Bug#785196: kfreebsd-image-10-amd64: Console has no output in qemu -display curses
Package: kfreebsd-image-10-amd64 Version: 10.1~svn274115-4 Severity: normal I am using kFreeBSD as a QEMU/KVM guest. I recently changed the QEMU configuration to use the curses display (instead of opening a VNC server). With an upstream FreeBSD guest that causes no problem, I can see the console during boot and can also login locally. With the kFreeBSD guest however, I get absolutely no output. I can still use SSH into the machine, but it should still be possible to access the system console, in case that is needed. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers stable-kfreebsd APT policy: (500, 'stable-kfreebsd') Architecture: kfreebsd-amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: kFreeBSD 10.1-0-amd64 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages kfreebsd-image-10-amd64 depends on: ii kfreebsd-image-10.1-0-amd64 10.1~svn274115-4 kfreebsd-image-10-amd64 recommends no packages. kfreebsd-image-10-amd64 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#785109: Asylum crashes in Psyche level
Hi Hugh, As you might remember, some years ago I packages SDL Asylum for Debian. Yesterday I received a bug report that the game crashes at the end of the second level. I recompiled the game with -fsanitize=address,undefined which discovered a stray pointer in the collision detection code, seemingly always involving the alien2 function. Bug#770631: statsmodels: Build-Depends on nodejs not satisfiable on some architectures
Thank you Edmund. If you are a DD feel welcome to upload an NMU with such a workaround for now. In case of FUSE filesystems, you will get Transport endpoint not connected errors. Instead use udisks that handles automount correctly. [...] 2. Adding ntfs-3g to FILESYSTEMS *never* work because the `in_list` implementation does: $ cat /usr/share/usbmount/usbmount [...] in_list() { for v in $2; do [ $1 != $v ] || return 0 done return 1 } [...] Which means that for `ntfs` in_list will always returns an error when matched against `ntfs-3g` driver. The documentation is clearly wrong. So user should always add `ntfs` in FILESYSTEMS (mount will then use ntfs-3g) 3. There is a typo in: $ zmore /usr/share/doc/usbmount/README.gz [...] * add fuseblk to /etc/usb/usbmount.conf's variable FILESYSTEMS (for unmounting purposes). [...] It should read `/etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf` instead. 4. The documentation states that one should use: [...] The latter can be accomplished by the use of the command udevadm trigger --action=add /dev/sdd2 [...] But `trigger` action does not take a `devpath` `5. It is not clear why usbmount rules are located in `/lib/udev/rules.d/usbmount.rules` while I assumed it should be in `/etc/udev/rules.d` Because of 1, I am tempted to mark this bug as grave, since it prevent user from mount fuse system. From jessie on, the default ntfs backend is now always ntfs-3g (fuse) which means usbmount will not be able to mount any ntfs USB key in the future. I've deleted zsh from Suggests. liquidprompt uses screen and tmux to obtain information (optionally). How would you declare them if not in Recommends? d/copyright misses a section for debian/* Thanks, fixed. AGPL-3 should probably be AGPL-3+. Thanks, fixed. I don't like the idea of multiple invocations of the liquidprompt_activate command may pollute ~/.bashrc and/or ~/.zshrc files even if it's mentioned in the manpage. Well, it's just a shortcut, to ease the installation to the users. I know this is a bit ugly, but I guess it's better than nothing (or manually editing these files). Given that the user may edit by hand the ~/.bashrc file and load liquidprompt in another way, detecting if it has been previously activated can't be done easily. Of course, this point can be improved in the future. I think a manpage in the section 1 is expected to correspond to an executable with the same name which is not the case here. Maybe I am wrong here. Well, there is a binary called `liquidprompt_activate' and a link. So, an user typing: `man liquidprompt' and `man liquidprompt_activate' will go to the same manpage, which briefly documents the basics of liquidprompt (including liquidprompt_activate). Bug#785198: transition: GStreamer 0.10 removal
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: transition Hi, see rationale in this mailing list thread: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2015/05/msg00335.html It was suggested in that thread to also set up a transition tracker for this. The main package involved here would be libgstreamer0.10-0, which should go away and has libgstreamer1.0-0 as replacement already. The qt-gstreamer transition (#760003) already clears part of the remaining GStreamer 0.10 dependencies. Additionally there are further GStreamer 0.10 bindings: python-gst0.10 is replaced by python-gst1.0 / python3-gst1.0 libgstreamer0.9-cil is replaced by libgstreamer1.0-cil (which is not yet uploaded, upstream release exists) libgstreamermm-0.10-2 would be replaced by libgstreamermm-1.0-XXX (which is also not yet uploaded, upstream release exists) libgstreamer-perl, haskell-gstreamer I'm not aware what the plans there are, the latter also has nothing depending on it. Package: xen-hypervisor-4.5-amd64 Version: 4.5.0-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, according to the documentation the option ucode=scan should tell XEN to look for a microcode update in an uncompressed initrd. While I don’t use the Debian kernel the tools to generate the initrd are part of Debian. The command „cpio -i /boot/initrd.img-4.0.2-Dom0” creates the directory structure „kernel/x86/microcode/GenuineIntel.bin”, so I think the initrd is allright. But according to /proc/cpuinfo the microcode update doesn’t happen. If I copy GenuineIntel.bin to /boot, create a new module section in grub.cfg and boot with ucode=-1, then the update is working. In both cases dmesg or „xl dmesg” don’t tell anything about microcode updates (successfull or not). I tried to downgrade lightdm to wheezy version, to no avail ; but I found weird that the greeter stayed the same and then I remembered that in lightdm the greeter is separated from the main display manager. So I tried to downgrade lightdm-gtk-greeter to wheezy version and the problem was solved. Joining an snippet of the logs would be useless since the messages are strictly the same (even the gkr-pam one), but I tried my best to narrow down the problem nevertheless (at my humble non-dev level) by downloading on snapshot.debian.org every version between 1.1.6-2 (wheezy) and 1.8.5-2 (jessie), and upgrade the package step by step. The problem appeared with version 1.6.0-1. The weird thing (that I failed to notice before) is that when the syslog shows a fingerprint mismatch, the greeter acknowledges it (the box shakes and I'm allowed to retry, up to three times), but if the fingerprint matches, the greeter just ignores it. No shaking, no message, nothing. I just stays as it is instead of logging me in. It's not frozen though, since I still can enter a password (and then I'm able to log in). Starting from 1.8.1, in case of mismatch, the box doesn't shake anymore, only the swipe prompt changes, but for for an incredibly short period of time, that's certainly why until now I didn't identify the exact symptom so precisely(I watch the syslog from another screen via ssh). I know it's not much but I hope it helps. Also, I think this bug should be forwarded to upstream, since it seems to have been introduced by 1.6.0, which seems to have changed a lot of things (it's hard to tell from the upstream changelog because it rarely mentions version numbers, but this one introduced rounded corners, a new blue background for the swipe prompt, [Enter] didn't work anymore (until it was fixed later)... and this very bug). Just to be sure, I tried 2.0.0 from unstable, it's even worse : in case of a match, the password field disappears, I have to click Cancel to be able to enter my password and log in. I pinned 1.1.6-2 for now. I've forwarded the bug upstream, they might need more information, especially if they don't have a way to reproduce because of lack of fingerprint reader. Also, when you downgrade, can you confirm you *only* downgrade the greeter and not something else, like liblightdm-gobject? Bug#785161: kbuild: module-assistant fails to build virtualbox-source
I talked on irc with virtualbox/upstream folks (who always have the best solution :) ) this is a snippet of the conversation: -I don't think this has anything to do with kBuild which we use to compile the VirtualBox source code. -don't think anyone ever promised that one can mix and match kbuild and vbox... we define in our repo (or the tarball) what's known to work. if you use anything else you're on your own, and most likely out of luck. -When compiling the Linux kernel modules, kBuild is not / should not be used at all. The Linux kernel modules are built with the Linux kernel make system. -I don't know. For VirtualBox 4.3 we are currently using r2780, for 5.0 Beta we are using r2782. -The kernel modules need to be compiled with the Linux build system and this has nothing to do with kBuild. -Perhaps he does 'alias make=kmk' which he should not do. -The VirtualBox kernel modules are just external Linux kernel modules. They exist on their own and don't need the VirtualBox sources nor the kBuild system. -it might use kbuild for extracting them from the full vbox tree. we don't define any other way. -We do. src/VBox/HostDrivers/linux/export_modules is the official way for exporting the Linux modules from our tree. -And for the Additions this is src/VBox/Additions/linux/export_modules. So, what may I do? I would just go with a, but I think your choices are: a) Ship fail-mbr.bin as part of the package source and don't build it - You already seem to be shipping it with the source - This should be OK as long as you also distribute the .S and Makefile.am, and if fail-mbr.bin can be proven to be built from the same source. b) Split the fail-mbr into a separate arch:all package and only build it when binary-indep is called. You can then say in README.source that this extra package can only be built on x86. The buildds won't try and build it. c) Build a cross toolchain as part of your build process. You might be able to get away with just binutils here. You can build-depend on binutils-source to get the source. The closest issue which I could imagine among debian packages is the build system of the package firmware-free; however I could not understand, while inspecting loosely this package, whether there were real source files in the package and whether there is any chance to buils any binary from source. When I try to debuild this package with an amd64 machine, nothing is built, binaries are just copied. firmware-free doesn't actually build anything, it just ships all the binaries. The exact version of the good par2 is 0.4-11 ( the one on wheezy/oldstable) I attach 4 files corresponding to some tests I made with this bug. I generated a random file of 20MB, then created some par2 with the 0.6 version : par2 c testdatafile Then I have applied 2 different types of modification with a hex editor : 1 - a modification of one byte at the beginning of the test file, resulting in the corruption of one data block. Bug#770631: statsmodels: Build-Depends on nodejs not satisfiable on some architectures
The upstream documentation is a bit unclear, but I read somewhere that statsmodels' documentation can be built with pandoc. On amd64 I was able to build statsmodels after uninstalling nodejs and installing pandoc instead. A package called pandoc sounds like a more obvious choice for building documentation than a package called nodejs so I suggest you replace the nodejs Build-Depends in debian/control with pandoc. There are several architectures that have pandoc but not nodejs: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=nodejssuite=sid https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=pandocsuite=sid There is currently one architecture, kfreebsd-i386, that has nodejs but not pandoc, but that is probably just a temporary problem as kfreebsd-i386 has always has it in the past: https://buildd.debian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=pandocarch=kfreebsd-i386 If you did want to insert a work-around for the temporary problem then you would presumably replace nodejs, with something like: nodejs [kfreebsd-i386] | pandoc, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#785161: kbuild: module-assistant fails to build virtualbox-source
I'm a bit confused about the snipped you post: if I understand right, the point is that kbuild is not meant to build vbox kernel modules. So to build the modules I'm supposed to do something like ./configure make make install ? is that right? if so, i think that this bug should be reassigned to virtualbox-source package rather than closed. The reason is that inside the source shipped with virtualbox-source there is a rule file full of kmk rules that should be converted to the standard make rules. Otherwise I don't see the reason of having a virtualbox-source package that fail to build the vbox module with m-a and that, as far as I know, is used only by module-assistant. correct me if I'm wrong Lorenzo 2015-05-13 12:08 GMT+02:00 Gianfranco Costamagna costamagnagianfra...@yahoo.it: I talked on irc with virtualbox/upstream folks (who always have the best solution :) ) this is a snippet of the conversation: -I don't think this has anything to do with kBuild which we use to compile the VirtualBox source code. Bug#785208: adjtimex postinst adjusts clock
Package: adjtimex Version: 1.29-3 Severity: normal The postinst script for the adjtimex package insists on running adjtimex to perform some clock adjustment. This is silly. At the time the package is installed or upgraded, the system is already running, quite likely with the clock already well regulated (especially if this was an upgrade). In my case, I'm regulating the clock with ntpd, so adjtimex should never be automatically run outside the boot sequence. The postinst script should not be performing any clock adjustment. It seems that, as with ntpdate in Bug#714997, the package is conflating the desire to install a tool with the desire to use it in a particular way. adjtimex is useful for much more than just the automatic adjustment that the postinst script contemplates. I use it mainly in read-only mode to watch what in fine detail what ntpd and the kernel are doing with the clock. -zefram -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Source: qtbase-opensource-src Version: 5.4.1+dfsg-2 Severity: normal I'm using an OBS-based autobuilder which does not appear to configure name resolution in its chroots: instead of using apt, it finds build-dependencies on its own and includes them in a clean debootstrap. Bug#785163: [Pkg-phototools-devel] Bug#785163: darktable: package dependency on libjs-scriptaculous:amd64 prevents installation
Norman Ramsey n...@cs.tufts.edu writes: Marking the package with the plus sign resulted in an error messages that two dependencies of darktable:amd64 are not satisfied. They are libjs-prototype:amd64 libjs-scriptaculous:amd64 The problem is not with darktable per se, but rather with the libraries that darktable depends on. As long as you cannot install liblensfun0:amd64 with apt (apt-get or aptitude), then there is nothing the darktable packaging can do about it. Similarly, libjs-prototype and libjs-scriptaculous need Multi-Arch: foreign or Multi-Arch: allowed declarations. For your second question, you could file a bug on liblensfun0 (and on the js libs you mention above). I'm not sure how likely this is to be fixed in a stable updated, but I guess users of future versions might thank you. d -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I think I remember some discussion of something in this area not too long ago on xen-devel. CC-s added. Konrad, do you know of any issues with ucode=scan in 4.4? Bug#785196: kfreebsd-image-10-amd64: Console has no output in qemu -display curses
Hi Jan, Jan Henke wrote: I am using kFreeBSD as a QEMU/KVM guest. I recently changed the QEMU configuration to use the curses display (instead of opening a VNC server). Can you still access GRUB menus from this? I think you simply need to set this flag in the kfreebsd menu entry: set kFreeBSD.hw.vga.textmode=1 or more permanently in /etc/grub.d/10_kfreebsd. If you don't see the GRUB menu, uncomment GRUB_TERMINAL=console in /etc/default/grub which should fix that too. Or maybe a serial console is practical here. You can append the kfreebsd line with -D and then invoke Qemu with -serial stdio for example. Also uncomment the cuau0 line in /etc/inittab to get a login terminal. With an upstream FreeBSD guest that causes no problem, I can see the console during boot and can also login locally. I guess that means they don't enable the VGA console by default (although I thought they did, and maybe Debian GNU/Linux does too?). It is rather important to support more character sets and enable more locales. It unfortunately breaks Qemu -display curses, or some older BMC/iLO/ILOM devices for remote console access to servers. Perhaps we can keep VGA by default, but make it easier to choose textmode with an option in the GRUB 'Advanced startup options' submenu; and some way to allow the admin to make that the default. Bug#785200: openvpn: boot hangs on auto interfaces using openvpn under systemd
Package: openvpn Version: 2.3.4-5 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, A system booting under systemd will hang indefinitely when an interface is configured via openvpn and marked auto in interfaces(5), e.g.: auto vpniface iface vpniface inet manual openvpn somevpn (with AUTOSTART=none set in /etc/default/openvpn) What happens is that when the networking.service runs 'ifup -a', the script /etc/network/if-up.d/openvpn calls 'systemctl start openvpn@somevpn' but because the openvpn@.service unit has an implicit dependency on basic.target, and because basic.target is not yet active while networking.service is starting, systemd deadlocks with the following message displayed on the console: [ *** ] A start job is running for LSB: Raise network interfaces. I was able to avoid the problem by adding this directive to the openvpn@.service unit file: DefaultDependencies=false This breaks the dependency loop on basic.target, and allows the openvpn interfaces to be brought up during boot. However, I am not certain whether this is entirely correct and appropriate. Please examine the problem and this possible solution, and adjust as appropriate. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Andreas Tille ti...@debian.org * Package name: r-bioc-multtest Version : 2.24.0 Upstream Author : Katherine S. Pollard * URL : http://bioconductor.org/packages/release/bioc/html/multtest.html * License : LGPL Programming Lang: R Description : Bioconductor resampling-based multiple hypothesis testing Non-parametric bootstrap and permutation resampling-based multiple testing procedures (including empirical Bayes methods) for controlling the family-wise error rate (FWER), generalized family-wise error rate (gFWER), tail probability of the proportion of false positives (TPPFP), and false discovery rate (FDR). Several choices of bootstrap-based null distribution are implemented (centered, centered and scaled, quantile-transformed). Single-step and step-wise methods are available. Tests based on a variety of t- and F-statistics (including t-statistics based on regression parameters from linear and survival models as well as those based on correlation parameters) are included. When probing hypotheses with t-statistics, users may also select a potentially faster null distribution which is multivariate normal with mean zero and variance covariance matrix derived from the vector influence function. Results are reported in terms of adjusted p-values, confidence regions and test statistic cutoffs. The procedures are directly applicable to identifying differentially expressed genes in DNA microarray experiments. Bug#785137: ITP: fwupdate -- Tools to manage UEFI firmware updates
(Just filling in details of my thoughts here, not arguing for or against however you guys decide to name things.) He pointed out that: - While there may be other platforms with firmware update mechanisms that work in Linux, they're fringe. There's already flashrom, which is also generically named but does support a wider variety of older flash firmware. ethtool can update firmware for some network cards. Many vendors provide specific tools to update firmware on Linux. - It's in Fedora as fwupdate already, so having a different name is confusing. (I don't think I said this, and it isn't - fwupd is, which is a gnome tool that will optionally use fwupdate.) Having a generic name which has already been used many times over is also confusing. Having no documentation is *really* confusing. Yeah; it's still a relatively new project, and I'm well aware I need to write a lot of docs. - Its name doesn't currently collide with other software. Oracle has a program of this name for several operating systems including Linux: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19960-01/html/821-2488/gyuui.html Huh. For reasons I suspect are obvious, I'd really only looked for tools that are free software/open source/etc. - If there are other open standards for updating firmware, he'll happily add support for those. All of them? I doubt it. So there are three-ish categories here: 1) updating system firmware 2) updating firmware on a peripheral 3) writing programmable parts whether they're firmware or not. As far as I know, there's 1 open standard for the first thing, the same open standard for a subset of the second thing, a couple of common things that aren't really open for the second thing (though the ethtool API is at least a de facto standard for it in a way), and then flashrom et al doing the third thing. Just FWIW I'm perfectly open to any open standard for the first thing, and I'd like to get to the point where we can handle the second with this utility as well for all the cases where we know how (which could involve a DSO plugin API or whatnot at some point...). The third thing, I don't really a firmware update, even if you're using it to update system firmware - and the class of system where you can do so by e.g. banging on SPI pins that are memory mapped is rapidly dying off anyway. So, unless there's a compelling reason (actually several given the above), I'm going to stick with fwupdate. It really doesn't matter to me what you call it in debian fwiw ;) For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism. - Harrison Perfect :) -- Peter -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#785186: csladspa: Update to version 6.05 crashes finch

But it would be great if you could try both a valid path (any path will do) and an empty string. It does src = strdup(getenv(LADSPA_PATH)); in frontends/csladspa/csladspa.cpp which will inevitably crash if LADSPA_PATH is unset, because in that case getenv() returns NULL instead of a pointer to . That is exactly what I was trying to test (I'm not on my debian workstation ATM). Note that strdup(NULL) is undefined so this may well have worked (and returned NULL, which is correctly handled) in the past. -- Saludos, Felipe Sateler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
