it to fix it (or answer the bug report). Quite a number of the sbuild.conf defaults need re-synching with the current defaults. Ideally, I'd like to autogenerate the entire file from the configuration class. The sticking point is the mapping between the internal name and the variable name e.g. APT_UPGRADE ←→ $apt_upgrade If we could automatically insert the vars into the symbol table, we could provide both the help text and variable name directly with the defaults like so: 'APT_UPGRADE' = { DEFAULT = 1, SYMBOL = '$apt_upgrade', DESC = 'APT upgrade. 1 to enable running apt-get upgrade at the start of each build, or 0 to disable.' }, This would make the configuration much more robust (currently, it needs three separate bits to be altered: the definition as above, the symbol definition, and the setting logic. This would require some perl-fu to directly alter the symbol table. This work has been done for sbuild.conf, and is now on git master. - sbuild.conf is automatically generated, and contains the current defaults [note some defaults are user-specific, so it's not yet perfect, but all the important ones like in this bug report are correct] - sbuild.conf(5) has been added, which contains the same information but is actual proper documentation This should address the main issue in the bug report, namely that the defaults will always be reported. I'll also make more effort to mention changed defaults in the debian/changelog where they have impact on end users, otherwise they will always be in the upstream changelog. Regards, Roger -- .''`.
