I am not too happy to hear that: as far as I know, Debian gives more choice to users for other languages (such as Python, AWK, all GCC languages, ...). I hope this situation will improve in the future. I think that supporting at least a couple of major versions (a more mature one, used as default interpreter, and a more recent bleeding edge one) would be great. Well, choices need people to support them. That's true. With 2 Ruby versions security problems often need 6 different uploads¹ that have to be built and tested, and I prefer to spend only half that time and spend the other half doing other things in Debian. :) ¹ 2 versions x 3 suites (unstable, stable, oldstable) Fair enough, but, still, it would be great to have two supported major versions: it would give people more time to port libraries and applications to a newer Ruby interpreter, while still relying on the more mature one... Anyway, just to be clear: I fully understand your reasoning and I agree that, without more Ruby maintainers, it makes sense to reduce the number of supported major versions. Another important point IMHO is that in the past (2005-2011?), there was a split inside the ruby community about the real stable version: the upstream devs felt it was the 1.9 branch, while everybody was still using 1.8. This is similar to the situation of Python a couple of years ago. But now, this seems to be resolved, and everybody has moved to 2.X, with more gradual improvements and less incompatibility between new upstream releases. So we are much more in a perl5-ish situation, and it doesn't make much sense anymore to support several upstream branches in our stable releases. Probably the major lesson to learn about this, too, is that splitting the community around programming languages into branches (ruby 1.8/1.9, perl 5/6, python 2.X/3.X) is harmful and extremely costly. It runs normal again. This workaround makes the calenders useless when offline. But the offline support in iceowl is obviously broken. Bug#478595: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#478595: French translation of the sysvinit manpages
Sorry for the late reply. The Debian sysvinit just lack the man-power to handle all related the bugs in BTS. :( [Nicolas Francois] I'm opening this bug to ask if you or upstream would accept a patch to include these French manpages. I'm both with upstream and the Debian package. As upstream developer, I would be happy to accept such manual pages. :) The translation was performed using po4a to ease its maintenance. This does not means that sysvinit would have to use po4a at build time, but if the translations get accepted, it would be appreciated if the po4a material was kept to ease future updates. (The manpages can be built in advance) In fact, I would prefer a upstream patch including the use of po4a to maintain translated manual pages. Please send a patch relative to the subversion repository listed on URL: https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/sysvinit to sysvinit-de...@nongnu.org and I'll pick it up from there. We are currently working on a new upstream release with fixes from several distributions, and a translation framework for the manual pages would be great to get included. :) -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#570377: aptitude chooses to remove packages instead of upgrading
Hi, Vincent Lefevre wrote: aptitude sometimes prefers to remove packages instead of upgrading. Which is IMHO fine in general. I though must admit that it seems to do that quite often in Debian Unstable. Chris King wrote: This is a very annoying behavior In Debian Unstable, yes. But it is configurable behaviour, too: Use Aptitude::ProblemResolver::Remove-Level maximum; or Aptitude::ProblemResolver::Hints { reject !~M :UNINST; }; in your apt.conf and you're done. The latter works better for this issue, but no more allows you to choose solutions which remove packages unless you explicitly select them for removal with - in the package list or on the commandline. This can be annoying, too, and is totally unsuited for dist-upgrades between two stable releases. It hence is _NOT_ a general solution, but is very suitable for unattended upgrades of security upates. aptitude-robot uses it for a while now. The first variant is probably better suited for general use case, but can still cause packages to not be upgraded at all due to conflicts with obosolete packages which actually really should be removed. (I think, this is one of the reasons why this issue is not trivial to fix generally without regressions in other fields like dist-upgrades between two stable releases.) which Aptitude didn't exhibit a year or so ago. Hrm, I would be curious which patch introduced that change... Having to hit n twenty times before Aptitude decides to upgrade one package rather than removing 50 is just silly. ... and not necessary at all, even without the above configuration. Bug#618862: Debian Bug#618862: systemd: ignores keyscript in crypttab - a possible solution
On 2013-06-25 17:47, Michael Biebl wrote: Am 25.06.2013 13:13, schrieb Harald Jenny: Dear Michael Biebl, following the systemd survey and discussion I think these mails might be of interest to you concerning possible ways to solve the current issue (not only in Debian but also SuSE/upstream interest). http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2012-June/thread.html#5693 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2012-July/thread.html#5835 I personally don't own such hardware, and I never have userd cryptsetup's keyscript support. So I'm probably not the most qualified to evaluate the situation. That said, reading the upstream discussion, I guess we have 3 options a/ do nothing about it b/ apply the patch from David Härdeman downstream and maintaining it as a downstream patch forever c/ try to implement keyscript support based on the PasswordAgent interface a/ is obviously not very compelling. As for b/, we try to avoid downstream patches as much as possible. Regarding c/, I dunno how much effort that would be. Bringing David into the loop here. Maybe he has some further insight on this matter. I found some time to consider how to solve this and I think I have a pretty good solution that'd require a minimum amount of changes upstream. What I've hacked together is: First, a patch to the askpass binary in cryptsetup (the Debian package, not systemd's own stuff) so that it'll detect that systemd is running, in which case it'll use systemd's own password agent system for requesting a password from the user. Second, a new systemd password agent. It waits for a password request from systemd's own cryptsetup implementation. The password agent then re-parses /etc/crypttab to find the corresponding entry and checks if it includes a keyscript= option. If no keyscript option is present the agent does nothing but if it *is* present, the agent recreates the environment created by the current cryptsetup scripts, launches the keyscript and sends the output back via the appropriate socket provided by systemd. That the changes to askpass and the introduction of the new password agent are unrelated but both are necessary to not break existing keyscripts. askpass is used in keyscripts to get an actual key from the user. The password agent makes sure that systemd's own cryptsetup stuff honors the keyscript. The new agent is not production ready yet (I plan to do some more work on it during FOSDEM), the two most important issues are: a) getting the name of the cryptdev that the password request corresponds to currently involves parsing the prompt message (Please enter passphrase for disk %s!) which is obviously not a real solution... This issue is fixable with minor upstream changes, e.g. by extending the PasswordAgent protocol to add Subsystem=cryptsetup and Target=diskname entries to the ask. file. b) the password agent implementation in systemd doesn't seem to handle binary strings (i.e. strings with '\0'), as can be seen by calls to e.g. strlen()... Whether making it binary safe would be a major change or not is something I haven't researched yet but it seems like a change that should be generally useful upstream... Minor detail: the additional agent could be shipped either in (I have no real preference): a) the cryptsetup package b) as part of the Debian systemd package c) upstream systemd Feedback welcome. Bug#728486: Draft of Resolution for 728486 (lvm/systemd compatibility)
Don Armstrong wrote: Below is the current draft of a resolution to resolve 728486. I have one current comment in the draft which I would like clarified. [CTTE members: please comment/suggest change.] I also expect to change the reference to the patch to a newly updated patch with the changes suggested in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=728486#183. ==BEGIN DRAFT== When systemd is in operation in conjunction with lvm and lvmetad is not in use, lvchange -aay must be called after udevadm --settle which is provided by systemd-udev-settle.service, and before (and after) encrypted devices are configured (cryptsetup.target). ==COMMENT== Is there any case where udevadm --settle would be required after the encrypted devices are configured? Does cryptsetup.target ensure that udev has triggered the appropriate rules for the newly configured encrypted devices? ==END COMMENT== The patch prepared by Michael Stapelberg stapelb...@debian.org in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=728486#163 installs the two systemd unit files necessary to properly configure lvm devices when systemd is running, and additionally configures systemd-tmpfiles.d to create the lockfile directories required by systemd. Therefore, the CTTE: A. Overides the objection of the maintainer of lvm (Bastian Blank wa...@debian.org) to this patch, and directs the maintainer to accept this patch or alternatively, authorizes an NMU to implement this patch. B. Further discussion ==END DRAFT== This draft is 728486_systemd_and_lvm_incompatibility/draft-dla in git. Would it also be possible to add a 3rd option to the ballot to overrule and to use the generator as proposed initially by the systemd maintainers (and upstream)? Using the generator would automatically prevents an unneeded (and expensive) synchronization point (the call to udevadm trigger) during the boot if lvmetad daemon is actually used on the machine. Using Condition in the .service file to test if the lvmetad executable is present on the disk is probably not correct as it can be disabled by the use_lvmetad option in lvm.conf configuration file. The only purpose of the generator, parse this file and react accordingly to the use_lvmetad option. The rational of the generator is explained in the initial commit message at: http://www.redhat.com/archives/lvm-devel/2012-July/msg00072.html Cheers, Laurent Bigonville -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Do we have any other software, that right now forces other to switch the init system? If not, remove GNOME from Debian could be an option (and, may be, a good motivation for upstream to keep away from insane changes, be more LSB-compatible). There is no good reasons to change long-standing Debian policy about alternative inits. Let the people who are interested in making the software work figure out what that entails. Bug#736892: microcode only updated on 2 out of 4 CPUs
On Wed, 29 Jan 2014, Stephen Powell wrote: On Wed, 29 Jan 2014 06:57:39 -0500 (EST), Henrique de Moraes Holschuh wrote: Some processors update per core, not per hardware thread (hardware threads show up as separate cpus in Linux x86/x86-64). When a hardware thread is updated on these processors, it actually updates all hardware threads that share that core. (1) The AMD FX-4300 is actually four cores with one CPU each, not two cores with two logical (hyperthreaded) CPUs each. If in fact it only has two cores, with two logical CPUs each, According to AMD documentation, it has 4 single-threaded cores on two modules, inside a single package. Terminology aside (hardware threads/cpus, cores, modules, packages/sockets, processors, etc), the fact is that, on your AMD FX-4300, updating a hardware thread also updates another hardware-related hardware thread. So, please disregard my use of core for what AMD calls module. (3) I have an example of a hyperthreaded core machine as well. Another machine I own has a 32-bit Intel processor, a Xeon(TM) 2.40 GHz chip, cpu family 15, which has a single core with two threads. A custom 3.11.10 kernel reports two microcode update messages, even with two logical CPUs Some processor models update several hardware threads (cpus) at the same time. Some don't. Newer kernels will notice this at least for AMD processors, and skip already up-to-date threads/cpus. And it will not log anything when it skips a thread/cpu. Also, the behaviour for Intel and AMD needs not be the same: there are different code paths for each processor vendor. a moment, but first I'd like to point out that the information in /proc/cpuinfo for the AMD FX-4300 processor is inconsistent. It reports that there are two cores, yet each processor has a unique core id (0-3). In the information for the processor below, it only reports one core, and the same core id (0) for each logical processor. Same core id on two hardware threads imply SMT siblings (such as in Intel HyperThreads). It is possible that some (all?) versions of the kernel will number some of these topology identifiers in a confusing, and maybe even non-optimal way for some processors: I recall reading something to that effect in LKML not too long ago, but I failed to track it down to post a link right now. -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. Bug#737085: apt: Apt downloads arch all packages from wrong repo/checks wrong checksum
+++ Julian Andres Klode [2014-01-30 08:12 +0100]: On Thu, Jan 30, 2014 at 03:13:16AM +, Wookey wrote: Package: apt Version: 0.9.15 Severity: important In the sources I have my own bootstrap repository containing a lot of (unstable) packages built for arm64, and plain debian unstable and saucy repos apt-get install arch-all-package (that is available in all 3 repos) results in a size mismatch error. It seems that apt is using the checksum from one repo but downloading the package from another. The packages used is just an example it seems to be the same for any arch all package (debian-arm64)# apt-cache policy x11proto-scrnsaver-dev x11proto-scrnsaver-dev: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.2.2-1 Version table: 1.2.2-1 0 500 http://people.debian.org/~wookey/bootstrap/debianrepo2/ debianstrap/main arm64 Packages 500 http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages 500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ saucy/main arm64 Packages Right, and that's a problem, as having two different packages with the same version is not really supported. APT differentiates packages with the same version by CRC-16 hashing the fields Installed-Size Depends Pre-Depends Conflicts Breaks Replaces in order to handle packages where those are the same APT would need to hash size or SHA hash as well, but this fails for installed packages, as this information is not provided in /var/lib/dpkg/status. OK. That makes sense. I see what's going on now. Which of course if why we do -B builds for other architectures and carefully ensure there is only one copy of the arch all packages. The problem is that in order to debootstrap you need all the packages in one repo so leaving the arch all packages in ftp.uk.debian.org means you can't debootstrap if you only uploaded the new-arch 'any' packages to the 'bootstrap' repo. It's also important to test that the arch-all build actually works, and not just the arch-any part so doing those builds and testing the results can be good. It's fine for apt to consider these packages to be functionally equivalent, but it does need to check the correct checksum on download. It seems to me that this can be fixed by either adding size/hash to the hash as you suggest(making them 'different packages', or just separately ensuring that the checksum for the repo/file that was downloaded is used. Apt knows that there is more than one repo source for this package, but doesn't record that there might be more than one checksum? The fact that it can end up choosing one checksum and another source does seem wrong. Perhaps the code/object structure makes it hard to fix this this way and your fix is the only one that makes sense? An alternative would be to change the cache-building algorithms to look at SHA hashes and/or size and create different version entries in the cache if they are present in both versions, but different. SHA Hashes would require all repositories to use the same best checksum algorithm. I think just adding size to the hash would be cheap and easy and would largely solve this problem. Adding the hash would cover a few extra cases where the size came out the same too, but if it's difficult I'd be happy to have this mostly-solved, as it's a situation we normally try to avoid anyway. I am clueless about the apt codebase (and C++ if it's not fairly 'C'-ey) but am prepared to take a stab at this if you give me a clue where to look. thanks for the quick response. With IkiWiki configuration option useragent it's now possible to define a custom string that is used for the value of the User-Agent header. --- IkiWiki.pm |9 + IkiWiki/Plugin/openid.pm |2 +- IkiWiki/Plugin/pinger.pm |2 +- 3 files changed, 11 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/IkiWiki.pm b/IkiWiki.pm index b7080bb..eb48096 100644 --- a/IkiWiki.pm +++ b/IkiWiki.pm @@ -527,6 +527,14 @@ sub getsetup () { safe = 0, # hooks into perl module internals rebuild = 0, }, + useragent = { + type = string, + default = undef, + example = Wget/1.13.4 (linux-gnu), + description = set custom user agent string for outbound HTTP requests e.g. when fetching aggregated RSS feeds, + safe = 0, + rebuild = 0, + }, } sub defaultconfig () { @@ -2301,6 +2309,7 @@ sub useragent () { return LWP::UserAgent-new( cookie_jar = $config{cookiejar}, env_proxy = 1, # respect proxy env vars + agent = $config{useragent}, ); } diff --git a/IkiWiki/Plugin/openid.pm b/IkiWiki/Plugin/openid.pm index d369e30..3b96e4b 100644 --- a/IkiWiki/Plugin/openid.pm +++ b/IkiWiki/Plugin/openid.pm @@ -238,7 +238,7 @@ sub getobj ($$) { my $ua; eval q{use LWPx::ParanoidAgent}; if (! $@) { - $ua=LWPx::ParanoidAgent-new; + $ua=LWPx::ParanoidAgent-new(agent = $config{useragent}); } else { $ua=useragent(); diff --git a/IkiWiki/Plugin/pinger.pm b/IkiWiki/Plugin/pinger.pm index fb0f3ba..b2d54af 100644 --- a/IkiWiki/Plugin/pinger.pm +++ b/IkiWiki/Plugin/pinger.pm @@ -72,7 +72,7 @@ sub ping { my $ua; eval q{use LWPx::ParanoidAgent}; if (!$@) { - $ua=LWPx::ParanoidAgent-new; + $ua=LWPx::ParanoidAgent-new(agent = $config{useragent}); } else { eval q{use LWP}; -- 1.7.9.5 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Funny thing is that we are trying to get things related to FreePascal into one team, so I invite you to have a look at pkg-pascal on Alioth. I'd be happy to maintain doublecmd and doublecmd-help packages as part of the pkg-pascal team. So, please request to be added to the team via the web-interface and subscribe to the e-mail list. I will acknowledge when I receive the request. If upstream of doublecmd is really active, maybe we should drop tuxcmd altogether (it is orphaned). If we do, maybe we could help people migrate in the next release by handling this properly. Would/could we do this even if doublecmd is not a fork of tuxcmd? Difficult question, but I believe the answer is yes. As tuxcmd is currently unmaintained in Debian, and hardly supported upstream, I think it is warranted to request for removal (or depending on the scheme we intent to follow, an adoption). If doublecmd is a viable replacement of tuxcmd, we can help Debian users to find a replacement which can be supported from the Debian point of view. I must admit, I haven't fully figured out how we should do this the right way™. Could you investigate (if you have the time of course) if tuxcmd has features that are still lacking in doublecmd? Is this still required, seeing that doublecmd is not a fork of tuxcmd? If you feel my response above is not fully ridiculous, the answer is yes. Upstream does not provide a glm.pc. Which other distros provide a glm.pc file? It was an assumption because LibreOffice is looking for one (development branch since 23 December 2013). I assumed that the developer that made that had it working on his machine, which thus had a glm.pc file. OTOH, now that I think of it, it is more probable that the LibreOffice developer only tested the use the bundled copy of glm scenario, not use the glm provided by the distro. This changes util/grub.d/10_linux.in to put the selected init bootflag in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. If there is a better approach, please let me know, and I'll try to improve the patch. You're missing kFreeBSD and Hurd support here, FWIW. However, I don't think this should require changing grub2 at all. Nowadays we support other packages dropping files into /etc/default/grub.d/*.cfg, which are read after /etc/default/grub and can modify the various variables that are exported by grub-mkconfig to /etc/grub.d/ scripts. Could you investigate taking this approach in init-select instead? In this case, I think that would be better than adding another entry to grub2's already large and unwieldy patch stack. Bug#736678: grub2: support init boot flag selection
Hi Colin, Colin Watson wrote: On Sat, Jan 25, 2014 at 07:36:05PM -0500, Michael Gilbert wrote: I've been working on a system that allows the user to easily make their own init system selection: http://packages.qa.debian.org/i/init-select.html I've just finished working on a patch for grub (see attached) to support init-select's /etc/default/init conffile. This changes util/grub.d/10_linux.in to put the selected init bootflag in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. If there is a better approach, please let me know, and I'll try to improve the patch. As already mentioned to Michael in another bug report, I initially expected his package init-select to be a pure grub2 config implementation. My idea was to modify 10_linux (preferably upstream) to iterate over all installed init systems, i.e. list each combination of kernel and init system in the menu. This would obsolete Michael's init-select in some way, but I suspect he wouldn't be mad about it. :-) I'm though quite sure this variant can't be implemented externally as it needs to add a loop inside 10_linux. And yes, I know that would boost the length of the kernel list in grub. Which is perfectly fine for me (c.f. #690538 ;-). I may come up with a patch for that in the future if I get it once working. This worked fine until we upgraded our machines to Debian wheezy; since then, webalizer no longer works. The attached patch adds unfolding of the header body. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libmimelib1c2a depends on: ii libc6 2.13-38 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.2-5 ii libstdc++6 4.7.2-5 libmimelib1c2a recommends no packages. libmimelib1c2a suggests no packages. diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/field.cpp mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/field.cpp 277a278,291 DwString DwField::Unfold (const DwString aStr) { const char *str = aStr.c_str(); DwString out; while (*str != 0) { if (*str != '\r' *str != '\n') { out += *str; } str++; } return out; } 284c298 mFieldBodyStr = parser.mBody; --- mFieldBodyStr = this-Unfold(parser.mBody); diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/mimelib/field.h mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/mimelib/field.h 105a106,108 DwString Unfold(const DwString aStr); //Unfold method for unwrapping headers diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/field.cpp mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/field.cpp 277a278,291 DwString DwField::Unfold (const DwString aStr) { const char *str = aStr.c_str(); DwString out; while (*str != 0) { if (*str != '\r' *str != '\n') { out += *str; } str++; } return out; } 284c298 mFieldBodyStr = parser.mBody; --- mFieldBodyStr = this-Unfold(parser.mBody); diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/mimelib/field.h mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/mimelib/field.h 105a106,108 DwString Unfold(const DwString aStr); //Unfold method for unwrapping headers diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/field.cpp mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/field.cpp 277a278,291 DwString DwField::Unfold (const DwString aStr) { const char *str = aStr.c_str(); DwString out; while (*str != 0) { if (*str != '\r' *str != '\n') { out += *str; } str++; } return out; } 284c298 mFieldBodyStr = parser.mBody; --- mFieldBodyStr = this-Unfold(parser.mBody); diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/mimelib/field.h mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/mimelib/field.h 105a106,108 DwString Unfold(const DwString aStr); //Unfold method for unwrapping headers diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/field.cpp mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/field.cpp 277a278,291 DwString DwField::Unfold (const DwString aStr) { const char *str = aStr.c_str(); DwString out; while (*str != 0) { if (*str != '\r' *str != '\n') { out += *str; } str++; } return out; } 284c298 mFieldBodyStr = parser.mBody; --- mFieldBodyStr = this-Unfold(parser.mBody); diff -r mimelib1-1.1.4-2/mimelib/mimelib/field.h mimelib1-1.1.4-2.fixed/mimelib/mimelib/field.h 105a106,108 DwString Unfold(const DwString aStr); //Unfold method for unwrapping headers
Bug#737130: apt-ftparchive: multicompress sets wrong file modes on files written using an external compression program
Package: apt Version: 0.9.15 Severity: normal Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch trusty After we upgraded the Ubuntu master archive from lucid to precise, we noticed that Translation-en.bz2 was being written with mode 0600 rather than 0644, which broke our mirroring. Bug#737132: Regression: wheezy initrd loads md raids only if defined on mdadm.conf even with INITRDSTART='all'
Package: mdadm Version: 3.2.5-5 Severity: normal I'm attempting to restore a backup of a root partition on a set of brand new disks (md raid1). On Wheezy, initramfs doesn't show md devices if they are not defined in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf even if on /etc/default/mdadm there is INITRDSTART='all'. Such problem may be caused by a regression (squeezy or wheezy) because on lenny I've been always did such task without problem. I see initrdstart_notinconf: false on package configuration template but seems no more used, so it shouldn't be the problem here, right? -- Package-specific info: --- mdadm.conf CREATE owner=root group=disk mode=0660 auto=yes HOMEHOST system MAILADDR root --- /etc/default/mdadm INITRDSTART='all' AUTOSTART=true AUTOCHECK=true START_DAEMON=true DAEMON_OPTIONS=--syslog VERBOSE=false --- /proc/mdstat: Personalities : [raid1] md1 : active raid1 sda3[0] sdb3[1] 72610624 blocks super 1.2 [2/2] [UU] md0 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdb2[1] 5237760 blocks super 1.2 [2/2] [UU] unused devices: none --- /proc/partitions: major minor #blocks name 8 327843840 sdc 8 337843809 sdc1 1101048575 sr0 80 78125000 sda 81 203793 sda1 825241873 sda2 83 72676279 sda3 8 16 78125000 sdb 8 17 203793 sdb1 8 185241873 sdb2 8 19 72676279 sdb3 905237760 md0 91 72610624 md1 --- LVM physical volumes: LVM does not seem to be used. --- mount output sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) proc on /proc type proc (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) udev on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,relatime,size=10240k,nr_inodes=1538866,mode=755) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,gid=5,mode=620,ptmxmode=000) tmpfs on /run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,size=1232452k,mode=755) /dev/disk/by-label/ROOT on / type ext4 (rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,user_xattr,barrier=1,data=ordered) tmpfs on /run/lock type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,size=5120k) tmpfs on /run/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,size=2464900k) /dev/md1 on /mnt/data type ext4 (rw,relatime,user_xattr,barrier=1,data=ordered) rpc_pipefs on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw,relatime) --- initrd.img-3.2.0-4-amd64: 67890 blocks cd4e75e3374c6a6564ba77d48b90fc6a ./sbin/mdadm e3f1b1cbf4f14eb505dee4fde52ba461 ./conf/mdadm a560b1c713f6f2bf42abcd9dade35d6a ./scripts/local-top/mdadm 00ba05924de21e62cc6de9d08b35dfd7 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/linear.ko bda6277e9db3f569eb42f95c85775f49 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/raid456.ko 1d2672b5df3a8e47b3db5042b7a9c318 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/raid1.ko 3baf54cf0178e9fdd57654874f214f7f ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/raid0.ko b99e69beaba4fe3e98aa3175eb1fe307 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/multipath.ko a8ac2caaa941e9271a1a9f7cd9ed8137 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/dm-mod.ko 958dd4317c069dd2a1fa13be1a37d58d ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/raid10.ko 16f27e58797a804ed1ed084e7c99bb28 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/dm-crypt.ko 9c74115ed02be09fff40ec70d7cf61c8 ./lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/md/md-mod.ko 1fc18795ef0c2f45897047d55c4279d5 ./etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf --- initrd's /conf/conf.d/md: no conf/md file. --- /proc/modules: dm_crypt 22586 0 - Live 0xa0247000 dm_mod 63645 1 dm_crypt, Live 0xa0256000 raid1 30714 2 - Live 0xa016b000 md_mod 87742 3 raid1, Live 0xa0135000 raid_class 12832 1 mpt2sas, Live 0xa006a000 scsi_mod 162269 8 sg,sr_mod,sd_mod,usb_storage,mpt2sas,raid_class,scsi_transport_sas,libata, Live 0xa0007000 --- /var/log/syslog: --- volume detail: /dev/sda: MBR Magic : aa55 Partition[0] :15624 sectors at1 (type ee) -- /dev/sda1 is not recognised by mdadm. /dev/sda2: Magic : a92b4efc Version : 1.2 Feature Map : 0x0 Array UUID : e10e3244:83e2aa20:b6fccb1c:b051213f Name : system-install:0 Creation Time : Wed Jan 29 12:29:01 2014 Raid Level : raid1 Raid Devices : 2 Avail Dev Size : 10475554 (5.00 GiB 5.36 GB) Array Size : 5237760 (5.00 GiB 5.36 GB) Used Dev Size : 10475520 (5.00 GiB 5.36 GB) Data Offset : 8192 sectors Super Offset : 8 sectors State : clean Device UUID : e9da4d4a:faca6be4:172122ba:9eaf017a Update Time : Thu Jan 30 14:43:06 2014 Checksum : e2f7d97e - correct Events : 19 Device Role : Active device 0 Array State : AA ('A' == active, '.' == missing) -- /dev/sda3: Magic : a92b4efc Version : 1.2 Feature Map : 0x0 Array UUID : 54894ab9:bd9a072c:4dd5bf3b:43a43f9a Name : system-install:1 Creation Time : Wed Jan 29 12:29:02 2014 Raid Level : raid1 Raid Devices : 2 Avail Dev Size :

Bug#736678: grub2: support init boot flag selection
On Thu, Jan 30, 2014 at 02:54:28PM +0100, Axel Beckert wrote: Colin Watson wrote: However, I don't think this should require changing grub2 at all. Personally I would think that would be a pretty cumbersome thing to present in the boot menu. I think I prefer Michael's approach of selecting this in userspace for the next boot; you can always edit the boot entry and add init= if something goes wrong. We don't have to present *every* possibility in the boot menu, and given poor support for combinatorial explosion it's probably better if we don't try. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
