but I find it strange as this code built in unstable a few days ago.
Anyone got a clue what changed in the mean time? Is this rebuild
using a different linker than the one used by the autobuilders?

Bug#768733: winff: FTBFS in jessie: javaldx failed!

2014-11-09 Thread Paul Gevers
Control: forcemerge 759980 -1

Hi Lucas,

I really appreciate the work you put into testing the buildablility of
the archive, but you already reported this issue before, and we were not
able to pinpoint if the issue was with your setup. I have no reason to
believe that the package will not build on the buildd's.

If anything, I believe this bug needs to be reassigned to the Java
Runtime Environment that YOU have installed. But as I don't know which
one it is, YOU have to either tell me (so I can test and reassign) or
YOU have to reassign.

Hi Alexandre,

can you please have a look into this? Please not that the freeze rules
do not allow fixing this in a new upstream version but we rather need to
find a minimal patch. If you do not have a better idea skipping the
affected tests to solve this issue.

Kind regards

Bug#768775: wrong spaces in package description between paragraphs

Dear Maintainer,

in DDTP I see:

note the extra spaces between the 1st line and the 3th. I think these
would be two paragraphs, but with spaces before the dot they are seen as
only one paragraphs.

I think that the 2nd line dot must be at line start and the correct one is:

If several display managers are installed (for example gdm3 and slim),

My best guess is that some -lm entry is missing, as rint() is in libm,
but I find it strange as this code built in unstable a few days ago.
Anyone got a clue what changed in the mean time?

No, sorry.

Is this rebuild using a different linker than the one used by the
 autobuilders?

I don't think so. It's not entirely impossible that my chroot is
slightly broken.

If you still have your log from your unstable upload around, it would be
interesting to diff it against mine.

Bug#768776: systemd wakes up CIFS/network drives too early

2014-11-09 Thread dAgeCKo

Package: systemd
Version: 208-8
Severity: normal
Debian: Testing amd64
Regression: Yes

Since systemd, my CIFS drives are woken up early at the boot time, when
all the local filesystems are mounted. So this is one of the first
operations done during boot.

This results in CIFS drives not to be automatically mounted at boot time.

This is a regression since it was not the case before jessie switched to
systemd.

I'll remove the files manually since the system boots via grub anyway,

Bug#761670: [Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#761670: impossible to bootstrap build of node-jake and node-utilities: (build-)dependency loop

2014-11-09 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
severity 761670 important
thanks

Quoting Thomas Goirand (2014-09-15 18:20:43)
Trying to do a bunch of backports, I came across this issue.

 node-utilities build-depends: node-jake
 node-jake depends: node-utilities

So, it's impossible to build node-utilities, because it needs
node-jake, which cannot be installed, because it depends on
 node-utilities, which isn't build.

This cycle has to be broken, otherwise it makes it very hard for
porters to bootstrap the rebuild of node-utilities node-jake.

I agree this is a bug and it needs correcting. I disagree, however,
that it is so important that it is better to not ship Jessie with this
bug than to ship Jessie with this unfixed.

Hence lowering severity.

Bug#761149: debsources: allow redirects to package versions based on suite/codename

2014-11-09 Thread Jason Pleau
Hello !

I have spent some time on this; it seems to work well on my local
install of debsources. However I am not sure how to tackle
stable/testing/unstable aliases to wheezy/jessie/sid respectively.

@ Stefano, do you have a suggestion on how I could achieve this?

For example, /src/linux/stable/ should redirect to /src/linux/wheezy/.
But this should not be hardcoded, since stable will need to redirect to
jessie eventually.

I have attached a patch of my work so far

Cheers

Bug#768651: libaudio2: fails to update - trying to overwrite shared '/usr/share/doc/libaudio2/changelog.Debian.gz'

2014-11-09 Thread Michael Franzl
I can confirm this. I just ran apt-get dist-upgrade in Debian Jessie. My
output:

Preparing to unpack .../libaudio2_1.9.4-1+b1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking libaudio2:amd64 (1.9.4-1+b1) over (1.9.4-1) ...

 trying to overwrite shared
'/usr/share/doc/libaudio2/changelog.Debian.gz', which is different from
other instances of package libaudio2:amd64

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libaudio2_1.9.4-1+b1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Adding the -f option didn't help.

Bug#768724: auctex: FTBFS in jessie: build-dependency not installable: emacs23

2014-11-09 Thread Davide G. M. Salvetti
  LN == Lucas Nussbaum [2014-11-9]

LN Source: auctex
LN Version: 11.87-2
LN Severity: serious
LN Tags: jessie sid
LN User: debian...@lists.debian.org
LN Usertags: qa-ftbfs-20141108 qa-ftbfs
LN Justification: FTBFS in jessie on amd64

LN Hi,

LN During a rebuild of all packages in jessie (in a jessie chroot, not a
LN sid chroot), your package failed to build on amd64.

LN Relevant part (hopefully):

[...]

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
sbuild-build-depends-auctex-dummy : Depends: emacs23 but it is not
 installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
 apt-get failed.

Hi Lucas,

I do no quite understand: auctex Build-Dependes-Indep has emacs23 |
emacs24 | emacs-snapshot, of which emacs24 is installable in jessie.
What's the relevance of emacs23 (and emacs-snapshot) not being in
jessie?

I can remove emacs23 for jessie, but I would like to keep emacs-snapshot
for people who might want to rebuild auctex on their system and have but
emacs-snapshot installed.

N.B.: emacs-snapshot is not in Debian, but there are repositories for it
and AFAIK people do use it.

This is intentional. All packages having such an error with
 SSLv3_client_method, SSLv3_server_method and SSLv3_method should
get a bug filed against them to stop using those functions.

But this requires a package rename and a library transition.

 Closes: #768266 (Severity: serious; RC)

In addition to fixing the above bug, the update also applies a patch to
enable TLS. The previous package used SSLv3 only, which is no longer
appropriate. Some of the tests in the test suite failed without the
patch because Debian's openssl 1.0.1j-1 has disabled SSLv3. With the
 patch the test suite passes.

This test failure has since been reported as bug #768722

Unblocking this update will therefore also resolve that bug for the
release.

Manually reset sound levels (particularly Surround volume) on start-up.

* What was the outcome of this action?

I expected for the Surround volume to be saved and restored on restart,

Does this behaviour depend at all on whether systemd or sysvinit is in used?

 I'm using sysvinit.

I'd welcome any suggestions on debugging this.

The issue went on-and-off over a lot of time, and in the end I've given up on
trusting kmail2 with my read/unread marks; so it was hard to me to answer

That said, in the last week there seem to be no spurious duplicates or unread

 LN Hi,

LN During a rebuild of all packages in jessie (in a jessie chroot, not a
LN sid chroot), your package failed to build on amd64.

 LN Relevant part (hopefully):

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

N.B.: emacs-snapshot is not in Debian, but there are repositories for it
and AFAIK people do use it.

sbuild (which is used on the buildds) only uses the first alternatives
in build-dependencies in order to provide reproducible builds.

eagle Build-Depends on libjpeg62-dev which is now only a virtual

Also this seems to prevent cruft removal of the old libjpeg62-dev

Hi,

I'd like to upload wxglade/0.6.8-2.2 as a NMU to
testing-proposed-updates to fix RC bug #766743. I'm suggesting an
upload to t-p-u because the version of wxglade in sid contains changes
that don't look suitable for jessie at this point (among other things,
a new upstream release); I just cherrypicked the relevant changes from
the package in sid (where this bug is marked as fixed).

AFAIK it's not possible to upload a package to the delayed queue for
t-p-u, so George, I've cc-ed you in this unblock request; please shout
if you don't want me to upload this for some reason.

Bug#685878: Two years later and still no netatalk3 in jessie?

JFTR, I'm at 3.1.6.

The whole situation reminds me of wine, where Debian shipped the same
outdated version for multiple releases.

Even downstream distributions are suffering:

http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/23985/why-is-netatalk-not-updated

I'd say get some devs behind this, call the package netatalk3 and ship
it in parallel. I had it running for months, upstream had worked on it
for years, it's not that this is bleeding edge or untested.

jessie without netatalk3 would be embarrassing at best, but more
importantly, it would be frustrating for everyone who wants to use their
Linux file servers as a time machine backup.

CC debian-devel for additional momentum. Please stop CCing this bug in
case this turns into another bike shedding discussions on the ML.

Cheers

This is surely the wrong place. All the other translations are under

Bug#768788: Recent installer versions using the wrong GPT partition type GUID for EFI System Partition

2014-11-09 Thread Steve McIntyre
Package: partmen-efi
Severity: serious
Tags: d-i

Not sure if partman-efi is the right place for this bug to be filed,
but it's where things are showing up. Maybe parted is a better place?

Older versions of the installer (up to and including at least jessie
d-i alpha 1, 2014-03-18) use the correct GUID for an EFI system
partition on GPT, C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B.

Later versions (including jessie d-i beta 1, 2014-08-13) are using
0FC63DAF-8483-4772-8E79-3D69D8477DE4, which is Linux filesystem
data. This is wrong and will cause installation failures on some
machines if they're conforming correctly to the UEFI spec. See [1] for
more information.

Using snapshot.d.o, it looks like the most likely cause of the
breakage is the switch from parted 2 to parted 3. I'm looking deeper
now.

Well, I can't reproduce this in sid (I just tried again), so I doubt a
bit that this is a genuine issue in jessie and not just an underpowered
build host. On the other hand, your build log has a couple of FAIL test
cases:

|FAIL: test_extracharges.sh
|FAIL: test_dft_sparse.sh
|FAIL: test_hf_blsz1.sh
|FAIL: test_lr_exc_hf.sh
|FAIL: test_uhf.sh
|FAIL: test_tdhf_dynamics.sh
|FAIL: test_gradient.sh

I don't see any failures, so in theory the output of those test cases
would be interesting, but I guess it would be difficult to access those?

Bug#768791: Default to 'make -O' for sane output on parallel builds please

2014-11-09 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: debhelper
Version: 9.20140228
Severity: wishlist

On parallel builds the output from multiple targets gets all mixed up
making them basically impossible to read. In make 4 there is a new
option that helps with this:

   -O[type], --output-sync[=type]
When running multiple jobs in parallel with -j, ensure the output
of each job is collected together rather than interspersed with
output from other jobs. If type is not specified or is target the
output from the entire recipe for each target is grouped together.
If type is line the output from each command line within a recipe
is grouped together. If type is recurse output from an entire
recursive make is grouped together. If type is none output syn-
chronization is disabled.

This uses tempfiles to buffer the output so it does use some extra
resources. But anyone doing parallel builds should have enough ram for
the whole output to stay in ram and the overhead to be inconsequential.

Please add -O to the make options in debhelper (if make 4 is used).

MfG
Goswin

Bug#768651: possible workaround?

2014-11-09 Thread Egon Willighagen
Hi all,

I just had a look a the source package, that but is beyond my
capabilities and available time to learn all the things in this nas
package.

In addition to binNMUs, the problem also shows up for multiarch
environments, like mine. For example, because you have i386 Skype
installed on a amd64 system (my situation).

As a workaround, I moved aside the :i386 copy of the changelog:

sudo mv /usr/share/doc/libaudio2/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libaudio2/changelog.Debian.i386.gz

I have not idea about side effects of this, but at least made apt-get
-f install continue again.

Bug#768795: git-all: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE

2014-11-09 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: git-all
Version: 1:2.1.3+next.20141103-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files
over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other
packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a
symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty)
directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be
detected by dpkg.

This was observed on the following upgrade paths:

  sid - experimental

For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both
packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are
upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets
removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too,
including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile

For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen.

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.
See in particular the end of point 4 in
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands
'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.2)
to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript.
See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details.

From the attached log (usually somewhere in the middle...):

1m19.6s ERROR: FAIL: silently overwrites files via directory symlinks:
  /usr/share/doc/git/html/git-subtree.html (git-man) !=
/usr/share/doc/git-doc/git-subtree.html (git-doc)

1m21.9s ERROR: FAIL: debsums reports modifications inside the chroot:

cheers,

Andreas

A flexible and scriptable password generator which generates strong

The attribution is misleading. While xkcd has popularized this way of
getting password, it was previously known as diceware:
 http://world.std.com/~reinhold/diceware.html

It would be nice to mention that.

Also, the provided list of words is quite large and may use long words
and derivative which may make the password more complicate to
memorize. For example, there are both acknowledgment and
acknowledgement. The original list of words from diceware is 7776
words long which provides a 90bit security for a 7-word passphrase.

Bug#768796: unblock: proxytunnel/1.9.0+svn250-5

2014-11-09 Thread Julian Gilbey
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

Please unblock package proxytunnel

An improved fix for important bug #767301 - my original fix restricted
to TLS v1.0, whereas this new patch allows any version of TLS. (There
is a discussion of this in the bug report.) Sorry for this second
unblock request for the same bug.

The debdiff is attached.

The changelog from the version in testing:

Bug#768797: HTTP method parser gets into wrong state upon 416 reply with Content-Length 0

2014-11-09 Thread Michael Stapelberg
Package: apt
Version: 1.0.9.3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I ran “apt-get -o Debug::Acquire::http=true update 2/tmp/apt-log” and
looked at /tmp/apt-log. The way I interpret the log I’ve attached below
is that apt gets a HTTP/1.1 416 reply, but doesn’t read the reply body
(212 bytes according to the Content-Length). These bytes are then read
when apt expects the next reply, thus confusing the HTTP parser for all
further replies on this TCP connection.

In this particular apt run, this manifested itself as
“Bad header line [IP: 2a00:c98:2030:a034::21 80]” at some point during
the update, as the parser was getting a (compressed) reply when it
expected header lines.

I’ve looked into the apt source, and I think the problem is here:

apt/methods/server.cc:188:

  // §14.16 says 'byte-range-resp-spec' should be a '*' in case of 416
  if (Result == 416  sscanf(Val.c_str(), bytes */%llu,Size) == 1)
  {
StartPos = 1; // ignore Content-Length, it would override Size
 HaveContent = false;
  }

This code is still present in the (latest, as of writing this) version 1.1~exp8
of apt.

I think the HaveContent = false; line is the problem and makes apt not
skip the reply.

I would have tested and verified this and sent a patch, but there’s no
testsuite for this part of the code, so I couldn’t easily verify that
this was the problem and that my fix is correct, and neither could I
verify that the suggested fix doesn’t break anything else. Hence I’ll
leave it up to you to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

OK, if I ran:

alsa-utils stop

then muted surround in alsamixer

than ran

alsa-utils start

the surround was un-muted (correctly restored).

So it appears that the restore isn't occuring properly.

Bug#766462: with plymouth installed, I don't get any gettys on my VCs

2014-11-09 Thread Laurent Bigonville
On Thu, 23 Oct 2014 12:13:44 +0200 Peter Palfrader wea...@debian.org
wrote:
 Package: plymouth

 Hi,

I just upgraded to jessie, and with plymouth installed, I don't get
any gettys/login prompts on any of the VCs. kdm starts up and gives
me an X login-prompt, but none of the consoles do.

Purging plymoth gives me login prompts on the VCs.

So small summary of what's happening here. After some debugging with
weasel it turns out that:

This bug is triggered by the fact that GDM systemd service is enabled
while KDM is also enabled. GDM .service file explicitly conflicts with
plymouth-quit.service as it calls plymouth --quit itself to allow a
smooth transition from plymouth to the login screen. To fix this part,
KDM should probably provides a .service file too and properly set a
symlink for display-manager.service (like GDM and lightdm are doing).

Looking at other .service file (like console-getty.service or
getty@.service) it turns out that they declare an
After=plymouth-quit-wait.service relationship. That might explain why
the getty's are not started.

Not too sure how to fix this at this point in the development process,
maybe plymouth-quit-wait.service should have some kind of timeout?
(ATM it's explicitly disabling the timeout). But this should be tested,
the side effect is that plymouthd would never exit not 100% sure if
this has other implications.

As a side note, the fact that the debug log is not generated is because
the file is written to disk only when the daemon exits...

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville
