Bug#1012286: RFS: zig/0.9.1-1 [ITP] -- Programming language

2024-06-11 Thread Phil Wyett
Hi Submitter and all,

It has been almost a year since the last activity on this Request For
Sponsorship (RFS). Is there still interest in the packaging of zig by the
submitter or others, or can this RFS be closed and the Intent To Package (ITP)
be returned (retitled) to Request For Package (RFP) status?

Regards

Phil

Bug#1068724: RFS: gensync/2.0.5-1 [ITP] -- a library for efficient synchronization of data over a network.

2024-06-11 Thread Phil Wyett
Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Debian.

Before I commit further time to this Request For Sponsorship (RFS) submission.
Could you elaborate on where version 2.0.5 comes from?

The linked git repository[1] 'README.md' states version '2.0.4'.

If you do some digging into the git repository tags[2], the latest version is
'1.0.4'.

If you look into the branch 'colosseum', which looks like it has the/a codebase
in it, there is no version in 'README.md' or elsewhere.

Bug#1073034: Some hyperlinks are including trailing comma and result in 404 if followed.

2024-06-11 Thread Phil Wyett
Package: lintian
Version: 2.117.0
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

N:
N: The listed file or maintainer script appears to reference the build path
N: used to build the package as specified in the Build-Path field of the
N: .buildinfo file.
N:
N: This is likely to cause the package to be unreproducible, but it may also
N: indicate that the package will not work correctly outside of the
N: maintainer's own system.
N:
N: Please note that this tag will not appear unless the .buildinfo file
N: contains a Build-Path field. That field is optional. You may have to set
N: DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=buildinfo=+path or use
N: --buildinfo-option=--always-include-path with dpkg-buildpackage when
N: building.
N:
N: Please refer to https://reproducible-builds.org/,
N: https://wiki.debian.org/ReproducibleBuilds/BuildinfoFiles, and the
N: dpkg-genbuildinfo(1) manual page for details.
N:
N: Visibility: info
N: Show-Always: no
N: Check: files/contents

Issue:

In 'tilix', links here are including the trailing ',' and result
in 404 if you right click on one of the links and then click on 'Open Link'.

2024-06-11 Thread Phil Wyett
Hi,

Thank you for giving your time and updating this package for Debian.

A quick review of the package indicates the below that may require work.

* Spelling error at line 802 of file:

  'src/core/codestream/ojph_codestream_local.cpp'.

'indivdual' should be 'individual'. Can be simply patched locally and
  reported upstream if necessary.

* .devcontainer/devcontainer.json is 'MIT' license not 'BSD-2'.

* In 'debian/copyright'. License is 'BSD-2-clause' not 'BSD-2'.

Bug#1042777: RFS: vimb/3.7.0-1 [ITP] -- Light-weight webkit-based browser with vim keyboard bindings

2024-06-09 Thread Phil Wyett
Hi,

Many thanks for taking the time to package this application for Debian.

In the changelog for 3.6.0 the package moved from libsoup 2 to 3. The 'Build-
Depends' in 'debian/control' can be changed from 'libsoup2.4-dev' to 'libsoup-
3.0-dev'.

Other testing looks good, but further testing will be done after your next
upload.

Regards

Phil

Bug#1072497: VCS fields in 'd/control' do not point to upstream on GNOME gitlab

2024-06-02 Thread Phil Wyett
Package: simple-scan
Found: 3.38.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

VCS fields do not point to upstream.

In 'd/control' we have:

Vcs-Git: git://git.jff.email/simple-scan.git
Vcs-Browser: https://git.jff.email/cgit/simple-scan.git

When really should be:

Vcs-Git: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/simple-scan.git
Vcs-Browser: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/simple-scan/

'd/upstream/metadata' points to the correct upstream.

Could we change 'd/control' to match upstream and offer less confusion?

Regards

Phil

Hi,

Thank you for contributing to Debian.

This is a new package to Debian. Whatever version you upload to mentors as the
latest, it
should be the only entry in the 'debian/changelog' with the initial release
info and
closing the ITP bug. Once in Debian you will then add new 'debian/changelog'
entries per
upload/release etc.

Severity: normal
Tags: bullseye
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

X-Debbugs-Cc: comp...@packages.debian.org
Control: affects -1 + src:compton

[ Reason ]
* Remove 'Recommends' for 'picom' which is a fork of compton, thus another X11
compositor.
We should not be installing two packages of this type when only one asked for
by the user.

* Also changed maintainer to me as I am this for the package and any queries
should be
aimed at myself and n0t the QA group.

[ Impact ]
The user will get two X11 compositors plus dependencies when they only wished
for compton
alone. We should never install not asked for packages on a users system.

[ Tests ]
The fix has been extensively tested by me.

I have done build, install and upgrade tests with no negative results.

[ Risks ]
None.

[ Checklist ]
[X] *all* changes are documented in the d/changelog
[X] I reviewed all changes and I approve them
[X] attach debdiff against the package in (old)stable

[ Other info ]
Unsure of validity to be a 'oldstable-pu', but will submit as I believe
something that
affects the user in this way is of importance.

Bug#1061607: bookworm-pu: package compton/compton_1-1+deb12u1

2024-01-27 Thread Phil Wyett
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: bookworm
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

[X] the issue is verified as fixed in unstable

[ Other info ]
Unsure of validity to be a 'stable-pu', but will submit as I believe something
that
affects the user in this way is of importance.

Regards

Phil

Bug#1061509: RFS: compton/1-3 [ITA] -- compositor for X11, based on xcompmgr

2024-01-25 Thread Phil Wyett
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "compton":

 * Package name : compton
   Version : 1-3
Upstream contact : [fill in name and email of upstream]
 * URL  : https://github.com/chjj/compton
 * License  : Expat
 * Vcs  : https://salsa.debian.org/debian/compton
   Section : x11

The source builds the following binary packages:

compton - compositor for X11, based on xcompmgr

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/compton/

Alternatively, you can download the package with 'dget' using this command:

  dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/compton/compton_1-3.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

 compton (1-3) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New maintainer. (Closes: #960779)
   * Neither recommend or suggest picom. It is a fork of compton,
 so a separate product.
   * 'd/control': Move from transtional package libgl1-mesa-dev to libgl-dev.
   * 'd/control': Update 'Standards-Version' to 4.6.2, no changes required.
   * 'd/control': Remove ' Section: oldlibs'.
   * 'd/control': Remove message that compton is deprecated and to be removed
and use the picom package instead.
 - Picom is a fork of compton, so different. Allow the user to decide which
   better suits their needs.
   * Removed 'd/watch' for now. Upstream compton redirects to picom.
   * Removed 'd/NEWS'. compton is still useful. Decision on removal can be
taken at a later date, when it is no longer useful.

Hi Tomas,

Yes, I am aware of picom because it is wrongly a 'Recommends' (installed when
you install
compton) for compton.[1]

As you have experienced, it is flaky and has some weird bugs that I myself
started to list
and then gave up. The final straw was when it came to picom on a basic
configuration
triggered higher CPU usage and my fan to turn on and never turn off every time
I started
vscode. Closing vscode left the fan running, but I was not interested in
debugging it.

In my experience also, compton 1 is an easier and more stable package in Debian
than
picom. For this reason I have decided to adopt it as it replaces the also flaky
in-built
compositor of xfce for me.

The package will have the deprecation/removal warning in 'd/control' removed;
and addition
to 'oldlibs' removed. Other updates will take place to the packaging to bring
it up to
today's Debian. This package has value and will be maintained by myself
accordingly.

If you have any bugs with Debian's compton. Please file bugs against the
package and I
will look at them.

[1] The 'Recommends' will be removed. These are separate X11 compositors.

Phil

Hi,

Sorry nobody has got back in touch since this bug was reported.

Because of this bugs age, no supported versions are still within Debian, so we

If you experience this, similar or other bug, please file a new bug against the
affected package and
I hope it will be looked at in a more timely manner.

Hi,

Sorry for the lack of response to your bug report.

Looking at the report, it is against a version of xfce4-panel that is older
than the package in any
currently supported version of Debian. Due to this, your report report will be
closed as 'wontfix'.
If you experience this, similar or other bug, please do not hesitate to report

required for many in a default install and users requiring it can always

[ Reason ]
This will address the no-DSA CVE-2023-48795. The vulnerability has been
fixed in sid and trixie.

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2023-48795

[ Impact ]
The impact of putty itself and by proxy also for the SFTP support in filezilla
is
fortunately very limited : At most an attacker could use abuse terrapin to force
the use of SHA1 as negotiated during the server-sig-algs exchange:
https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/wishlist/vuln-terrapin.html

[ Tests ]
The fix has been extensively tested by upstream.

I have built affected filezilla versions with and without patching and
performed a variety of
connection, transfer and general use tests to be sure this update will work as
users expect.

[ Risks ]
The updating of the embedded putty within filezilla from upstream commits was
very straightforward
and is minimal risk.

Hi Fab and Apostolos,

Sorry for the late reply, not usual, but that time of year and many things to
do; and seasons
greetings to you both, your families and those close to you.

Thank you both for the work you have and are doing for these packages.

It would be appreciated if you would add admin permissions for me (kathenas) on
the repos concerned.
I will want to move them, hopefully under 'debian' at some point in the near
future.

Apostolos, I am happy to mentor you where I can if you wish to purse further
contribution to the
Debian project. I am nearly always at the end of my email, so do not hesitate
to contact me. In the
future you may wish to become the primary maintainer for these packages and I
would be very happy to
help you reach that goal.

It is nice to hear a positive relationship with upstream is the situation past
and present. Life is
always easier for both sides if this is the case.

Regards

Phil

Morning Tobias,

Thanks for granting me write access to the nanomsg git. In error I saw this
email and assumed I had
upload also, so I daftly removed the package from mentors. It all works out for
the best, I will
change it to target the experimental pocket as you point out is correct for
such transitions and do
another RFS.

I recently adopted 'bglibs' and have have upload now, but no git maintainer
access. If you happen to
have a free minute, could you add this for me?

Thanks for again assisting in my Debian learning and do appreciate it.

Regards

Phil

Hi,

I am interested in 'librepfunc' and would like to adopt it.

I am the Debian Maintainer (DM) of rednotebook, filezilla and libfilezilla, so
maintaining similar
package types is familiar to me. I am also currently in progress of adopting
'bglibs' and 'nanomsg'.

Plans:

Initially I will bring the package up to date and inline with Debians current

all other packages

Bug#871443: ITA: nanomsg -- nanomsg socket library that provides several common communication patterns

retitle 871443 ITA: nanomsg -- nanomsg socket library that provides several

patterns
owner 871443 !
thanks

Hi,

I am interested in 'nanomsg' and would like to adopt it and remove a small part
of the QA Teams
workload from them.

I am the Debian Maintainer (DM) of rednotebook, filezilla and libfilezilla, so
maintaining similar
package types is familiar to me. I am also currently in progress of adopting
'bglibs'.

Plans:

Initially I will bring the package up to date and inline with Debians current
practices and
standards. After, I will offer the package long term maintenance as I do with
all other packages
under my wing.

Regards

Phil

workload from them.

I am the Debian Maintainer (DM) of rednotebook, filezilla and libfilezilla, so
maintaining similar

Two of the most recent uploaders/sponsors of this package Bastian Germann and
Gianfranco Costamagna
I hope would support my adoption of this package.

Plans:

Initially I will bring the package up to date and inline with Debians current
