Bug#1034195: filezilla: Workaround package build for i386 included experimental - 3.63.2.1-4

2023-04-14 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi Gert,

I have used d/rules to work around the issue by adding the C(XX)FLAGS -msse4.1
conditionally for
the i386 build.

I will look at how this can be made available for Bookworm, but we are in
release freeze, so may
take time.

Hi Gert,

Sorry, when I mean upstream I do mean filezilla and communications with the
project indicates no
real interest in the 32-bit x86 build these days with the fact that 64-bit x86
has now been out for
a couple of decades.

I did allocate this bug to gcc under Debian and they threw it back as a
filezilla bug.

I will give some time to this again in a few days (when I am free) and we can
see what we can do.

Hi,

If you wish to add this to the upstream bug report, I will look at testing it
on the i386 builders
if and when it makes it into a release.

Hi Gert,

As with many developers, the upstream filezilla has employed CPU features i.e.
sse2 that is not
enabled on the Debian i386 build servers. This is their right and meant
exclusion from i386 of
filezilla. I am sorry if this is an issue, but unavoidable and has been the
case for many packages
that are no longer available on i386.

libflezilla does not as yet employ CPU features that would cause exclusion from
i386 and being a
library, could be used by other applications. This is why I felt it best to
leave its i386 build
intact.

Hi,

As stated on the report prior to closing, see below.

Upstream requires SSE2, which is not provided in the Debian i386 builder(s).
Because of this
filezilla for i386 is no longer built for bookworm/sid as of version 3.62.2-1.

Apologies for it no longer being available on your architecture.

Hi,

All related issues were solved in version 1.4.28, so the 1.4.29 in unstable can
have builds re-
enabled for spice and www plugins.

However... Please be sensitive in fixes for backport builds as this package is
in bullseye
backports. 1.4.29 can be built with both 'libsoup2.4 and webkit2gtk 4.0' and
'libsoup3 and
webkit2gtk 4.1' with spice and www plugins enabled.

Hi,

I have updated the upload to mentors with the following changelog entry:

libfilezilla (0.41.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

   * New upstream version 0.41.0
   * Soname bump rename package to libfilezilla34
 - Only additions to API in this release
 - Only consumed by filezilla, so low risk soname bump

I hope this this will be enough to allow for sponsorship and a direct upload to
unstable.

Hi,

I thought any change to push soname bumps through experimental was still only a
discussion?

As you are aware, libfilezilla is only consumed by filezilla and any soname
bumps are not dangerous
to other libaries or applications. Could this change pass through directly to
unstable if I modify
the changelog to state this fact?

Bug#1027729: RM: filezilla [i386] -- Upstream requires sse2, please remove i386

2023-01-02 Thread Philip Wyett
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Upstream requires sse2 and i386 does not support it, so building these binaries
will no longer take
place on Debian.

Please remove the src:filezilla binaries from i386.

Regards

Phil

Below is from upstream developer.

Changes (by Tim Kosse):

 * status:  new => moreinfo

Comment:

The compiler does support SSE2 if you enable it, e.g. with the #pragma in
 the snippet.

Also, why does the same snippet of code work fine in older versions of
Debian with older versions of gcc?

This very much looks like either a wrong #ifdef in the GCC headers, or
enabling SSE2 via the #pragma (as opposed to -msse2) doesn't actually
enable the functionality that SSE2 brings.

 See https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/x86-Function-Attributes.html#index-
 target_0028_0022sse2_0022_0029-function-attribute_002c-x86 and
 https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Half-Precision.html

I also found an interesting comment about a deeper underlying issue here:

Hi Jeff,

I am aware that Debian provides filezilla and libfilezilla as I am the Debian
maintainer of both.

However, Ubuntu as a derivative consumes the packages from Debian and at that
point become its
primary custodian and should be dealing with any issues. While I would love to
take on-board and
help with all derivatives, I do not have the time.

Your attempts to build from upstream are between you and the upstream project.
I do not have the
time to help or generally get involved on a package version not distributed
with Debian.

The best course of action would be for you to run Debian 11 (stable) and then
you would be
supported by myself and others who are part of the Debian project.

Regards

Phil

Hi,

Saw your email and I had a look. glabels the GTK/GNOME version seems to stop at
3.4.1 and if you
now go to glabels.org it forwards to:

https://github.com/jimevins/glabels-qt

and as it suggests the 4.x development of this new major version is QT based
only.

The choice here is to find out if 3.x will be maintained and do we package as
'glabels-qt' as a
separate package entirely. Many questions to be answered.

Regards

Phil

Hi,

filezilla 3.9.0 has long since been unsupported. Do you see same issue with
current stable
(11/bullseye)? Being that this is a legacy bug. If no update in the coming
month, I will close the
bug.

Do you still see this issue on latest stable (bullseye)?

You are using one of more custom AppArmor profiles?

Hi,

After recently taking over as the maintainer of filezilla, I am now working
through historic bugs.

This issue was fixed via:

https://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/10099 some 7 years ago.

2021-12-26 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi,

Maintainer addition.

Affects version 3.52.2-3 in Debian 11 (stable).

No crash while transferring, but as noted doing the minimize and maximise a few
times leads to the
tray icon crashing and disappearing with filezilla still running in the
background.

Will do test on latest (3.57.0) filezilla once I have uploaded it to unstable.
If it still
persists, I will forward upstream.

I am happy to now be the maintainer and thank Adrien for his work

As Adrien asks about using VCS, yes as maintainer I will work out of VCS.
Indeed updates have not
been done and I will rectify over next week.

Hi all,

This actually entered my mind this week. I have been looking after the package
for so long, should
I be listed as the maintainer and thus be primary contact regarding filezilla
and libfilezilla.

I was going to email Adrian and ask him if he has any interest in the packages
any longer, but his
has done it for me.

Hi,

Easy way to suppress this warning for me is (mentioned above, but simplified
here).

Create file below.

  sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

Add the following in the file.

  options iwlwifi enable_ini=N

Save and close file, then reboot. The message should now be gone.

Hi Andrej,

This fix is now in unstable, but to make it into testing/bullseye it requires
an 'unblock' request
filing.

We are close to auto removal on June 1st, which I think we would all like to
avoid.

Hi,

Thank you for confirming my list subscription. Shame the old smartlist email
confirmation was/is
not working as expected.

There has been no traffic since April. I hope maybe Mike can kick off by
referencing his blog post
of today and start the ball rolling.

Phil

Hi,

I have tried twice over the last week to subscribe to this list. I get the
"Subscription request

expected. This leaves me not
knowing if the subscription has been processed at all.

Hi,

Attached is a (NMU) debdiff that fixes the issue. Cherry picked patch from
Fedora[1].

This RC bug can be handled however wished by the maintainer. Just one less to
fix. :-)

Hi,

Sorry, no bug associated here, was confused how to subject the mail. Guidance
for the future would
be appreciated.

I would like to do an NMU for CVE-2020-25708[1].

This seems to have been waiting a while and is fixed already in bullseye/sid
and stretch. Because
of this I feel it can just go into the next point release if approved.

This update has been done during and part of this weekends
bsp-2021-04-at-salzburg.

Note: I am not a DM or DD and this will require a sponsor to upload if approved.
