Hello Michael, thanks for the patch. But I would like you to ask to remove this NMU. Multiarch is fixed already in git [1] about a week ago. But it is not yet fully tested against all build-rdepends. The new version debian/2.6.0-3 which fixes FTBFS on KfreeBSD-systems is waiting for uploading [2]. The next upload will fix multi-arch issue. Bug#673490: Sorry about the delay on this
Hi! I'm still alive and aware of the freeze coming now but I've been father for the second time three weeks ago and I'm still not able to find the time needed to fix all this. What I'm planning to do with all the stuff we've talked about on this bug: vlan dependency: leave it like it is for wheezy as we are not dropping the package yet and the changes I'll need to do are too big for this time of the release. hotplug of interfaces: have this behaviour selectable and disabled by default on a /etc/default/bridge-utils (I know some people won't like this, but I couldn't get the help on looking at all this that I was hoping for, so... this is the best I can do for now) resolvconf issue: there is already another bug for that one (#676183) and I'll try to reproduce and fix this one. Any other? If anybody wants to help in sending patches or whatever he is welcome to do so, as I'm still having problems in finding time for this and I'm having a travel soon, so time will even be less. Bug#679491: [fetchmail] Spamassassin-Fetchmail depedenty boot order needs fixing
Package: fetchmail Version: 6.3.21-4 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I am including verbatum a posting and answer about this problem: The new sysv-rc assined K01 symlinks to fetchmail. However, I want to have spamassassin and its rules up beforehand. I have been doing this explicitly in what is now rc.local. Fetchmail did not like the duplicated start and my mail wored only after I restarted fetcmail. There must be a more correct way to do this. ( Meanwhile, I removed the symlinks to allow my rc.local to start fetchmail. The next upgrades will restore them unless I divert. The sysv-rc gave K03 symlinks to spamassassin which would mean starting after fetchmail and there is not menion of the rules. ) Looking at the fetchmail init script: ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: fetchmail # Required-Start:$network $local_fs $remote_fs $syslog # Required-Stop: $remote_fs # Should-Start: $mail-transport-agent exim4 $named # Should-Stop: $mail-transport-agent exim4 # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5 # Default-Stop: # Short-Description: init-Script for system wide fetchmail daemon ### END INIT INFO and spamassassin: ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: spamassassin # Required-Start: $remote_fs # Required-Stop: $remote_fs # Should-Start: $network $syslog # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5 # Default-Stop: 0 1 6 ### END INIT INFO So you just need to have Should-Start: spamassassin in the fetchmail script. And/or X-Start-Before: fetchmail in the spamassassin script. Then re-run insserv. I would suggest filing a bug against the fetchmail package asking them to do the former. While the dependency info was missing in this case, this is actually the nice thing about the dependency based boot. The fetchmail- spamassassin dependency is implicit with sequence numbers, and not immediately obvious. Bug#677191: Add watch: LP#789706
Just a quick note that Ubuntu Launchpad has a largish number of recent duplicates for this bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xemacs21/+bug/789706 xemacs21 has been stable (as in basically unmaintained in Ubuntu) for a long time, across several Ubuntu releases. This points to emacsen-common as the likely source for whatever exposes this, although it may well be that the root cause for the bug is in the xemacs21 packaging. #313511 looks similar, maybe the changes discussed there are actually relevant for this case? /* era */ -- If this were a real .signature, it would suck less. Why is it important enough to have multi-arch openjpeg to do an NMU just before the freeze? Hi Michael; It seems we need more time to discuss this, so I cancelled the upload for now. Personally I think it would be better to wait until after the openjpeg5 transition and then work on multiarchifying the latest version of the library, presumably after the freeze. If there is some urgent reason to push through multiarch at this time, I leave you and Mathieu (who is an upstream maintainer and the main person interested on the debian side) to sort that out. The goal was to get multiarch enabled in all of wine's dependencies. openjpeg 1.5 is already multiarched, but that has yet to hit unstable. There is a lot of apparent brokenness in that transition, so 1.3 may be with us for a while: http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/openjpeg.html There is not a single 'brokenness'. openjpeg 1.5 is still in experimental. It needs a source uploads in unstable and a couple of deps needs binNMU that is all. API is preserved not ABI that's all. The libopenjpeg2 dependency addition is a mistake, and I'll remove that. So, I would like to go ahead with the nmu again (with the above fixed). Would that be ok from your perspective? Well for me working on #669348 would be make so much more sense (fixing CVEs and tons of bugs), but if you have time for this, go ahead... -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#679504: RFP: lazylpsolverlibs -- libraries that proxy function calls to commercial lp solvers
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Lazylpsolverlibs [1] is a set of libraries designed to make Coin-Osi [2] support commercial solvers without recompilation. Currently the package for Coin-Osi (coinor-libosi-dev) is useless for people who own licenses for commercial solvers, because it does not support these solvers. Bug#679505: controlaula: package description review
Package: controlaula Version: 1.8.0-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch There are several language problems in the package descriptions for controlaula and ltsp-controlaula, which is a pity when the package is intended to appeal to schoolteachers! Package: controlaula Architecture: all Depends: ${python:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, python-avahi, python-gtk2, python-gobject, python-notify, python-openssl, python-simplejson, python-twisted-web, python-xlib, avahi-daemon, xvnc4viewer | xtightvncviewer, vlc (= 1.0.2), libdvdplay0 | libdvdnav4, x11vnc (= 0.8.2), ifupdown, iptables, libjs-jquery (= 1.4.2) Recommends: cups-client, ethtool Suggests: libdvdcss2 Conflicts: ltsp-controlaula Description: Classroom management tool The content's good, but DevRef says there's no need for initial capitalisation. Assists teachers in the management of a classroom with computers in the students desktops. That's not a sentence; start with the subject, ControlAula (to adopt the upstream capitalisation). Computers in the students desktops is wrong in two ways: first, they're unlikely to be *inside* the desks, and second, students needs a possessive apostrophe. (The following newline without a paragraph break achieves nothing, so I've removed it.) It also gives to the student tools to share files and work in groups and send messages to the teacher or the other collegues. This sentence needs some rephrasing; for instance you don't need the first and. More importantly, collegue is a misspelling of the wrong word. . This package has to be installed in the teacher pc and the students workstations. When using LTSP this package must not be installed inside the clients chroot. More apostropheless possessives, and a minuscule PC. But this isn't really a very clear way to explain this, especially to readers who don't already happen to know about LTSP client chroots. Why go into the details of the wrong way of installing it? Just say how it is designed to be installed and then say compare the other version. . Check the documentation for detailed instructions to set it up. This is misleading, given that the documentation appears only to be available online, not in the packages. And anyway, where would the detailed instructions be if *not* in the documentation? My revised version of this package description: | Description: classroom management tool | ControlAula assists teachers in the management of a classroom with | computers on the students' desktops. It also gives the students tools | to share files, work in groups, and send messages to the teacher or to | classmates. | . | This version is designed to be set up on the teacher's PC and the | students' workstations (compare the package ltsp-controlaula). When using LTSP this package must be installed in the clients chroot. It is not true that using LTSP requires me to install (any version of) ControlAula. . Check the documentation for detailed instructions to set it up. Again, throw out this line (though notice that I replace installed with set up to hint at the need for configuration). Bug#678594: RFS: driftnet/0.1.6+cvs20040426-1 [ITA] [RC] (second try: documented upstream repackaging and updated man file)
Hi David, On 2012-06-29 01:01, david.sephi...@gmail.com wrote: Sorry, Im not English native. No big problem, neither am I. [...] My intention is take over the development of driftnet but I tried to contact Chris Lightfoot, the upstream author, and I notice that he dead some years ago. About this situation, I have a question: If i create a new fork (that i want to develop and maintain), can it be uploaded to the debian archive as if it were the original driftnet package ? I don't have a strong opinion about that, but I think we can follow the libc example: source package name to be changed to the name of the fork but binary package name to be the same. This was the question for the future, for now I can upload your currently proposed changes. Note, if you choose me as sponsor, I require bumping Debian revision after each package review (if there any changes, of course). Ok, the next upload that fixes the two points discused above will be driftnet/0.1.6+cvs20040426-2. Good. Another point which I now noticed is that you want to lowercase the short description: s/Picks out/picks out/. So, please fix that, add Vcs-* headers, fix changelog corrections above and I'll upload the package. -- Eugene V. Bug#679496: [cyrus-imapd-2.2 source] dependency problem: libdb4.7-dev vs libdb4.8-dev
Some naive users (like me) could think in the stable release all software should use the same version of BDB. :- IMHO this is problem is not in upstream software but with debianizing. But I may be wrong... That's an opinion and not a bug. Note that BDB packaging and dependencies are/were very difficult and your premise about 'not in upstream' is simply wrong. Some packages just got broken when compiled with different BDB version, because of BDB upstream change in behaviour. However this state (only one version of BDB) was achieved in wheezy[*] after I took over BDB maintainence in Debian. And it took enormous amount of time to achieve that. * - Only db5.1 is present at the moment (after the python2.6 is sucessfully built). Don't know what to install from the CD though, the pak0.pk3?? file and ? pak0.pk3 is all you need from the CD. You also need the last Quake III Arena patch (install quake3 and look in /usr/share/games/quake3/README.quake3-data for more details). Then run: game-data-packager /path/to/pak0.pk3 \ /path/to/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run and install the resulting quake3-data package. As I said, OpenArena is a better test, though (it exercises bits of the code that aren't normally used in Quake III Arena, and that I suspect could be a problem on new ports). * graphics/sound, for the client (does Hurd have any accelerated 3D? If not, it's likely to be unplayable - seconds per frame rather than frames per second) Is it the server or client that provides the audio/video? The client (in any game of this genre). If Hurd lacks accelerated 3D, it might make sense to only ship ioquake3-server, and leave out ioquake3. Does it make any harm if the client is built? I don't think people will try the client until 3D video is supported. I'd prefer to avoid shipping a package that's effectively useless on its target OS, particularly if that means nobody has ever tested it. libgl1-mesa-swx11 might be less horribly slow than an unaccelerated libgl1-mesa-glx, perhaps? The state-of-the-art in software rendering is llvmpipe, but Debian doesn't seem to have that yet. Yes, it is not needed, I have built ioquake3 without that part. Should I a provide an updated patch? Just to be sure, please send the actual patches you tested. Yes, the answer is gnu because uname results in GNU. Good, the patch should be able to go upstream then. As discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 this locale could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a great loss. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation). To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Thanks for helping to resolve this! I'm not sure we ever want to go this route -- the result smells too complicated. What exactly? Every day we run 1/X'th part of job (by default, X=28) for 1 hour. That should be enough for arrays upto 10Tb out of box. And, of course, it' adjustable by local admin. The whole set of arrays would be checked fully every month in average, on a regular basis. There is a trouble, mentioned in #556610, when arrays are sharing common devices. Well, the sizes of the typical arrays are increasing, and hence the time required to complete the checks, so it becomes more and more important, so we have to do something with that. Yep. Bug#675452: Bug#677504: lintian fixes
#675452 ... So, if you do have some time and are willing to help, that's where to look at :) Comment was added. Yes, I've seen these. But at this point before wheezy release I don't want to enable asyncronous array processing like this. Â Once we enable that in in the initramfs, we have to enable it in regular userspace too, so that other parts of arrays will be processed later. Â This has to be supported from initramfs to regular userspace and whole thing has to be switched to asyncronous processing, which needs quite good testing in various usage scenarios out there. Probably, Martin has some knowledge about asynchronous array processing and why this branch was abandoned time ago. For now, the most appropriate course of actions, I think, is to run udevadm settle before mdadm --assemble and, if after --assemble, the root device is not there still, sleep a few seconds and repeat WHOLE series of scripts in initramfs again, up to a configured amount of times. Â This should already work for cryptoloop which should not ask for a password again if the device is already configured, and this should work for lvm on top of md raid too, with lvm not being asyncronous like md is. Looks complex. As a dirty fix, you can introduce a configurable option (default: off) to set a delay before --assemble. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#555168: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you
On 06/29/2012 12:30 PM, Helge Kreutzmann wrote: Hello, you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale: tr_TR This locale comes with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. Thus it does not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this statement was meant as a license. Sure, I put my name to be contacted in case of any problem. I did not have any intention to put any license restrictions in the first place . I believe that statement was inherited from a template of libc at that moment. I am willing to set it to LGPL v2 or any license to be consistent with the rest of the locale licenses. You can delete my name as well since I do not maintain it for a long time. Let me know if I can provide any assistance you might need. Best regards. -- Onur Tolga Sehitoglu http://www.ceng.metu.edu.tr/~onur/ If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Bug#679516: qa.debian.org: PTS .dsc URLs use section from latest upload for all distributions
Package: qa.debian.org Severity: normal Hi, The 'Versions' section in the PTS shows the version currently in each distribution, and provides link to the corresponding .dsc file. The .dsc URL appears to use the section field from the latest upload to generate the URL for all the available .dsc files in all the distributions. This leads to invalid links when a package changes sections, for example from non-free to main. See the figlet PTS page [1] for an example: oldstable 2.2.2-1 http://cdn.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/figlet/figlet_2.2.2-1.dsc stable 2.2.2-1 http://cdn.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/figlet/figlet_2.2.2-1.dsc testing 2.2.5-1 http://cdn.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/figlet/figlet_2.2.5-1.dsc unstable2.2.5-1 http://cdn.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/figlet/figlet_2.2.5-1.dsc The oldstable and stable links point to 404s. Bug#663964: apt-listbugs?
Hi Michael, I believe this is a nice new function to have in U-A, but it's probably too late for wheezy. :-) 2012/6/28 Michael Vogt michael.v...@gmail.com: thanks for your bugreport. How does apt-listbugs put a package into this state? u-n should supoprt the dpkg HOLD state and honor that. I think we're not talking about the same thing. Currently «apt-listbugs» will abort an install/upgrade of a *set* of packages if one of them has a RC bug. I'm proposing for U-A to detect (via an APT plugin or something) these RC packages and ignore them during the upgrade like all the other packages that are ignored due to some conditions. Bug#679519: linux-image-3.2.0-3-rt-amd64: usbhid causes crashes in applications by memory corruption
Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.21-2 X-Mailer: reportbug 4.12.6 Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2012 11:26:06 +0100 Severity: normal Tags: upstream When I plug in a USB mouse (or keyboard, but I don't normally do that) into this laptop, the first event -- mouse movement -- causes some applications to crash with a memory corruption message from malloc. Applications which reliably crash every time are audacious, cairo-dock and zenity. However, if re-started, they may or may not crash again. If usbhid is blacklisted, no crashes occur, although, obviously, the mouse does not work. I can use the built-in trackpad. I've tried a vanilla kernel compiled from source (although not the Debian way; sorry) and the result is the same. Bug#679106: cron: multiple /etc/init.d/cron stop may kill unrelated processes
Hi Javier. Sorry for the late reply: On Wed, 2012-06-27 at 20:36 +0200, Javier Fernandez-Sanguino wrote: For its stop argument, cron uses /lib/lsb/init-functions's killproc. As you see there is one special thing, my custom locale en_DE.UTF-8... but this is not so special as it seems,... it's merely the normal en_US local but with dates and some other stuff set to the metric / ISO formats. Reading more carefully http://bugs.debian.org/619367 I see that it points to http://bugs.debian.org/391778, where some symlinks are done at xemacs21-* postinst. May be those symlinks should be done in appropriate preinst if needed, so paths are available even if xemacs21* is not yet configured. I am thinking about a possible alternative, a dirty workaround from the emacsen-common side, make emacs-install and emacs-package-install skip byte compilation for xemacs21 if those symlinks are not set, warning about this. emacs-install should be called again from relevant xemacs21* postinsts, and this last must be done after symlinks are set. Did not look at emacs-install and emacs-package-install, nor sure how reasonable / rock solid/ easy is this. Also, I find this a bit weak regarding possible changes in xemacs21, but ... Bug#679522: apache2.2-common: Apache Common and Combined definition Vs. documentation disparity
Package: apache2.2-common Version: 2.2.16-6+squeeze7 Severity: normal Using the default apache install the common and combined log format definitions differ from both the vanilla apache documentation and the documentation provided in the apache2-doc package in the file: /usr/share/doc/apache2-doc/manual/en/logs.html The vanilla apache documentation, the documentation in the apache2-doc package and the config file in the vanilla apache2.2.22 source package define the combined and common log file formats respectively as follows: LogFormat %h %l %u %t \%r\ %s %b \%{Referer}i\ \%{User-Agent}i\ combined LogFormat %h %l %u %t \%r\ %s %b common The file /etc/apache2/apache2.conf included in the Debian apache2.2-common package defines the combined and common log file formats respectively as follows: LogFormat %h %l %u %t \%r\ %s %O \%{Referer}i\ \%{User-Agent}i\ combined LogFormat %h %l %u %t \%r\ %s %O common The difference between them being that where in the vanilla version we have ‘%b’ whilst in the apache2.2-common version we have ’%O’. Whilst the data they return is similar they are not the same. From my point of view the two logical ways to deal with this issue are 1. Change the /etc/apache2/apache2.conf file in the apache2.2.-common package from the ‘%O’ flag to the ‘%b’ flag. This will then match the documentation on the apache site, the documentation in the apache2-doc and the vanilla apache configuration. 2. Change the name of the log file definitions in the configuration file (e.g. from common and combined to common-debian and combined-debian) to stop confusion with the different but identically named formats in the apache vanilla documentation. Change the documentation provided in the apache2-doc packed to reflect this change. Note for the purposes of this bug report ‘vanilla apache’ means from the httpd.apache.org site and nothing to do with the Debian distribution. Note: I originally noticed this issue on Ubuntu but have reproduced it on Debian. The Ubuntu bug management team indicated that I should report the issue here as it is reproduceable upstream on Debian. severity 679511 wishlist tag 679511 +wontfix thank you As in case #179654: this violates policy section 6.2. Debian policy 6.2 speaks about maintainer scripts (postinst, postrm, preinst, prerm) and not about build scripts. Just use git-buildpackage and life will be much easier... so these kind of bugs would get fixed only if accompanied by a patch. Anyway just FYI cyrus-imapd-2.2 is going away in wheezy and I am not going to fix that in squeeze. Bug#676381: procps: IPV6 privacy extensions not activted even though configured
retitle 676381 init script needs X-Start-Before: network thankyou On Thu, Jun 28, 2012 at 10:46:12AM +0200, Dirk Griesbach wrote: I messed procps and networking, sorry for the confusion. In fact, in procps I use the line: # X-Start-Before:$network procps before $network so settings apply to all networking interfaces. It used to be S30procps and S40networking so this will restore that order. It will be in the next release. - Craig -- Craig Small VK2XLZ http://enc.com.au/ csmall at : enc.com.au Debian GNU/Linux http://www.debian.org/ csmall at : debian.org GPG fingerprint: 5D2F B320 B825 D939 04D2 0519 3938 F96B DF50 FEA5 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#614907: Draft resolution for node+nodejs
On Thu, Jun 28, 2012 at 12:52:39PM -0700, Steve Langasek wrote: Sorry this is so long in coming. Here's the draft resolution for this issue, agreed at the last IRC meeting. I thought about including a statement censuring nodejs upstream for their unhelpful behavior around this issue, but we didn't actually discuss that at the IRC meeting so I don't know if there's a consensus and don't want to hold this up any further. Situations like the one in this bug really have no terribly satisfactory answer. Whatever we do (including nothing!), some users are likely to end up being inconvenienced. I don't know how much issuing a censure would achieve - we can say it all we like, and I might well agree, but if they were going to pay attention then my suspicion is that we wouldn't have had this problem in the first place! - but I think it would be useful to take this situation as an opportunity to remind the wider free software world about the importance of playing nicely with the command namespace in the hope of reducing future problems. If this were picked up by technical news outlets then it might actually be a vaguely useful thing to do. I understand why you didn't want to hold up your resolution text on anything along these lines. Still, we can quite reasonably vote on such a statement independently. I'd like to suggest a statement under §6.1.5 along the following lines: The Technical Committee notes that the namespace of executable commands on $PATH is a resource shared among everyone writing software for POSIX-compatible systems, and that the combinations of packages that users may choose to install on a given system can easily surprise the authors of those packages. The Committee advises anyone writing widely-deployed software to consider its command name carefully at an early stage. It is a good idea to search the web for your proposed name and try to ensure that it is unique. It is likely to be a bad idea to use excessively short names or common words. The conflict between LinuxNode and Node.js demonstrates that taking a little time early on can avoid a great deal of tedium later. The Committee furthermore reminds Debian Developers that they are in an excellent position to assist upstream authors with identifying and resolving conflicts at an early stage, and that they should do so as soon as possible rather than deferring the problem until later and thus entrenching the naming conflict. === Resolution === The Technical Committee reaffirms the importance of preventing namespace collisions for programs in the distribution, while recognizing that compatibility with upstreams and with previous Debian releases is also important and that sometimes an imperfect balance must be struck between these three goals. The Committee therefore resolves that: 1. The nodejs package shall be changed to provide /usr/bin/nodejs, not /usr/bin/node. The package should declare a Breaks: relationship with any packages in Debian that reference /usr/bin/node. For consistent tense, I think s/should/shall/. 2. The nodejs source package shall also provide a nodejs-legacy binary package at Priority: extra that contains /usr/bin/node as a symlink to /usr/bin/nodejs. No package in the archive may depend on or recommend the nodejs-legacy package, which is provided solely for upstream compatibility. This package declares shall also declare a Conflicts: relationship with the node package. Typo: probably just This package shall also declare. Also, my apologies if this has been discussed already as I'm coming to this discussion very late, but isn't this a fairly rough transition? If I were designing this, there would be a period whereby users of the existing nodejs binary package are upgraded to a system with both nodejs and nodejs-legacy, to minimise breakage. If this has been discussed already and refuted for some reason, feel free to point me at the messages I missed. 3. The node source package shall rename its binary to /usr/sbin/ax25-node, and its binary package to ax25-node. 4. The node source package shall continue to build a transitional 'node' binary package for compatibility with deployed Debian installations, which provides /usr/sbin/node as a symlink to /usr/sbin/ax25-node. This package shall declare a reciprocal Conflicts: relationship with the nodejs-legacy package. Other packages may reference the 'node' package as a dependency or recommendation, but are encouraged to transition to 'ax25-node'. By contrast, this is a much smoother transition. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#655385: [squeeze openvz] Cannot allocate memory when doing cat /proc/self/mountinfo inside a vm
