Bug#829309: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: Crashes and lockups in kernel 4.x

2016-07-02 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt25-2+deb8u2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

with bpo kernels 4.2 to 4.6, I recently had several crashes. In two
cases I got a kernel bug (log included below). In two other cases
the system locked up completely. It might be related to my old Radeon
card (HD 2400 pro). With kernel 4.6 I had both cases: a lockup
without kernel log and a crash with log. I'm now back to kernel 3.16
which is absolutely stable.

Bug#744911: boxbackup-server: Please update to newest SVN revision

2014-04-16 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: boxbackup-server
Version: 0.11.1~r2837-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

the version of Boxbackup is outdated, it contains errors like
http://lists.boxbackup.org/pipermail/boxbackup/2012-April/006361.html
which make it nonfunctional in some situations.

Bug#744105: audacity: Audacity burns CPU time

2014-04-10 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: audacity
Version: 2.0.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When idle, Audacity uses about 2% CPU time needlessly. It doesn't
matter whether freshly started or after closing projects. strace
shows the following repeated endlessly:

recvmsg(3, 0x7fffc8a25860, 0)   = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=6,
events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=9, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}],
5, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
recvmsg(3, 0x7fffc8a25860, 0)   = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=6,
events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=9, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}],
5, 16) = 0 (Timeout)

So the timeout should probably be much higher, especially when
no project is loaded. It should be trivial to reproduce.

Bug#501229: bins: Perl error can't use string as hash ref

2008-10-13 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Hi,

checked the latest version and it works.

I needed a modified BINS because BINS had massive problems in the past.
I didn't track the changes in Debian, so I kept my modified version.
Thank you for your help.

Bug#501229: bins: Perl error can't use string as hash ref

2008-10-05 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: bins
Version: 1.1.29-12
Severity: normal

Hi,

while refreshing my photo archive for the first time in months I got the
following error:

Can't use string (38/64) as a HASH ref while strict refs in use at
bins line 3753.

Maybe this error occurs since the upgrade to perl 5.10, but I don't know
for sure.

The affected line is:

if (${%$hashref}{$tagName}) {

The line number may not be exact because I'm using a modified BINS.
For me, the fix appears to be the following patch:

Bug#496443: vux: Incorrect signal handling

Hi,

 Can you give me more information, like what vuxctl commands cause the
 problem?

I haven't tested all, but I think all, becaus every command sent causes
a signal which interrupts the wait.

Bug#496443: vux: Incorrect signal handling

2008-08-24 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: vux
Version: 0.4.9
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

when sending a command to vux via vuxctl, vux spawns a new player which
results in multiple songs playing or waiting to be played simultaneously.

After a long search I suspected the wait function to be the cause of this.
When I concentrated on this is didn't take long to find and fix the bug.
The wait is interrupted by the HUP signal sent by vuxctl, and vux should
continue to wait after that. Here's the patch:

Bug#395098: bins: Bins is very slow, eats memory and makes unnecessary system calls

2006-10-24 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: bins
Version: 1.1.29-6
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

On my system bins was not able to complete album creation without a
patch. The patch (attached) removes some unnecessary system() calls
and replaces them by Perl functions.

However, bins still eats memory and therefore becomes very slow.
Here's a line from top:

24812 hans  25   0  998m 553m  72m R 76.7 54.6  92:11.21 bins

That's with only a few 1000 photos (4.4 GB). I don't know where the
memory leaks but perhaps a few undefs in the right places would fix
it.

Bug#342100: mozilla-firefox: Enable parallel install of firefox 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0

2005-12-05 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.4.99+1.5rc3.dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

clearly, I can install one version of Firefox from the Debian archive
and the others from official install packages, but I think it would
be preferrable to have multiple Debian versions installed.

This might be a topic to be discussed more generally because it could
also affect many other packages. Perhaps a general mechanism to allow
parallel versions is needed, I don't know if this is already discussed.

Best regards,
hjb

Bug#314588: digikam: Too much disk space used

2005-06-17 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: digikam
Version: 0.7.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

apparently digikam and digikamimageplugins install full documentation
in /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML. In all languages where usually only one is
needed. This uses up about 100 MB of valuable /usr space.

It should be a separate doc package, and the language(s) should be
selectable.

Regards,
hjb

Bug#309141: mambo: Error in postinstall

2005-05-14 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: mambo
Version: 4.5.1a-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

in postinstall.sh there are lines like

dbadmin=$dba_name
dbadmpass=$dba_password
dbuser=$dbu_name
dbpass=$dbu_password

If one of these variables contains funny characters this will fail. The
lines must be:

dbadmin=$dba_name
dbadmpass=$dba_password
dbuser=$dbu_name
dbpass=$dbu_password

There may be more lines to be changed.

hjb

Bug#302992: slapd gets in endless loop with sched_yield

2005-04-03 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: slapd
Version: 2.1.30-3
Severity: important

Since a few hours slapd hangs during start. strace shows that it
permanently does sched_yield and nothing else. It can only be killed
with kill -9 or kill -2.

Adding a -d 32767 option for slapd apparently shows nothing. The PID
file isn't crated, perhaps it hangs before it comes to that point. I
cannot tell if the BDB database is corrupt but none of its files has
a recent timestamp.

The configuration hasn't changed in the last 14 months and the demon
was running during the 26 days of system uptime. It's a SMP system.

I have updated some packages slapd depends on (like libgnutls11) but
it didn't help.

slapd was running with the following arguments:
/usr/sbin/slapd -h ldap:/// ldaps:/// -g ldap -u ldap -4

Here's a stack trace (I wonder if that can be correct, I guess it's
bdb_db_open rather than bdb_bt_compare:

Bug#291343: moosic: Select songs by length

2005-01-19 Thread Hans-Joachim Baader
Package: moosic
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it would be nice if the moosic command could select songs based on their
length, eg.

moosic --longer 1:00 --shorter 8:00 play

This way, songs that are too short (intros etc.) or too long would be
omitted.

hjb
