Bug#683391: Should recommend or suggest xmlstarlet

2012-07-31 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Package: emacs23-common
Version: 23.2+1-7
Severity: minor

When flymake-mode is active and an HTML file is opened, emacs gives an error if
xmlstarlet is not installed. To avoid this, it would be good if emacs at least
suggested xmlstarlet.

I've seen you filled and ITP, that became an RFP again because of 6

Bug#466912: options to tar/zip

Hi Robert.

I think what Luca meant was something like:

$ git archive --format=tar \

That is, giving options to tar. If that's not what was meant, that's
something I'd like to see.

Hi Eric.

What's the current status of this? I noticed that the git repository has some
recent commits, and that you just recently has changed the RFP from Lucas to

What's missing? Is there a to do list? Is the package, as it is, usable?

Bug#634911: emacs23: Flymake depends on locale

2011-07-20 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Package: emacs23
Version: 23.1+1-4ubuntu7.2
Severity: normal

Flymake requires that LANG=C, because it searchs for keywords in English on the

LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8. It should set LANG=C before calling the command.

No, I'm getting it's funcionality from gnomeConfig, I guess. Is there a reason

hmm, gnomeConfig should include the EWMH functionality. Does the
workspace switcher display the windows as they are manged by xmonad for
 you?

Yes, it does. With some minor glitches, like when you create a window in
another workspace, it doesn't show it correctly, but I guess this is the same
with EWMH.

Bug#617467: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#617467: Debian’s cabal-install should not recomment updating cabal-install

2011-05-19 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Hi Joachim.

Excerpts from Joachim Breitner's message of Qua Mar 09 02:45:08 -0300 2011:
(...)
 cabal-install currently suggests:

Note: there is a new version of cabal-install available.
To upgrade, run: cabal install cabal-install

which makes perfect sense for user-installed cabal-install instances.
But I think the version packaged by Debian should not recommend this, as
Debian users more likely prefer updating cabal-install via apt-get.

Do you think it should:

1) Be removed?
2) Check if this is the newer debian version (probably in the sources.list from
the user) and suggest updating using apt-get?

I tend to prefer 1, but I'd like to hear your, and others, point of view on
this.

Greetings.

these (#267060 and #506973) are bugs in bash, which it seem aren't going to be
fixed anyway, so I'm closing them.

Maybe they should left open, to avoid someone from reporting them again. In
case the bug is fixed they can be closed, but until then, I don't see a problem
in leaving them open.

What do you think?

Greetings.

Bug#622625: ITP: haskell-blaze-builder -- an abstraction of buffered output of byte streams

2011-04-13 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva mar...@debian.org

* Package name: haskell-blaze-builder
  Version : 0.2.1.4
Upstream Author : Simon Meier iridc...@gmail.com
* URL : http://hackage.haskell.org/package/blaze-builder
* License : BSD3
  Programming Lang: Haskell
Description : an abstraction of buffered output of byte streams

This package provides a library for the Haskell programming language.
See http://www.haskell.org/ for more information on Haskell.
 .
This library provides an abstraction of buffered output of byte streams and
several convenience functions to exploit it. For example, it allows to
efficiently serialize Haskell values to lazy bytestrings with a large average
chunk size. The large average chunk size allows to make good use of cache
prefetching in later processing steps (e.g. compression) and reduces the sytem
call overhead when writing the resulting lazy bytestring to a file or sending
 it over the network.

Bug#622675: Should use new HaXml

2011-04-13 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Package: hpodder
Version: 1.1.5.0+nmu2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi.

The new stable version of HaXml is 1.20. This patch makes it build with the
new HaXml. We're planning to upload the new version of HaXml and it would be
good to have all packages buildable with the new HaXml after that.

Greetings.

Bug#568510: I couldn't disable haskell-indentation-mode in .emacs.el

2011-03-29 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Hi.

It may be that the few Emacs Lisp I know was not enough, but I couldn't disable
haskell-indentation-mode in .emacs.el, although I could disable it calling M-x
haskell-indentation-mode. I tried:

(defun ci ()
  (interactive)
  (haskell-indentation-mode t)
  (haskell-indentation-mode nil)
  (haskell-indent-mode nil)
  (haskell-indent-mode t))

(add-hook
 'haskell-mode-hook
 'ci)

Calling M-x ci works, the hook is called, but it doesn't work as expected. I'm
using haskell-mode from darcs while I can't configure this. A workaround for
this problem would be good.

The scroll doesn't move, and the content cannot be selected.

I can't reproduce this. Selecting text on a typical long page
(planet.debian.org, say) and dragging down causes it to scroll.

 Ideas?

Actually, no. I can still reproduce this bug. Maybe this is something related
to some configuration here on my box, but I don't remember having change any of
chromium-browser's configuration, and I don't know about its internals to guess
what could be going wrong. Is there anything I could send you that would give
information about the specifics of my box?

That's what I tried to do above. I'll try to fill the blanks now, if anything
is missing, please ask me again so that I can provide more details.

In particular, I am not sure how to load the br_nt layout

I don't know how to do it in a non-intrusive way. The way I do is, I copy
br_nt file to /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ and change
/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.xml to know of br_nt existence, like in
http://marcot.eti.br/data/etc/evdev.xml .

--- what program do you use, and does it matter whether chromium is open at

No, I don't think this is related, since the layout is loaded when GNOME is
started.

Bug#536905: Drop helium or keep uuagc

helium is in testing but not buildable:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=598174
due to uuagc missing there. Uuagc has an RC bug:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=536905

Looking at the hackage page, uuagc is actively maintained, but does not
seem to have any uess in Debian. Drop it (and thus helium?) or keep it?

This bug seems to be already corrected in the newer upstream version, which
builds fine using the current debian/ dir, so I think it will be an easy fix
for us. I'd say we drop it from squeeze, to avoid the inclusion of a new
upstream version now, and correct it for wheezy.

Ciao Giovanni.

Excerpts from Giovanni Mascellani's message of Qui Set 02 07:05:32 -0300 2010:
This seems to be a compiler issue rather than a package specific one.

I tend to agree with you, except for this warning:

Warning: This package indirectly depends on multiple versions of the same
package. This is highly likely to cause a compile failure.

If this is not likely to be the bug cause, maybe this bug should be reassigned
to ghc6 and forwarded upstream.

package network-2.2.1.7 requires parsec-2.1.0.1
package debian-3.47 requires parsec-3.1.0

So, reconsidering for bug #584855, it seems that it's not a compiler bug, but
rather a problem with using two versions of the same package.

Greetings.

GHC -threaded option only works in x86 arches (i386 and amd64). Is it really
needed in all cases? Maybe, if you want to keep -threaded as default, you can
create a threaded flag, like how it is done in hlint[0]. This was included in
hlint after the same bug[1] happened with this package.

gnome-vfs is deprecated upstream and we want to remove it from the archive

Since it doesn't seem to be used by any package, please consider
removing it now from the archive so that no new applications
 start using it.

The fact that there's no package in the archive that uses it doesn't mean it
doesn't have any users. Assuming there are users of this package, I think it
should stay until it doesn't work anymore.

I'll add a note in it's description telling the users that it's deprecated and
shouldn't be used in new packages, and that they should use GIO. Is it good
enough for you?

Well, popcon is rather low[1], and keeping it only encourages its use. I'd
rather we remove it now. If there's people using it (for private stuff I
 guess,
since nothing in the archive uses it) they can build haskell-gnomevfs manually
(as they will be building their stuff) or even better, port their code to
 GIO/GVFS.

I'd rather we remove it now.

I don't see bugs like these in other languages bindings:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?ordering=normal;archive=0;src=gnome-python;dist=unstable;repeatmerged=0

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?package=libgnomevfs2-ruby

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=libgnome2-vfs-perl;dist=unstable

And not even in the C library:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?ordering=normal;archive=0;src=gnome-vfs;dist=unstable;repeatmerged=0

The C library description does not even mention that it's deprecated:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/libgnomevfs2-dev

So I don't see a reason to request its removal, or even to change it's
description, since this haven't been done anywhere else in the archive. As you
said, this is planned to Squeeze + 1, so there's no point in removing it now.

I'm tagging it moreinfo and changing the severity to whishlist instead of
closing or wontfix, because if you can give me more arguments about why this
package should be removed I can change my mind.

Greetings.

first up, it has been agreed that CCing -devel on a series of related
ITPs is not necessary, just sending a summary would be useful.

Ok. I'm using reportbug, and there's not the option of not Ccing to -devel on
it. Do you have a suggestion of how should I fill the ITPs?

Is this for gnome-vfs2, or gvfs? The former is deprecated.

It's gnome-vfs2. I know it's deprecated, but the libghc6-gnomevfs-dev package
is already in the Debian archive, and this is a new version of it. I don't
think I should stop packaging the package that upstream stills distribute
because it's deprecated.

If it wasn't before in Debian, I'd agree with you

cloning the POSIX API, but providing higher-level, document-centric

Description : Fast, high quality pseudo random number generation

This package provides a library for the Haskell programming language.
See http://www.haskell.org/ for more information on Haskell.
 .
This package contains code for generating high quality random numbers that
follow either a uniform or normal distribution. The generated numbers are
suitable for use in statistical applications.
 .
The uniform PRNG uses Marsaglia's MWC256 (also known as MWC8222)
multiply-with-carry generator, which has a period of 2^8222 and fares well in
tests of randomness. It is also extremely fast, between 2 and 3 times faster
 than the Mersenne Twister.
 .
Compared to the mersenne-random package, this package has a more convenient
API, is faster, and supports more statistical distributions.

Marco, do you seen any problem with this change?

No, it seems to be very straightforward to me. Feel free to apply it.

Bug#576094: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#576094: please provide upgrade path for haskell-hdbc-doc

2010-04-16 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Hi.

Excerpts from Stefan Potyra's message of Qua Mar 31 18:11:29 -0300 2010:
 Package: libghc6-hdbc-doc
(...)
as I noticed, you have changed the binary name of the -doc package from
haskell-hdbc-doc to libghc6-hdbc-doc. The usual approach to do so is to
add a dummy package with the old name depending on the package with the
 new name.

We need to do it to all packages listed in
http://wiki.debian.org/Haskell/CollabMaint/UploadCoordination . Help is
welcome from DDs and not-DDs.

How to help:

* Put your name in front of the package in the page.
* Include the dummy package as suggested in
  http://wiki.debian.org/Renaming_a_Package , Method A.
* Check that the generated dummy package is empty, and the new -doc package has
  the right files.
* Push the changes
* Do the upload, if you're a DD
* After the upload is done, cross the package name in the wiki page.

Thanks.

Bug#577830: Split filenames of $dumpfile and $readmem in amd64

2010-04-14 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Package: gplcver
Version: 2.12a-1.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch upstream

Hi.

This bug is also reported in:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gplcver/+bug/243980

For instance, using:

$dumpfile(teste-disco.vcd); // it creates isco.vcd
$dumpfile(disco.vcd); // it creates isco.vcd
$dumpfile(isco.vcd); // it creates nothing
$dumpfile(o.vcd); // it creates nothing

This patch fixes the issue.

Bug#576447: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#576447: haskell-devscripts: Haskell cleanup fails if optional hlibrary.setup is missing

2010-04-04 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Hi Jonas.

Excerpts from Jonas Smedegaard's message of Dom Abr 04 15:53:38 -0300 2010:
(...)
The clean rule contains the following:

   [ -x $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) ] $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) clean

That is plain wrong, as it will then fail if the test fails.

 The following (untested!) should work:

   [ ! -x $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) ] || $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) clean

Sorry about this, my bad. I'll do an upload right now to correct it.

(...)
My offer to adopt hlibrary.mk as part of cdbs still stands. And I will
gladly help you get proper access so as to be able to speedily apply any
 Haskell-specific changes.

I agree with Joachim that hlibrary.mk should be kept together with
dh_haskell_*. Why don't you help us maintaining it in haskell-devscripts? Any
help will be very welcome.

Greetings.

Correct. You'd have to discuss with Joey if he feels similar about addon
debhelper modules. And if you do, I am curious about his response - he
is a wise guy and even if we disagree on design principles (I dislike
how short-form dh7 reinvents make, and he dislikes all of cdbs, I
guess), I am sure we can learn from his viewpoints :-)

We're considering moving the CDBS class hlibrary.mk from haskell-devscripts to
the cdbs package. In haskell-devscripts there's also some dh_haskell_*
(shell) scripts; do you think they also should move to the debhelper package,
or it's better to keep them in a separate package, as they are now?

Other haskellers: What's your opinion on this?

I think that if we should only move hlibrary.mk outside haskell-devscripts if
the dh_haskell_* scripts also move out, and we can remove the package from the
archive.

If that's not the case, I'd like to ask the cdbs maintainers to help us in
maintaining the code style in sync with the other snippets.

Greetings.

Bug#575128: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#575128: haskell-devscripts: hlibrary.mk should do cleanup

Hi Jonas.

Excerpts from Jonas Smedegaard's message of Ter Mar 23 14:27:20 -0300 2010:

As subject says, hlibrary.mk really should invoke the Haskell cleanup
 routine.

For inspiration, the following apparently was sufficient for the pandoc
 package:

 DEB_PHONY_RULES += haskell-clean
 cleanbuilddir:: haskell-clean
 haskell-clean:
 [ ! -x $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) ] || $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) clean

Isn't the commands in clean:: enough?

clean::
rm -rf dist dist-ghc6 dist-hugs $(DEB_SETUP_BIN_NAME) Setup.hi Setup.ho
Setup.o .*config*
rm -f build-ghc6-stamp build-hugs-stamp build-haddock-stamp
rm -rf debian/tmp-inst-ghc6

I feel it best to maintain CDBS snippets as part of the cdbs package
itself, so that the coding style can most easily be kept in sync across
 snippets.

It's a good point.

The cdbs package is maintained in the collab-maint group at Alioth which
means all Debian developers already have write access and anyone else
can request membership of the group as well - just mention your reason
for needing such membership when requesting it: for helping co-maintain
 cdbs.

Would it be possible to make a CDBS release immediately when I, for instance,
want a change in the haskell snippet to be in the archive, to make it sync with
the new release of the dh_haskell* scripts? I'm assuming you're not saying I
should include the dh_haskell* scripts in the CDBS package.

If this is possible, I see no problem in moving hlibrary.mk to the cdbs
package.

If Haskell is too fast-moving for maintainance with cdbs, then it might
make sense to separate tiny parts into something shipped with the Haskel
tools - similar to how Python ships their competing python-central and
puthon-module tools, which several CDBS snippets then make use of
 through a commandline interface.

Are you talking here about Makefiles or dh_* kind of scripts?

Haskell is not too fast moving, but when there's a change needed, we often need
it to be applied and released immediately, since there are libraries waiting
to be uploaded.

Thanks for your suggestions!
