Bug#761670: [Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#761670: impossible to bootstrap build of node-jake and node-utilities: (build-)dependency loop
severity 761670 important thanks Quoting Thomas Goirand (2014-09-15 18:20:43) Trying to do a bunch of backports, I came across this issue. node-utilities build-depends: node-jake node-jake depends: node-utilities So, it's impossible to build node-utilities, because it needs node-jake, which cannot be installed, because it depends on node-utilities, which isn't build. This cycle has to be broken, otherwise it makes it very hard for porters to bootstrap the rebuild of node-utilities node-jake. I agree this is a bug and it needs correcting. I disagree, however, that it is so important that it is better to not ship Jessie with this bug than to ship Jessie with this unfixed. Bug#735261: kmail2 randomly marks read messages as unread
On Saturday 01 November 2014 00:34:56 Scott Kitterman wrote: KMail randomly marks single messages as unread. This makes my normal workflow, where I leave messages unread for later, deeper consideration, tedious and bordering on impossible. KMail also randomly creates new duplicates of old messages, which are (of course) also marked unread. Is this still an issue with the current kmail (4.14) or akonadi (1.13)? The issue went on-and-off over a lot of time, and in the end I've given up on trusting kmail2 with my read/unread marks; so it was hard to me to answer immediately. That said, in the last week there seem to be no spurious duplicates or unread markings. Bug#768788: Recent installer versions using the wrong GPT partition type GUID for EFI System Partition
Package: partmen-efi Severity: serious Tags: d-i Not sure if partman-efi is the right place for this bug to be filed, but it's where things are showing up. Maybe parted is a better place? Older versions of the installer (up to and including at least jessie d-i alpha 1, 2014-03-18) use the correct GUID for an EFI system partition on GPT, C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B. Later versions (including jessie d-i beta 1, 2014-08-13) are using 0FC63DAF-8483-4772-8E79-3D69D8477DE4, which is Linux filesystem data. This is wrong and will cause installation failures on some machines if they're conforming correctly to the UEFI spec. See [1] for more information. Using snapshot.d.o, it looks like the most likely cause of the breakage is the switch from parted 2 to parted 3. I'm looking deeper now. Bug#768791: Default to 'make -O' for sane output on parallel builds please
Package: debhelper Version: 9.20140228 Severity: wishlist On parallel builds the output from multiple targets gets all mixed up making them basically impossible to read. In make 4 there is a new option that helps with this: -O[type], --output-sync[=type] When running multiple jobs in parallel with -j, ensure the output of each job is collected together rather than interspersed with output from other jobs. If type is not specified or is target the output from the entire recipe for each target is grouped together. If type is line the output from each command line within a recipe is grouped together. If type is recurse output from an entire recursive make is grouped together. If type is none output syn- chronization is disabled. This uses tempfiles to buffer the output so it does use some extra resources. But anyone doing parallel builds should have enough ram for the whole output to stay in ram and the overhead to be inconsequential. Please add -O to the make options in debhelper (if make 4 is used). Bug#768795: git-all: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE
Package: git-all Version: 1:2.1.3+next.20141103-1 Severity: serious User: debian...@lists.debian.org Usertags: piuparts Hi, an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty) directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be detected by dpkg. This was observed on the following upgrade paths: sid - experimental For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too, including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen. Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this. See in particular the end of point 4 in http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands 'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.2) to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript. See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details. From the attached log (usually somewhere in the middle...): 1m19.6s ERROR: FAIL: silently overwrites files via directory symlinks: /usr/share/doc/git/html/git-subtree.html (git-man) != /usr/share/doc/git-doc/git-subtree.html (git-doc) 1m21.9s ERROR: FAIL: debsums reports modifications inside the chroot: /usr/share/doc/git-doc/git-subtree.html cheers, Andreas git-all_1:2.1.3+next.20141103-1.log.gz Description: application/gzip

Bug#768797: HTTP method parser gets into wrong state upon 416 reply with Content-Length 0
Package: apt Version: 1.0.9.3 Severity: normal Tags: patch I ran “apt-get -o Debug::Acquire::http=true update 2/tmp/apt-log” and looked at /tmp/apt-log. The way I interpret the log I’ve attached below is that apt gets a HTTP/1.1 416 reply, but doesn’t read the reply body (212 bytes according to the Content-Length). These bytes are then read when apt expects the next reply, thus confusing the HTTP parser for all further replies on this TCP connection. In this particular apt run, this manifested itself as “Bad header line [IP: 2a00:c98:2030:a034::21 80]” at some point during the update, as the parser was getting a (compressed) reply when it expected header lines. I’ve looked into the apt source, and I think the problem is here: apt/methods/server.cc:188: // §14.16 says 'byte-range-resp-spec' should be a '*' in case of 416 if (Result == 416 sscanf(Val.c_str(), bytes */%llu,Size) == 1) { StartPos = 1; // ignore Content-Length, it would override Size HaveContent = false; } This code is still present in the (latest, as of writing this) version 1.1~exp8 of apt. I think the HaveContent = false; line is the problem and makes apt not skip the reply. I would have tested and verified this and sent a patch, but there’s no testsuite for this part of the code, so I couldn’t easily verify that this was the problem and that my fix is correct, and neither could I verify that the suggested fix doesn’t break anything else. Hence I’ll leave it up to you to fix it. Thanks in advance. Bug#766462: with plymouth installed, I don't get any gettys on my VCs
On Thu, 23 Oct 2014 12:13:44 +0200 Peter Palfrader wea...@debian.org wrote: Package: plymouth Version: 0.9.0-7 Severity: serious Hi, I just upgraded to jessie, and with plymouth installed, I don't get any gettys/login prompts on any of the VCs. kdm starts up and gives me an X login-prompt, but none of the consoles do. Purging plymoth gives me login prompts on the VCs. So small summary of what's happening here. After some debugging with weasel it turns out that: This bug is triggered by the fact that GDM systemd service is enabled while KDM is also enabled. GDM .service file explicitly conflicts with plymouth-quit.service as it calls plymouth --quit itself to allow a smooth transition from plymouth to the login screen. To fix this part, KDM should probably provides a .service file too and properly set a symlink for display-manager.service (like GDM and lightdm are doing). Looking at other .service file (like console-getty.service or getty@.service) it turns out that they declare an After=plymouth-quit-wait.service relationship. That might explain why the getty's are not started. Not too sure how to fix this at this point in the development process, maybe plymouth-quit-wait.service should have some kind of timeout? (ATM it's explicitly disabling the timeout). But this should be tested, the side effect is that plymouthd would never exit not 100% sure if this has other implications. As a side note, the fact that the debug log is not generated is because the file is written to disk only when the daemon exits...
