Bug#743471: [ITR] templates://irker/{irker.templates}
Dear Debian maintainer, The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf templates used in irker. This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with users and its aims are: - to improve the use of English in all debconf templates; - to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent; - to encourage more translations of templates. Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the distribution. The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and Debian translators. The details of the process are given in http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess. I will act as the coordinator of this activity for irker. The first step of the process is to review the debconf source template file(s) of irker. This review will start on Thursday, April 10, 2014, or as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to carry out this process. All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration with you, and, unless you explicitly ask for it, no upload nor NMU will happen for irker. If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so, and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle. Thank you for your attention. -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#743833: gnat-4.6: no longer buildable on buildds
package: gnat-4.6 version: 4.6.4-2 severity: serious Hi, It seems gnat-4.6 is no longer buildable on buildds: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=gnat-4.6 This is probably caused by the change (in 4.6.4-2) of gnat-4.6-base from arch any to arch all. The strict versioned dependency of gnat-4.6 on gnat-4.6-base makes gnat-4.6 uninstallable on every arch that's no longer in sync with the arch any package, so it's no longer possible to build gnat-4.6 with (an older version of) gnat-4.6 on those archs. Bug#743834: apt-listchanges: shows error from call to dpkg-architecture
Package: apt-listchanges Version: 2.85.13 Severity: minor Hi! When you install apt-listchanges it currently depends on dpkg-dev which in turn Recommends: gcc | c-compiler, build-essential, ... It seems that apt-listchanges is calling dpkg-architecture (it didn't do that on previous versions) and that dpkg-architecture is sending out a message which if seen on an unattended-upgrade run looks like you have an error on your apt setup or on your system. This is what my unattended-upgrade mail looked like: Leyendo lista de cambios... sh: 1: gcc: not found dpkg-architecture: aviso: couldn't determine gcc system type, falling back to default (native compilation) apt-listchanges: Enviando por correo root: apt-listchanges: lista de cambios para ara2 Preconfiguring packages ... calling dpkg-architecture with 2/dev/null would solve this cosmetic problem, but I'm not sure that's the best solution for this problem. Hope this bugreport helps us avoid warnings from users or later bugreports about false broken systems, ... I'm omiting the packages info as I'm running bugreport on a machine that is not affected (running stable) while the affected machine is running testing and it is an amd64 based machine which doesn't have any development environment (only dpkg-dev pulled by apt-listchanges). You may need to update your locally-modified /etc/idmapd.conf, to pick up this new default, since /etc/init.d/nfs-common will no longer mount /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs for you. Package: prosody Version: 0.8.2-4+deb7u1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? After updating to 0.8.2-4+deb7u1 (because of DSA-2895-1), client logins fail with the above error when compression is active. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Disabling compression on clients allows them to log in. * What outcome did you expect instead? Bug#735563: Bug #735563: udev: 70-persistent-net.rules not updated when adding or changing NIC
On Sat 05 Apr 2014 at 19:29:51 -0400, Stephen Powell wrote: In the past, the init scripts contained a work-around for this problem by re-directing output to a temporary file. Originally, this file was called /dev/.udev/tmp-rules--70-persistent-net.rules. In later releases, the name of the temporary file was changed to /run/udev/tmp-rules--70-persistent-net.rules. Once the permanent root file system was mounted read/write, the temporary file was appended to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. This logic is either absent or incomplete in jessie. Try this. cd /etc grep -r tmp-rules . Compare the output on a wheezy system and a jessie system. I suspect that this is at least part of the problem. A way to fix this bug would be to implement Predictable Network Interface Names. The case is well made at at http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/ and the Debian changelog does say Keep the old persistent network interface naming scheme for now The for now implies that the old way may not be around for ever in Debian; net.ifnames=0 seems to work for those who want to remain with it. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#717329: sysv-rc has circular Depends on sysvinit-utils
[Bill Allombert] Hello Debian sysvinit maintainers, Hi. There is a circular dependency between sysv-rc and sysvinit-utils: sysv-rc :Depends: sysvinit-utils (= 2.86.ds1-62) sysvinit-utils:Depends: sysv-rc (= 2.88dsf-24) | file-rc (= 0.8.16) Circular dependencies involving shared libraries are known to cause problems during upgrade between stable releases, so we should try to get rid of them. I was planning to get rid of this, but am unable to figure out where it come from. Might be my fever induced head, but I see the sysvinit - sysv-rc dependency on URL: https://packages.debian.org/unstable/sysvinit-utils , but am completely unable to find it in the git source: pkg-sysvinit/sysvinit-git$ grep sysv-rc debian/control sysv-rc | file-rc, Package: sysv-rc Suggests: sysv-rc-conf, bum sysvinit-utils (= 2.88dsf-50), sysv-rc | file-rc, pkg-sysvinit/sysvinit-git$ And the git history do not show when it disappeared either, so I am very confused. Anyone able to understand what happened with this dependency? I believe the fix is for sysvinit-utils to not depend on sysv-rc. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#741686: linux-image-3.13-1-amd64: systemd-udevd kills long running mptsas module initailization, resulting in kernel oops
Hi, This regression is fairly complicated and it's high impact, as mptsas is being used to drive fairly popular controllers, including the entry-level ones in several generations of Dell PowerEdge servers. We've been debugging this for a while now over at Ubuntu's Launchpad[1] and the issue has been subsequently been raised on both the linux-scsi[2] systemd mailing lists[3]. In essence, there are four different behaviors/bugs here: 1) The kthread_create() semantics have changed in 3.13 with 786235ee by making kthreads killable. Not a bug on its own, but it's a breaks previously working userspace configuration kind of bug. Ubuntu has reverted this patch for trusty as a workaround. 2) mptsas, to probe the SAS bus, spawns a kthread that takes more than 30s to complete. The consensus on the list AIUI is that it's a bug and it should not take that long. 3) systemd-udev by default sends SIGKILL to kthreads that have been running for more than 30s. systemd developers do not consider this a bug but an intended behavior and refuse to fix this issue. Adding OPTIONS+=event_timeout=120 to the udev config would probably workaround this. 4) Unrelated to the bug at hand, mptsas is buggy in the error handling codepath, when the kthread spawning fails. It tries to clean up by dereferencing a NULL pointer and hence the kernel oopses, while otherwise it'd just continue running, just without any mptsas devices present. I've made an analysis of the buggy codepath on comment #27 on the LP bug above. This has always been a bug, it's just that that codepath was untested until now. The end result is that this regression is somewhere in the limbo land between kernel/systemd for the two features (1)/(2) that are valid on their own but reveal a regression in combination with (3) and each other. Issue (2) seems like a real bug and the root cause here, but one that probably can't be easily fixed in a point release -- I don't think it hasn't even been fixed in master yet. Issue (4) is easily fixable but it's orthogonal and not going to solve the real problem here. It will just downgrade this from an oops to just a system with no disk drives but an otherwise working kernel. Alternative (2) would allow users (if any) to decrypt/migrate their data. Hi, If something Debian-only is to be done with this package to keep it available, it could be disabling encryption, together with a descriptive error message. This would be a minimal intervention and have the advantages of (1) and (2). This should be documented in the package description and would allow users to decrypt already encrypted data (you never know where that may appear), but not to encrypt. Bug#741686: linux-image-3.13-1-amd64: systemd-udevd kills long running mptsas module initailization, resulting in kernel oops
On Mon, 2014-04-07 at 13:02 +0300, Faidon Liambotis wrote: Hi, This regression is fairly complicated and it's high impact, as mptsas is being used to drive fairly popular controllers, including the entry-level ones in several generations of Dell PowerEdge servers. No, kthread_create() itself is killable. 2) mptsas, to probe the SAS bus, spawns a kthread that takes more than 30s to complete. The consensus on the list AIUI is that it's a bug and it should not take that long. kthread_create() spawns a thread, it doesn't wait for the thread to complete (what would be the point of creating a thread, then?). So this hang in kthread_create() needs to be understood. 3) systemd-udev by default sends SIGKILL to kthreads that have been running for more than 30s. systemd developers do not consider this a bug but an intended behavior and refuse to fix this issue. Adding OPTIONS+=event_timeout=120 to the udev config would probably workaround this. systemd-udev will kill its own child process, which is stuck in kthread_create(). Right. No sign of it, but SCSI bug fixes never seem to get applied quickly. Ben. Issue (4) is easily fixable but it's orthogonal and not going to solve the real problem here. It will just downgrade this from an oops to just a system with no disk drives but an otherwise working kernel. -- Ben Hutchings Sturgeon's Law: Ninety percent of everything is crap. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Have you configured fancontrol to control the fan or did you leave the BIOS of you computer handling that (which is fine if it worked with 3.12)? Thanks for your answer. For the Bios i can't answer at your question, I do'nt see in the Bios HP anything about leaving kernel control the fan. fancontrol was never configured because pwmconfig does not work, so fancontrol is installed but not configured. At start there is a message saying that fancontrol is not started because not configured. I observe in 3.12 the fan works smoothly and in an continuous way, in 3.13 by in blow. in 3.12 the temp6 indicator given by sensors evolves during the session and the speed of the fan also. in 3.13 the temp6 indicator doe's not evolve during the session and kept the value of start low if the computer is cold and high if the computer is hot at start and then the fan works continuously. With these observation i think that the temp6 indicator is very important for the speed of the fan. Do you think i must remove fancontrol ? If you don't use fancontrol and that just switch from kernel 3.12 to 3.13 causes this issue, it is definitely a kernel issue. It is very likely to be the following upstream bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71711 I am therefore reassigning the bug to the linux package. Thanks. I think you are right. Just make sure you target squeeze-security, wheezy-security, you follow the versioning schema, set urgency=high, make no other change and upload to security-master.d.o. Can you do that? Thanks. Bug#740504:
Correct me if I got this wrong, but the bug in question is supposed to have existed in upstream until 1.3.4? I built several ISOs of our Ubuntu Privacy Remix live project using upstream xorriso 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 So far I have not seen any UEFI test machine which failed booting from USB drive prepared with these ISOs. Just to be sure, I will do again with 1.3.6 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

On Apr 07, 2014, at 03:09 PM, Matthias Klose wrote: This still doesn't say anything about how the downloaded pip behaves together with the system python3. Does it allow installation of modules into the system python3 path? which one, /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages or /usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages? Afics the patch doesn't address using the system provided python3-pip. Or am I missing something. If you apt-get install python3-pip and then: $ pip3 install nose2 f.e. as non-root, you'll get the expected permission denied error: error: could not create '/usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages/nose2': Permission denied If you sudo that, then everything gets installed into the right place: ls /usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages/ __pycache__/ nose2/ nose2-0.4.7.egg-info/ six-1.3.0.egg-info/ six.py You also cannot run ensurepip as non-root (outside of a venv) because you will also get a permission denied. If you sudo -m ensurepip, you will get things installed into /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages. That's unfortunate, but it seems like you have to willfully try to break your system in order to do that. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Bug#732068: gnome-disk-utility: Can't format external USB partition / device

The default behaviour must not install into /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages by default.
