Bug#1060304: zenity: bring back preselection of nonexisting file names with --save

2024-01-08 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach
Package: zenity
Version: 4.0.1-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: rz49...@gmx.net

Dear Maintainer,

having used zenity sporadically (ie. in a self-written script wrapping
scanimage and PDF generation from the scans for archiving of documents), I
recently noticed that it is not possible anymore to preselect a not-yet-
existing filename using the options combination --file-selection --save
--filename=path/to/new-file (assuming the path/to directory exists) using
zenity from sid. The file name field stays empty.
I noticed this bevaviour in the past few days, so it had already been present
in version 4.0.0-1.

In the zenity version contained in bookworm (3.44.0), the suggested new file
name appears in the dialog as expected, so this might be a regression caused by
upstream changes.

Kind regards
Rainer

Hi Michael,

in my case, the problems seem to occur with virtio only, regardless of

I tried Bochs, QXL and VGA, and everything seemed OK using each one.

Bug#1059211: qemu-system-x86: QEMU/KVM guests: Window contents partially not updated

2023-12-21 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach
Package: qemu-system-x86
Version: 1:8.2.0+ds-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: rz49...@gmx.net

Dear Maintainer,

after the latest QEMU packages update, I noticed strange redraw issues in VM
guests’ X windows.

I use XFCE on Debian Bullseye or Sid in all my VM guests.
The lightdm logon pad partially does update the username when entering it.

In the XFCE terminal window, the lower part (between 3 and 4 lines) only
updates after several seconds. In Thunar, the upper part of the windows stays
frozen for some seconds, while the lower part is redrawn when scrolling.
Mousepad updates of parts of its window are also delayed. The same applies to
Firefox.

The top-right XFCE user menu does not seem to react to clicks, no menu is
shown.

Besides from these issues, everything seems to be working normally, no issues
when SSHing to the VM guest. X clients access through SSH also works fine.

Shutting down the VM guest, downgrading all QEMU packages on the host system to
the versions from testing and starting the guest again resolves the issues for
me.

Kind regards
Rainer

Bug#1031671: Re-updating gnome-shell packages solved the issue for me

2023-02-20 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach

The mutter packages had already been at version 43.3-3.

Upgrading all gnome-shell packages to 43.3-1 and rebooting seems to have
solved the issue, no more focus stealing occurs anymore.

So it seems to have been the upstream bug indeed, maybe resolved (in my
case) by upgrading gnome-shell _after_ having the fixed mutter version
installed.

Probably now-irrelevant additional information: the focus-stealing
applications were all installed from distribution packages; no
snap/flatpak/etc involved.

Thank you!

Bug#1031671: resolved for me by mutter packages upgrade as suggested

2023-02-20 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach

Upgrading all gnome-shell packages to 43.3-1 and rebooting seems to have
solved the issue, no more focus stealing occurs anymore.

As it seems, the mutter packages on my machine had been upgraded during
my after-login-upgrade routine, and I had not logged out and in again
yet. I guess that would have helped already.

Probably now-irrelevant additional information: the focus-stealing
applications were all installed from distribution packages; no
snap/flatpak/etc involved.

Bug#1031671: gnome-shell: Some applications always lose focus

2023-02-20 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 43.3-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: rz49...@gmx.net

Dear Maintainer,

after the upgrade to gnome-shell version 43.3-1 last week, most applications in
a session always lose focus while certain applications are running (on my
machine, these focus-stealing applications are chromium, firefox and
thunderbird), making it impossible to work in the other applications like
gnome-terminal, gnome-text-editor, virtual machine manager etc.
Focus cannot be re-gained by clicking inside the original application window,
it is lost immediately again.

After all of the "focus-stealing" applications have been closed, the other
applications are able to get focus again.

This behavior occurs since last friday (Feb. 17, 2023), I had not observed
anything like that before.

Thank you for your support!
Rainer

Bug#707094: [virtualbox-dkms] Fails to build the kernel module for kernel 3.8-1-686-pae

The (re-)build for the old 3.2.0-4-686-pae went well, but for the new

Bug#707094: [Pkg-virtualbox-devel] Bug#707094: [virtualbox-dkms] Fails to build the kernel module for kernel 3.8-1-686-pae

2013-05-07 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach

Dear Alexey,

Debian's VirtualBox only supports Debian kernel (3.2.x).

I am experiencing this bug in unstable with the newly-arrived 3.8 Debian
kernel (headers package:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/linux-headers-3.8-1-686-pae).

Kind regards
Rainer

Bug#686968: anarchism: pdf.html advertises non-free software

2012-09-07 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach
Package: anarchism
Version: 14.0-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear maintainer,

the HTML page pdf.html starts with the following two sentences:
To view and print out the file you will need to have Adobe Document Reader on
your computer. This is free software that now comes on many computers and with
many CD's.

Both contain major inaccurracies:
 1. Nowadays, there are various well working readers for PDF files
 2. The description of Adobe Reader as free software is at least irritating

A possible solution would be a reference to pdfreaders.org.

Can you please give upstream a hint, too?

Thank you in advance
Rainer

Bug#676351: [openjdk-7] java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Can't load standard profile: LINEAR_RGB.pf

2012-06-06 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach

Package: openjdk-7
Version: 7~u3-2.1.1~pre1-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Dear Maintainer,

currently, Fop does not work with openjdk-7. When I try to generate a
PDF file with fop (using some JPEG files inside), I get the following
error, but only if I have set openjdk-7 as default jdk:

[warning] /usr/bin/fop: Unable to locate servlet-api in /usr/share/java
Error while rendering page 1
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Can't load standard profile:
LINEAR_RGB.pf

Exception
org.apache.fop.apps.FOPException: Can't load standard profile: LINEAR_RGB.pf
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Can't load standard profile:
LINEAR_RGB.pf

When I switch back the default jdk to openjdk-6, I only get the warning
message (Unable to locate servlet-api ...), but no errors, and the PDF
file is created as intended.

The error seems to be related to the resolved bugs 639883 and 641530
(openjdk-6). I guess a patch equivalent to
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~openjdk/openjdk/openjdk6/view/head:/patches/icc_loading_with_symlink.diff
would solve the problem - maybe
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~simono/openjdk/openjdk7-fixes/view/head:/debian/patches/icc_loading_with_symlink.diff
would be a good starting point.

Thanks in advance and kind regards
Rainer Schwarzbach

Bug#576925: [linux-base] postinst fails on undefined subroutine

2010-04-09 Thread Rainer Schwarzbach

Hi,

which files did it want to update?

I can only guess that you are thinking of the slightly unclear package
upgrade situation.
The skipped lines ([...]) only contained the notification about
automatically installed packages (The following packages were
automatically installed and are no longer required).
The 3 not upgraded packages are python-twisted-conch (unfulfilled
depends), xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon (i do not
want to upgrade them before linux-image-2.6.32-4-686 is installed).
The 2 not fully installed packages are linux-base and
linux-image-2.6.32-4-686.

what is your debconf setup?
post /etc/fstab, grub.cfg, ..

The system is lilo-based (grub does not work here), and was also
affected by bug #574987.

But I think the problem here really is a bug in the postinst script of
linux-base:

 Setting up linux-base (2.6.32-11) ...

 /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-base.postinst line 547.

The subroutine _system is defined outside the package
DebianKernel::DiskID, but called from inside the package.

Anyway, here are my files:

Hi,

when I upgraded yesterday, python2.3-twisted and python2.3-twisted-bin were
upgraded to 2.0.1-2.
From then on, apt-proxy did not start anymore. There was no starting message,
and it did not write into its log.
At first, I tried to upgrade *twisted* to 2.0.1-3 from incoming, but that did
not
work out either.
Then I downgraded python2.3-twisted and python2.3-twisted-bin to 1.3.0-8, and
apt-proxy works again now.
