Bug#720750: aptitude: search returns different numbers of packages depending on sort order

2013-08-25 Thread Christoph Groth
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.8.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainers,

I noticed that specifying different sorting orders with aptitude search does
lead to differing numbers of results being reported. For example

$ aptitude search ~i^lib | wc -l
1027
$ aptitude -O name search ~i^lib | wc -l
1027
$ aptitude -O installsize search ~i^lib | wc -l
610
$ aptitude -O version search ~i^lib | wc -l
676
$ aptitude -O priority search ~i^lib | wc -l
5

I find this behavior very surprising. If it is intended, I believe it should be
documented more clearly - I was not able to find any explanation of it.

Thank you,
Christoph

After updating to garmin-forerunner-toools-0.10repacked-3, the package

A google search on this issue brought me to the upstream bug tracker,
 http://code.google.com/p/garmintools/issues/detail?id=35, where someone else
has found it on Arch Linux and found that it was due to an issue when
 compiling
with GCC 4.8. There is a patch attached to that bug, but I have not tested it
to confirm that it's the same bug. The build logs for this version of the
debian package shows that it was built with gcc 4.8, however.

Thanks for all clear details. I guess Ralf will soon upload a fixed
version (Ralf, if you can't please tell me).

Bug#664420: About offering Latin-based Uyghur in Debian Installer

2013-08-25 Thread Christian PERRIER
Hello,

Sorry for missing this bug report when you sent it.

You request there a way to have a Debian Installer translation in
Uyghur with Latin script.

I have no strong opinion about that, but that would need going through
the Debian Installer New Language Process described in the D-I i18n
documentation:

http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/doc/i18n/

I would also suggest coordination with people currently working on the
Arabic-script-based Uyghur translation, namely Gheyret Tohti,
Abduqadir Abliz and the Uyghur Computer Science Association.

I woyld of course welcome such translation, assuiming it has some real
use (in short that latin-based Uyghur is widely-enough used to warrant
such work).

In the meantime, I consider closing this bug report, as adding a language in D-I
cannot easily be handled through a bug report, indeed.

The New Language Process is a multi-step process that usually includes
the debian-i18n mailing list, which is better suited for this(but you
obviously couldn't know...and sorry again for not noticing your bug
report when you sent it 1.5 years ago).

Thanks to Holger Levsen for digging this bug report out of the pile of
dust accumulated over D-I bug reports.

Bug#717687: bumblebee: cannot activate the discrete nvidia card

 Vincent,

Now that the 325.xx series drivers are in experimental, what do we do
 with this bug ?
Also, kernel 3.10 is now is unstable (and testing).

You should increase the severity of this bug because it breaks the
 tool's functionality.
There are actually several different issues affecting (or rather,
having affected) bumblebee in Debian lately (and I've just merged all
the reports into this one), none of which I can directly fix myself,
but all of which have either been fixed or have workarounds:

 1) nvidia + linux 3.10 compatibility - fixed for most users as of
src:nvidia-graphics-drivers 325.15-1, no need for 3rd party patches
anymore. However, users with certain laptop models may still have
issues with linux 3.10 + proprietary nvidia kernel module (see [1] for
details). There's nothing I can do about this; it needs to be fixed by
 Nvidia themselves.

Yup!! This hit me too. Even after the workarounds, I am unable to load
the driver. But my platform is a Lenovo W530.

 3) nvidia module in Debian renamed as of 319.32-2 to nvidia-current
(to support co-installation of several different versions of the
proprietary driver) - workaround is to edit
 /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf and change KernelDriver=nvidia to
 KernelDriver=nvidia-current, and then restarting bumblebeed
(service bumblebeed restart). This is not a change that I'd consider
making as default because it breaks bumblebee for Debian users not on
the latest nvidia driver series (e.g. I'd assume that once the legacy
nvidia 304 series is branched off, that it'll be given a different
module name), and also it'd break bumblebee for Ubuntu users. The most
I can do right now is probably just add an entry about this in
 README.Debian.

Hence, the situation isn't ideal but I doubt it's release-critical.
Even if it was, there's not much I can do about it.

Thanks for the updates.

This patch has been included in a new upstream release.

Oups, well, I went ahead and adapted your commit to the current version,
the same way I did before on Taffybar. I'm going to use
pkg-haskell-uupdate and rollback the patch I added. Also, shouldn't we
add a dependency constraint on libc-something?

Bug#696137: Wrong handling of pure ITP and pure ITA bug reports by your automatic WNPP script

2013-08-25 Thread Axel Beckert
Control: retitle -1 ITA: libtie-cache-perl -- perl Tie::Cache - LRU Cache in
Memory
Control: owner -1 Bart Martens ba...@debian.org

Hi Lucas,

Your script which automatically changes ITPs into RFPs and ITAs into
O bugs has an annoying bug:

It even changes bugs which where an ITP initially into RFP, which IMHO
is quite wrong, and -- as I saw today and even worse -- it changes
initial ITAs into O without the package ever being orphaned:
http://bugs.debian.org/696137

At least for me, those mails are definitely way more annoying than
helpful, at least in these cases. (IIRC I also already saw initial
RFAs which ended up as O despite they never were O before, but I'm not
sure in this case.)

So please change that script and refrain from changing initial ITAs
and ITPs into anything else.

If your really think these should be handled automatically (I don't
FTR), then close them, or better, just do a ping asking for a progress
report.

But please don't change these bug reports to something they never
were, especially not with phrases like changing back from ITA to O
which is just untrue and confusing.

TIA.

Regards, Axel

Bug#720761: Please be consistant about file with newline inside

2013-08-25 Thread bastien ROUCARIES
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.16.10
Severity: normal

Actually dpkg allow file with \n but dpkg -L break badly.

So two solutions:
1. allow dpkg to handle in every case file with \n
2. forbid dpkg to handle file with \n

Please note that we should in every case allow to handle file with \n when
created by admin/user (for instance configuration files created outside of
dpkg by admin under /etc should not break dpkg).

Bug#720763: pcmanfm: dependency conflict with lxde-core (libmenu-cache1)

2013-08-25 Thread Richard Lewis
Package: pcmanfm
Version: 0.9.10-3
Severity: important

Hi there,

I currently cane't upgrade lxde-core on my sid system. pcmanfm depends
on libmenu-cache1 while lxde-core depends on lxpanel which in turn
depends on libmenu-cache3. libmenu-cache3 conflicts with
libmenu-cache1.

Could pcmanfm depend on libmenu-cache3 instead?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi,
I am another user who experiences the same exact bug.
It basically happens weekly, I think.

I noticed that the issue may be temporarily fixed by manually
restarting rsyslog:

  # service rsyslog restart

But it comes back the next week... :-(

Dear Michael,
do you also experience this bug?
Any idea of the cause?
Did you forward this bug report upstream?

Please let us know, thanks for your time.

Thx.

Bug#720767: pulseaudio: Crackling sound on startup until module-suspend-on-idle kicks in

2013-08-25 Thread Peter Ward
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 4.0-6
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When running pulseaudio under my normal user (not in system mode), there
is an initial crackling / white noise which plays until
module-suspend-on-idle kicks in and suspends the device.

In order to workaround this, I’ve added the timeout=0 parameter, which
reduces the problem down to a click, however the noise clearly shouldn’t be
played in the first place.

I’ve attached the output of pulseaudio -v, and please let me know if
there’s any further information I can provide.

(and yes, my $HOME is /local/home/flowblok, there are reasons. :P)

Bug#696137: Wrong handling of pure ITP and pure ITA bug reports by your automatic WNPP script

Hi,

In that specific case, Deepak wrote:
 Bart,
 How are you ?

Yes I am quite busy with my official work, I will not have time till first
week of Feb 2013. If you wanted to take over the package please take it.

Else I will orphan the package.

Then Bart ITAed the package, but the package wasn't adopted.

Since Deepak wrote Else I will orphan the package., I think that orphaning
the package since the ITA was unsuccessful was the correct decision to make.

Generally, I agree that in the RFA - ITA for a long time without action, what
to do with those bugs is unclear. I think that generally, we need either:
- a clearly identified maintainer that is supposed to care for the package
- an indication that nobody apparently cares about a particular package

By turning all ITA to O, we tend to underestimate the caring that a package
receives.
By turning previously RFAed packages, that have been ITAed for a long time,
back to RFA, we tend to overestimate the caring that a package receives.

I think that generally, it's better to be on the safe side from the quality of
Debian POV, rather than be a on the safe side from the strict ownership of
packages POV.

But then that process is slightly flawed, since ITP and ITA should really be
transient states, not states in which packages can end up for 6 months or more.

Bug#720769: some vCard records ignored on import

2013-08-25 Thread Daniel Pocock
Package: icedove
Version: 1.0.12-1
Severity: important

I exported a bunch of vCard (vcf) files from another application and
concatenated them into a single big vcf file, e.g.

cat *.vcf /tmp/all.vcf

I then tried to import into the icedove address book

It seems to ignore the phone numbers in the vCards, but it imports names
and email addresses. No errors are displayed about the data that is
missing.

I was able to import the same .vcf file into Evolution, using both local
and remote (WebDAV) address books.

Here is a sample of one of the vCards (personal details replaced), it
was exported from OpenGroupware:

Bug#720771: missing phone numbers after vCard import

2013-08-25 Thread Daniel Pocock
Package: evolution
Severity: important
Version: 3.4.4-3

I did a bulk import of phone numbers from a .vcf file (multiple vCards
exported by OpenGroupware)

The import appears to succeed

For several records, I notice that in the list view and the preview
panel under the list the business phone number is missing

If I open the record (double click it so the dialog appears), the
business phone number is present

In the vcf files, I notice things like this for a contact with two
business phones:

TEL;TYPE=work;TYPE=pref;TYPE=voice:+44 12345678
TEL;TYPE=work;TYPE=voice:+44 87654321

For that contact, the number +44 87654321 appears in the preview but
both numbers appear in the dialog. For a contact that only has:

TEL;TYPE=work;TYPE=pref;TYPE=voice:+44

then nothing appears in the list or preview, but +44 appears in
the dialog

I suspect the TYPE=pref is involved in the problem

Bug#720775: emacs24-common: sh-learn-buffer-indent fails

2013-08-25 Thread Cristian Ionescu-Idbohrn
Package: emacs24-common
Version: 24.3+1-1.1
Severity: normal

sh-learn-buffer-indent run on a shell script buffer fails with:

sh-learn-buffer-indent: Buffer is read-only: #buffer *indent*

That's because buffer *indent* is a read-only occur-mode buffer,
created by function sh-mark-init (in sh-script.el), called from function
sh-learn-buffer-indent and being written to by function sh-mark-line.

This looks like like an upstream bug (Cc:ed).

I wrote a piece of advice that works around that problem:

(defadvice occur-mode (after occur-mode-buffer-writable activate)
  Make the *indent* buffer writable
  (if (string-equal *indent* (buffer-name))
  (read-only-mode -1)))

Still, the proper solution would be to correct the code in sh-script.el.
I recall sh-learn-buffer-indent worked fine in emacs 23.4, but don't
take my word for it.

Fair enough. I have uploaded proposed patch in Ubuntu, as e.g. at

In terms of RC bugs, the only issues I could see are a couple of

until it's fixed. kdenetwork appears to be tied up with another
transition but AIUI isn't part of the core transition so shouldn't
block the majority of packages from migrating.

IIRC kdenetwork is tied with kde-workspace.

We're now hitting a month since the transition started in unstable.
I'm wary that we don't let perfect be the enemy of perfectly
reasonable here. It's early in the cycle and if any remaining
issues aren't critical then could we get the current set of packages
migrated and work on the final polishing afterwards?

We had (and still have) regressions (from minor to potentially important
as #717040) in kmail. I asked Sune to take a look at bugs, and he did
nothing.

So, given that things are getting stuck because of us, I'm getting
prodded in different channels, different new transitions are coming up,
and I don't have time/experience to debug the aforementioned issues, I
(reluctantly, from my personal POV) ask to unblock kde4libs and let
things migrate.
(You most probably need to either age or remove from testing tagua.)

Hi all,

Sorry for delay but I noticed new version of fontconfig has been
uploaded to unstable and I tested this patch on it and it works without
any modification. Please consider applying it.

OK (both the French and English versions of the Wikipedia article
didn't mention these directories... I've updated them now).

I still think that ldd should be avoided, though.

Bug#720707: RFP: grml-zsh-config -- zsh configuration that ships with the Debian-based grml distro

2013-08-25 Thread Thomas Koch
Hi Axel,

thank you very much for taking this! Your question about how the zshrc will
be provided is so common that I proposed a general solution:

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/soc-coordination/2012-
February/001156.html

In short and for the start I'd say: just put the files under /usr/share/grml-
zsh-config and provide a shell script that adds the necessary symlinks from my
current homedir. It's already a big improvement to have the files in the
archive and to get updates.

Once there is a canonical location for grml-zsh-config I already have my first
wishlist items:

- Integrate vcsh into the prompt

- make it configurable whether the name of the VCS is shown. I use git
exclusively so I'm just interested in the branch name.

Beste Grüße, Thomas

Bug#720782: jack: encoding with flac fails

2013-08-25 Thread Andreas Leha
Package: jack
Version: 3.1.1+cvs20050801-29
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I am not able to encode anything with flac (the default encoder).
Ripping goes fine -- the *.wav files are generated.

In the jack output I get sth like:
,
| track_01: 3.90x [ ] coding failed, err#8
| track_02: 4.69x [ ] coding failed, err#8
| track_03: 5.37x [ ] coding failed, err#8
| track_04: 4.92x [ ] coding failed, err#8
`

In /var/log/messages I see
,
| [57335.810591] traps: flac[16964] trap divide error ip:414a1c sp:7fffb2eadb10
error:0 in flac[40+2d000]

error:0 in flac[40+2d000]
`

So, encoding fails and the *.wav files are not converted to *.flac.

This used to work for me and must be the effect of a recent apt-get upgrade.

BTW: I seem to be not the only one affected:
http://linuxaudio.org/mailarchive/lau/2013/7/22/201049

BTW2: 'flac track_01.wav' works and produces the track_01.flac

Bug#720061: [RFR] templates://snort/{snort.templates,snort-common.templates}

2013-08-25 Thread Christian PERRIER
Please find, for review, the debconf templates and packages descriptions for
the snort source package.

This review will last from Sunday, August 25, 2013 to Wednesday, September 04,
2013.

Please send reviews as unified diffs (diff -u) against the original
files. Comments about your proposed changes will be appreciated.

Your review should be sent as an answer to this mail.

When appropriate, I will send intermediate requests for review, with
[RFRn] (n=2) as a subject tag.

When we will reach a consensus, I send a Last Chance For
Comments mail with [LCFC] as a subject tag.

Finally, a summary will be sent to the review bug report,
and a mail will be sent to this list with [BTS] as a subject tag.

This review is quite light: I indeed have the feeling that I already
came on this package at some (distant) point in the past.

Most changes are switching to double-quotes, the now standardized
common practice by debian-l10n-english.

2013-08-25 Thread Daniel Dehennin
Hello,

With the help of #syslinux, I managed to get a multi-methods network
boot with shared configuration and kernels.

This bug could be closed, maybe something could be installed in
examples/ to document this.

Two things must be done:

- where the loader (*pxelinux.0, boot*.efi) is define the root PATH for

- one configuration file per loader defining the PATH of .c32 modules

I put my configuration, for reference:

Bug#720760: gmusicbrowser: Minor typo in description

2013-08-25 Thread Justin B Rye
Package: gmusicbrowser
Version: 1.1.9-2
Followup-For: Bug #720760

Keita Maehara maeh...@debian.org wrote:
| gmusicbrower is a powerful graphic browser which supports libraries with
 ^missing 's'

It would be a pity to fix that and miss the various other problems
with this package description. Here's a full review:

 Package: gmusicbrowser
[...]
Description: graphic jukebox for large collections of mp3/ogg/flac/mpc files

First problem: graphic as an adjective means vividly pictorial (as
in graphic scenes of carnage). The word you want is graphical.

Second problem: the canonical names for those file formats aren't
all-lowercase (it should be MP3/Ogg/FLAC/MPC files). But I don't
see any evidence that this software offers any special support for MPC
that it doesn't also offer for WAV or anything else supported by
GStreamer.

And anyway, if the idea is that this means all well-established music
formats, it's a bad idea to hard-code the list so that it needs
regular updates - just say music files. Or come to that, instead of
collections of music files I'll make it just music collections.

gmusicbrower is a powerful graphic browser which supports libraries with
a great number of songs (10,000)

Again s/graphic/graphical/. Usually I would say that graphical
browser runs the risk of being misinterpreted as X11 $BROWSER (i.e.
web browser), but I suppose the package's name already disambiguates
that.

A great number of is subtly unidiomatic. 10,000 isn't great, it's
just large; ℯ is a great number!

Using mathematical notation within running text is deprecated; just
say over 10,000.

Missing sentence-final punctuation.

  .
It can use multiple inputs and plays MP3, OGG and flac files; it also
 supports
mass-renaming and mass-retagging of a song library, multiple genres per song,
  ratings and customizable labels

What does it can use multiple inputs mean? I don't see any
equivalent claim on the upstream website or in the documentation.
Does it mean it can play two files simultaneously? I'll leave it
untouched, but I suspect it should be cut.

Next, some more random capitalisation. MP3 is right, but it's Ogg
and FLAC. Saying here that it plays just those three formats is
bizarre, since it implies that contrary to the claims in the synopsis
gmusicbrowser doesn't play MPC files. Shouldn't it be something more
like it has native support for...?

The rest of the paragraph is okay, though while I'm here I'll impose
the standard debian-l10n-english house style, which uses Harvard
comma; here that means adding commas after Ogg and ratings. I
would also promote the semicolon to a stop and add sentence-final
punctuation again.

  .
The window layout is also customizable and it ships natively plugins to use
last.fm, retrieve lyrics, find album pictures and WebContext which, through
the mozilla/webkit engine will display the wikipedia artist's page and search
  lyrics with google.

The first clause here, where the subject is the layout, gets the
paragraph off to a misleading start, since the next clause requires
readers to guess that the subject has changed to gmusicbrowser.
Things would work better if you said gmusicbrowser has a customizable
window layout, and...

Then, ships natively plugins is ungrammatical. But saying that
gmusicbrowser ships plugins is seeing it from an inappropriate
upstream-developer perspective anyway. Users don't want to run
/usr/bin/gmusicbrowser to ship plugins - what you mean is that the
Debian package contains or just comes with plugins.

The whole clause about WebContext has some more leaky syntactic
plumbing, starting with an unintelligible which. Do I correctly
understand that album pictures and WebContext are two different things
that it can use plugins to find? Part of the problem here is that
you're being inconsistent in your use of commas within lists, which is
why I'm standardising on Harvard comma. Other problems with this part
include:
 * through would be clearer as using;
 * Mozilla/WebKit should have their canonical capitalisations;
 * likewise Last.fm, Wikipedia, and Google;
 * it's unclear what the subject of will display is;
 * the Wikipedia artist's page is the wrong word-order;
 * search is intransitive; you have to search for the lyrics.
All of this is complicated enough that I would recommend fencing it
off between parentheses.

My revised version (patch attached):

Bug#720707: RFP: grml-zsh-config -- zsh configuration that ships with the Debian-based grml distro

2013-08-25 Thread Frank Terbeck
Thomas Koch wrote:
thank you very much for taking this! Your question about how the zshrc will
be provided is so common that I proposed a general solution:

 http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/soc-coordination/2012-February/001156.html

In short and for the start I'd say: just put the files under /usr/share/grml-
zsh-config and provide a shell script that adds the necessary symlinks from
 my
current homedir. It's already a big improvement to have the files in the
 archive and to get updates.

Yes, thank you! Not having the add-on configuration in /etc sounds like
the right thing to do, because then things can remain in the hands of
the package system.

Once there is a canonical location for grml-zsh-config I already have my
 first
 wishlist items:

 - Integrate vcsh into the prompt

Grml's zsh setup uses a rather extensible prompt (since the last few
releases). Generally, I'd like to not include too many special purpose
code in grml's main configuration, because it is already quite large and
complex.

There are some facilities to implement special-purpose prompt support
with grml's new prompts, though. There is an example, that adds
virtual-env support:

  http://bewatermyfriend.org/p/2013/003/

Adding support for vcsh should be fairly straight forward. (Support for
it could also be done via vcs_info and its hook subsystem.)

 - make it configurable whether the name of the VCS is shown. I use git
exclusively so I'm just interested in the branch name.

Grml's VCS information is provided by zsh's vcs_info system. That system
is pretty configurable¹ and your wish is already easily solved. You just
need to acknowledge, that grml's setup uses two vcs_info formats: One
for its prompt and the other for setting titles in GNU screen and tmux
based on the currently checked out branch.

  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' formats '[%b] ' 'zsh: %r'
  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' actionformats '[%b|%a] ' 'zsh: %r'

Add colouring to your preference. ;)

That's an interesting case, and I can't reproduce it.
From the output above it looks like config_dir is not set, but I
don't see how this can happen; and it doesn't seem to be Perl 5.18
related.

Anyway, I'm sure Elmar and Axel know their code better and can come
up with some insights :)

Cheers,
gregor

Bug#720793: unmaintained; replace with sandi

2013-08-25 Thread Joey Hess
Package: haskell-dataenc
Severity: normal

dataenc's author was kind enough to let me know it's unmaintained and
give me a patch migrating my program to its replacement, sandi. I assume
he's sending similar patches to other things in hackage that use
dataenc. But sandi is not packaged in Debian yet.

Bug#720743: [firmware-brcm80211] doesn't crash stock unstable 3.10 kernel

2013-08-25 Thread Valerio Passini
Package: firmware-brcm80211
Version: 0.40

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

The crash doesn't happen with the 3.10 kernel in Sid/Unstable but there are
two important differences with my custom 3.10.0 kernel:

1) the version in Debian is actually 3.10.7 (should check if there is any
change in net/wireless/brcm80211)

2) differences in driver's options. In my system the notification LED is
enabled
through GPIO.
i.e.: BCMA_DRIVER_GPIO Y

The fact that this version of the firmware is not compatible with my older
kernel stll holds.

That said, we are tackling few issues/regressions (mostly in
the new pim stack), so could it be possible to hold the
kde4libs migration with a block for now? (It should avoid all
 the rest to migrate too.)

 What's the current status here?

Regarding the rest, I'm sure Sune could give an update of the
 status.

In terms of RC bugs, the only issues I could see are a couple of
FTBFS - tagua and kdenetwork. tagua is leaf, so could be removed
until it's fixed. kdenetwork appears to be tied up with another
transition but AIUI isn't part of the core transition so shouldn't
block the majority of packages from migrating.

Ok, unblocked kde4libs and aged tagua.

Cheers

Luk

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on EC2 VM instances from
Amazon Web Services, using a clean, minimal and up-to-date chroot. Every
failed build was retried once to eliminate random failures.
