Bug#1038710: src:procmail: fails to migrate to testing for too long: unresolved RC bug

2023-10-22 Thread Santiago Vila

Hi.

In addition to your very appropriate ping in github in August, I've just
made another ping today, let's see what comes from all this.

(If nothing happens, I guess reuploading the old version as
3.24.really.3.23 or alike will be a real possibility).

Thanks.

Full ack, and thanks for doing that.

In either case, I've just (privately) forwarded this (by email) to the
author to see if
he can help to fix the regression, as the github issue I opened for that
is still unanswered.

That's a good outcome already from me filing this bug (pinging relevant
stakeholders to think about the problem). Thanks again.

I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if that

have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and trixie, so it doesn't affect
(old-)stable.

If you believe your package is unable to migrate to testing due to issues
beyond your control, don't hesitate to contact the Release Team.

Hello. The issue with procmail is that I packaged the long awaited 3.24 version
from the author, but it had a regression (Bug #1028356).

Because the release was close, I raised the bug to "serious" to prevent the
migration.

Downgrading the bug and letting the package migrate to testing would probably
fix
this bug you have just filed, but somehow I feel that the current version in
trixie
is still "better" than the version in sid, so I don't see how that would improve
anything from the point of view of the end user.

In either case, I've just (privately) forwarded this (by email) to the author
to see if
he can help to fix the regression, as the github issue I opened for that is
still unanswered.

Thanks.

Dear maintainer(s),

The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing
and unstable for more than 30 days as having a Release Critical bug in
testing [1]. Your package src:procmail has been trying to migrate for
165 days [2]. I know that's mostly because of the freeze, and thanks for
not having the RC bug slip into bookworm. But now after the release,
it's time to look at it again.

If a package is out of sync between unstable and testing for a longer
period, this usually means that bugs in the package in testing cannot be
fixed via unstable. Additionally, blocked packages can have impact on
other packages, which makes preparing for the release more difficult.
Finally, it often exposes issues with the package and/or
its (reverse-)dependencies. We expect maintainers to fix issues that
hamper the migration of their package in a timely manner.

procmail is a key package, so it will not be autoremoved. This bug is
merely to make the out-of-sync-ness visible.

I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if
that version or a later version migrates, this bug will no longer affect
testing. I have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and trixie, so
it doesn't affect (old-)stable.

If you believe your package is unable to migrate to testing due to
issues beyond your control, don't hesitate to contact the Release Team.
