Bug#769273: bsdutils: Dependency on libsystemd0 violates policy

No, including the dependency is the right approach and is consistent with
how Debian has always handled issues like this. We always enable all
optional upstream behavior where possible unless the dependencies are
 particularly heavy,
My understanding was this is the correct approach unless doing so
breaches policy, which this (and apparently many others ) does. I was
just trying to point out that there seem to be 3 possible solutions
here, one of which nobody else had mentioned:
1) Remove the dependency
2) Fix the policy
3) Blunder on as-is and keep having people point out policy violations.

Martin Pitt [2014-11-13 8:22 +0100]:
So it seems it's not (very) architecture specific, but just some
kind of race condition. I'll have a look in this direction and
re-run the test a gazillion times in various environments.

Confirmed. I ran it some 10,000 times with

$ while true; do LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.libs src/umockdev-wrapper tests/test-umockdev

Oh!! I should have paid more attention to your initial email of this bug
report.

The old version in Wheezy does not have this fix. Yes.
Stable release policies, and my time and priorities, do not accommodate
backporting fixes to old stable releases.

Your best bet would be to eventually upgrade to Jessy, once it is
released. Or else backport the fixes by yourself, or hire a consultant
to do that.

Bug#769385: samba-doc: There are no docs, only examples

2014-11-13 Thread Paul Slootman
Package: samba-doc
Version: 2:4.1.13+dfsg-2
Severity: normal

The package name is a misnomer nowadays.
I installed it expecting to browse the HTMl documentation. I understand
that upstream has removed the HTML documentation, so that's unfortunate.
However, does it make sense to continue calling this package samba-doc
while there is no documentation as such included in the package? The
description says:

This package contains all the manpage documentation for the Samba
 suite.

However all the manpages are included in the main samba package,
as they should be.

I suggest renaming this package to samba-examples, and perhaps
make samba-doc a transitional package that suggests samba-doc-pdf?

Thanks,
Paul Slootman

so much that it has no network with which to recover.

For a quick test/fall-back make sure you have a recent enough sysvinit
installed (2.88dsf-55.3) and boot with init=/lib/sysvinit/init.

For a more permanent replacement you might need to install systemd-shim
along with sysvinit-core:

apt-get install sysvinit-core systemd-shim systemd-sysv-

You can still boot with init=/lib/systemd/systemd if you don't remove
the systemd package.

Hope this helps,

Bug#769377: haskell-devscripts: please mark as M-A:foreign

2014-11-13 Thread Johannes Schauer
Hi,

Helmut Grohne corrected me that this is not that simple.

haskell-devscripts depends on ghc and specifically uses ghci for example to do
tests which should be carried out for the host architecture but are instead
being done for the build architecture. Example:

./usr/share/cdbs/1/class/hlibrary.mk:NO_GHCI_FLAG = $(shell test -e
/usr/bin/ghci || echo --ghc-option=-DDEBIAN_NO_GHCI; exit 0)

So this requires quite some additional work which probably only makes sense to
do once haskell can be cross compiled in practice.

cheers, josch

Bug#768769: Please help: failed build of plastimatch 1.5.16+dfsg-2 for several architectures

Hi,

I noticed that the proposed fix does not help to build plastimatch - at
least the build fails on most architectures[1]. I have the suspicion that
simply dropping --parallel from rules (== the following patch)

--- rules.orig 2014-05-19 09:39:29.0 +0200

 #export DH_VERBOSE=1

 %:

 DEB_CMAKE_EXTRA_FLAGS += \

could solve the issue but it can perfectly be some different problem.
It would be great if somebody could investigate and upload (and file an
unblock bug) since I will take the freedom to deal with real live until
beginning of December.

Thanks

Andreas.

Bug#769377: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#769377: haskell-devscripts: please mark as M-A:foreign

2014-11-13 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

Am Donnerstag, den 13.11.2014, 09:52 +0100 schrieb Johannes Schauer:
Helmut Grohne corrected me that this is not that simple.

haskell-devscripts depends on ghc and specifically uses ghci for example to do
tests which should be carried out for the host architecture but are instead
being done for the build architecture. Example:

 ./usr/share/cdbs/1/class/hlibrary.mk:NO_GHCI_FLAG = $(shell test -e
 /usr/bin/ghci || echo --ghc-option=-DDEBIAN_NO_GHCI; exit 0)

So this requires quite some additional work which probably only makes sense to
do once haskell can be cross compiled in practice.

ok, undone the change to the repo.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#718362: workaround to #718362 (tracker/data/unknown-packages)

2014-11-13 Thread Luciano Bello
Hi,
These two scripts might help as a workaround.

This one uses sources.debian.net
./unknown-packages.py | grep WAT

and this one packages.qa.debian.org
./unknown-packages-pts.py | grep WAT

I think the tracker does not depend on any external elements now. Does it
make sense to include something like these scripts in the tracker?

Bug#767103: irssi-plugin-otr doesn't work with irssi 0.8.17

I'm wondering if this could be a side-effect of #767230.
Can you reproduce this after upgrading libotr5 to 4.1.0-1?

I'm not so much sure if that has anything to do with libotr API. irssi
happens to change api/abi every now and then and plugins need to get
recompiled on almost any new irssi release. I have the same issue with
irssi 0.8.17 from backports and irssi-plugin-otr from stable. The
plugin needs a tighter dependency on irssi.

I'm not familiar with how library packaging works, and whether that
could be used at all for irssi, thing is that the plugins (especially
the otr one it seems) need to get recompiled every time a new irssi
upstream release happens.

Anyone who is willing to dig more into this is very much encouraged to
do so and help out, either for the packaging part to ease that pain, or
with upstream to make it more stable in that respect. I'm personally
lacking the skills to do that because I haven't digged into any library
packaging work at all, so my whole soname versioning knowledge is sort
of non-existing (and I'm still uncertain if that could help here at all,
if only to produce something that the irssi-plugin-* packages won't be
installable anymore after a new irssi upload).

Please get the binNMU done for now, and anyone more knowledgeable can
figure out how to deal with that in the future. Sorry that I forgot to
send a mail about the new upstream release this time.

 Enjoy,
Rhonda

I'd like to suggest the following Policy change to fix the

This does simplify current practice, but unfortunately not Policy itself,
as adhering to policy shouldn't allow you to break debootstrap. :-P

The patch below adds support for xz, lzop and lz4 compression, which

Could you please apply it in one of the next uploads? Thanks.

Thanks for the patch. It looks fine except for the lz4 case, which
uses GNU tar-specific options and hardcodes the path to lz4 which is
nonportable, and it also lacks an update to the docs in
 man/schroot.conf.5.man (optionally compressed with...).

If you could fix it to use lz4 portably (I'd suggest piping) so it
works with BSD tar, and also fix up the docs, I'll be happy to apply
 this.

Thanks for the review. Please find attached a new version of the patch
which should address your comments.

Thanks,

It's been reported in other places as well, and it seems the underlying
OS call fails for a reason. pwd.getpwuid(os.getuid())[0], however, gives
the expected result reliably.

Bug#768896: Also affects other clutter-using applications

2014-11-13 Thread Marcus Lundblad
This also affects ie. gnome-maps.
If you leave it open during suspend/resume, the map view (using Clutter)
shows the same random-pixel pattern. Other than that, widgets are shown
as usual.

I'm suspecting some refresh is triggered but that this does not happen
for some Clutter surfaces.

Bug#726661: login fails with pam_loginuid(sshd:session): set_loginuid failed

2014-11-13 Thread Simon McVittie
Control: tags 726661 + moreinfo

On Thu, 13 Nov 2014 at 09:19:42 +, Simon McVittie wrote:
Anyone else, please reply to #726661 if discussing pam_loginuid or
the new clone (bug number to be determined) if discussing PermitRootLogin.

Here is the part of that bug specifically about pam_loginuid. I believe
this regressed when https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=677440
was fixed, adding pam_loginuid for the benefit of (at the time) ConsoleKit;
it is also used by auditd and systemd-logind.

I cannot reproduce this bug on a (somewhat outdated) jessie system with
sysvinit. I would like some more information from the people who are
affected by it:

* Are you using a non-Debian kernel?
* Does your kernel have AUDIT_LOGINUID_IMMUTABLE set in its configuration?
* What init system are you using? (sysvinit? systemd? Upstart? something else?)

Further discussion of possible causes, workarounds, etc. below.

I've added a bunch of somewhat relevant people to Cc: everyone who
reported seeing this bug or similar, Laurent and Michael because they
were involved in #677440 and seem to know about loginuid/audit in general,
and the PAM maintainers.

Summarizing for those who weren't previously in Cc, I think
the steps to get this bug are something like this:

* Have a non-Debian kernel configuration (?)
* Run sysvinit (*not* systemd or Upstart) as pid 1
* pid 1 and other system services initially have loginuid -1, which
means undefined, not part of a login
* Be in a root shell that has been given a loginuid other than -1, either:
  - log in as root with a version of login, openssh-server, etc.
that uses pam_loginuid; your loginuid will be 0
  - log in as an ordinary user (uid 1234, say) with a version of login,
openssh-server, etc. that uses pam_loginuid, and use su or sudo to get
the necessary root privileges to restart openssh-server; your loginuid
will be 1234
* Restart openssh-server, either manually or as a side-effect of an upgrade
* Start a new parallel login via ssh, either as uid 0, 1234 or something else
* cat /proc/self/loginuid

Desired result (which is what I get):

* New parallel login succeeds
* In the new parallel login, /proc/self/loginuid equals $(id -u)

What seems to be happening to the people affected by this bug, but I
cannot reproduce it:

* The restarted openssh-server has the same loginuid as the shell from
  which you started it
* Transitions from loginuid == -1 to loginuid != -1 are not allowed [1]
* pam_loginuid fails with: pam_loginuid(sshd:session): set_loginuid failed

[1] surprises me, because this is conditional on a kernel option,
AUDIT_LOGINUID_IMMUTABLE, which is designed for systemd and similar
systems and doesn't seem to be set in Debian kernels according to
/boot/config*... see
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=633b454.

Possible workarounds include:

* Remove pam_loginuid.so from the ssh configuration (confirmed to work,
but it would reopen #677440 and doesn't seem a great idea distro-wide)
* Use a modern init system that starts system services via IPC to pid 1,
  i.e. systemd or Upstart
  - The restarted openssh-server has loginuid -1
  - The transition from -1 to 4321 succeeds
  - Everything's fine
* Use a Debian kernel without AUDIT_LOGINUID_IMMUTABLE (?)
* Drop pam_loginuid.so from required to optional in the ssh configuration (?)

It's a pity we can't enable pam_loginuid.so if and only if init is
modern (systemd or Upstart). Perhaps patching it would be another option?

As far as I can see, other services that use pam_loginuid would typically
have the same bug, but there are mitigations:

* getty/login are started by IPC to init (edit inittab, send signal)
even under sysvinit, so they are unaffected
* Display managers (gdm, lightdm etc.) are not typically restarted
automatically on upgrades because that would disrupt current X sessions,
so they are unaffected unless the user restarts them manually without
  rebooting

If my assumptions about the cause are correct, then I can't see any way
to get the desired result in openssh-server when run under sysvinit.
Can someone else?

The best I can come up with so far is to to change from the current

session required pam_loginuid.so

to

session optional pam_loginuid.so

That would mean that login to the restarted openssh-server worked, but
its sessions had the wrong loginuid until the machine was rebooted.

Regards,
S

Bug#769393: mysql-workbench: Saving password in keychain does not work

2014-11-13 Thread dirdi
Package: mysql-workbench
Version: 6.2.3+dfsg-7
Severity: normal

First of all, I'm aware of archived and related bugs #670813 and #670814.

Storing passwords in keychain does not work, if $GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL env
variable is not present. mysql-workbench reports the following on startup:
$ mysql-workbench
** Message: Gnome keyring daemon seems to not be available. Stored passwords
will be lost once quit

It seems, that mysql-workbench still relies on the $GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL env
variable. However, this variable is no longer exported, since gnome-keyring
version 3.11.92, see [0].

Suggestion: mysql-workbench should make use of the $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR env
variable instead.

It's not lost, but it's annoying because of the size of the changes.

Bug#769388: 'PermitRootLogin without-password' in new installations breaks some use cases

2014-11-13 Thread Simon McVittie
Control: retitle 769388 'PermitRootLogin without-password' in new installations
breaks some use cases

On Thu, 13 Nov 2014 at 09:19:42 +, Simon McVittie wrote:
Anyone else, please reply to #726661 if discussing pam_loginuid or
the new clone (bug number to be determined) if discussing PermitRootLogin.

Bug#769388 is the new cloned bug, discussing PermitRootLogin.

Summarizing, the situation here is:

* Debian 7 (wheezy) and older had PermitRootLogin yes by default.

* New installations of Debian 8 (jessie)'s openssh-server have
PermitRootLogin without-password by default. This means root can log in
with a public key or similar mechanism, but root cannot log in with a
password. This is a deliberate change to improve security by avoiding
brute-force attacks on root's password, requested in
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=298138;
after all, the root account always exists with that username,
and allows accessing any user account's data, so it's a very attractive
  target for brute-force attacks.

* Upgrading openssh-server from Debian 7's version to Debian 8's version
uses debconf to ask whether to update the configuration, as far as
  I can see.

* However, new installations of Debian 8 do not ask which configuration
to use; they use the new one (PermitRootLogin without-password)
  unconditionally.

Concrete effects reported in this bug:

* People who were used to the old configuration find the behaviour of new
installations of jessie confusing. A NEWS.Debian entry would not help here,
because new installations don't show NEWS.Debian; an entry in the
jessie release notes would be more appropriate.

* Daniel Richard G. reports that this breaks his process for installing
Linux VM images, in which the image ends up with only a root user,
so there is no less-privileged user who can su to root.

I understand the request to have debian-installer ask which configuration
to use, and I have some sympathy for that; I've been doing a bit of
installer testing in disposable VMs recently, and it's annoying to have to
log in once at the (emulated) console to switch to PermitRootLogin yes.
However, I do think maintainers are right to err on the side of asking the
minimum feasible number of questions in the installer.

Another possibility would be to use a low-priority question that is
only shown in the expert installer, but can be pre-seeded.

It is already possible to put something like this on the kernel command line
when booting the installer, which might be useful:

preseed/late_command=in-target sed -i 's/PermitRootLogin
without-password/PermitRootLogin yes/' /etc/ssh/sshd_config

If you are producing VM images that are designed to be cloned repeatedly,
to make those VM images secure and correct, you already need a
post-processing step to do things like deleting the ssh host key,
setting a new unique systemd/D-Bus machine ID and so on; it seems
sensible to extend that post-processing step for jessie to enable
root login with a password, or to enable SSH public-key
authentication for root by putting a specific key in
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys.

S

Bug#711460: xfce4-mixer: changing sound volume not working after muting : Still alive

2014-11-13 Thread Duflot Jean-Luc
Hello, This bug is still alive on the version 4.10.0-3 on Debian jessie.

It exists since January 2013. The real problem is the only way I know to
recover the sound is to launch another window manager, as Mate, and
unmute tre sound. Not very practical...

Is it planned to do something on it ?

Bug#769399: bash-completion: gets confused by curly braces

2014-11-13 Thread Nikolaus Schulz
Package: bash-completion
Version: 1:2.1-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

it seems that curly braces aren't handled too well by bash-completion.
See this example, with set -x for debugging, and hitting TAB after git diff
@{-1} -- dri:

  $ git diff @{-1} -- dri+ local compfile=./completions
  + [[ /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion == */* ]]
  + compfile=/usr/share/bash-completion/completions
  + compfile+='/-1}'
  + [[ -f /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/-1} ]]
  + complete -F _minimal '-1}'
  bash: complete: -1: invalid option
  complete: usage: complete bla-bla...

When the @{-1} is quoted, dri is correctly expanded to drivers.

Another, similar breakage:

  $ r drivers/memory/tegra/tegra{-,124-e}mc.c dri+ local compfile=./completions
  + [[ /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion == */* ]]
  + compfile=/usr/share/bash-completion/completions
  + compfile+='/-,124-e}mc.c'
  + [[ -f /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/-,124-e}mc.c ]]
  + complete -F _minimal '-,124-e}mc.c'
  bash: complete: -,: invalid option
  complete: usage: complete blabla...

The errors shows up in _completion_loader, but I'm not sure if things don't
break earlier.

Bug#766921: [Piuparts-devel] Bug#766921: (no subject)

2014-11-13 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

from #debian-qa this morning:

h01ger | #766921 - anybody have an idea why adding gcc to the chroot helps?
ntyni | h01ger: looks like eatmydata calls dpkg-architecture which calls gcc
h01ger | ah!
h01ger | so the options are really just disabling eatmydata or adding gcc?
mapreri | h01ger: you can install libeatmydata1 and
LD_PRELOAD=libeatmydata.so instead of using the the eatmydata helper script
h01ger | thanks
mapreri (not sure of how you use eatmydata, but the eatmydata package is
actually useless, the actual library is in libeatmydata1)
mapreri | h01ger: this will fixed by 105, but only on sid for jessie+1 (as a
part of #765810)
zwiebelbot | (#debian-qa) Debian#765810: the eatmydata binary should work
with different arches transparently - https://bugs.debian.org/765810
* h01ger ponders removing / disabling eatmydata then for now
h01ger | adding gcc everywhere doesnt seem like a good idea to me
mapreri | h01ger: just replace eatmydata by LD_PRELOAD=${LD_PRELOAD:
+$LD_PRELOAD:}libeatmydata.so and install libeatmydata1 instead of eatmydata.
should work fine.
* h01ger doubts that this is the right syntax for python :)
mapreri ouch
h01ger | mapreri: thanks. i will dump this in the bug report for now and
then see what i'll do. this week nothing for sure
mapreri | h01ger: well, is there a pythonic way to preload library? :)

cheers,
Holger

Bug#766921: piuparts fails with ValueError: too many values to unpack when dpkg prints a warning

2014-11-13 Thread Andreas Beckmann
I: Found additional required dependencies: acl adduser dmsetup

libsemanage-common libsemanage1 libslang2 libsystemd0 libudev1
libustr-1.0-1 perl perl-modules procps systemd systemd-sysv udev

Why does a minimal chroot contain systemd?
A systemd environment may get funny for --allow-database :-)

I: Found additional base dependencies: binutils bzip2
debian-archive-keyring dpkg-dev gnupg gpgv libapt-pkg4.12 libdpkg-perl
libeatmydata1 libreadline6 libstdc++6 libtimedate-perl libusb-0.1-4 make
patch readline-common xz-utils

So something pulls in dpkg-dev, but not gcc. That sounds wrong. Both.
dpkg-dev shouldn't be needed in a minimal chroot (w/o build-essential).

2m30.4s DEBUG: Starting command: ['chroot', '/tmp/tmpMtfEHx',

2m30.4s DEBUG: Command ok: ['chroot', '/tmp/tmpMtfEHx', 'eatmydata',
'mount', '-t', 'proc', 'proc', '/proc']

Whatever calls dpkg-architecture for running mount ...

Does the same problem happen if eatmydata is *not* used? (That's the
only factor piuparts may contribute to the issue.)
Try --no-eatmydata

Bug#768893: unblock: libeatmydata/82-3

2014-11-13 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

On Mittwoch, 12. November 2014, Mattia Rizzolo wrote:
On Wed Nov 12 2014 at 7:17:09 PM Jonathan Wiltshire j...@debian.org wrote:

I'm asking for an unblock for libeatmydata/82-3 AND your opinion (call it
pre-approval if you like (actually I'd be happier with a full
pre-approval)) for libeatmydata/82-4 with the only change I posted at my
 last email.

Mattia, it's seldom a good idea to mix topics and especially in this case with
the release team getting ~50 bugs a day it doesn't help them at all.

About the libeatmydata/82-3 unblock request:

 libeatmydata (82-3) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/bug-702711.patch:
+ [c95e942] fix the bug #702711 also for 32 bit arches (Closes: #765738).
 + [0167220] update headers.
   * [3fabf6f] debian/control: build-depend on strace only on non hurd and non
kfreebsd systems, where it is unavailable.

#702711 breaks eatmydata completly on i386 (which is noticable in Debian Edu),
so I disagree with the severity of #702711 which is currently important, like
#765738 was at well. I think both bugs are serious and must be fixed for
jessie.

So, dear release team, could you please unblock libeatmydata? The debdiff
looks good to me...!

I think a pre-approval is needed for that change because there is no bugs
at all regarding building libeatmydata on hurd and kfreebsd, and anyway
that bugs would not be important.

I'd suggest coming back to 82-4 once 82-3 is in jessie _and_ filing bugs about
the issues you want to fix in 82-4 _first_.

cheers,
Holger

 Dear Maintainer,

My internet provider add url-filtration for https by using self-signed

Google Chrome (from google) and Chromium (from Debian) see it and fail.
Iceweasel does nothing, as if cert is valid.

I am exec openssl s_client -connect www.youtube.com:443 via filter and

 What does it say on

does it say under technical details ?

Expired cert and Parallels Panel as CN.

What happens if you run iceweasel with a fresh profile and in safe mode?
 (iceweasel -P -safe-mode)

Was tried before bugreport, nothing changed, www.youtube.com opened
well in iceweasel, when chromium fail with cert error.

New information:
I forgot to save cert before bugreport and take when was write it.
Now i see, that provider change cert, nothing failed in any browser
and new cert was attached to bugreport

I get https://pki.google.com/GIAG2.crt and run:

$ openssl x509 -inform DER -outform PEM -in GIAG2.crt -out GIAG2.pem
$ openssl verify -verbose -CAfile GIAG2.pem cert_filter

$ openssl verify -verbose -CAfile GIAG2.pem cert_direct

Provider beat me and other clients. So, i can't repeat bug now.

Bug#758234: transitive dependencies

2014-11-13 Thread Matthias Urlichs
[ re-post, signed ]

I'd like to formally propose the following Policy change to fix the
depend on packages with lower dependencies non-problem.

This does simplify current practice, but unfortunately not Policy itself,
as adhering to policy shouldn't allow you to break debootstrap. :-P

This change is git-pull-able: git://git.smurf.noris.de/policy.git#master

commit f534bae9ccb69b70e58e1f34b9aa143d35ac836e
Author: Matthias Urlichs matth...@urlichs.de
Date: Thu Nov 13 13:15:31 2014 +0100

Policy: Use dependencies instead of priority adherence

Raising the policy of dependent libraries is unnecessary busy-work
which current tools do not require.

This change updates Policy to conform to current practice and
tools' requirements, particularly debootstrap.

Please unblock package coinutils/2.9.15-3:
  * Team upload.
  * Add liblapack-dev for coinor-libcoinutils-dev to make sure -llapack
and -lblas exist as required in the pkgconfig file (Closes: #768753)

Bug #768753 is new RC and it is in the reverse dependency chain of
libreoffice, thus need such a fix.

Bug#769402: ttytter: Submits and retweets \n as literal string

2014-11-13 Thread Michael Franzl
Package: ttytter
Version: 2.1.0+1-1
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream

Twitter.com allows line breaks when composing tweets.

When the -newline command line option of TTYtter is not present, these line
breaks are displayed as the literal string \n. When the -newline command line
option is present, these line breaks are actually conserved, and real line
breaks occur in the terminal when the tweet is displayed. So far so good.

But independent of the -newline switch, retweeting such a tweet -- or composing
a new tweet -- containting the literal string \n, will not transform it back
into a real line break. The Twitter.com website and other twitter clients
therefore display the literal string \n for such messages sent by TTYtter.

It's not a big deal when composing new tweets (because one simply doesn't type
\n), but if one wants to /oretweet such a message (containing a line break),
the tweet display will be messed up for others.

This does simplify current practice, but unfortunately not Policy itself,
as adhering to policy shouldn't allow you to break debootstrap. :-P

What I do not understand is, how this affect debootstrap ?

For me priority are purely metadata provided by the override file.
Policy does not require software to use them in anyway, I think.

Cheers,

Bug#768769: Please help: failed build of plastimatch 1.5.16+dfsg-2 for several architectures

2014-11-13 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Hi Andreas,

TL;DR: insighttoolkit needs binNMU on !ppc64el.

On Thu, 13 Nov 2014 10:07:16 +0100, Andreas Tille wrote:
I noticed that the proposed fix does not help to build plastimatch - at
least the build fails on most architectures[1].

The failing reason in the build log is:

| CMake Error at /usr/lib/InsightToolkit/UseITK.cmake:81 (MESSAGE):
| ITK was built with GDCM from /usr/lib/gdcm-2.4, but this project is using
| GDCM from /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/gdcm-2.4. Please set GDCM_DIR to
| match the one used to build ITK.

This is because GDCM recently (on 2014-09-30) switched to multi-arch location
[1],
and insighttoolkit (3.x) has NOT been rebuilt against that (the last
insighttoolkit
upload is dated 2014-03-09).

[1]: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/debian-med?view=revisionrevision=18115

So I guess we need to binNMU insighttoolkit, and the builds will be magically
fixed.

The reason the build succeeded on three archs is that on amd64 and i386
plastimatch uses insighttoolkit4 (which is not affected), and on ppc64el
insighttoolkit was built against new GDCM (ppc64el build was held on
2014-10-15).

I have the suspicion that simply dropping --parallel from rules
could solve the issue but it can perfectly be some different problem.

No, that is unrelated and will not help.

Bug#769404: unblock: grilo-plugins/0.2.13-2

2014-11-13 Thread Alberto Garcia
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package grilo-plugins

I'm about to upload the new package, which contains the following
fixes:

http://bugs.debian.org/769357

There is a variable redefinition in the code that parses IPv6
addresses that makes the plugin crash (in short: the code iterates
over an uninitialized array). This renders programs like totem
   unusable.

http://bugs.debian.org/765986

The dLeyna plugin uses the dleyna-server DBUS API, but the
grilo-plugins package does not define any relationship to
   dleyna-server. This change adds a Recommends: dleyna-server
   field.

In addition to that, I added a build dependency on librest-dev. This
is a hard requirement for one of the plugins and the dependency is
explicitly checked in the configure script. If it's working at the
moment it's because it's coincidentally being pulled by other build
dependencies. I don't have any bug for this, so if this change is not
appropriate I'll revert it.

I haven't uploaded the package yet, I'll do it as soon as I get the

Bug#768185: Bug #768185: mesa-opencl-icd: installing this breaks other ICDs

2014-11-13 Thread Rebecca N. Palmer

Control: retitle -1 mesa-opencl-icd: installing this breaks other ICDs
Control: reassign -1 mesa-opencl-icd
Control: found -1 10.3.2-1

Those aren't normal this is not valid OpenCL C build errors (see
#769403 for those crashing beignet), they're compiler load errors,
matching
http://sources.debian.net/src/llvm-toolchain-3.5/1:3.5-6/lib/Support/CommandLine.cpp
lines 162 and 194.

On my system, they occur when attempting to use either beignet 0.9.3
(not 0.8) or pocl-opencl-icd when mesa-opencl-icd from sid
(10.3.2-1/libclc-r600 0~git20140101-5, using llvm 3.5 only) is installed.

mesa-opencl-icd from testing (10.3.2-1/libclc-r600 0~git20140101-4,
using both llvm 3.5 and 3.4) causes a different error in beignet 0.9.3
(below) and no error in pocl.

Note that the platform order is mesa, beignet, pocl in sid but
beignet, pocl, mesa in testing. pocl and beignet 0.9.3 use llvm 3.5,
beignet 0.8 uses llvm 3.4.

Using beignet (either version) and pocl at the same time (see attached
test script) works; I don't have the hardware to actually use
mesa-opencl-icd.

beignet 0.9.3 + mesa/testing error (matches

This is because GDCM recently (on 2014-09-30) switched to multi-arch location

Bug#717808: plasma-desktop: Panel freezes when disconnecting power and network

2014-11-13 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Hi!

I recently upgraded to Jessie, and had the same problem.

However, it indeed seems like the same problem, I had a NFS mount,
and when I unmounted that before disconnecting, it seems to have
solved the problem.

I don't know if this is something that could be solved on the package
level, it would have been awesome, but I suppose the answer is
simply use autofs?

Bug#758234: transitive dependencies

2014-11-13 Thread Matthias Urlichs
Hi,

Bill Allombert:
What I do not understand is, how this affect debootstrap ?

Debootstrap (by default) fetches everything-in-important, and then adds any
un-satisfied dependencies which these packages need.

Installation variants instead get everything-in-mandatory,
plus e.g. apt and build-essential, and then add dependencies.

See e.g. /usr/share/debootstrap/scripts/lenny, work_out_debs(),
plus /usr/sbin/debootstrap:564 and following.

For me priority are purely metadata provided by the override file.

Yes they're purely metadata. The Override file was once required
because our tools didn't do any dependency handling whatsoever,
and waiting for a priority update in a bunch of packages was even
more busy work (and also much too slow).

Right now, the Override file is IMHO pure busy work, and the vast majority
of its entries is redundant (i.e. identical to the package's metadata).
IMHO we don't need it at all.

Policy does not require software to use them in anyway, I think.

Policy isn't just an abstract requirements specification. It also codifies
the data which our tools expect. Thus, since debootstrap et al. need
priorities and simple dependencies to do their work, Policy needs to
reflect that.

In principle we could replace the whole priority thing with three
metapackages, but that's something to be explored _after_ releasing …

Since package maintainer decided not to use the cmake based build

ITK should simply use a dummy find_package file (not tested), eg:

find_path(DC_INCLUDE_DIR double-conversion.h)
find_library(DC_LIBRARY NAMES double-conversion)

Bug#769408: glib2.0: Please switch from libelfg0 to libelf1

2014-11-13 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Source: glib2.0
Version: 2.42.0-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

glib2.0 seems to be one of the only remaining user of libelfg0 package.

According to its description:

This shared library may be needed by pre-packaged programs. So it
looks like to be still present in the archive for some old (closed
source?) software.

Apparently back in the time elfutils implementation was missing some
function (elf_getshdrstrndx and elf_getshdrnum) that were created
(aliased) in version 0.142

Fedora is also linking against the elfutils implementation.

Cheers,

This is a fresh install of clamav and clamav-freshclam after a dpkg purge.

Almost a complete purge:

ii clamav-base0.98.5~rc1+dfsg-3
ii libclamav6 0.98.4+dfsg-2+b1

You have the old libclamav6 dangling around. If you do an apt-get
upgrade then it should be fixed.
We have depends on libclamav6 based on library functions / ABI. Now the
ABI remains unchanged but stops working. This was neither tested nor
expected.

I guess the simplest thing to do is to depend the whole clamav package
on the built version instead of versioned symbols like we now.
This check comes from check_flevel() and it is not exported so havp
friends won't care about his.
Any comments?

Thanks for the hint. I would have expected jh_build to do the right
thing for me, but apparently it is not the case. I just asked jh_build
to pass that flags to javac, and it seems all good now.

Regarding the msggrep warnings, I'm not sure if they are really
 harmless.

Thinking again, that should be harmless. I cannot see any after
rebuilding the package in a chroot similar to yours.

Many thanks for your assistance, and sorry, I'm really fuzzy in my
head these days. The fixed package was just uploaded.

Bug#756801: haskell-bloomfilter: FTBFS almost everywhere

2014-11-13 Thread Dejan Latinovic

Control: tags -1 + patch
Control: user -1 debian-m...@lists.debian.org
Control: usertags -1 + mips-patch

Unfortunately there is no feedback from upstream.

The problem is the condition roundedBits 0x.
On 32-bit system 0x treated as Int is -1,
due to maxBound :: Int is 214748364 (0x7fff).

If the value of roundedBits is greater than 0x7fff,
it will satisfy already exisiting condition (roundedBits = 0),
due to roundedBits is Int type.

I think that removing this additional condition (reverting commit)
would be acceptable solution.

Patch that remove this condition is attached.

With this patch I was able to build haskell-bloomfilter
on mips, mipsel, i386 and amd64.

Could you please consider including these changes?

Well, I don't really know; I'm just trying to explain why this
dependency was added to the package in the first place.

I understood that, and I wouldn't want that (or any) feature gone just
because I don't need it.

If you'd like to convert it to dlopen() similar to how support for X.Org
is implemented, this dependency can certainly be dropped, but I'm not
sure if this feature is worth the effort...

I have looked into the sources and not yet found out how it's done there.
Actually, I'm not even sure I found the right feature yet. All I do know
is there is no direct occurrence of dlopen in the sources.

As I find time, I might look into it more. If anyone else wants to have
a go, I won't be unhappy either. Neither would I be about a decision to
drop this feature, although I might be happier about it being extended
to other filesystems as well (with the necessary libs being dlopen()ed
on demand).

Wilfried

Please unblock securepass-tools.
It's a small leaf package, there is no chance to break reverse dependencies
as it would be its very first appearance in testing.

It also represents the last missing component of the

Thanks in advance for considering.

Cheers.

Version: 0.0.20130503-1

Hi,

prelink is using libelfg0 which seems unmaintained upstream (last
release seems to be around 1st Nov 2009). The description of the package
states: This shared library may be needed by pre-packaged programs.,
this sounds to me like it's in the archive for old (closed sources?)
packages only.

The package is still compiling sucessfully when switching the
build-dependency to libelf-dev.

Cheers,

My last upload of Cinder corrects #769223 which has been reported just right

This fix is needed after the mask_password CVE fix introduced a regression.

Bug#764084: avahi-daemon creates eth0:avahi briefly after startup overriding wlan0, no eth0 connected

2014-11-13 Thread Vikram Vincent
Subject: avahi-daemon creates eth0:avahi briefly after startup overriding
wlan0, no eth0 connected
Followup-For: Bug #764084
Package: avahi-daemon
Version: 0.6.31-4+b1

The bug is confirmed on my system as well. I need to manually disable the
eth0:avahi in order to be able to access the internet. The problem arises
during bootup when the system is trying to raise the network interfaces.
However, creation of the interface is NOT brief as mentioned as it
continues to survive until the system is shutdown. I have attached the
screenshot of the htop output

Bug#769392: os.getlogin() fails in para.py:47 -- better to use os.getuid() with pwd

2014-11-13 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi,

It's good to know some people started using debmake.

On Thu, Nov 13, 2014 at 11:33:25AM +0100, Andrew Shadura wrote:

Hi, I don't know the reason for this, but os.getlogin() fails here:

 Traceback (most recent call last):

 debmake.main()
File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/debmake/__init__.py, line 107, in main

File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/debmake/para.py, line 47, in para
 debfullname = pwd.getpwnam(os.getlogin())[4].split(',')[0]
FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

It's been reported in other places as well, and it seems the underlying
OS call fails for a reason. pwd.getpwuid(os.getuid())[0], however, gives
 the expected result reliably.

What authentication do you use to login to your account?
What x-terminal do you use?

Can you do the same as follows to see your side of situation?

$ echo $TERM

This is a report on bugs found in the System Description: Ubuntu 13.04
This seems to be old issue.

The issue seems to be that some x-terminals ( gterm in
this case ) do not register themselves with utmp, which
this function uses. I have two workarounds, one of
reverting back to using:

try:
 user=os.getlogin()
except:
 user=os.environ.get(USER)

Interesting. Maybe I should do this as a work around.

Why bother scanning 'stable'? It wastes time.
