Kai, Thanks so much for your work here, I've been panicking about my email. This script is a HUGE help. I noticed one thing though, in the linking, it doesn't really handle nested folders, so I get a ton of: ln: /var/spool/cyrus/mail/p/user/phil/lists/linuxdriver: hard link not allowed for directory And one small thing, it might be useful for others if the 'echo's before the first bash gave the command to run to feed the file to cyradm, so you don't have to go back to the script to find it. I've tried 5.14, 5.17, 5.18, 5.19, and 6.0.0. 6.0.0 will boot if I use 'recovery mode', and then I can exit from single-user mode, and it continues booting and the machine runs just fine. But if I do not select recovery, then the whole machine hard-freezes after: ``` ACPI VIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCIO.GPP8._DSM], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20220331/dswload2-326) ACPI ERror: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) ``` But 5.10 ALSO has this error, but continues on just fine. Anything after 5.10, once it hits that the whole machine freezes hard and I have to hit the physical power reset to reboot the system (alt+ctrl+del does not work). I've checked the grub entries and the kernel commandline options between kernels and they are identical. Bug#1006350: pidgin: crashes when typing past visible number of lines
Package: pidgin Version: 2.14.8-2 Severity: grave Tags: upstream Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, It seems 2.14.6 introduced a bug where Pidgin crashes when the user types somethign longer than the visible number of lines - not always, but often. This has been reported upstream here: https://issues.imfreedom.org/issue/PIDGIN-17568 However, due to the Debian perl 5.34 transition (https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2022/02/msg0.html), downgrading to the previous package - 2.14.1 - isn't particularly feasible. Upstream is in fact working on a fix it seems to be a weird race condition in creating scrollbars. In the meantime, rebuilding a version from < 2.14.6 would prevent this bug from hitting testing/stable users. -- System Information: Debian Release: bookworm/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-8-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU threads) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages pidgin depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 2.36.0-3 ii libc6 2.33-7 ii libcairo2 1.16.0-5 ii libdbus-1-3 1.12.20-4 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.6+dfsg-2 ii libglib2.0-02.70.4-1 ii libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-0 1.20.0-2 ii libgstreamer1.0-0 1.20.0-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.33-2 ii libgtkspell02.0.16-1.3 ii libice6 2:1.0.10-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.50.4+ds-1 ii libpurple0 2.14.8-2 ii libsm6 2:1.2.3-1 ii libx11-62:1.7.2-2+b1 ii libxss1 1:1.2.3-1 ii perl-base [perlapi-5.34.0] 5.34.0-3 ii pidgin-data 2.14.8-2 Versions of packages pidgin recommends: ii gstreamer1.0-alsa 1.20.0-2 ii gstreamer1.0-libav 1.20.0-1 ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-base 1.20.0-2 ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-good 1.20.0-2 ii gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio1.20.0-2 ii sensible-utils 0.0.17 Versions of packages pidgin suggests: ii libsqlite3-0 3.37.2-2 -- no debconf information

Package: fluxbox Version: 1.3.7-1~exp1 Severity: grave Tags: patch upstream Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, There is a bug in upstream fluxbox which has been patched which causes new 32-bit windows to appear without borders, and unable to be interacted with in anyway. Bug#983835: base-installer: hostname= is ignored if reverse-dns exists

Don't know how I missed that. However, that requires a per-host preseed, where as with kernel command line I can have the same preseed for all my hosts (or at least all hosts in a certain category) and simply just pass in a hostname in the tftpseed (which has to be host specific anyway and for me is already generated by my provisioning system). So perhaps it would be useful to have a like netcfg/hostname_priority flag where one can choose a priority order? -- Phil Dibowitz p...@ipom.com Open Source software and tech docsInsanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss
Bug#983835: base-installer: hostname= is ignored if reverse-dns exists
Package: base-installer Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, When doing a network-install of a system, if one passes `hostname=foo` on the kernel commandline, the installer will use that to set the hostname of the installed system... EXCEPT if there's reverse-DNS for the IP address that we happen to have gotten from DHCP, in which case that takes precedence. But it shouldn't, we very explicitly are requesting a hostname to set. This situation happens in environments with dynamic dns where a client may have released an IP, the DHCP gave it out to this new client, but there's still a DNS cache with the old mapping. The installer should prefer the explicit preference set by the adminsitrator over the implicit one. Or, at the very least provide a configuration option to enable such a behavior. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled
Bug#977398: base-installer: kernel selection cannot work with user-configured repos
Package: base-installer Severity: normal As it stands today, the installer will always fail to find kernels in private mirrors defined in a preseed. This is true, even if you add keys with `apt-setup/local0/key` and set `debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated` and `debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated_ssl`. The reason is an ordering issue. It took a while to dig through the code enough to put this altogether, but here's how it falls out. Inside of `pick_kernel`, we look at `$KERNEL_LIST` which is populated (in `kernel_update_list`), but calling: ``` chroot /target apt-cache search "^(kernel|$KERNEL_NAME)-image" ``` Unfortunately, apt inside of the target is not setup until _after_ `base-installer` in the `apt-setup` package. We _have_ setup apt in the installer (`configure_apt` and `apt_update` are before `pick_kernel`), so the _installation_ of any kernel _would_ work. Unfortuantely, we won't _find_ any of the relevant kernels because the `apt-cache` run inside of the target won't work as none of the keys have been dropped off and so `apt-cache` ignores any private mirrors that have been added. This is also seen in the logs, here's base-isntaller deciding on kernels: ``` Dec 12 09:50:26 base-installer: info: kernel linux-signed-generic usable on amd64 ``` And here's it grabbing keys from `apt-setup/local0/key`: ``` Dec 12 09:51:15 main-menu[1220]: (process:777): 2020-12-12 09:51:11 URL:http://INTERNAL_HOST/public.gpg [1204/1204] -> "/target/tmp/_fetch-url_key0.pub.2041" [1] ``` Note that it's a minute later (internal hostname masked). There is a work around. Since `post_install_hooks` is just before `pick_kernel`, I've added a `preseed/early_command` that generates a file in `/usr/lib/base-installer.d` which wget's the key into `/target/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d`. Of course this will be done by `apt-setup` just a moment later. This doesn't seem like a trivial bug to fix. I can see two possible fixes: 1. Install apt-cache into the installer 2. Move kernel installation to a separate package that happens after `apt-setup`. There are possibly other options that those more familiar with the codebase can see. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.9.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled

Bug#929418: screen: /run/screen isn't created
Some more data: Tried several reboots, it's very reproducible. I tried adding the '-' and also tried moving the file to /usr/lib, either way nothing works. I tried running `systemd-tmpfiles --create --remove --boot --exclude-prefix=/dev`, but it doesn't create /run/screen at all. No matter how I ran it, I could not get it to create that directory. Seuss signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I don't see a single entry in the man page that leaves off the 'age' column. I wonder if newer systemd is ignoring this entry because of that. From the man page, they have a screen example: Example 1. Create directories with specific mode and ownership screen(1), needs two directories created at boot with specific modes and ownership: # /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/screen.conf d /run/screens 1777 root screen 10d d /run/uscreens 0755 root screen 10d12h I wouldn't have an age on them that seems scary, but you could have a '-' to imply no age, changing your config file to: d /run/screen 1777 root utmp - I see other Debian packages leaving it off (like sudo), but all the internal systemd ones don't like /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/systemd.conf has: d /run/user 0755 root root - Relatedly, since your config file comes in your package, it should *probably* be in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/ not /etc/tmpfiles.d. :) -- Phil Dibowitz p...@ipom.com Open Source software and tech docsInsanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

On 5/23/19 12:13 PM, Axel Beckert wrote: > * you were able to login and start screen quicker than > systemd-tmpfiles was able to create that directory, I doubt this. Cause I logged in, my windows started up, I started firefox, pidgin, and thunderbird. Saw an email that required me to open my password manager, which is usually in screen. Typed "screen -dr", realized I didn't have a screen session running anymore, ran "screen" then noticed the error wasn't that there wasn't something to attach to, but instead that /run/screen didn't exist. Then I checked to make sure it really didn't exist. Tried 'screen' again, then made the directory, then tried 'screen' again, then it asked for it to be 777, I chmod'd it, and then ran 'screen' again. I don't have the fastest machine in the world, but it's a quad-core Core i5, I'm pretty sure the startup stuff was done by this point. BUT this reminds me of an issue I had at work where `systemd-tmpfiles-setup` wasn't running at boot because of a bad dependency loop where systemd had trimmed a branch of the tree to resolve the problem... however, that doesn't seem to be the case here, `systemd-tmpfiles-setup` ran successfully according to systemctl. > * Is this issue reproducible, i.e. does it happen after every reboot? > (I hope so in some way as that would make debugging easier in some > way. :-) When I have a moment, I'll try to reboot a few times and let you know. > * Could you create a cron job or systemd timer thingy or so, which > regularily and rather often (once a minute would be what I'd do with > a cron job) checks if /run/screen exists, e.g. by creating a cron > job like this: > > * * * * * (date; ls -ldU /run/screen/ /run/ ) >> > /tmp/run-screen-existence.log > > (Entry for a user's crontab, a file under /etc/cron.d/ would need > additionally a user field between the asterisks and the command.) Bug#617996: rsyslog: remote syslog messages not logged
Package: rsyslog Version: 5.7.8-1 Severity: important Ever since the 5.7 upgrade which I installed on 2/20, my rsyslog hasn't been logging messages from remote sources. This started on the 5.7.4-1 package and has continued with 5.7.4-2, 5.7.5-1, 5.7.6-1, and 5.7.8-1. It's possible that something around UDP listening changed from the old 4.6 version to 5.7, but I couldn't find anything relevant in the documentation. I have enabled UDP: $ModLoad imudp $UDPServerRun 514 and TCP: $ModLoad imtcp $InputTCPServerRun 514 and for the purposes of testing, I made a line to send all logging to a test file: *.* /var/log/firehouse and then set another machine (running standard syslog) to transfer all logs to the rsyslog server: *.* @alt and ran logger on this other machine. No logs made it to the rsyslog server. The machine runs sid and does an 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade' every night. The last version that worked from the dpkg logs was 4.6.4-2. According to the upstream changelog, epoll support in the netstream drivers was implemented in 5.5.1, the first v5 version shipped in Debian was 5.7.1-1 That would make sense, sid skipped straight from 4.6.x to 5.7.x, afaict. Package: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives Version: 195.36.31-6 Severity: important Everytime 'apt-get upgrade' gets run most of my X programs stop being able to launch becaue they can't find symbols in libGL. The problem is caused by that file existing at all, and the reason why this changes after every apt-get upgrade is because ldconfig runs after shared library changes. ldconfig is replacing that symlink because it sees a shared library with the right SONAME in the same directory. Oh, *that*s what's doing it. Makes sense, thanks for the explanation. Just deleting /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.0.5336 will solve this problem. Based on the file name, this is probably a file left over from a long-ago manual installation of the NVIDIA drivers using the upstream installer. Bug#549576: More...
I tried the latest upstream, it's also affected, as Aioanei pointed out. BTW, I have a huge lists of sites that use flash for their navigation menus (sad as that is), which are all completely unusable. This is definitely a 'grave' bug - the entire package is unusable. Though it's also a upstream bug. I tried to file an upstream bug but got a portal undergoing system updates message. -- Phil Dibowitz p...@ipom.com Open Source software and tech docsInsanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#549576: flashplugin-nonfree: buttons/links in flash don't work
I noticed that this bug get set down to 'normal', but I believe the definition of 'grave' includes makes package completely unusable, which I believe this does. Bug#549576: flashplugin-nonfree: buttons/links in flash don't work
Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 1:2.8 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable About a week ago, links and buttons in flash stopped working. For example, on an embedded youtube video play and pause don't work when I click them. On e-cards the click here to play link shows me clicking on it (it changes color), but doesn't actually do anything. I've tried all of the following: * rm -rf ~/.macromedia * sudo apt-get --purge remove flashplugin-nonfree sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree * New Firefox profile * Tried in chrome but none of these work. -- Package-specific info: Debian version: squeeze/sid Architecture: i386 Package version: 1:2.8 Adobe Flash Player version: LNX 10,0,32,18 MD5 checksums: 6306980e40a3266b4b6c173bfcfdc946 /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz 3433f503261d4c7f622be4d74ab10c9a /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so Alternatives: flash-mozilla.so - auto mode link currently points to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so - priority 50 Current `best' version is /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34 2009-10-04 15:23 /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so - /etc/alternatives/flash-mozilla.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so: symbolic link to `/etc/alternatives/flash-mozilla.so' Libraries used by libflashplayer.so: linux-gate.so.1 = (0xb7ee6000) libstdc++.so.6 = /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb732f000) libpthread.so.0 = /lib/i686/cmov/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7316000) libX11.so.6 = /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb71f9000) libXext.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXext.so.6 (0xb71eb000) libXt.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXt.so.6 (0xb7199000) libfreetype.so.6 = /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 (0xb7122000) libfontconfig.so.1 = /usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1 (0xb70f7000) libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 (0xb6d34000) libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 (0xb6c9e000) libatk-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libatk-1.0.so.0 (0xb6c83000) libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 (0xb6c6a000) libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 (0xb6c5f000) libpango-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so.0 (0xb6c1c000) libcairo.so.2 = /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2 (0xb6ba4000) libgobject-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0 (0xb6b67000) libgmodule-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so.0 (0xb6b63000) libdl.so.2 = /lib/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0xb6b5f000) libglib-2.0.so.0 = /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 (0xb6aa8000) libnss3.so = /usr/lib/libnss3.so (0xb69d5000) libsmime3.so = /usr/lib/libsmime3.so (0xb69b6000) libssl3.so = /usr/lib/libssl3.so (0xb698f000) libplds4.so = /usr/lib/libplds4.so (0xb698c000) libplc4.so = /usr/lib/libplc4.so (0xb6988000) libnspr4.so = /usr/lib/libnspr4.so (0xb6954000) libm.so.6 = /lib/i686/cmov/libm.so.6 (0xb692e000) libgcc_s.so.1 = /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb692) libc.so.6 = /lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb67c1000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7ee7000) libxcb.so.1 = /usr/lib/libxcb.so.1 (0xb67a8000) libXau.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0xb67a5000) libSM.so.6 = /usr/lib/libSM.so.6 (0xb679d000) libICE.so.6 = /usr/lib/libICE.so.6 (0xb6784000) libz.so.1 = /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0xb676f000) libexpat.so.1 = /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 (0xb6749000) libXcomposite.so.1 = /usr/lib/libXcomposite.so.1 (0xb6746000) libXdamage.so.1 = /usr/lib/libXdamage.so.1 (0xb6743000) libXfixes.so.3 = /usr/lib/libXfixes.so.3 (0xb673d000) libgio-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0 (0xb66a8000) libpangoft2-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0 (0xb668) libXrender.so.1 = /usr/lib/libXrender.so.1 (0xb6677000) libXinerama.so.1 = /usr/lib/libXinerama.so.1 (0xb6674000) libXi.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXi.so.6 (0xb666a000) libXrandr.so.2 = /usr/lib/libXrandr.so.2 (0xb6663000) libXcursor.so.1 = /usr/lib/libXcursor.so.1 (0xb665a000) libpixman-1.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 (0xb65fc000) libdirectfb-1.2.so.0 = /usr/lib/libdirectfb-1.2.so.0 (0xb6587000) libfusion-1.2.so.0 = /usr/lib/libfusion-1.2.so.0 (0xb657d000) libdirect-1.2.so.0 = /usr/lib/libdirect-1.2.so.0 (0xb6569000) libpng12.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 (0xb6545000) libxcb-render-util.so.0 = /usr/lib/libxcb-render-util.so.0 (0xb6541000) libxcb-render.so.0 = /usr/lib/libxcb-render.so.0 (0xb653a000) libpcre.so.3 = /usr/lib/libpcre.so.3 (0xb6508000) libnssutil3.so.1d = /usr/lib/libnssutil3.so.1d (0xb64f4000) libXdmcp.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0xb64ef000) libuuid.so.1 = /lib/libuuid.so.1 (0xb64eb000)

So I noticed that this only happens when the window is in on all workspace mode. I have JPilot set to open reminder windows sticky. If I unstick them before closing them it doesn't seem to crash fluxbox (I only have a small sample size of 2 for this). I've tried opening other windows and putting them in sticky mode and closing them, but fluxbox doesn't crash - it seems to be only jpilot reminder windows and only when they're on all workspaces. -- Phil Dibowitz p...@ipom.com Open Source software and tech docsInsanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ Never write it in C if you can do it in 'awk'; Never do it in 'awk' if 'sed' can handle it; Never use 'sed' when 'tr' can do the job; Never invoke 'tr' when 'cat' is sufficient; Avoid using 'cat' whenever possible -- Taylor's Laws of Programming signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#455626: Been fixed in CVS since 2007-12-11
There was an upstream bug made about this last year and it was fixed: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=467897aid=1849126group_id=52748 This was fixed in CVS along with a few other bugs. Since it's for a snapshot of gcc I didn't roll a new release, but it's there if Brian would like to pull CVS to roll a new debian package. Otherwise, I'll release a new version soon. -- Phil Dibowitz [EMAIL PROTECTED] Open Source software and tech docsInsanity Palace of Metallica http://www.phildev.net/ http://www.ipom.com/ Never write it in C if you can do it in 'awk'; Never do it in 'awk' if 'sed' can handle it; Never use 'sed' when 'tr' can do the job; Never invoke 'tr' when 'cat' is sufficient; Avoid using 'cat' whenever possible -- Taylor's Laws of Programming signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#457150: Downgrading Xorg to testing fixes this
I downgraded xorg to testing to see if that would be a work around, and it did. I downgraded all of the following packages: I did, basically: for i in `dpkg -l | egrep 'xserver|xorg' | awk '{print $2}'`; do echo $i/testing; done /tmp/tout apt-get install `cat /tmp/tout` Which removes nvidia-glx. I then grabbed the latest one and force-installed it: dpkg --force-all -i nvidia... Which is REALLY ugly, but it claims dependence on the newer xorg, and I didn't feel like rebuilding with newer dependencies just for a test. This works, I'm back on dual-display with Nvidia. So it's something in the newer xorg and nvidia.

Package: xorg Version: 1:7.3+2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After the recent Xorg and Nvidia upgrade, I can no longer run my Xinerama setup without causing Xorg to segfault, and the following backtrace: Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/X11/X(xf86SigHandler+0x7e) [0x80c632e] 1: [0xe420] 2: /usr/bin/X11/X(Xrealloc+0x32) [0x81b3be2] 3: /usr/bin/X11/X [0x8102199] 4: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so [0xb703eac9] Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting It may be that this bug belongs in nvidia - it's probably some combination between the new Xorg and the new nvidia. I've included my xorg.conf below. This configuration has worked for me for 2 years now, until this upgrade. I have the latest (fixed) nvidia stuff: nvidia-glx 100.14.19-1 nvidia-kernel-2.6.22-2-686 100.14.19-1+2.6.22-4 This setup has two monitorings a dual-headed Nvidia GeForce 6600 (using the nvidia drivers), and a thurd monitoring on an older nvidia NV6 (using the 'nv' driver - nvidia no longer supports this), all Xinerama'd up together. Note that if I drop the 3rd monitor and just use the 6600 I still have the same problem. Bug#443870: xorg: Xorg segfaults on startup
Brice Goglin wrote: There are some known bugs about Xinerama in Xserver 1.4, especially #443274. But the backtrace above is completely different, and it seems totally nvidia specific. So I am reassigning this bug to nvidia-glx. We'll keep #443274 to deal with Xserver-without-nvidia Xinerama problems. Thanks Brice. Indeed it turns out people are having this problem even with older Xorgs - it's a bug in the latest nvidia drivers. Doing some research I found this: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=7858bb6d26391d3abf310c8788143778t=99016 which suggests that I can work around the problem by explicitly disabling composite.
