Bug#1054387: vagrant: pkeys are immutable on OpenSSL 3.0

2023-10-22 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: vagrant
Version: 2.3.4+dfsg-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I can no longer bring up VMs, they fail with `pkeys are immutable on
OpenSSL 3.0`.

This appears to be because a newer build is required with new net-ssh
dependencies: https://github.com/hashicorp/vagrant/issues/12985

Can you please update? Thanks!

Bug#1054261: tint2 coredumps on startup

2023-10-19 Thread Phil Dibowitz

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Despite what the message says, even if you define G_SLICE=always-malloc,
it still prints that message:

```
[phil@rider ~]$ export G_SLICE=always-malloc
tint2: Using glib slice allocator (default). Run tint2 with environment
```

The internet believes it's due to newer glibc2:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=284293

I'm using openbox.

Bug#1037346: Lost all emails during update

2023-07-01 Thread Phil Dibowitz
OK I've updated my copy of the script to properly handle both
underscores and spaces:

https://github.com/jaymzh/recover-cyrus/blob/main/recover_cyrus_user.sh

Hope that helps others!

On 7/1/23 18:32, Phil Dibowitz wrote:

Your script does:

   ln -f ${OLDPATH//_/\\ }/\* $NEWPATH

But the substitution there is incorrect - the folders with `_` in them,
actually have that in their file path.

I've fixed up the script a bit and thrown it into a public repo, so
others can easily access it and hack on it as well:

Bug#1037346: cyrus-imapd: all emails disappeared after upgrading from bullseye to bookworm (similar to #1007965)

2023-06-22 Thread Phil Dibowitz

Kai,

Thanks so much for your work here, I've been panicking about my email.

This script is a HUGE help. I noticed one thing though, in the linking,
it doesn't really handle nested folders, so I get a ton of:

ln: /var/spool/cyrus/mail/p/user/phil/lists/linuxdriver: hard link not
allowed for directory

And one small thing, it might be useful for others if the 'echo's before
the first bash gave the command to run to feed the file to cyradm, so
you don't have to go back to the script to find it.

Thanks!

You must compare with /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi.signed from shim-signed.

Ah, thanks. At least I know I did the grub-install right:

```
$ sum /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi.signed /boot/EFI/EFI/debian/shimx64.efi
36147   913 /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi.signed
36147   913 /boot/EFI/EFI/debian/shimx64.efi
```

So I guess that means that the shimx64.efi that's distributed with
shim-signed is, in fact, vulnerable, as proposed in the original bug.

Any timeline on updating it?

Bug#990447: Similar problems

2023-02-01 Thread Phil Dibowitz

I'm also unable to update to the latest uefi-dbx:

```
$ fwupdmgr update
Blocked executable in the ESP, ensure grub and shim are up to date:
/boot/EFI/EFI/debian/shimx64.efi Authenticode checksum
present in dbx
```

I am on the latest shims though:

```
root@rider:/boot/EFI/EFI/debian# dpkg -l | awk '/ shim/ {print $1"
"$2"\t\t"$3}'
ii node-set-immediate-shim  2.0.0-2
ii shim-helpers-amd64-signed1+15.6+1
ii shim-signed:amd641.38+15.4-7
ii shim-signed-common   1.38+15.4-7
ii shim-unsigned15.7-1
```

And I've run `grub-install` with my EFI dir mounted. What's interesting
is the version in EFI is different than the version staged by the package:

```
# sum /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi /boot/EFI/EFI/debian/shimx64.efi
47979   918 /usr/lib/shim/shimx64.efi
36147   913 /boot/EFI/EFI/debian/shimx64.efi
```

I even explicitly ran it with `--uefi-secure-boot` to ensure it installs
the shim binary.

I found the culprit!

gnome-remote-desktop caused pipewire and friends to get installed. Even
with `pipewire-pulse` installed, audio was unusable when pipewire was
installed.

Removing all pipewire packages allowed audio to work again.

Updated to 2803. It gets rid of the ACPI error, but does not fix the
problem. It still hard freezes at a blank screen with a cursor in the
top left.

In recovery mode, or in 5.10, after this the screen flashes and then it
starts mounting filesystems, but on recent kernels in normal mode, it
never gets there.

Dear Maintainer,

I cannot boot any Debian kernel after 5.10.0-3. I've tried 5.14, 5.17,
5.18, 5.19, and 6.0.0.

6.0.0 will boot if I use 'recovery mode', and then I can exit from
single-user mode, and it continues booting and the machine runs just
fine.

But if I do not select recovery, then the whole machine hard-freezes
after:

```
ACPI VIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCIO.GPP8._DSM],
AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20220331/dswload2-326)
ACPI ERror: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog
(20220331/psobject-220)
```

But 5.10 ALSO has this error, but continues on just fine. Anything after
5.10, once it hits that the whole machine freezes hard and I have to hit
the physical power reset to reboot the system (alt+ctrl+del does not
work).

I've checked the grub entries and the kernel commandline options between
kernels and they are identical.

This bug is not reported from the "bad" kernel, because I can't boot
that kernel (in normal mode).

Let me know what other debugging information I can provide. Thanks!

Bug#1006350: pidgin: crashes when typing past visible number of lines

2022-02-23 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.14.8-2
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

It seems 2.14.6 introduced a bug where Pidgin crashes when the user
types somethign longer than the visible number of lines - not always,
but often.

This has been reported upstream here:
https://issues.imfreedom.org/issue/PIDGIN-17568

However, due to the Debian perl 5.34 transition
(https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2022/02/msg0.html),
downgrading to the previous package - 2.14.1 - isn't particularly
feasible.

Upstream is in fact working on a fix it seems to be a weird race
condition in creating scrollbars. In the meantime, rebuilding a version
from < 2.14.6 would prevent this bug from hitting testing/stable users.

Bug#1003798: fluxbox: replace FbRootWindow::depth with maxDepth

2022-01-15 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: fluxbox
Version: 1.3.7-1~exp1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

There is a bug in upstream fluxbox which has been patched which causes
new 32-bit windows to appear without borders, and unable to be
interacted with in anyway. This includes Firefox, Thunderbird and a
variety of other applications.

Large windows that cannot be moved, closed, or otherwise interacted with
renders fluxbox nearly useless.

There is an upstream patch:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?dist=unstable;package=fluxbox

There is more discussion here:
https://sourceforge.net/p/fluxbox/bugs/1102/

and in this mozilla bug I had originally filed thinking it was a problem
over there:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1714353

Fluxbox has not released a new version, unfortunately, but if we could
apply this patch, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
- Phil

Yes, the installation-guide under
https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/amd64/apbs04.en.html
even explicitly states this, indeed:

# If you want to force a hostname, regardless of what either the DHCP # server
returns or what the reverse DNS entry for the IP is, uncomment # and adjust the
following line. #d-i netcfg/hostname string somehost

Thanks for pointing that out! Don't know how I missed that.

However, that requires a per-host preseed, where as with kernel command
line I can have the same preseed for all my hosts (or at least all hosts
in a certain category) and simply just pass in a hostname in the
tftpseed (which has to be host specific anyway and for me is already
generated by my provisioning system).

So perhaps it would be useful to have a like netcfg/hostname_priority
flag where one can choose a priority order?

Bug#983835: base-installer: hostname= is ignored if reverse-dns exists

2021-03-01 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: base-installer
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i

Dear Maintainer,

When doing a network-install of a system, if one passes `hostname=foo`
on the kernel commandline, the installer will use that to set the
hostname of the installed system...

EXCEPT if there's reverse-DNS for the IP address that we happen to have
gotten from DHCP, in which case that takes precedence. But it shouldn't,
we very explicitly are requesting a hostname to set.

This situation happens in environments with dynamic dns where a client
may have released an IP, the DHCP gave it out to this new client, but
there's still a DNS cache with the old mapping.

The installer should prefer the explicit preference set by the
adminsitrator over the implicit one. Or, at the very least provide a
configuration option to enable such a behavior.

Bug#977398: base-installer: kernel selection cannot work with user-configured repos

2020-12-14 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: base-installer
Severity: normal

As it stands today, the installer will always fail to find kernels in
private mirrors defined in a preseed.

This is true, even if you add keys with `apt-setup/local0/key` and set
`debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated` and
`debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated_ssl`.

The reason is an ordering issue. It took a while to dig through the code
enough to put this altogether, but here's how it falls out.

Inside of `pick_kernel`, we look at `$KERNEL_LIST` which is populated
(in `kernel_update_list`), but calling:

```
chroot /target apt-cache search "^(kernel|$KERNEL_NAME)-image"
```

Unfortunately, apt inside of the target is not setup until _after_
`base-installer` in the `apt-setup` package. We _have_ setup apt in the
installer (`configure_apt` and `apt_update` are before `pick_kernel`),
so the _installation_ of any kernel _would_ work. Unfortuantely, we won't
_find_ any of the relevant kernels because the `apt-cache` run inside of
the target won't work as none of the keys have been dropped off and so
`apt-cache` ignores any private mirrors that have been added.

This is also seen in the logs, here's base-isntaller deciding on
kernels:
```
Dec 12 09:50:26 base-installer: info: kernel linux-signed-generic usable on
amd64
```

And here's it grabbing keys from `apt-setup/local0/key`:

```
Dec 12 09:51:15 main-menu[1220]: (process:777): 2020-12-12 09:51:11
URL:http://INTERNAL_HOST/public.gpg [1204/1204] ->
"/target/tmp/_fetch-url_key0.pub.2041" [1]
```

Note that it's a minute later (internal hostname masked).

There is a work around. Since `post_install_hooks` is just before
`pick_kernel`, I've added a `preseed/early_command` that generates a
file in `/usr/lib/base-installer.d` which wget's the key into
`/target/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d`. Of course this will be done by
`apt-setup` just a moment later.

This doesn't seem like a trivial bug to fix. I can see two possible fixes:

1. Install apt-cache into the installer
2. Move kernel installation to a separate package that happens after
`apt-setup`.

There are possibly other options that those more familiar with the
codebase can see.

Several. Times. A. Day.

I'll file an upstream bug, thanks.

2019-05-23 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Some more data:

Tried several reboots, it's very reproducible.

I tried adding the '-' and also tried moving the file to /usr/lib,
either way nothing works.

I tried running `systemd-tmpfiles --create --remove --boot
--exclude-prefix=/dev`, but it doesn't create /run/screen at all. No
matter how I ran it, I could not get it to create that directory.

Poking around a see a few things:

1. I don't see a single entry in the man page that leaves off the 'age'
column. I wonder if newer systemd is ignoring this entry because of
that. From the man page, they have a screen example:

  Example 1. Create directories with specific mode and ownership

  screen(1), needs two directories created at boot with specific modes
  and ownership:

   # /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/screen.conf
   d /run/screens  1777 root screen 10d
   d /run/uscreens 0755 root screen 10d12h

I wouldn't have an age on them that seems scary, but you could have a
'-' to imply no age, changing your config file to:

  d /run/screen 1777 root utmp -

I see other Debian packages leaving it off (like sudo), but all the
internal systemd ones don't like /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/systemd.conf has:

  d /run/user 0755 root root -

Relatedly, since your config file comes in your package, it should
*probably* be in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/ not /etc/tmpfiles.d. :)

I doubt this. Cause I logged in, my windows started up, I started
firefox, pidgin, and thunderbird. Saw an email that required me to open
my password manager, which is usually in screen. Typed "screen -dr",
realized I didn't have a screen session running anymore, ran "screen"
then noticed the error wasn't that there wasn't something to attach to,
but instead that /run/screen didn't exist.

Then I checked to make sure it really didn't exist. Tried 'screen'
again, then made the directory, then tried 'screen' again, then it asked
for it to be 777, I chmod'd it, and then ran 'screen' again.

I don't have the fastest machine in the world, but it's a quad-core Core
i5, I'm pretty sure the startup stuff was done by this point.

BUT this reminds me of an issue I had at work where
`systemd-tmpfiles-setup` wasn't running at boot because of a bad
dependency loop where systemd had trimmed a branch of the tree to
resolve the problem... however, that doesn't seem to be the case here,
`systemd-tmpfiles-setup` ran successfully according to systemctl.

When I have a moment, I'll try to reboot a few times and let you know.

I can do that, but...

I don't think that's the case. Here's the stauts of systemd-tmpfiles-setup:

   Active: active (exited) since Wed 2019-05-22 17:13:48 PDT; 19h ago

And here's the status of xdm:

   Active: active (running) since Wed 2019-05-22 17:13:56 PDT; 19h ago

XDM didn't start until 8 seconds after systemd-tempfiles-setup had exited.

Further the proc directory for screen was created at May 22 20:32, so 9
MINUTES later.

Bug#878944: firefox: Pop-up prefs error on startup

2017-10-17 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: firefox
Version: 57.0~b6-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

[yes I know I'm using experiemental, but I figured it was worth passing
this along anyway]

Just upgraded to 57.0~b6-1 and when I start FF I get a dialog with:

```
[Exception... "Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 0
[nsISupports.QueryInterface]"  nsresult: "0x80570009
(NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS)"  location: "JS frame ::
resource://cck2/Preferences.jsm :: get _prefSvc :: line 544"  data: no]
get _prefSvc@resource://cck2/Preferences.jsm:544:19
_get@resource://cck2/Preferences.jsm:87:1
get@resource://cck2/Preferences.jsm:81:12
init@resource://cck2/CCK2.jsm:149:25
@cck2.cfg:134:1
```

Clicking OK lets FF start up and it seems to operate just fine, so it's
not a show-stopper for me, but I wanted to pass it along.

I imagine there's some preference either from history or from a plugin
the new version doesn't like, or maybe this beta build is missing
something.

Thanks for packaging FF!

2016-12-20 Thread Phil Dibowitz

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

The current version of libgnutls30 cannot read PKCS#8 keys, you get:

  Failed to load private key as PKCS#8: An illegal parameter was found.

when using things like openconnect. This upstream PR fixed the bug:

  https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/merge_requests/185

I tried downgrading to 3.5.6-7 and that worked, though it's no longer in
the repo.

[phil@rider ~]$ gpg --version
gpg (GnuPG) 2.1.11

[phil@rider ~]$ type gpg
gpg is aliased to `/usr/bin/gpg2'

The same results happen calling 'gpg2' directly.

2016-01-15 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: gnupg2

Dear Maintainer,

Sometime recently gpg2.1 stopped handling HKPS keyservers. dirmngr can
still do it if I ask directly, but gpg2.1 won't. All of the debug info I
can think of is below.

Relevant ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf lines:

  keyserver hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net

Relevant ~/.gnupg/dirmngr.conf lines:

  hkp-cacert /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/sks-keyservers.netCA.pem

When I try through gpg (first without debug for clarity) I get:

  $ gpg --search-key 58E11BB1E414D9AD

2015-10-01 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Mmmm, further debugging shows this is a somewhat different problem... if I run
dirmngr in debug mode, it's failing to parse the CA file:

dirmngr[6336.0]: setting CA from file
'/usr/local/share/ca-certificates/sks-keyservers.netCA.crt' failed: ASN1
parser: Error in TAG.

which makes it fail the verification:

dirmngr[6336.0]: TLS verification of peer failed: status=0x0042
dirmngr[6336.0]: TLS verification of peer failed: The certificate is NOT
trusted. The certificate issuer is unknown.

But openssl can read the file:

$ openssl x509 -noout -text -in
/usr/local/share/ca-certificates/sks-keyservers.netCA.crt | grep CN
Issuer: C=NO, ST=Oslo, O=sks-keyservers.net CA, CN=sks-keyservers.net CA
Subject: C=NO, ST=Oslo, O=sks-keyservers.net CA, CN=sks-keyservers.net
CA

The docs say it should be in PEM format, which it is:

$ cat /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/sks-keyservers.netCA.crt

Aha! I figured it out.

It turns out if the filename doesn't end in ".pem", it treats it as a DER
file. Sigh.

Renaming the file and restarting dirmngr fixed.

You can close this now.

Bug#795557: linux-image-linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae: Fails to find init (probably fails to find filesystems)

2015-08-15 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: linux-image-linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae
Version: 3.16.7-ckt11-1+deb8u3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When moving from the 3.10 kernel to the 3.16 kernel, the initramfs that gets
built fails to boot the system. It says it cannot find /sbin/init and drops me
to a '(initramfs)' prompt.

I did some digging around - the md arrays were built, but the LVM vg's weren't
activated. I was able to activate and mount all relevent filesystems, so the
proper tools were in the initramfs.

I tried both the 686-pae and 586 variants (this is on an old P2 machine, but
both should work), but neither work.

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading from 3.10 to 3.16 my system fails to boot - it says it couldn't
find /sbin/init and then dumps me into a (initramfs) prompt.

I poked around and the md arrays are assembled, but the LVM volumes are not
activated. I was able to activate them, so all the necessary tools appear to be
there, so it's unclear what goes wrong.

I tried both the 586 and 686-pae variants (this is on an old PII).

Reverting back to 3.10 enables me to boot.

Bug#624856: rxvt-unicode causes X to segfault

2011-05-02 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 9.10-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After recently rebooting my machine, I could no longer log into XDM... it took a
while to track it down, but it was the rxvt-unicodes I was executing in
.xsession.

Anytime I launch an rxvt-unicode, I get the following segfault:

Before I tracked it down to rxvt-unicode, I thought there might have been a bug
in the unstable release of nvidia, so I tried the experimental versions of
nvidia-kernel-source and nvidia-glx.

Once I narrowed it down to rxvt-unicode, I tried the experimental version of
rxvt-unicode, but that didn't fix it either.

Bug#617996: rsyslog: remote syslog messages not logged

2011-03-13 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: rsyslog
Version: 5.7.8-1
Severity: important

Ever since the 5.7 upgrade which I installed on 2/20, my rsyslog hasn't been
logging messages from remote sources. This started on the 5.7.4-1 package and
has continued with 5.7.4-2, 5.7.5-1, 5.7.6-1, and 5.7.8-1.

It's possible that something around UDP listening changed from the old 4.6
version to 5.7, but I couldn't find anything relevant in the documentation. I
have enabled UDP:

  $ModLoad imudp
  $UDPServerRun 514

and TCP:

  $ModLoad imtcp
  $InputTCPServerRun 514

and for the purposes of testing, I made a line to send all logging to a test
file:

  *.* /var/log/firehouse

and then set another machine (running standard syslog) to transfer all logs to
the rsyslog server:

  *.*  @alt

and ran logger on this other machine. No logs made it to the rsyslog server.

However, it is listening:

  tcp0  0 0.0.0.0:514 0.0.0.0:*   LISTEN 27536/rsyslogd
  tcp6   0  0 :::514  :::*LISTEN 27536/rsyslogd
  udp16008  0 0.0.0.0:514 0.0.0.0:*  27536/rsyslogd
  udp6   0  0 :::514  :::*   27536/rsyslogd

The only clue I've been able to find is these logs when rsyslogd starts:

Mar 13 01:09:43 alt rsyslogd-2163: epoll_ctl failed on fd 1, id 0/0x89378f8, op

http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2163 ]

That URL is a 404.

Well, I actually noticed this because my wireless router's logs weren't
showing up anymore. I setup the other machine as a test.

It's running debian SID (just like the rsyslog server is), and using
standard sysklogd 1.5-6.

 2.6.26 kernels (from lenny) do not support epoll. Is there a reason why you
 run
 wheezy on top of a lenny kernel?
 Could you try updating to at least the squeeze kernel or wheezy/sid and test
 again.
 That said, I'll check if epoll is a compile time check and not a runtime one
 in
 rsyslog.

Completely lack of wanting to reboot? It's running SID. I've installed
2.6.37 and I'll reboot when I get a moment.

 Just to clarify this: What was the last version that you tested and that
 worked
 for you?

The machine runs sid and does an 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade' every
night. The last version that worked from the dpkg logs was 4.6.4-2.

 According to the upstream changelog, epoll support in the netstream drivers
 was
 implemented in 5.5.1, the first v5 version shipped in Debian was 5.7.1-1

That would make sense, sid skipped straight from 4.6.x to 5.7.x, afaict.

OK, machine just finished rebooting - looks like that fixed it. Thanks!

 works correctly.

Tested, works great, thanks!!

Bug#606175: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives: nvidia alternatives links keep breaking

2010-12-06 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
Version: 195.36.31-6
Severity: important

Everytime 'apt-get upgrade' gets run most of my X programs stop being able to
launch becaue they can't find symbols in libGL. It turns out this is because
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 is a link to libGL.so.1.0.5336 instead of
/etc/alternatives/libGL.so.1.

I can fix it by running 'update-alternatives --config libGL.so.1' which detects
the error:

# update-alternatives --config libGL.so.1
There are 2 choices for the alternative libGL.so.1 (providing
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1).

  SelectionPath   Priority   Status

  1/usr/lib/nvidia/diversions/libGL.so.1   5 manual mode
  2/usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1  42manual mode

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1 because link group libGL.so.1 is broken.

This is how the links look before running update-alternatives (ls -il):

1818853 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Dec  5 10:18 /etc/alternatives/libGL.so.1 -

  84653 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 97 Nov 18 06:49
/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/libGL.so.1

And this is afterward:

1821160 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Dec  6 09:14 /etc/alternatives/libGL.so.1 -
/usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1
 541039 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 Dec  6 09:14 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -
/etc/alternatives/libGL.so.1

/usr/lib/nvidia/diversions/libGL.so.1 - libGL.so.1.2
1263233 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Nov 18 06:42 /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1 -
libGL.so.195.36.31
  84653 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 97 Nov 18 06:49
/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/libGL.so.1

Everytime 'apt-get upgrade' runs (I run it from cron on my desktop at night, so
every morning it's broken) the link reverts and random X packages won't work.

The problem may not be directly with libgl1-nvidia-alternatives but I'm not
sure where else to look.

 The problem is caused by that file existing at all, and the reason why
 this changes after every apt-get upgrade is because ldconfig runs after
 shared library changes. ldconfig is replacing that symlink because it
 sees a shared library with the right SONAME in the same directory.

Oh, *that*s what's doing it. Makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

 Just deleting /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.0.5336 will solve this problem. Based
 on the file name, this is probably a file left over from a long-ago manual
 installation of the NVIDIA drivers using the upstream installer.

I removed it and re-ran ldconfig and all is working well.

Thanks for the quick and detailed response!

 However, the nvidia folks claim that they will actually fix this in the
 next version:

 This next version should have been released a few years ago.

 Is the issue still present in recent NVIDIA drivers (195.36.24-1 entered
 testing today)?

Yeah, this can be closed.

Bug#425790: Further Problems

2010-06-06 Thread Phil Dibowitz
I still have this problem...

but my /etc/icedove/prefs/icedove.js already had:

  pref(network.protocol-handler.app.http, x-www-browser);
  pref(network.protocol-handler.app.https, x-www-browser);

But based on this bug I added these two lines to
/etc/icedove/prefs/http-browser.js

And it still does not work. I've looked in the config editor, and these two
*are* set, and x-www-browser is pointed to iceweasel in 'alternatives' - and
I can launch 'xxx-www-browser' from the shell with the expected results.

I'm running unstable, without gnome:

r...@rider:~# dpkg -l | egrep 'icedove|iceweasel'
ii  icedove  3.0.4-3
  mail/news client with RSS and integrated spa
ii  iceweasel3.5.9-3

My window manager is fluxbox.

 0.6b1 is the correct version for the google calendar provider. I still
 don't understand why this gets diabled since it doesn't do so here.

It says its disabled because, Requires additional items... is there
somehow to figure out what it thinks it requires? Is there some additional
package it depends on but that isn't in the package metadata?

I tried the latest upstream, it's also affected, as Aioanei pointed out.

BTW, I have a huge lists of sites that use flash for their navigation menus

This is definitely a 'grave' bug - the entire package is unusable. Though
it's also a upstream bug.

I tried to file an upstream bug but got a portal undergoing system updates

2009-10-09 Thread Phil Dibowitz
I noticed that this bug get set down to 'normal', but I believe the
definition of 'grave' includes makes package completely unusable, which I
believe this does. I can't actually 90% of flash movies, which is the
purpose of the package.

Bug#549576: flashplugin-nonfree: buttons/links in flash don't work

2009-10-04 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

About a week ago, links and buttons in flash stopped working. For example, on
an embedded youtube video play and pause don't work when I click them. On
e-cards the click here to play link shows me clicking on it (it changes
color), but doesn't actually do anything.

I've tried all of the following:
  * rm -rf ~/.macromedia
  * sudo apt-get --purge remove flashplugin-nonfree  sudo apt-get install
flashplugin-nonfree
  * New Firefox profile
  * Tried in chrome

but none of these work.

Bug#532094: More Info

2009-08-30 Thread Phil Dibowitz
So I noticed that this only happens when the window is in on all workspace
mode.

I have JPilot set to open reminder windows sticky. If I unstick them
before closing them it doesn't seem to crash fluxbox (I only have a small
sample size of 2 for this).

I've tried opening other windows and putting them in sticky mode and closing
them, but fluxbox doesn't crash - it seems to be only jpilot reminder
windows and only when they're on all workspaces.

Ever since an apt-get upgrade from about 2 weeks ago, I've been unable

I enabled foomatic debug logging to /tmp/foomatic-rip.log and it's

I've been debugging this for a while, tried purging and re-installing
the cups and foomatic packages, but to no avail.

Bug#455626: Been fixed in CVS since 2007-12-11

2008-03-06 Thread Phil Dibowitz
There was an upstream bug made about this last year and it was fixed:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=467897aid=1849126group_id=52748

This was fixed in CVS along with a few other bugs. Since it's for a snapshot
of gcc I didn't roll a new release, but it's there if Brian would like to
pull CVS to roll a new debian package. Otherwise, I'll release a new version
soon.

 I can no longer launch any wine windows on any of my unstable machines.
 I've tried completely removing ~/.wine and running winecfg and it fails.
 I get:

 Wine 0.9.39 (and maybe 0.9.47) changed some relevant stuff. Is this
 still a problem?

 (glxinfo and glxgears work, right?)

This turned out to specifically be a problem with nvidia+xinerama+wine. It
was recently fixed, yes.

Bug#457150: Downgrading Xorg to testing fixes this

2007-12-20 Thread Phil Dibowitz
I downgraded xorg to testing to see if that would be a work around, and it
did. I downgraded all of the following packages:

I did, basically:

for i in `dpkg -l | egrep 'xserver|xorg' | awk '{print $2}'`; do echo
$i/testing; done  /tmp/tout  apt-get install `cat /tmp/tout`

Which removes nvidia-glx. I then grabbed the latest one and force-installed it:

dpkg --force-all -i nvidia...

Which is REALLY ugly, but it claims dependence on the newer xorg, and I
didn't feel like rebuilding with newer dependencies just for a test.

This works, I'm back on dual-display with Nvidia.

So it's something in the newer xorg and nvidia.

Package: nvidia-kernel-source

I restarted X today (many apt-get upgrade's later), and found that X
segfaults, and then crashes. Xorg.0.log doesn't show any errors except
for the backtrace at the end:

I've posted an strace of the server here:

I noticed that reportbug isn't including my version of xorg, so:

I can reproduce the problem with xinit, startx, or launching xdm or

Bug#443870: xorg: Xorg segfaults on startup

2007-09-24 Thread Phil Dibowitz
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.3+2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After the recent Xorg and Nvidia upgrade, I can no longer run my
Xinerama setup without causing Xorg to segfault, and the following
backtrace:

  Backtrace:
  0: /usr/bin/X11/X(xf86SigHandler+0x7e) [0x80c632e]
  1: [0xe420]
  2: /usr/bin/X11/X(Xrealloc+0x32) [0x81b3be2]
  3: /usr/bin/X11/X [0x8102199]
  4: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so [0xb703eac9]

  Fatal server error:
  Caught signal 11.  Server aborting

It may be that this bug belongs in nvidia - it's probably some
combination between the new Xorg and the new nvidia.

I've included my xorg.conf below. This configuration has worked for me
for 2 years now, until this upgrade.

I have the latest (fixed) nvidia stuff:

  nvidia-glx 100.14.19-1
  nvidia-kernel-2.6.22-2-686 100.14.19-1+2.6.22-4

This setup has two monitorings a dual-headed Nvidia GeForce 6600 (using
the nvidia drivers), and a thurd monitoring on an older nvidia NV6
(using the 'nv' driver - nvidia no longer supports this), all Xinerama'd
up together.

Note that if I drop the 3rd monitor and just use the 6600 I still have
the same problem. I have to turn off Xinerama in order for it to work.

Bug#443870: xorg: Xorg segfaults on startup

 We'll keep #443274 to deal with Xserver-without-nvidia Xinerama problems.

Thanks Brice. Indeed it turns out people are having this problem even with
older Xorgs - it's a bug in the latest nvidia drivers.

Doing some research I found this:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=7858bb6d26391d3abf310c8788143778t=99016

which suggests that I can work around the problem by explicitly disabling
composite.

I'll try this when I get into the office tomorrow and report back if that works.
